I bought some Good Fellow tees few years ago and they really are decent. I've worn and washed the crap out of them so time to get some new ones. For me getting 6 tees for the same cost as 1 or 2 name brand is a no brainer in this aspect of wardrobe.
Too many things can go wrong with white, definitely would stick to the Costco brand. I love black pocket tee shirts, recently got a 3sixteen one for like $45 and it’s one of my favorites.
Thanks for the review. I’ve had good luck with the Kirkland/Costco white undershirts. They do darken quickly, but the necks tend not to stretch or sag on me. They’re good as undershirts for work or office wear, but I wouldn’t use them as stand alone shirts. I’ve been using those for about 7-8 years in Florida and west Tennessee humid climates for reference.
One other thing to add on about Goodfellow & Co. is the variety of color options available. I have been looking for years and have not found anywhere close to the same types of colors you can get at your local target. I’m not a fan of pocket tees as I find it hard to dress them up even slightly for my needs so blank tees are my bread and butter. I started getting Target brand tees back in high school when I got my first job because that was the best I could afford on a small paycheck. Back then they were still Mossimo brand which is now defunct and replaced by Goodfellow at a much better quality shirt. I still have some Mossimo shirts but those things are riddled with pilling. I’ve worn a good bit of Goodfellow shorts over the past several years and none have changed in texture as much as Mossimo did. If you’re wanting to experiment with different colors or patterned shirts, I’d say Target is a good place to go. I started out with a literal rainbow spectrum of colors when finding what I liked best and now I have a good assortment of blacks, blues, greens, and reds/pinks. Target is hard to beat when most of their shirts are $6-10 and you can get more color options than much higher quality brands.
I got the Goldenfoxboots Boondockers after you mentioned them as an alternative to more expensive heritage boots. I have really been enjoying them. They are well made and very comfortable. Really appreciate that you point out the stuff that is well made yet still affordable
Gotta go with The Flat Head for best T shirts in general. I’d recommend trying one out if you haven’t, they have a perfect balance of fit, interesting fabric/weave, a collar that doesn’t suffocate you and doesn’t restrict movement. In my opinion they have no peers.
I have been switching to wool over the last few years and recently found the Proof 72 hour from Huckberry. Would love if you did a review like this on merino tees.
I consider myself a “traveler,” and that caused me to purchase Merino Wool tees. I wanted six tees I could travel the world with. I bought all different brands at first to see what would work. In that first selection of maybe ten tees made of Merino Wool, I came up with two problems: 1. They’re rarely made in white. 2. When they are white, they stink after getting wet. I later found an off-white 82%, I think it is, Merino Wool tee by Wool & Prince that really works as an under tee. But the rest of the tees were really not what I would suspect. I wanted six Merino Wool tees that were exactly the same color, size, brand that could just make wearing clothes and easy decision daily. I bought really expensive $100+ Merino Wool tees and cheaper Merino Wool tees on Amazon as low as $40. What I found is that Merino Wool is not all equal. The biggest differences come from wearing the shirts by themselves led to some shirts feeling too heavy and some feeling too light, as in some having a lot of material and some not having enough material. So it really depends on what the climate is for where I wanted to wear them. And since I live in Thailand, one would think the lightweight Merino Wool would work best for me. But I found that not to be the case. For temperature regulation that comes with Merino Wool fabric, a medium to heavier density actually worked best for me. So I bought six WoolX $40 Merino Wool tees about four years ago on Amazon for my adventures. They have held up extremely well. I still have all six. No holes in any of them. I wear them when I travel. They are great for airline travel or bus travel for days at a time. Great for wearing one and putting one in a backpack for traveling via car and just swapping shirts once a week or so. And I wash them in the sink and sometimes shower and just let them hang dry in the shade. They’re always dry by the next day. I wear them for hiking and do photography, and I wear them on boat rides to diving or snorkeling excursions. They just wear so well. I kept four other Merino Wool tee brands, Unbound Merino, Wool & Prince, Western Rise, and Outlier. For value, none of these beat WoolX. But for comfort and color choices, Wool & Prince 78% Merino Wool does the job as a shirt to wear by itself. Unbound Merino works well as an under tee as it’s super lightweight. It’s so lightweight that when I wore it by itself, I would sometimes get the chills if I walked into a store that had cold air conditioning, but as an undershirt it holds up well. I recently thought about switching colors as it’s been about four years and I really want to switch from black to grey. But I found that Amazon no longer sells the WoolX. I found WoolX but they’re now over $85 on their own website. And for that money, I think I would prefer to give my money to a different company. As for a nice white cotton shirt, that I wear at home sleeping, I go with Calvin Klein 100% cotton. I found four packs at Homestore while I was in the US during the pandemic. I bought four packs of four-pack Calvin Klein tees in white. So yes I have 16 tees that are all the same except four shirts are v-neck. They’re super soft. They have no stitching down the sides. And they cost me $24 per pack of four. So for about $100, I got 16 tees to wear to bed or for wearing under a dress shirt on a rare occasion. I have owned some really nice tees ranging from American Giant and up. But none of them are much more comfortable than these Calvin Klein tees per value. However, if I were wearing them out in public, I would probably choose something that doesn’t state the brand name on them. They have a small Calvin Klein printed on the bottom waist hem. I really don’t want to sell a brand for them in that way. But I sure will with my words here as they’re a great tee for sleeping in or lounging around the house. Love the videos here. Cheers.
Grabbed a Kirkland after this (and carl’s other T-shirt podcast). These things are thick and have a workwear aesthetic without being boxy-no side seams (6 for 25$ to your door!) Bravestar is also doing some awesome stuff with 8.5 oz tshirts for 26$. I picked up an Olive one and I will be getting more once they stock.
Hey Carl! I just bought a Vela Sheen Rolled up T-Shirt and stumbled upon your video. So informative! Excited to explore more brands now. Keep those awesome reviews coming! 👍😄
I usually buy uniqlo supima cotton t-shirts. Now I'm interested to try the Kirkland Signature. It was cool to learn about the higher end stuff too. Thanks. :)
Cost per wear, buy it for life (BIFL), better quality stuff = owning less stuff. I'm late to the Carl RUclips channel but am happy that I found you and StrideWise. Rocking the Red Wings and just got my wilder backpack from Bradley Mountain. Your brand of content is great, pulling the plug on mindless TV. Keep up the great work!
Great content Carl! I do recommend the Kirkland brand white tee’s as well. Great fit to them. Was wondering if you’d be able to do some content on mens fragrances? Nothing to crazy, just some recommendations. Thanks Carl!
I have also been using the T shirts from Kirkland (Costco) I am onto my 2nd pack. Great for work under my sweatshirt and at home . Great value for money (£15) for a pack. Even my son used them at school for PE ( sports) They are good at keeping white.
I went to a thrift shop in Denver and bought a striped Freenote for like 5 or 10 bucks. Perfect condition and everything. It's wild to see their shirts on this list-- I had no idea what I was buying at the time!
@@zoknowmation451 really good! It's thick but it isn't hot/suffocating, and kind of has a canvas feel to it. Idk how else to describe it, but when you run your finger across the fabric you feel the texture of all the threads. Whereas my casual tshirts/printed on mass produced/Gildan/fruit of the loom, the surface feels smooth and you don't notice.
nothing against white tees but there's something about grey melange ones, the slubbier, the better, the way that looking rough but feeling soft texture combines with denim or dark navy blazer is something else. The Real McCoy and Whitesville make nice ones, Merz B isn't melangey and slubby enough.
Own Goodfellow and Kirkland tees. I am 6' and 200 lbs. I purchased a large in Goodfellow and found it was short and boxy with small sleeves. Medium was too small. Decent quality though. Kirkland is pretty long. So, great as a tucked in undershirt but bunches at the waist if wearing alone untucked. Thanks for the video! Would have maybe liked to see more in the $20-$40 range.
I've enjoyed high quality t shirts recently, thanks especially to No Man Walks Alone and Grailed. Love all the Merz (have a bunch of them now), but Blurhms and Kaptain Sunshine also put forward some beautiful white t options. Blurhms is odd because it gives off a very casual vibe while simultaneously feeling just like purely well made comfort. Incidentally, the t that fits me best isn't white but is a Goodlife. At 60 bucks, it's a pretty good value compared to some.
I like cuts clothing, fits really well and very little branding besides an X stitch. Been tough to find shirts that fit my narrow torso and not feel box, which most "standard" fit shirts are, and what's great about cuts is that they offer tailored or standard cuts to fit more body types.
@@bheinatz1 I've not tried their sea island cotton t-shirts. I can imagine they're good. I have some John Smedley sea island tops and I like them a lot.
Hey Carl, thanks for the video. It was very informative, it really does depend on your usage of the tee. I also loved the sweater you wore in the video. Could you tell me where it was from? Thanks!
I'm 5'11/150lbs. Need a slim fitting tee. $100 tee is out of the question - risk of dirt and I'm going to wash it after two times wearing it because its gonna smell like my sweat. Will a $100 tee fit the bill of long lasting without getting the stain after wear 20 rendering it unwearable? I dunno.
Right off the rip, the Iron Heart stands out completely no contest in the fit. That's a good looking, well fitted tee. However if you're looking for a damn good robust shirt, Uniqlo. Their U line is actually good for the price.
that is the best japanese t imo. boncoura have the best pocket t at 10oz. tbh i think the merz tshirt is better than both because its far cheaper and the weave that merz do makes the fabric look pretty soulful.
i hope there will be part 2 off this video that is full of close ups of different details between them, coulor, sleevs pocket, end seem and so on. really interesting subjest
Which one would you suggest for someone who is very thin (I am 5'11" and about 145 pounds). I tried on the Merz B. Schwanen Heavy Weight T-Shirt and it was too boxy on me. However, the Merz B. Schwanen Sea Island Cotton Tee fit around my form nicely but was too expensive (almost $200).
Have you ever experimented with James Perse? I bought a few of their shirts and they seem very nice. Theyre made in the USA with 100% combed cotton. They cost the same as the ironheart shirt.
I appreciate the new mission statement at the beginning of each video. It really distinguishes the channel from other fashion channels. Also, I hope you meant to say you're eating a gram of protein per pound of body weight 😂
Some of those T-shirts sound pretty interesting. If I’m using on as an undershirt I tend to go with Tani, and Ministry of Supply for a T-shirt that I wear by itself mostly because their T-shirts fit my body well.
I've tried a bunch of fancy T-shirts and Merz B Schwanen 2-thread is my favourite. Incredibly soft and comfy, good cut on a tall skinny guy like me. Also like Warehouse a lot, they have the most interesting fabric but the fit's not quite as good for my frame. I have one of those Freenote tees and the cut and construction is excellent, but the fabric is not nearly as soft as Merz. To be honest I've had JCrew tees that were about as nice or better as the Freenote jersey.
Review some dynema denim. Generally marketed to motorcyclist as fall gear but half the fibers being replaced with dynema should make them lighter, stronger, cooler, far more abrasion and cut resistance than cotton.
I've been switching to carhartt k87s for a nice middle ground between durable and replaceable. They've lasted me a longer time than the cheapo Hanes type shirts. I only wish there were some good slimmer fit options.
This is a strange request but can you review different baseball/trucker caps that are good quality? The reason I ask is that I cannot find any that seem good in quality and have a good country of manufacturing. Maybe I’m being picky though, who knows.
Can't thank you enough Carl for taking the time to give a much needed overview on the basic white tee, from high-end to affordable. (Although even that is relative) A great basic white tee has always been a grailed item for me, as I wear one each and every day. The Merz one may seem expensive, but I think that they use sea island cotton, which is a costly material to begin with. Then you need to factor in the design/finish/and for those in the US import costs. I've worn every conceivable white tee over the years and have never been 100% satisfied, that is until I discovered a white sanforized 100% cotton tee from Zara...Yup! high St Zara! at an incredible $12 a pop. This tee is called 'The T-Shirt' and is amazing....Smooth and soft and brilliant white. It washes great too, slight shrinkage and doesn't require ironing!!
Hi Carl. So I am looking for a solid hoodie and I have a few on my wishlist (Iron Heart, 3sixteen, UES, Wonder Looper etc.) do you have any recommendations? Regards from Denmark :)
Howdy, I'm not Carl but randomly I thought I'd give an opinion if you still wanted a hoodie. Not knowing your specs on body size, just in general, I'd say landing a lady white co hoodie or a warehouse hoodie would be your best options. Pretty widely available and come in a variety of colors and fits. For a little extra dough you could do a merz hoodie. For a little less money I'd shop at the online store Huckberry and see what hoodies they have and if they ship to you. A hoodie can be almost 200 dollars or under 100 and both could suit your needs!
I consider myself stout, thus its hard to find a tee which fits well for me. And its not easy to get quality Made in USA tee here in my country without high shipping fees. I had Hanes Beefy-T through a friend by chance. I like its short length for my short height, thickness just nice for my country's humid climate. But its not easy to find one again. Next best I can get easily here is Uniqlo U Crew Neck, but one problem I notice about this "series" is that the production isn't consistent. What you get now might not the same next season, though the branding is the same. Comparing U Crew Neck to Hanes Beefy-T, U is slimmer and longer in length but thicker material. Considering the climate and fit, I will definitely go back to Beefy-T but only problem it is not easy to find here. What I like about plain tee. The neck should not crinkle after multiple wears, the body shape should lose its shape into a "A" which is embarrassing like a skirt. And important, white tee stays white not beige or stained, I hope you guys what I mean...
I find i want to replace white tees by the time they start to wear anyway because they loose the brightness of the white I have not been able to reliably remove pit stains
Love the channel sir! Keep up the excellent work. PS. If you have not checked out Anian slow fashion up in Canada ya should. Would fit right in with this channel and excellent quality. Their sweaters and Melton wool shirts are top notch.
What ever happened to the V neck Tee ??? I find those very nice and handy, I use to wear them with jeans and a blazer to go to work. But lately I haven’t found a good one to wear not like an underwear.
Some good choices here, but I feel you left out 2 Really great options that beat out pretty much Everything mentioned, Brave Star & RGT, At over 8oz or so at a cost of 26/38$ usd they beat out Warehouse, Freenote, 3sixteen Ironheart and any other higher end Japan or US made heavyweight cotton tee. For the undershirts Calvin Klein Are OK, but for around the same price, sometimes cheaper the Ralph Lauren 4 packs are a Much better product, Softer, longer, and hold up better after numerous washes. For a Cheaper option the Gildan HAMMER tees can be found on eBay & Amazon anywhere from 4-12$USD, I got 5 packs of 2 @ $10 each with a 50% coupon, so $25 for 10 Tees, kinda like the Hanes Beefy but softer, better fitting.
Forgot to mention, Sugar Canes Whitesville brand, if you can find em, 2 packs run anywhere from 60-90usd, And the Top of the Line if your gonna spend 60-70 & up The Real McCoy have 2 packs for 112£ GBP, ($135ishusd?)
Yours is the best comment I've seen on this topic. I'd add that the Kirkland brand of t-shirts are 7.9 oz and really good as well, especially when you consider they are $30 for 6 tees. As mentioned in the video their necks are guaranteed not to stretch out either.
@@daithi1966 Wow I’ll have to check those out, 30 for 6 is a crazy deal. Might be awhile though…I’ve been stocking up on every sale I can find for the last few months. On the Waffle/Thermal shirts now, Some great deals happening now & should only get better the closer to Black Friday we get.
@Carl Murawski @5:17 you meant 1 gram per pound of bodyweight right? As it would require a pallet of cereal to meet 1lb of protein per lb of weight lol
Hanes t-shirts got scratchy? No, they didn't. For a cheap around-the-house, doing-chores, running-errands t-shirt, Hanes and Ryder (and probably most inexpensive shirts) are just fine. Unless it slays at every party you wear it to, you don't get your money's worth when you buy a $70 t-shirt.

Wash them with vinegar and baking soda it help with white clothes
With white clothes, I usually accidentally destroy them before they could ever wear out. How do you keep that stuff clean?
Exactly. No way would I spend that $$$ on white.
Only wear it once! 🤗
Washing machine
The only way I can destroy a shirt is if I eat spaghetti or soups. Don’t be ashamed of tucking a napkin under your collar when eating those dishes.
Wear it under a denim shirt. Lol

studio d’ artisan suvin gold loopwheel t-shirt= best
that is the best japanese t imo. boncoura have the best pocket t at 10oz. tbh i think the merz tshirt is better than both because its far cheaper and the weave that merz do makes the fabric look pretty soulful.
i hope there will be part 2 off this video that is full of close ups of different details between them, coulor, sleevs pocket, end seem and so on. really interesting subjest
I can definitely break down a few. Some are really interesting!
I'd like to hear your thoughts on the Soffe Men's 3 Pack men's shirts!
Brb, going to Target
You gotta love Carl a proper gent!
Review pro club shirts
Could you do a video on the heaviest tees? Always looking for the heaviest white t shirts out there
Kirkland T Shirts! Great product and value!
God bless you man but I’m sticking with my 8-pack of Gildans from Amazon.
That Warehouse and Ironheart t-shirt look good!
I love that you do these, but most of these are way our of my price range.
Can you do a mid cost comparison. Like 5.11, Carhartt, and Duluth.
Awesome video :) Albert is such a nice guy, love seeing him in your videos!
Fruit of the loom t-shirts in-combination with cats is pretty good from a cost perspective.
Any reviews coming out the Whitesville Quality-T?
Edwin (Made in Japan) , Orslow (Made in Japan) , New Balance (Made in USA) great alternative
You need to try the REGULAR-FIT MID-WEIGHT BRUSHED T-SHIRT, from the swedish brand COS. Is a 160 gms t- shirt of 💯 cotton.
I have a couple of tees from these brands. My favorite are from a brand named ASKET. Definitely a brand I would check out, very sustainable too!
Curious, did you hot or cold wash for the shrinkage test? I’d think that would change the overall amount of shrinkage. Thanks for the thorough video!
Does anyone still wash clothes in hot water?
5.11 tactical makes a really great white pocket tee for about 38 bucks. It's called the elite tee and they last a really long time
True classic all the way long sleeve white for work let’s go champ!
I've bought ringspun tees from Left Field and Bronson Mfg. They're good.
Carl I always appreciate your work! Honest reviews, thank you brother.
Such an underappreciated channel...
Hmm. Could you link that tee?
What shirt is that your wearing in the beginning? The plaid western shirt
Dickies brand heavy weight t shirts and Henley's are amazing!!!!
Goodfellow & co is the best.
I find i want to replace white tees by the time they start to wear anyway because they loose the brightness of the white
I have not been able to reliably remove pit stains
Doing a test I just picked up a 4 pack of goodfellow 100% cotton t shirts for $17
Hanes beefy tee is a classic and it’s 6 oz and oh yea it’s 2 for $14
On your sponsor portion, we all know you meant 1 gram protein/lb, not 1lb protein/lb of bodyweight.
En Guatemala 🇬🇹 he encontrado goodfellow & con, y me encantan son las que mejor se ajustan a mi tipo de cuerpo. Saludos!
Thank you so much for the details review
My pleasure 😊
Correct
I'm at $15 for a 3 pack of white t-shirts for undershirts...
3sixteen makes some killer t shirts. You should check them out if you haven’t yet. Great vid btw!
Hmmm. What does that say about brand snobbery? You struggle to tell the difference in Iron Heart and Target.
Missed out on Dehen1920s tee, made in USA
That’s one thing I don’t own and likely never will.
I think the algorithm heard me curse the heavens as the spaghetti 🍝 splashed on my new white t shirt before I even made it out the house
The indigofera Wilson tee is $79 on the Franklin & Poe website now. I guess it’s inflation….
I like the Sunspel variety of Supima tshirts. The color and neck has stood up great even after 10+ washes.
With too many perfectly good inexpensive options, no way I'm paying more than $25 for a teeshirt.
You need know the brand son of a tailor. They are créate the perfect t-shirt for everyone.
Just looking for the best tee I can buy my boyfriend which I can then steal! 😂
