I was awestruck the first time I saw Davy play live. Just blown away. He closed a small blues festival here, and had some VERY tough acts to follow. In fact when he first walked out on stage, I was like WTF is THIS guy doing closing this show??? No sunglasses, no tattoos or flashy jewelry or long hair - just that beat up old tele, a plaid shirt, and plugged into a VOX AC 30. Maybe a small pedalboard too, but that's it. Well, I got an education that night. I've seen most of the greats play live - BB King, Stevie Ray, Randy Rhodes, Pete Townsed, and I'm telling you - this guy is on the same level, but he's undiscovered. Joe Bonassmassa is a punter compared to Davy, and I personally think Davy plays with a lot more soul than Clapton, has much better phrasing, is more original in his leads, more fluid, and obviously signs MUCH better. Of course Clapton was the trailblazer for this sort of hard-rock blues, so Davy is standing on his shoulders, and those of so many others from the previous generation, but he's moved the genre forward, and is breathing new life into it here. This guy is keeping the blues alive and kicking for the next generation
I saw him at the Morristown Jazz & Blues Festival in Morristown, N.J. in August and I totally agree. He was the highlight of the festival, and he was up against some great acts! I saw Steve Katz, Rob Paparozzi, and the Bernard Allison Group (they took second place to Davy). He played through a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe I think. The keyboardist blew everyone away, too. The crowd went nuts, we would've stayed and watched him until the sun came up!
I agree that Davy really has the soul and talent needed to make this beautiful genre(s) of music work! Im keeping a close eye on what he does! Much respect for his work, thanks Davy :).
Davy is from the Isle of Mann, a small island which astronauts use as a game to see who can see it first when circling the planet. Some are big DK fans and carried his music on the shuttle. When they returned, they came to one of his performances on the island and gave him a mission patch. :)
I've been aware of how great musician Davy is, since the Roll Away LP, but to be honest, as a guitarist - I'm totally astonished what level of mastery he has reached with this telecaster during this performance. Beyond my imagination.
Excellent I Iove it one of the follower here my future blues music while I’m sitting down in my Rockin chair somewhere in my farm retired old senior citizen back to motherland 🇵🇭
Every time I,watch and listen to him, I am,amazed. Amazed that had not heard of him before. I was blown, away by, a cover he did of "Almost Cut my,Hair" by David Crosby from about 9-10 years ago and have been blown, away ever, since. This would be right up there. He definitely, holds his own to ANYONE.
Saw Davy at a very small club in FL with the brilliant Gerry McAvoy and the late great Ted McKenna. It was a Rory tribute show and featured 2 hours of blazing Rory music with Davy Knowles' talent and Rory influence on full display. Just an unforgettable night of elite musicians and music. And all 3 were gracious and friendly and accommodating after the show. Davy is a fantastic talent and his own music stands up to anyones.
Really enjoying this video. Davy and the band are squeezing all the soul out of that humid Florida air and wrestling that broken heart to the ground. Thanks @1anitrasdance for posting all this awesome footage. It's a great archive of live blues music.
Good job! 🎸 I went to the friends of Rory Gallagher show last December in Portland, OR, & Dave was really really killing it along with Rory's band, if he comes to your town don't miss him.
I've seen Davy Knowles in concert. He is really good and in my opinion is an undiscovered talent that should be "discovered" and he'll become more well known at that point.
Keeping the Rock& Roll alive I see.. way to freaking go man.. keep it up bro, carry the torch. Rock is nearly extinct, By the way anyone reading this that can turn me on to other current Rock thats truly LEGIT like Ol Davy here please pass it on..
I was there at Coachman Park by accident on a bike ride most people had left by then, the really sad part is I forgot his name until I stumbled on this video. As a guitarist I really can appreciate his emotion and skill in playing . Now he's became one of my favorites along with Samantha Fish.
SRV is an influence on Davy's playing, as is Knoplfer, Gallagher and Clapton probably even more so. He has found a style all of his own with a shed load of other guitarists helping him find it and he isn't ashamed to say he has stolen from the best to get that style.
Stealing has been done since Son House. He has just taken his influences, and made them his own. Its so hard to be a distinctive sound player anymore. The Tele is something different.......you know what I mean......volume swells, great job! Moves around the neck......great player imop
And SRV was a bad MF. He influenced anyone that came after him that ever heard him play. Did me for sure!!! Its just good to see people that still appreciate this kinda music. God bless you for that!
I love just knowing that those sounds are hiding in my Tele.. Thank you for sharing this and thank you Davy Knowles for playing some of thee most pure music I've heard!
He’s sporting a replica of the first really good guitar I ever had. Black Tele at age 14. Thanks Mom & Dad. A best friend owns it now. Sold it to him when I got my first Strat. Oh yeah, this is about Davy. Sorry 😢. He’s very much a player. Great phrasing of his solos. Glad he showed up as a recommendation. 😎🤘
Davy is one of the best blues players and singers to come along in decades. Live work is how he needs to ply his trade in the talent show dross, autotune era. He's only made 3 studio albums since 2014.
He is BY FAR the MOST emotional artist there is out there!!!!

He was the head liner.

Davey is the most underrated blues singer songwriter performer guitar player ever to live. Love this guy. ❤

Wow - great performance! The mastery of that telecaster is off the charts.

One of the best blues rock song ever in my musical opinion
You're not wrong in my opinion.

Utterly fantastic, no other words! I’ve been working my entire life to convey my feelings out to my fingers like this man can.

He may be young BUT he's got an OLD SOUL as they say. Really good, and the keyboard guy was outta site!

I can feel the energy and intensity SRV was putting into his blues, or am I the only one?

The keyboarder is amazing, of course, the whole band is too..
he has overtaken his heroes.
he comes from a long line of Brit and Irish Bluesmen!! certainly had great influences!
This is personification of blues channeled through a young dude from the Isle of Man via Robert Johnson himself.

AD IN THE MIDDLE OF THE SONG WHAT?!?!?!?!😢
If you get ad block then that should take care of it
Rory Gallagher was a real power house....he would be proud of Davy Knowles.
