      Peppermint Queen - Hehe. I didn't exactly feel that way, but I thought that the actor is not big or handsome enough (although he looked more handsome in the film than in his interviews). Stevens is rather thin whereas the prince in the animated version was tall and more muscular-looking, so the stature of the beast was not lost. Hence, the transformation wasn't awkward.

    I really liked that when Belle asks why the servants were punished too because they did nothing, Mrs. Potts says that she's right they did nothing when his father turned him into a cad. In the animated version you never hear that. I always assumed that the servants were punished because they raised him in the animated version. It was nice to hear them take some responsibility.

      train a child when they are young,and when they are old they shall not depart from it. That Prince might have been a beast to people who were beneath him, but his servants had seen this happening and did not punish him. This is what happens when you don't discipline your children, let them get away with everything. they grow up spoiled, Selfish, and unkind.

      It is the job of the king to rule, yes -- but it is the job of the people to stop him when he goes wrong. To quote the webcomic _Freefall_, "One of the surest ways to help someone fail is to obey their every order without question."

      @lunarispledge1154 7 лет назад +13

      pbriian Ikr? Everyone's complaining about that and they don't seem to realize it's one of the few mistakes fixed from the old movie. Though I would have liked them to have scripted something like the original lines instead of them just slowly getting closer to each other before kissing, it's not as romantic as the original without them saying anything.

    • @Disneyfreak_8
      @Disneyfreak_8 7 лет назад +28

      When I saw it the first time and I saw there was no dialogue at all after the transformation, I was a little disappointed. However, I saw it a second time and instead of focusing on that I tried to focus more on the emotion of the scene, and I think that even without dialogue, the actions of both Belle and the Prince (especially when Belle looks into his eyes and reacts) is just right for the scene!

    I absolutely loved this movie. I was close to crying when Belle found out what happened to her mother and the ballroom scene, but I seriously cried during Evermore, while he was watching her leave. Gaston and Lefou were awesome, Lefou saving Mrs. Potts and helping them, and earlier when he realized Gaston was evil, the transformation, the opening scene, and do not even get me started on the songs. Emma was awesome, Be Our Guest took my breath away, and Beauty and the Beast was so nostalgic. I sang along to every single one.

    I don't get why everyone is making such a big deal about Le Fou being gay. Some parents are not allowing their kids to go see the movie because he dances with a guy for like a split second at the end.

    • @Peacelover1212
      @Peacelover1212 7 лет назад +50

      Jamie Schreindl well, some parents are sadly super homophobic. I actually like that details tho. it explains why he's so devoted to Gaston - I think its implied that he has a crush on him? And I like how his development when he realized that Gaston is insanely evil after he left Maurice in the woods tied up like that

    • @jamies.8987
      @jamies.8987 7 лет назад +28

      Peacelover1212 I totally agree. I loved his plot development and the fact that they added that scene sort of to confirm that he is gay. I just think it really sucks that some kids aren't able to see such an amazing movie because of something that I didn't think was personally an enormous detail. I'm sure most young kids wouldn't be able to tell that he was dancing with a man.

    • @lorilarson3224
      @lorilarson3224 7 лет назад +22

      I don't think it's homophobic to resist having issues of sexuality portrayed in children's movies. Personally, I don't think it's appropriate. I do think the whole moment was overblown by the media, but the moviemakers made it a big deal by talking about how excited they were about an "exclusively gay moment." I do not feel children's movies are the right platform for that kind of thing.

    I hated Beast singing after he let Belle go to her father. It was totally out of place, in animated version here is where Beast is melancholic and entropic, without any will or energy to live, let alone sing. I really liked the small bits, the original humor, and the new characters. :)

  • @yasminload63
    @yasminload63 7 лет назад +19

    I have to say I really like how they added to Gaston's character. Instead of just making him be like "belle is the prettiest and thats the only reason for us to marry" they made it so that was one reason but he liked her for also not making a fool of herself to win his affection. Something I didnt like about the movie was the stuff about her mother. It was nice that they added the story because im sure a lot of people wanted to know from the animated version what happened to her, but to me it felt really disjointed and like it was an add on rather than a part of the plot. especially the part when they go to her home in paris, it seemed very rushed and out of place.

    Also, in the original movie, while Belle is walking around the village and singing "Little Town," she's the only person in the village wearing blue. It makes her stand out and shows that she's different from everyone else. But in the 2017 version, there are a lot of other people in the town who are also wearing blue during this scene.

    Well, I can't argue with this video. I mean, as much as I enjoyed watching the 2017 remake, unlike some people. I still have to give mad love for the original 1991 version. YES!!! my thoughts exactly! if you go in comparing this film with the original of course this one is more likely to lose! the first has your childs innocence attached to it. ie you might not know the plot, whats going to happen next, the magic and fun you can convey so well with animation. in short the old film has the nostalgia factor to it! but i think this one is just as good if not better in some areas (just as its weaker in others) ^.^

    Well, for the French accent, as a French person who went to see it with French friends, we liked it just fine. Because the problem with non French actors doing a Fench accents, is that 99% of the time, we French don't understand a thing of what they're saying and have to read subtitles. So I personally think that it was a good Hollywood French accent

    You failed to mention the fact that Belle asked for a rose on her fathers travels, like in the original tale from yeeeeaaaaaarrrss ago. I adored the servants. I liked Lumiere and Cogsworth more in this version, perhaps because I never connected with them as a kid, and now they felt more mature and charming. I felt Belle and Beast's relationship wasn't built up enough to ring true for me, and the Beast's transformation along with Belle's reaction, perhaps my favorite scene in Disney animation, wasn't that strong (though it was wise to keep the original, breathtaking music.) I did love the separate transformation of the servants. Kevin Kline was lovable and adorable, loved Lefou and Gaston, and the way the castle reacted was perhaps my favorite change in the film. It made the curse and its dangers more real, and brought the fairy tale to life. Though Belle and the Beast, though very good, weren't as strong as I would have liked, I will definitely see this again.

    You forgot to mention one of the most important differences. Belle actually knew about the curse in the live action version. She still didn't know how the servants and Beast were supposed to break it, but she knew that they were put under the spell by the Enchantress and that they were all actually human beings.

    I loved all the little details, such as Lefou paying the townsfolk to sing along in "Gaston", the ballroom carvings playing along with "Beauty and the Beast", and the ex-Objects retaining a few characteristics of their transfigured state (Mrs. Potts' cracked gold makeup on her temples and lips comes to mind alongside Plumette's feathers, Cogsworth's mustache, and Lumiere's smoking wig).

      definitely agree with oc fan i think story wise it was significantly stronger than the original but where as live action has to feel real animation can have bright unrealistic colors and tends to lean on heavy movements like belle jumping and clapping since you can't do much with animated facial expressions especially considering 1991 level animation technology. the backgrounds in the animated version are breathtaking but getting the same level of color and extravagance in the live action version would've looked so fake for example the ballroom doesn't seem as nice in the live action version but I can't imagine it would've been much better if they had used gold like i think the animated version does for the walls. It would've washed out Emma Watson and they'd need a bit of shine which would be extremely distracting. Expecting live action to be like animation is like going to see a live action superhero movie and being disappointed there's no well defined lineart or panels. They by necessity have different vibes I like the new one a lot but I felt like all the plot holes in the original made it clearly for kids even when I was one. Also it was a lot harder to sympathize with the beast in the original

    Additional comments:
    CONs:
    1. Beast's Transformation scene - I found it hilarious how he turned around like the animated movie, the light shining a bit at his face; looked a tad comical.
    2. Madame Gaston scene - The shaky camera angles and sweeps turned me off a bit. They were tracking Belle and Gaston at the door and it should've looked smoother. I am guessing they shot village scenes last since it didn't require much CGI editing.
    3. Transitions - The transitions are sometimes a bit abrupt.
    4. Opening Sequence - It was a bit underwhelming but I liked the concept and how the Beast was concealed by 17th-18th century garb and make-up
    PROs
    5. Beast's "Letting Go" song - I also loved that song, the only part that brought me to (almost) tears.
    6. Gaston and Lefou - Absolutely a delight throughout the movie
    7. Belle - Although the headlines were mostly about Emma Watson, her performance was not that bad. I hated the way her eyes were in a perpetual state of surprise in the trailers (must've been the editing tho). The additional backstory was also a great touch.
    8. Belle's Father - Glad to have watched him be more than the animated movie had him.
    It was an enjoyable movie.

  • @shrutinilekani
    @shrutinilekani 7 лет назад +32

    i think if they made an "exact" remake of the 1991 movie, the live action probably wouldn't have worked the way it did.
    For eg. Lefou and Gaston are more cartoonish in the animated film, but if the same had been put in the live action-it would have looked weird, over the top and out of place.
    So i think some of the changes like in Characterization, setting or character design made sense since it was a live action film.
    the new songs were good and went with the comparatively Darker theme of the film.
    and i am glad they didnt include Human Again-its a good song, but its too long, doesnt fit in without causing a break in the narrative.(it wasnt part of the original 1991 either).Days in the sun is a lovely song, you actually feel for those inanimate objects.
    Emma's Belle isn't like Paige O'Hara's Belle(to be very frank), which works for this story. Its unfair to pitch them against each other because both characters are potrayed diffrently in each version.
    The 1991 version is still very "Disney Princess", the 2017 version is kind of "Anti-Princess",a little sadder more grounded to reality.I actually like that she is a bit more "out of place" like she doesn't fit in becomes far more obvious in this version. It enforces the fact that she and Beast both are outcasts in thier own world.
    I liked Evermore because i feel it brings the story of the Beast to a full circle.He starts of as a cruel selfish prince and when he sings evermore you actually realize how much he has changed!He has learnt to love, and holds Belles Happiness over his own and will love her even if she never returns. Its a redeeming beautiful song, and i feel brings the story together.
    The things i didnt like. Was the song Belle-its shot very diffrently from the animated version, and is more crowded and chaotic, it suits the needs of the live action film, but comes across as a little strange on the first viewing. probably because we are so used to the animated film.
    Same with Be our Guest felt a bit weird on the first time, i appreciated it more on the second veiwing(mostly because of the gorgeous easter eggs in it).
    As someone who loves the original, i quite liked the live action too. I still think its a vey good and faithful remake of the original.

    The remake is by no means bad but I still prefer the animated classic. With that said a lot of my gripes are ones I don't think many other people have? One of them being how the Beast tells Belle "then go ahead and starve!" in the animated version he puffs up and roars this phrase with his hackles raised and I found his much calmer anger in the live action version jarring.

    • @midgetwthahacksaw
      @midgetwthahacksaw 7 лет назад +4

      theBeastcub Well, there is an explanation for this. In the 91 version, the prince is turned into a beast as a child. He isn't a someone in full control of their emotions and yes, most children are petty and selfish and throw fits.
      In this version, he is turned into a beast as a young man in his late teens or early 20's. So yes, he isn't going to be as out of control emotionally. Yes, the temper still comes through and the unkind attitude is there, but it isn't like a child's.
      The Beast is a different sort of Beast in the live action.
      The 91 version portrays him with the mannerisms like a child who needs his hand held in order to read, use utensils to eat properly, and to be scolded when need be. He needed someone to help him grow.
      The live action version portrays him as a young man who lost his mother at an early age, had a father who wasn't very kind, and then used his power and influence to tax the villagers in order to fill the emptiness in his heart with material things. Therefore, when he is turned into a Beast, he is thrown into a situation where power and influence cannot "save" him. Here, he didn't need someone to help him grow up, he needed someone to see past the hurt and the wall he built up to keep himself "safe". He needed someone to see past his faults and love him.
      Both are good, but I like the live action one a bit better because it isn't done out of pity. The Beast isn't a child who needs his hand held, he is an adult who needs someone on his level. Belle gives him love in both versions and it's wonderful. I just like how it's more on equal grounds in the live action one.

    The biggest change for me in the 2017 film was Lumiere was the one who offered a better room for Belle, while in the 1991 animation, it was the beast who offered it. And in the animation, Belle cried that the beast didn't even let her say goodbye to her father. In the animation, Belle also almost touched the rose, that got the beast very angry, while in the 2017 film, she didn't uncover the rose, but the beast got so angry. The animation seems more natural.

    and the concept of the inhabitants of the castle becoming less and less human with each petal falling isn't new either, sur eit wasn't shown in the 1991 film but in the official Disney stage adaption done ever since, the characters slowly turn more and more into the objects (the most notable moment being when cogsworth grows a key in his back and the other characetrs don't know how to point it out to him).

    The change that I did not like, personally, was the missing "dialogue" in the transformation scene. In the original film, after the beast transforms to human, you can see a "confused" Belle... to reassure Belle, Beast responds, "Belle, it's me." Then Belle looks into his eyes and says, "It is you!" In the remake, only Belle speaks saying "It is you!". I don't know, I really like the original dialogue during this scene.

    I love Evermore also, it breaks my heart every time I hear it. When I first heard that the dorky Matthew Crowley (Downton Abbey) was going to be the beast I scoffed at the thought but at 23 in 1991 I also scoffed at the apparently quiet and shy Robbie Benson; I was wrong both times. I think the only quote I missed was David Ogden-Steir's line, "Flowers, chocolates, promises you don't intend to keep." I loved the recovering scenes in the bedroom, especially the care that Belle takes to check Beast's temperature. The extended use of the Enchantress was clever. I figured she was Agatha when she helped out Maurice at the tree. I also think the entire Maurice taking the wrong path was instigated by the Enchantress, she created the curse and if she didn't do something to create a chance at hope well....no story.

    I really liked the new mob song and just the pure evil in Gaston's voice and the unsureness in Lefou's voice

    I haven't seen the original version yet, but in French at some point (when he's fighting Gaston), we got a beautiful "I am not a beast" from the Prince. I thought it was a very clever addition, showing that even if everybody calls him Beast, he still feels human inside.
    One of the things I didn't like is actually something they left the same way : he still doesn't say his name! Like, come on, all the fans know your real name is Adam, so just say it and make it completely canon at last! They had many shots at that, when they're talking alone in the library or the garden, and yet she still doesn't ask his name. Curious as Belle is, it's a big plothole for her not to search at least who he is or for him not to want to tell her his real name ToT
