This is why you don't just get info from only one side or one reviewer. I saw the Verge's review of this, and afterward, though very informative and fair, I wasn't even sure if I wanted to invest in this. After watching this video, I'm excited again. It's always good to get reviews covering the entirety of something, The bad, the ugly, the fair, AND the good. Thank you iJustine for providing perspective and the good😃
@@marquesty1914 all day. This reminds me of Adobe Fresco a lot. How when it first started, it was getting similar criticism. Fast forward two years, now everyone seems to be moving from procreate to fresco because of how specialized it is, including myself, lol.
Thank you for posting this! I started a RUclips Channel this year and am using FCP on my IPAD. I can’t tell you how many times I have watched this video. I love that you aren’t just showing what the capabilities are, but showing them in practical applications on a live time video. This has been super helpful to me. Thank you!
There could definitely be more content about you giving video editing advice. Or just you editing and commenting on the process. Thanks, Justine! And thanks Apple for bringing Final Cut Pro to iPad, especially with the low barrier in comparison to the Mac version. Should definitely get a lot more people to try out video editing!
This is incredible ,it feels...looks... like you're sculpting a video rather than of ''programming'' it , im going to get addicted to this way of editing. It will be to odd going back to desktop or laptop where everything is mouse and keyboard. And you are correct about the External HD support, this could be a deal breaker until they sort that out!
Thanks for a great review! Can't wait to try it out too... Finally, the iPad Pro is becoming the pro device we all wanted years ago... :) I think this year is going to be exciting for the iPad... and this is only the start :) And my feeling is since FCP is a subscription too, we will see more updates to the app too (over time).
Thanks for the nice review. I really like how Apple integrated final cut into the iPad ecosystem. I am actually a davinci user and it's nice to see more editing programs on iPad. I have to say that I like resolve on iPad more, as they provide more features than final cut. On the other hand It's clear that final cut has an easier and a well-thought user interface.
Was super excited to try this .. and after playing with it for an hour, felt that the guys at Lumafusion did pretty good job in comparison. I have been editing all my RUclips videos on Lumafusion and all of these features are present on that app as well.
You are a rock star - love this and your videos! I am a professional editor (tv commercials / sizzles / shows) and have been cutting for over 25 years - working in TV for Oprah and advertising. I built my business, Phase6 Productions, on FCP in 2016. Apple is clearly targeting this new Final Cut 'Pro' for iPad to creators and not industry editors anymore. Super sad about this and will officially be moving my entire business to DaVinci now. Sad to say goodbye since I have been waiting for YEARS for an iPad version and this is not even CLOSE to what Final Cut for Mac can do. This is either iMovie Pro, or Final Cut. They might have taken 'Pro' off of the name for iPad for clarification. I'm glad they have a huge market of creators to use the app which seems solid for the amazing things you do. I am a fan - love your videos and thank you for this incredible explanation and all you do!
As a long time FCP user this is going to be fantastic! It's going to be the new way of doing rough cuts ... maybe even doing ALL editing one day. However, I can't even jump in till two things happen. 1) It is a requirement that you can edit off an external SSD or more likely a SD or Micro SD card hanging off the iPad with a short dongle. Or even better if the iPad Pro was actually a "Pro" device and had a SD slot on it. 2) FCP projects need to be universal. An editor NEEDS to be able to go back and forth between iPad and Mac ... not just one way. Extra credit for ... 3) the iPad Pro having the front facing camera on the side like the iPad Air so you can actually do talking heads easily and with proper sight lines. and 4) Take some of this great design simplicity and bring it back to the Mac version. Thanks Justin ... great video!
Still amazing to me how much is possible from the mobile tech now. Just picked up the iPhone 14 Pro Max and 12.9 iPad Pro. I really want to try this and see how it compares to my Devinchi Resolve desktop setup.
For professional editor this is something that they may have like a little plus, but for influencers that go around the world and do staff it’s preatty cool. Apple did a great job with the hand adaptation
I do a lot of photo editing but not much video editing. For video I am comfortable doling my editing on the iPad Pro and currently mostly use LumaFusion and one annoying issue is as I am an infrequent user I have to relearn a lot of it each time! Another option I’ve tried recently is basic editing in iMovie on the iPad and then send it to the iMac into FCP. I don’t want to pay for iOS FCP - unless I can activate and de-activate it as necessary … hmm. BTW I am a certified scuba diver for 32 years and my daughter and I are off to Komodo (~ Papua) this week. Good work thanks.
Just got a message from Imovie asking if I want to carry on editing my video with the Final Cut Pro for Ipad - I have been waiting for it, didn’t know it had arrived. I bought an IMac M1 specifically for this, but because the IMac is not touch screen I couldn’t get away with it. Been using IPads as main “computer” since they first came out. Your video just told me exactly what I needed to know. I love how you just cram in all the information people could hope for and more. In fact I bought my IMac M1 after watching your unboxing etc. So off to pay for the Cut Pro for Ipad, you should ask for commission!!! From Apple, not me!
The thumbs kind of sells me here. I'm not interested in an iPad port. The fact that it's being designed for the iPad with some of its own intuitive controls. Awesome. Great vid. Thanks!
Looked great for a couple minute video. Assuming I have the storage available on the iPad, how large of a video could you edit? I record my son’s baseball games (2 hours = 56GB) with GoPro, then edit out all but the last pitch of each at bat, and export out as .mp4 (10 minutes < 2 GB).
Excellent introduction video! I do want to point out that you started out like we were all beginners… But by the end, you were doing things very quickly, and iI was only able to catch what you were doing. It is obvious, however, that you became quite the pro at it!
Great review I’m going to be downloading it later today. The only thing I really want to do is save my Project as an alpha channel. I’m pretty certain you can’t do that at the moment can you? Keep up your amazing videos really helpful.🙂
You’re a pro already! Great breakdown, and I ❤ that you talked about having to unlearn Mac-based FCP editing. During my livestream demo today I kept trying to use it like it’s a Mac (with the Magic Keyboard) and it’s designed primarily for editing while holding the iPad. Once that clicked, the friction melted away. Thanks for making this vid! 🔪🥦🧲🎞️
Wait so If you take a video on another device other than apple, or on a digital camera, how do you transfer the files over to the ipad/final cut pro? Also it would be cool to see a video on more technical features! Like slow motion or other high quality editing. Thanks for the video, very useful.
Sorry to hear no worries tho us the other users will enjoy and let you know how it turns out I think people look into to hard you can pay 7.99 for tv supscriptions and apple care etc. but not for editing program if think your gonna use it a lot give it spin if you don’t use a lot and it’s not to standards cancel it anytime it’s really that simple. Trust me it’s a bummer to us all but not a breaking point
And what these people do not understand is that there is now literally nothing from stopping Apple from pulling an Adobe in a year and charging 25-50$ a month for this garbage.
It seems that Apple Pencil is only used for drawing doodles. The rest are more comfortable using hands, mouse and keyboard. I have an idea what if the Apple Pencil can edit with the Scribble feature. For example, the timeline cross out gesture can cut or delete or double click the apple pen to zoom out or zoom in.
When you import video, can you import it into FCP for iPad without it going to the Camera Roll/Photos? If it does go there, that would be bad since many of us don't want all our videos in Photos but only the final product.
Amazing - really - i have to try this :) For a rought cut may very nice - So Apple NOW rollout Mainstage for the iPad Pro 12.9 and i get really HAPPY ... PS: -> can FCP for the iPad ProRes ???
Two things: How do I stop the transition warning about shortening the clips when adding a transition. When playing back can the timeline move with the video position? The play head just scrolls off the screen. I guess I’m used to LumaFusion. 😊

iPad is a portable device. But the battery runs out quickly so I assume it must always be charging with a power bank if you are editing in a cafe. Now that means you don't have a socket for headphones. Obviously bluetooth is no good for editing due to lag, so how do you do it?
So how is it different from using a laptop than a iPad? if you wanted to download Final Cut Pro on your laptop, do you do the similar thing except just use the mouse? Also which kind of laptop is good to buy if you don’t have a lot of money? Thx 😊
Great video as always Justine. I’ve been using it a few hours and it made me want to lob my iPad Pro at a wall 😂 It’s definitely a new experience and not the same experience as you clearly pointed out. It as it’s own new thing I see potential but for now I’m glad I’m just using a trial. I did think though while my battery was going down dramatically with both using the camera then rendering surly this would need to be on the mains a lot for long edits and overtime that can’t be good for its battery surly!? I know you shouldn’t use your phone constantly on the mains so wouldn’t this be an issue? I guess a MacBook does it perfectly fine so apple probably has accounted for that? Time will tell I guess.
do you think that working off of an external drive is a limitation of the software that could be fixed through an update, or a limitation of the iPad pro itself?
What a pro, Justine whizzes through it like it's already second nature for her. She doesn't get enough credit as a skilled video editor.
Seriously. She went through it so quickly and provided what I needed for what I’m doing. Thanks Justine.
She is an annoying and biased fangirl, nothing more.
When using a large iPad, it's not advisable to work with those wheels. I believe an iPad Mini would provide a more enjoyable experience.
All the honest apple channels are telling us all the issues while this dumb blond is biased and doesn’t address any faults
And edited a video of her editing a video
Definitely had the same initial frustration but love how you’re looking at it as a touch first approach. That makes so much sense.
i barely JUST got comfortable with computer editing, but lemme try it now 😩
It’s similar don’t worry! Just the feeling of it is different and all new!
