Love my Represent Clo T shirts! Made in Portugal. Medium weight and super soft! On the expensive side, but the quality is so fire. Love oversized and thick collars so these are my go to right now.
I own probably 5 Imogene + Willie shirts and love them. Couldn't recommend them higher. I agree they are washed and cropped to be like a vintage shirt, but I have no problem wearing them everyday.
I don't think heavy weight is something that is universally appreciated in t-shirts. I have heavy GSM t-shirts that I layer with in the winter, but in warmer climate summers you just can't wear those in the summer. In these climates lighter t-shirts and usually blends beat anything heavy. You want something to keep you cool, and also to dry out when it inevitably gets wet if you move around too much. In that sense, a lot of the heavy t-shirts that try to convince you they're worth the price because they're throwing a few cents more worth of material on the garment are not just "not better", they're unusable.
Yeah, this isn''t a comprehensive "best to worst" comparison in every situation, but one that suits Michael in his temperate environment. The reason he favors the thick shirts is because they suit his climate. If you're in the tropics or desert kind of environment, the tier list might actually go in reverse. Thick shirts will kill you with heat and moisture, and thinner shirts with synthetic blends will keep you cooler.
RRL, Sunspel, and Visvim are my favorites. All ridiculously expensive. Rrl and visvim wear really nice over time and Sunspel have the best fit I’ve found
Cincinnati represent! Velva Sheen was pretty big when I was a kid. Thanks for peaking my interest in all things t-shirts. $124 and even $99 is crazy for a t, but that's just me.
I’ve been back and forth about buying an Imogene and Willie shirt. This video definitely helped me out with that decision! Even though they were low on the list, I’m sold on getting one. And also checking out some lady white shirts now too. 👌🏽
I'd like to provide a recommendation; if you're looking for the BEST men's cotton t-shirt, then without doubt for me it's Sunspel Classic T (the made in England version) for the price ($100). I've collected many T's, from the brands mentioned in this video as well as from expensive brands like Loro Piana, Zegna, brunello cucinelli etc., and by far Sunspel is the best at making T's from 100% cotton. So when it comes to T-shirts made from 100% cotton, Sunspel wins. However, if you're looking for T-shirts made from different materials like (70% cotton + 30% cashmere or Silk), then the expensive brands win because they have far superior mills / fabrics, but expect to pay $500-1000 for a t-shirt.
I recently started wearing some Uniqlo shirts and I don't find them that thin. So far so good with more than a dozen washes they keep the white and the shape.
This, this is what I've been waiting for! (it's just not very friendly for a UK market, but that's okay) All that and wearing a Zenith Revival Shadow, I could be in heaven. Uniqlo for me is the bang for buck - and I can get'um in the UK.
Good summary. I was a lady white co head before switching to 3sixteen. I think 3sixteen just does quite a bit better hanging onto its color and fit over time. Real test is always going to be in a white t-shirt. 3Sixteen’s thick white t-shirts dominate Lady White Co over time.
I buy Gildan Ringspun t shirts in packs of 3 from ebay at around $20 bucks for the set, they fit great and are very good quality, with the cotton sourced from U.S. Even expensive brands like Sunspel source their cotton from United States.
Best Made Co (now owned by Duluth) makes a great t-shirt. Made in US of US-grown Pima cotton. Soft, durable, pocket t-shirt at $40. My new favorite t-shirt.
8:22 "virtually zero gravity" then goes on a few seconds later to show a clip lifting the t-shirt then dropping it, as if to prove it is actually weightless. 😆 That flannel shirt in the sponsorship looks great
My current favorite tee shirt brand is Gettees. The QC is solid but not perfect, the weight is nice and is supima cotton and made in Detroit, oh and they only cost about 25 dollars.
A little disappointed Iron Heart, Jungmaven, Left Field NYC, Sunspell or Velva Sheen weren't on the list. Might be worth making a 2nd video on this topic
Standard and Strange Wakayama Special is the best t-shirt. I have the studio d'artisan as well, it's nice but just a little thicker than I usually prefer. Warehouse makes a fantastic tee too.
Bangladesh actually makes both low quality and high quality clothes. It depends on what the company is looking for. Companies like h&m and Zara mostly want cheap low quality clothes so that's they get. They are the reason for driving wages down in garment industry.
From what I know, H&M stuff is non-durable, made from a low quality cotton. Uniqlo ( at least Uniqlo U ) is pretty good for a mass-market t-shirt, but slightly rough. SDA is on another level, a top-notch fabric in every sense ( like other Japanese brands such as Samurai, Barns, Tanuki, etc. )
Goodwear makes heavyweight and lightweight tees MIUSA for about $40. Good fit and collar. Heavy weights a bit stiff. I believe they’re based in Massachusetts so me being in Boston I got my order within about 2 days
Bit of an expensive series to make, but i'd love for you to travel to different countries and buy high quality clothes to review. Would love your take on Scotch and Soda, some Scandi brands, UK etc
Some of my favorite basic T-shirts are from Bronson. Their 10.5oz shirts are so much better then the price deserves to be. About $30 and the collars are so heavy duty (folded over) and haven’t lost their shape in the year I’ve owned mine. I got others from Jackman, Freenote Cloth, Bravestar, and vintage Champion Tees, but my Low cost Bronson Tees are my most worn. Also, I just got that same UES Flannel in the Ad. Love their flannels, some of the best in the game!
Is it just me or they got progressively worse as the price went up? 135 dollars for raw cotton that still has some of the seeds just seems dumb, it is heavy, rough and uneven. Why would you pay more for something that provides less comfort?
Foxfibre has an amazing story if you're into the source of your clothes. Sally Fox bred her own strain of cotton with Pima and other long staple brands. It's drought and pest resistant so it needs less water and herbicide. Depending on the strain it naturally grows brown or green or red so you don't have to dye it. And she did it all in the US I personally don't think it's more comfortable than supima or suvin gold or peruvian pima but I respect what she's doing
I own a few I+W shirts. They have a vintage fit so they are cropped to have a shorter fit at the hem. But overall they still fit TTS, just expect that vintage fit. Check their site before buying because some shirts have different sizing but they usually say so on the site. Personally I love my I+W shirts and I highly recommend them.
Also, there are other blends then just 100% cotton. cotton/ploy, cotton/cashmere, merino wool, etc all have different benefits. & If you can find a good vintage blank... they will likely be even better than any of these.
do you have a video on what attracted you to heritage garments in the first place? If so, you should make one! I've been mulling it over myself think it's a combination of post-modern insecurities and concerns for sustainability. Would love to hear your thoughts on it.
Heavyweight, dense cotton does not equal quality. I prefer a much finer, thinner T-shirt, but not that crappy, undershirt jersey material. Try a nice sea island cotton shirt. Sea Island cotton has a much longer, stronger staple, which allows for a much finer yarn to be spun. In turn, this can be woven into an extremely fine, gauzy, dry cotton that allows airflow, while also being extremely durable and had a beautiful drape and hand to it. Sunspel makes a couple sea island shirts around the same price point as those Japanese loopwheel ones. A little higher end than that RLPL, Brioni, Zegna and Kiton. Don't cheat yourself, instead treat yourself!
Standard and Strange just came out with some lovely new loopwheel shirts (their house brand). I got to see some in Santa Fe. Might pick one up, just need to get over the slightly roomier fit. They're $95 so a little cheaper than your other loopwheel ones.
Great video Michael, One of my favorite T's is from John Henric(a little bit more dressier company) and is a 70% linen 30% cotton. I got it for 17$ after sale and I love the linen charecaristics.
I’m shocked at how low the Imogene + Willie shirt ranked. I love their classic t-shirt. For me, the vintage white color is what sets it apart. They just go so well with denim.
Agreed I+W shirts are awesome. Graphics, wash, crop, everything hits. Not sure as to why any of these things would disqualify them in the reviewer's eyes.
I was just looking for a good basic T-Shirt myself. I wanted sth. heavyweight but as you mentioned they start to get uncomfortable because the seams are so big. I settled on Uniqlos Supima Cotton and size up and wash it hot to make it a bit denser.
You missed out on Carhartt k87. I do think the quality has slightly declined, but they're awesome for around $20.00. I have many that are ~10 years old that I still wear. 👍
@@Nuggetbusterr your literally comparing tshirts from 10 years ago to ones made today like seriously how are you even questioning me what? Jesus christ i guess i shouldnt expect much from someone making such a du**a** statement
The Uniqlo looks silly on you is probably because you are slouching or you are pushing your shoulders forward. And most of the expensive options are seemingly muscle fit or made for wider shoulders Uniqlo is made for Asian physique, which is generally small by caucasian standards.
I kept waiting for the shirts to bounce off the table when you dribbled them….and also I did not appreciate being called “you other people” I prefer what my mother calls me - big boned. Good content per usual good stuff man.
Am I weird for liking ridiculously light weight t shirts? Like, ones that are basically see through. they're comfortable and they make my body look like it has more texture than it does.
Two videos this week
Don't sleep on the Hanes garment dyed tees
I love that saying "if you arent paying for it, someone else is"

visvim tees are incredible

I have one I+W shirt and it’s definitely worth it for the vintage feel and cool factor of their screen print. I have the lightning tee
Lady white co's heavyweight rugby shirts are the only tshirt I have ever fallen in love with. Worth every penny
Please do a video on henley shirts, especially short sleeve ones.
