This is the John Mellencamp I grew up on and love. Really miss that classic band with Larry Crane, Toby Myers and Kenny Aronoff

Agreed, I never saw Larry live with John, not sure what happened there but John is definitely ALL about himself, only Mike could put up with his arrogance for all these years

@@rock90753 Money, it's always about money. Plus John and Larry have known each other since they were kids and John was always making all kinds of snide remarks about Larry.

@@bitchnguy Agreed, and let's face it, John can make magic with any musicians. Watch the 'John Mellencamp Human Wheels in Chicago 9/11/1993' concert (great) and in the middle he says something like "this is me every day", and to me it was very dismissive of the band. Ie. it should have been "this is us every day".... not 'me'....

Mellencamp with his original band, back when they rocked
    1. Thirty Days in the Hole

Agree with you!!! Love the Authority Song too!! I was lucky enough to be in a video, albeit from a distance. He did the video for "Check it Out" live , but it took many, many takes (planned), Like the song had to stop many times while they were filming it and the lights were directed to the crowd for key shots, especially toward the end of the video. He was so popular at the time of the video production, that in Indy he had to have multiple concert dates all in a row (in a 17,000 seat arena - MSA). He was very appreciative of the audience's patience during the taping. There were mechanically driven boom camera operators everywhere. Here's the official video for the song: ruclips.net/video/8qxDBiiVjlQ/видео.html

The way Kenny locks in that groove at 7:03... damn. That's so much better than the version on the record (which he didn't play on). The man is a machine, and that snare sound is one of a kind. I wonder if John's brief crackup when he starts singing is a measure of appreciation of that.

Even artists who had teenish personas- like Cyndi Lauper and Toni Basil- were over 30. I think Basil was close to 40!
