I have been using Sony Vegas pro for over 10 years now and I have learned more from you in the last couple of months in just a few videos thanI have in that entire time! Thanks for this. My 2080ti is about to get some overtime work!
THANK YOU! This actually fixed my problem. I have 128GB of RAM, and a not-so-great video card, so pointing me to that Dynamic RAM Preview setting was just what I needed. In Vegas 19 it's not a field so I can't enter 0; it's a slider, and it was already down at about 6GB, so I turned it all the way up and turned OFF the GPU acceleration, and it's running SUPER smooth now.
thank you. after some update in vega 18, i suddenly had no AMD acceleration... this vid helped me fix that. vega18 i had to disable Enable Legacy AVC decoding... suddenly AMD H/W decoder option appeared.
For those who want to use a AMD RX 4xx 5xx for rendering. Just go to "preferences" > "deprecated features" and enable "allow legacy gpu rendering". Click "apply" > "OK", close and restart the software. It should fix your missing options for "encode mode: render using gpu if avaliable" at the video tab and "check GPU" at the system tab. See ya!
Nice video, just unfortunately didn't fix my issue as this video, just like most others unfortunately, take for granted that GPU acceleration in the dropdown menu is available, as VEGAS doesn't even recognize my GPU for some reason (a 3090 and Vegas Pro 17) - so no hardware acceleration here still, takes about 2-5 hours to render a 15 minute video in 4k, its driving me nuts. Video is still nice though and explains what you are doing just fine, not ranting about that at all :)
Found the issue by the way, it wasn't the card, the nvidia driver or anything. It was directx which was faulty and you cann uninstall and reinstall it after becoming native windows. So only solution was a soft re-install of windows
hey, my Vegas 17 works terrible with the rtx3060. it takes like 2x longer as with my old rx470 8gb card. i deleted all old drivers got the latest studio drivers and everything. restarted vegas and so on...but tue rtx3060 runs only at 50% and is soooo slow in preview an rendering. have you solved the problem ?
@@JonackFilmyea, it was faulty directX drivers, which are native now, so it required a re-install of windows. Just a repair install will do. A boot drive, tell it to install, keep all files and settings.
@@JonackFilm you are welcome. I tried to just re-install the direct x drivers, but you can't since they are native and it doesn't think anything is wrong with them, so it just leaves them as is, hence the windows install thing works.

I didn't have any problems with playback, when I render a 10 minute video at 1080p with MAGIX Vegas Pro 17 it takes an hour. While before when I had Sony Vegas pro 12 it would take 10 to 15 minutes. I have a NVIDIA GTX 1050ti.
I am using sony pro vegas 21 (365 version) with a very high end pc (i9 14900K, 7900 XTX Gpu, 128 Gb ram,990 SSD pro) and still even with the GPU accelaration, the latest drivers and vce codec i cannot exceed the 35 fps during 4K rendering (45 mbps, VBR). It seems to me pretty bad for a 5000 euro pc! The program does not utilize CPU & GPU more than 30% of their capacity. Any suggestions are welcome.
Despues de mucha busqueda por fin encontre la respuesta a los problemas que me daba vegas al seleccionar mi tarjeta de video, muchisimas gracias hermano
ive come to the conclusion after years to problems with sony vegas/magix that the software is useless, constantly getting "An application has requested more gpu memory than is available in the system" on a system with 64gb ram. clips are usually less than a minute with minimal effects and vegas constantly crashes and can't render anything.
Nice video, but your 4k video seems to be only 1080p according to "project" resolution in the preview area. When I edit 4k files the "project" resolution is an actual 4k resolution, and the "preview" will typically be at a lower resolution like HD. I'm ordering a new computer this week and I can't wait to try your settings.
belldigitalmedia i’ve tried 4K video on a 4K project and it playback just fine with minimal frame drop. Another thing you can do is add VEGAS into Nvidia 3D panel and set the OpenGL rendering to use your GPU, which in this case i’m using RTX2060. I’ve forgotten to highlight that in this video. Give it a try.
The resolution of the final video isn't dependent on the project settings except in the case of voukoder which default to rendering at project resolutions. According to Magix, you will get better *preview* performance if you match your project and source video resolutions so that Vegas doesn't have to constantly resize each frame. It's another area where they really need to make better use of the GPU for things that it's really good at.

Im using a Geforce 1070 on an FX-8350.
I think its speeding it up but its very subjective as I use a lot of Titler effects ehich are CPU bound.
Movie Studio is a lot cheaper, just make sure you spend the extra $10 to get the unlimited track version. The cheapest version is limited to 10 or 20 tracks...I forget which. The extra $20 Titler bundle is what I got... the Titler software is just ok, not fantastic, but I do use the heck out of it.
Davinchi Resolve is free but I dobt understand its interface worth a damn, so it was totally worth $70 to get a virus free copy and where I didnt have to learn a whole new aggravating system.
My brain goes back to Sony Acid... music track editir that Vegas evolved from?... so...I think that way.
when im rendering videos, it only use cpu 100% and 20% gpu, I have an rtx.. I activated all the options to use gpu but still nothing, and I have to wait half an hour every video I render.. if it use gpu it would be super fast...
i have the same problem. my cpu i like 100 and my rtx3060 is only at max. 50% how can this be ? have you solved it ?
@@JonackFilm no. Looks like the majority of those rendering programs focus on cpu.. just some heavy real time rendering ones seems to use gpu.
Updated this setting using my GTX950m and it made it only slightly better :( Stupid old PCs hahaha
kepp it fucker..you are my favourite youtuber..
Bro..It doesn't show my gpu under "Gpu acceleration of video processing"...only 1 option which is off...seems like the program cant find my card..its a gtx 1660 super
I have a 1650 super, and this happens to me too
@ same
at 0:44 there is no nivideia it says AUTO (OFF)
Do you have nvidia graphics card?
im not retarded i know this simple thing im just so frustraded cause like around 2 months ago it worked and now vegas dosent detect my gpu but that i mean when rendering there is only MainConcept AVC and in gpu acceleration it says gfx1010 i think...
and whats funny that when i type my problem on google or yt i get videos liek this....
edit - oh and i have amd setup and when looking in rendering there are only normal renders or intel and that makes no sens when i have amd
thank GOD for x2 playback speed

The audio is very hissy sounding.
epic!
Works for amd?
Yes, in the hardware decoder you can pick AMD. Make sure to update ur VEGAS Pro to the latest update
@@DatoAliffAlex mine is vegas 17 build 421 there is no file io

I use an AMD processor and it defaulted to Intel...
Are u using Nvidia GPU or AMD GPU? (Graphic Card)
Bro, I just realized I've had my sh*t set to Intel acceleration this whole time, no wonder it was running like a Potatoe. Just for context I'm running a Ryzen 2950X and an RTX 2080ti
Intel acceleration on AMD processor? excuse me?
@@luminumlx2604 Same with me and I have the same setup except with 2070 super. vegas is weird
