    Disney’s “Beauty and the Beast” is a live-action re-telling of the studio’s animated classic which refashions the classic characters from the tale as old as time for a contemporary audience, staying true to the original music while updating the score with several new songs. “Beauty and the Beast” is the fantastic journey of Belle, a bright, beautiful and independent young woman who is taken prisoner by a beast in his castle. Despite her fears, she befriends the castle’s enchanted staff and learns to look beyond the Beast’s hideous exterior and realize the kind heart and soul of the true Prince within. The film stars: Emma Watson as Belle; Dan Stevens as the Beast; Luke Evans as Gaston, the handsome, but shallow villager who woos Belle; Oscar® winner Kevin Kline as Maurice, Belle’s eccentric, but lovable father; Josh Gad as Lefou, Gaston’s long-suffering aide-de-camp; Golden Globe® nominee Ewan McGregor as Lumiere, the candelabra; Oscar nominee Stanley Tucci as Maestro Cadenza, the harpsichord; Gugu Mbatha-Raw as Plumette, the feather duster; six-time Tony Award® winner Audra McDonald as Madame Garderobe, the wardrobe; Oscar nominee Ian McKellen as Cogsworth, the mantel clock; and two-time Academy Award® winner Emma Thompson as the teapot, Mrs. Potts.
    Directed by Oscar® winner Bill Condon from a screenplay by TBD based on the 1991 animated film, the film is produced by Mandeville Films’ David Hoberman and Todd Lieberman with eight-time Oscar-winning composer Alan Menken, who won two Academy Awards® (Best Original Score and Best Song) for the 1991 animated film, providing the score, which will include new recordings of the original songs written by Menken and Howard Ashman, as well as several new songs written by Menken and three-time Oscar winner Tim Rice.

    I loved when, after Belle questions life imprisonment for a single rose, the beast replies, "I recieved eternal damnation for one." It really puts some light on the unfairness of the curse.

      TheQuirksOfBeingMe Same! Also, I'm not sure they mentioned it in the 1991 version, but they did explain in this new one why everyone else in the castle got cursed as well. I always thought it was unfair to do that to the servants, but one of them says it's because they watched the prince become egoistic and did nothing. (sorry if there's any mistake, english is my second language)

      @@Ana-xt6ze yea it wasn't explained in the animated version but that's one the things that I like about the live action version, the writers thought like a bunch of adults who watched the animated movie and would try to find stuff to complain about

    At the garden, when Belle asked Beast what was he reading, and then the Beast said "Nothing.." and looked embarassed about it, Belle knew that he was reading Guinevere and Lancelot. The reason why he's embarassed by it, is because Lancelot was Dan Stevens' previous role in Night At The Museum 3 : Secret of The Tomb. Yay, I found another easter egg!

    I like the return to the original French story by way of Maurice taking a rose for Belle. I was obsessed with Beauty & the Beast as a kid and found a video with a few different versions of the story, and have always thought that Maurice taking the rose without permission after being shown such magical hospitality was a better reason for the Beast to get mad and take Maurice prisoner than the enchanted servants showing him hospitality. It's kind of like stepping on your host's toes.

    • @janella.9997

      Selena Fowler in the original book, Beauty had a lot of siblings. Her sisters wanted material things while she only wanted a rose. When Maurice got to the mansion, he checked all the rooms, slept in the hearth, and was given meals. He then decided that since his host didn't show himself, that he would keep the mansion for his family. When he came upon the garden, he took a rose and just as the Beast appeared, he blamed Belle for it. The Beast decided then that as punishment for taking advantage of his host and stealing something from him, that Maurice bring one of his daughters in exchange of his life. It was fun that they incorporated the part where Beast kept calling him a common thief because of a single rose.

    • @anelesrelwof
      @anelesrelwof 7 лет назад

      O.O Wow! So, in the shows that I watched, Beauty had two sisters. One wanted fine dresses, the other wanted beautiful jewelry. True to the original, Beauty only wanted a rose.
      However, Maurice deciding to keep the mansion for himself, I never knew about! Nor have I ever heard that the Beast wanted one of Maurice's daughters in return for the rose that Maurice stole. That's wild. I would really like to read the original book!

    • @janella.9997
      @janella.9997 7 лет назад +1

      Selena Fowler yeah, the one written by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villenueve. (I think they named the town Villenueve in the live action as a tribute) That version was really different from the others. Belle had eleven siblings if I remember correctly, six brothers and five sisters.

    • @Compucles
      @Compucles 7 лет назад +4

      Yeah, I agree. Besides, Belle was just as guilty of trespassing as her father was, so shouldn't the Beast have locked up both of them rather than letting Belle offer a prisoner exchange?

      I think they said that was one way of keeping the time period real, because in the original, when the line "AFter all, miss, this is France" the plates are stacked like the Eiffel Tower, which didn't exist until 1889. However the guillotine was used in the time of this film.

    My favourite easter egg was the use of the instrumental (and extended) version of 'Home', the song that Belle sings in the stage production, when she is introduced to her new home, the suite. The musical elements are used again when she is getting ready for the dance in the suite.
    I had really hoped that they were going to use 'Home,' 'If I Can't Love Her,' and 'Human Again' in this version of the movie.

    I noticed that during the "Be our Guest" scene, there was a box at the end of the table that looked relatively similar to the castle in Aladdin. Also, when you showed some of the music boxes in this video, you are able to see a blue elephant with a castle in top of it. Again, this castle looks very similar to the castle used in Aladdin. Maybe this is a hint to Disney's next live action movie????

    1) there is a line during "Days in the Sun" where Belle says that she is sensing a 'change in me' which is a nod to the song that Belle sings in the Broadway Musical called "A Change In Me"
    2) when Belle first enters her bedroom in the castle at the beginning of the movie, the score for "Is This Home?" from the Broadway Musical is played which is the song Belle sings when she first gets to the castle and is captivated

    At the end of the movie, LeFou says to Mrs Potts "Hello There". Josh Gad is a super big fan of Star Wars, in fact he also has presented one of the panel (concretely the Last Jedi one). Well one of the most known lines of Obi-Wan Kenobi in Star Wars is that one, Hello There with his characteristic entonation. That could be just a coincidence but... it becomes probable because Ewan McGregor, who plays Lumiere in this movie, also plays Obi-Wan. It's just one thing I realized so... if you're a star wars fan then... i think you'll agree with me or at least... you would like it to be real. For me it is an easter egg

    I absolutely loved the new live action film. I loved the way how they added more detail into the story that fans like me have been wondering about since seeing the animated film. I love the fact that how they've decided to keep original lyrics written by the late Howard Ashman, it was perfect timing the way how they put it all together. I also loved the way how they added in those hidden easter eggs according to the Broadway show, the animated film, the original story, and also the characters the actors played in the past. They've definitely corrected some parts from the animated film, like how in the original story one of the things was before Maurice went to the fair to introduce and show his latest inventions he asks his children (I'm pretty sure Belle has 3 older sisters and 2 older brothers although the siblings weren't in the live action film however though Belle is one of the main characters so no complaints there) what they him to bring for them from the fair. Belle asks for a simple rose where everyone else asks for something more expensive. I don't know if everyone else notices how much a rose is one of the important pieces in the story and the film. For example The rose the enchantress left for the Beast and each petal represents the days that goes by like an hour glass for the Beast to fall in love and someone else to live him in return, when Belle and the Beast are in Paris in the windmill where Belle was born she picks up the rattle in her old cradle and if you notice the head piece is a rose, and again in the original story Belle asks her father to bring her back a rose from the fair. I love the way how the Disney company creates the story in their own way more kid friendly. a lot of the original tales don't actually end as well but it has a happy ending in a different way. I think that this was the best live action film they've made. I definitely want to see it again.
    Sorry I write too much. When it comes to things like this I can't help it.

    When I a girl I loved going to musicals with my MOM! And when Belle was on the Hill singing it took me back to The Sound of Music and the opening scene with Julie Andrews ... it gave me chills!!
    And Mom would often reminisce about the old Hollywood musicals with the performers creating kaleidoscopes with song and dance .... and in this movie, the scene when Belle had her first dinner in the dining room, took me back to watching those old musicals with my dear MOM!! :-)

    1 Easter egg I noticed ,was that there was another Harry Potter reference in the scene where the character Agatha (the enchantress ) saves Maurice(Belle's father ) and brings him back to her place of healing in the woods, there is a white owl watching over the area with kind eyes.The white owl is a reference to Harry Potter's beloved white pet owl Hedwig!
    The second Easter egg I notice was in one of the key scenes of Belle and the Beast between their romantic slow montage of them falling inlove .In this new movie Belle finds the Beast reading a book outside in the winter garden . She asks him "what are you reading?"He replied" I am reading King Arthur. "She says "you mean a romance between Guinevere and Lancelot?"He embarrassed replied "Knights of the Roundtable ,fighting,and stuff."
    The fact that the book the Beast was reading had been about King Arthur and Lancelot I realized it was a reference to the actor Dan Stevens who plays the Beast,as he played Lancelot in Night at the Museum 3.

    As a former English literature major, I got the Shakespeare references. In both the live action and cartoon versions, in the song "Kill the Beast" (I think that's the name), "Screw your courage to the sticking place" is a direct quote from Macbeth. Also, I agree with Beast that there's much better than Romeo and Juliet.

    I remember my mom said she loves all these remakes because it reminds her on how much I used to watch all the old films when I was little.
    She has always said that I was like belle.
    She gave me examples from back then.
    “You are too kind to everyone, you have a golden heart for everyone. You always watch the same movie over and over again. And sometimes I see you read a bit of a book that’s a grade older then for yours.”
    And for the preset
    “I saw that you started to love reading harder and harder books and your heart has become even more golden then before...what I mean by hat is, anytime you have a hard time or when you were blamed for the wrong thing...you’re heart and brain became even more stronger but your strong sadness as grew stronger every year. Yet,....you are getting stronger everyday now..” I’m so happy she’s my mom because I always love seeing her smile..one time I gave 10 dollars to a homeless person (yes I’m 13 I’m saving my money now) she almost shed a tear because of that...she’s so pure and it hurts me to see she has taken all the bullets from me.
    I always say we can maybe hang out together and we always love doing that.
    We always say
    “Togthers?” And I always say “forever”

    Loved the new film, the perfect addition to the 1991 classic!

    I also thought that Kevin Kline's Maurice singing "it is love we must hold onto" during How Does A Moment Last Forever is a reference to his character on Bob's Burgers and how protective he is of his little brother and wants him to be as happy as he can make him.

    During the scene when Belle first enters into her newly assigned bedroom, the background music played three lines of music from the Beauty and the Beast Broadway 'Home', which was not included into the movie. When I first heard that, I freaked because it was such a nice tidbit for us musical fans :)

    I liked that they put Belle's mother's backstory in it
