Before I even watch this, thank you for being a channel willing to go through OG Xbox titles. My grandfather owned it until it was willed to me and he had a unique perspective on games and seeing games like this I've not seen before reminded me a bit of him this AM. So thank you for that.
@@bobbinsthethird I think Halo-> Halo 2 was his favorite proof of the jump in software and was his reasoning why tweaking hardware is better then buying new hardware every 6 months. But to answer your question of his favorite to play I think it was between Sid Meiers Pirates! And I think Star Wars Clone Wars? One of the Star Wars games with focus on more vehicular combat. To be honest there were so many Star Wars games its hard to know. But he also really liked that platformer with the Voodoo doll that I cant remember. He had that and Ty the Tazmanian tiger as his two core platformers. I think he mightve gotten the console due to rumors of Duke Nukem coming out following an E3 and then that of course never happened (later got scrapped and became Forever) since he loved the series on PC. I'd have to go into the closet to see what else he had. Its been a minute!
@@bobbinsthethird I looked in the closet rubble and "Voodoo Vince" was sticking out so that's probably the title I was referring to. No idea if you've ever seen that!
The graphics in this game were quite impressive back in the day, for anyone outside of high-end PC gaming anyway. There's a part where you're in a kind of sleepy and quaint English village, and the stage looked so smooth and clear compared with everything I had been used to up until then, even though I had owned an Xbox since the week it came out and I only played this game a couple years into it's life. I didn't have the tech knowledge then to express WHY it looked so good that I do now. Basically, the resolution was higher, I think maybe there was also some filtering going on, anisotropic perhaps. Whereas other games played at around 480p, I suspect I might find that this game played at 720p/i or even 1080i. My TV at the time was an old-style CRT, so I couldn't have seen all the extra pixels, but still it was so crisp and clear, which makes me think there was probably some other stuff going on like filtering. That's all I really remember about this game, the crispy graphics. The video here can't possibly do the impact of seeing those graphics 20 years ago any justice. I guess it would be like when I saw something like Senua's Sacrifice for the first time with it's face work, you could just see it was beyond anything you saw before that point.
Great review as always. Love the series and every installment is awesome. If you love the crate puzzles, wait til you play the goat puzzle on the first game. 😂
Personally, my feeling with point and click titles are complicated because extremely cryptic puzzles can kill a good pacing even with a good story. However, I like some variety of puzzle that uses the environment to enhance the overall atmosphere as if you’re uncovering an adventure. Personally….I only played but not completed Broken Sword 1 since I never knew where to go next sometimes…and I don’t like to resort to clicking every little spot to progress. Still, I will keep this on my radar, since I like bombastically good story with solid character development. The sixth generation didn’t have an enormous ton of of this genre, so it’s nice to see what they did here.
Omg I remember seeing a friend play this when I was a kid and could never remember the name of it! Might have to check it out sometime. I feel like Shenmue 2 is gonna be similar to this for you. Gameplay is a bit clunky but the story is pretty damn good. That and the voice acting is charmingly bad.
No wonder i never heard of it due to not being in U.S. although i recently played thru terraenigma on snes(rom because no us version was released) i can say it rivals any game on the snes.Maybe right up there to link to the past or even chronotrigger imo it was better than illusion of gaia, actraisers and many others imo
I have been playing the Broken Sword series many times since 1993. But every time I get to part 3 I want to rage-quit or throw my monitor out of the window -- the controls must have been conceived when the entire studio was drunk while smoking weed. For crying out loud! The controls are the epiphany of bad.

I appreciate the kind words! I'm glad you can relive some great memories of your grandfather.
What was your Grandfather's favorite OG Xbox game?

I remember playing it as a Demo on PC and it was a bit strange and I just know a bit the classic ones. But good and interesting points of view :)
The whole broken sword series is amazing.
Great video😄😄😄
Games like this age so well. We rarely get writing and voice acting this good in the modern era.
Is it just me that sees Elon Musk on the cover art here? 😂
THANK YOU! I'm not the only one lol
Hahaha I just wrote that myself

Loved this game
It'll be very nice if they remaster this game. Now that we're getting a remaster of the first Broken Sword game.
