    He was more sympathetic on one occasion.
    During the Axis storyline, he had his personality inverted temporarily towards the end. He actually, earnestly had asked Captain America to forgive him, even calling him, "Steve".
    I guess he seemed so sympathetic because with his rage and hatred taken from him, he was just a tired old man who temporarily wanted to redeem himself in a small way.

    • @goblintributemaker2539
      @goblintributemaker2539 5 лет назад +7

      That was mainly because all the villains of the story were turned good and reverted back to their old selves by the end including Skull. I’d also like to point out that that was a clone of Red Skull and not really the genuine article.

    You are absolutely right Mr Rogues. Red Skull does have a unique and special relationship with Captain America. The same type of relationship that Batman and the Joker have. But the difference is that Joker is a mass murdering clown just to satisfy his sense of humour, Red Skull has the desire to remake the world under Hydra's rule at the cost of people's lives. Joker(psychopath) Red Skull (megalomaniac). By the way, I actually had a feeling you would do the top 5 stories. Nice job.

    My Top 5 Red Skull Stories:
    5. The 1969 Cosmic Cube storyline that introduced the Falcon
    4. The storyline from the 1980s where Arnim Zola had cloned the Red Skull a body that looked exactly like Steve Rogers and Rogers went back to being Captain America after his stint as the Captain. (I was disappointed when the Skull got dust in his face and he physically became the Red Skull again.)
    3. The original Cosmic Cube story from Tales of Suspense
    2. Operation: Rebirth (if for no other reason that Waid and Garney were such a breath of fresh air after Rik Levins' artwork)
    1. "Red Dust" by Geoff Johns and Olivier Coipel (from The Avengers). I think I prefer the Red Skull as a power broker manipulating from behind the scenes. I also liked the distrust between Iron Man and the Black Panther.

    Hey, I was wondering if any of you guys could help with this. When I was a little kid, I once found this Marvel history book for kids. It's mostly accurate, but during the early history of the Avengers, it talks about some big team up between Dr Doom, Loki, Magneto and Red Skull where they called themselves "The Movers", and did battle with the Avengers. I know they collaborated with The Mandarin, The Wizard and The Kingpin during Acts of Vengeance where, according to Comic Vine, they went by the name "Prime Movers", but this supposedly takes place long before that. As far as I'm aware, this story doesn't exist and no team has ever called themselves "The Movers". Let me know if I'm wrong about this.

    Two things about the Red Skull:
    The dust of Death used in the Englehart story actually first appeared way back in the Skull's third appearance in Captain America Comics #7 in autumn 1941. It was used only sparingly.
    The Red Skull story in your second spot was ultimately the reason Mark Waid left the title. The editorial at Marvel at the time thought the story of the fake imaginary world and the depiction of the Skull's origin to be too hardcore and had the script severely edited, which annoyed Waid. The unedited version of the script is floating around online if you're curious.

    I wrote up a comment earlier, and apparently it didn't submit. Huh. Well, time to retype...
    My Top four are the same as your top four. HOWEVER, I'd actually name Magneto vs. Red Skull as my second favorite, with Red Glare at third, and Operation Rebirth at fourth place. (The Death of Red Skull is undeniably his greatest outing.) I haven't read your fifth place choice, but - presuming we're going with "mainstream" stories only, as usual - I'd give my fifth place to Captain America: Reborn.
    I am glad you love Red Skull so much; I sometimes feel that, of all the Marvel "Big Bads," he's the least appreciated. I should really see about doing a list of My Favorite Portrayals of Red Skull sometime...but the problem is, when it comes to other media, I like a lot of his portrayals more or less the same. :P

    • @mr.rogues4145
      @mr.rogues4145  5 лет назад

      Yeah, I definately agree that Red Skull appears to be underappreciated; this video aint getting near enough as many views as I assumed it would get, haha... it's not doing BAD, but I had so much higher hopes for it.
      Anyway, as for other media, I can't say I'm that well versed with the character; at the top of my head I can only remember the Hugo Weaving movie. I thought Skull was far too tame in that movie btw. You didn't get the feeling he was a nazi at all in that movie, just another generic super villain; HOWEVER I haven't seen the film since it came out, so my memory might be incorrect. What are your thoughts on that portrayal?

    • @goblintributemaker2539
      @goblintributemaker2539 5 лет назад +1

      I feel like Red Skull is underappreciated precisely because he doesn't really have any truly awesome portrayals in media like the other big Marvel villains such as Magneto, Doctor Doom, Green Goblin, and Kingpin do. Best version of him is probably the one in the Avengers EMH cartoon and the version in the Avengers Assemble cartoon is pretty decent too. Then of course there's the movie version which I personally enjoy but I completely agree that he was far too tame. It was stupid for the MCU to make him more kid-friendly by making it so that he wasn't really a Nazi and just another supervillain who wanted to take over the world. And these three versions of him that I mentioned completely pale in comparison to the comics version. The problem seems to be that other media always makes him too tame. They always associate him with Hydra instead of the Nazis for some reason and they never make him genocidal. This is probably why people think he's a generic villain which is a shame.

    • @tayojones9460
      @tayojones9460 5 лет назад +1

      The reason for the tame versions of skull outside of media is because the people adapting him do not want children to associate him with Nazis. Disney especially does not want to look like they are promoting a Nazi as a supervillain. I find this very ironic, especially considering early Disney animation depicted Donald working in a Nazi weapons factory. That said, it is rather annoying that skull has to be nurtured to appeal to the bloody mainstream. If they wanted to, they could have made Skull as dark as his comic book version, without mentioning Hitler at all. Skull grew out of the Nazi mone anyway and was still a monster.
      Only version of skull outside of comics thst comes close to the comics is The version from EMH. His design, his voice (Thank You Steven Blum) and his actions were pure evil.
      Sadly, with Disney catering to bloody gender politics and "family friendly" entertainment, we may not see a truly dark portrayal of the Skull anytime soon.

    • @goblintributemaker2539
      @goblintributemaker2539 5 лет назад +1

      @@tayojones9460 That's actually another aspect of the comics version of Skull I love, the fact that he was able to adapt to modern times and eventually even use capitalism as his weapon instead of Nazism. Yes, the Avengers EMH version of him was pretty great and Steve Blum gave an epic performance as him but I felt that he was really underused in the show. Plus, even that version of him was associated with Hydra instead of the Nazis. I really hate it how now almost every Captain America villain ever is a member of Hydra whether it be Red Skull, Baron Zemo, Armin Zola, or Crossbones. It should really just be Madame Viper and Baron Strucker. And yes thanks to Disney there's no way we'll get a completely genocidal Red Skull for a long time. Although I will say I actually rather like Avengers Assemble's version of Skull especially since they gave him such a huge role in the show's first season. That was something I would never expect Disney to do.

    I'm surprised there aren't more Nazi themed villains in comics. There's skull and Kronen from Hellboy as far as I know. Using real world evil, if done right can magnify the terror and dread those ideologies bring and make the hero more heroic in return. Though again it does take more effort than a wholly original villain considering the context but still.

    Ya can't go wrong with Nazis if your looking for a bastard type villain.
    Do a video on the Elementals from Comico. I used to have a couple of issues of them and the Justice Machine, I thought they'd be good for forgotten heroes.

    Mr rogues I have a patient file, what do you think?
    Patient #51719
    Real name Jarvis Tech also called the Wizard of OZ by the staff. By the way anyone who calls him that shall be punished because based on examination it would seem the more often you refer to him as The Wizard of OZ his obsession seems to grow more vastly. In all honesty he is the definition of ludicrous and see no reason why he should be released, poor fella.
    Once upon a time Jarvis was the child of two drunk parents who would constantly leave him confined in a torture room hidden in Jarvis’ room. This horror had started when he was just a newborn. He would spend sleepless nights in the room and the only thing that made him happy were books, this liking for the books had been the only thing he loved and cared for in his entire childhood. He grabbed hold of every book he could find recovers from the very few minutes he had to seeing the streets and library. All the books seem to bore him except for “The Wizard of Oz”. He was a talented engineer, in fact it ran through the whole family, hence the name of the family.
    He vowed to one day run away by using his wits and talents. The one thing that encouraged him to follow this goal was “The Wizard of Oz”. The book was more than a mere book to the boy in fact it was his moral compass. By the age of fifteen he completed a device made from parts he scavenged ever since he was a boy. The device was a bomb, he planned to light it in his parents room, which would kill them. The reason for this rather than reporting to the police cause he never knew the existence of authority and believed it to be a thing of fiction and instead of running away without the murder was because he believed his parents to be powerful demons and could not escape their reach.
    On that faithful night the plan fell into place. The house specifically his parents room was engulfed in flames killing the two. He ran off hoping to find an “Emerald City” were he could live happily in. As the years rolled by Years after he fled he became more aware of the world he lived in and even learned how smell, write, and etc. He lived in a portable toilet located in a junkyard. Despite that he seemed to believe it to be an “Emerald City”. He had a job as an electrical worker though not a successful one.
    One day as he was returning home he saw a kid in the same position he was in as a child. He stalked the boy and his family seeing them just as he viewed his parental units, pure evil demons who enjoyed torture. He broke into the house to liberate the child, the mother found the skinny man dressed in a dark green coat with a green top hat, a worn out blue T-shirt, rugged pants, and a green glowing mask on his face. He was getting the child out of the torture room and taking him away. A fight broke out, Jarvis didn’t know how to fight but he knew how to kill, he took a belt and tied it around her neck. He attached it to the wall and pushed out of the window causing her to be hanged. The boy he was rescuing smiled in pure happiness seeing his own mother finally meet her end. He took the boy to his new home, he forged it with the scraps of metal and broken cars. He asked the boy his name but he didn’t know it, likely due to the trauma his mother put him through. He saw the “Scarecrow” in him and therefore made him his partner to free children from abusive parents no matter who gets killed.
    Jarvis has absolutely no idea how precious life is and because of this kills without a second thought. Though he makes an exception for his army of deranged children dressed up like the characters from the wizard of Oz. If only his parents weren’t so cruel to him he might have used his abilities for the greater good. Nonetheless he is very homicidal and takes great pleasure in it, one time he killed one hundreds and eighty people in one night. What he does isn’t for mere revenge its just to make sure that no child will have to face the same piece of hell he experienced at a very young age. Though his goal is very noble his methods are very gory and he doesn’t seem to think they’re wrong.
