    Am reading Punisher: Year One. Got to the panel where the mob boss in Miami is talking to his little confidant guy about how Frank Castle is causing trouble up in New York. Boss says "And I know just the man for the job." This notification pops up on the top of my screen. That lined up just too perfectly and I had to watch.

    Creating villains for The Punisher is admittedly always a writing challenge due to the character's entire premise being that he kills his enemies. A lot of the time it's either they bring in an already established villain from another character's rogues gallery like Bullseye, Kingpin, Bushwacker, The Hood, Daken and even Electro that one time who he most likely won't be allowed to kill because the villain is still needed for other characters' stories, or you get a generic mobster made for that one story who will therefore die in that story. It's rare they put too much effort into a Punisher villain because they're going to have to kill them off and most likely not get to use them again. Of course if he doesn't kill them, that goes against the whole point of the character. Sometimes it works. The Russian, while popular among Punisher fans, lasted about as long as he needed to. Same goes for Barracuda. But then there's cases like Hitman, an old war buddy of Frank's who wound up fighting FOR crime instead of against it. Great potential there. Gets killed in his debut story. Heck, Hitman was considered so inconsequential to the Punisher's stories, he's technically classified as a Spider-Man villain now.

    It's a shame that DC and Marvel don't do more this crossovers anymore, because I think that the Punisher could work really well in a crossover with Jason Todd, the Red Hood (with the two of them trying to stop a gang war between Jigsaw and Two Face).

    I think the Netflix series did do a good job with Russo's depiction and intertwining his origin with Frank Castle himself. It was subversive but I'd be lying if I wasn't a little disappointed with how he turned out in his run as Jigsaw. They played him pretty sympathetic which was cool but kinda underwhelming. Again, subverting expectations but I kinda wanted to see him return to being the sick and twisted crime lord he's know for being. But I suppose I got that in Punisher Warzone. Where Punisher is more accurate to how he is in the comic books.

  • @Cobra_125
    @Cobra_125 5 лет назад +12

    I've always liked Jigsaw since seeing him in Punisher Warzone. It's crazy how Punisher is so well-known while his villain is so obscure (kinda reminds me of Wolverine).
    I feel like the Netflix show made him too emotional and sympathetic. Jigsaw was intended to be the one pure evil villain that Punisher was just never able to really finish off. After all, he was a mobster before his scars originally. That, and being former friends with Punisher is just unnecessary. (Although that relationship with his son in the #1 comic sounds fantastic)
    I find it funny tho, that everything Netflix did with Billy (mental deterioration, an equal to the hero, very sympathetic and antihero-style, and a true mastermind) are all what I'd like to see be done with Harvey.

    Hi Rogues! Thanks a lot for the suggestions, I hadn't read the first 3 issues. I'm mainly a DC fanboy, so I don't really have time to dive deep in Marvel as well...
    But I have read "In the Blood" and it's indeed a story you can't miss for Jigsaw... (I have a soft spot for Rampage, so it was nice to see him again as well).
    In the latest Punisher run (that started last year) which has just ended last month (the next one will be by Garth Ennis, so I'm pretty excited), I thought that Jigsaw was pretty funny, and made quite a lot of appearances, but he was still 100% a henchman for Baron Zemo. And not really a huge threat...
    Sadly the only other stories I have read with Billy are stuff like "Circle of Blood", (the run that starts with Frank in prison), in which he is the snivelling cowardly right hand man for the actual prison boss...
    Thank you for your service Monsieur Rogues

      @@mr.rogues4145 Nice one! In my case, I think the Superman villains, who could be use not just in a movie, but in a trilogy, are these:
      First Movie - Brainiac
      Second Movie - Bizarro and Metallo
      Third Movie - Toyman
      While I'm against using Zod again, in the case of Luthor, I think he could play a role in each movie: In the first movie he could be establish as this corrupt business man who hates superman, but would put his hate aside to help Superman save the world from Brainiac (showcasing that, despite their rivalry, Luthor cares for humanity); In the second movie he could be more like a "doctor frankenstein" responsible for the creation of Bizarro and later Metallo; and finally in the third movie, could be a adaptation of "There is a Happy Land Far Far Away" in which the Toyman kidnaps the children of Lexcorp CEOs, in a scheme to take revenge on Luthor for ruinning his life in the past, as well teach the kids parents a lesson for being so
      negligents, for spending more time in the work rather than playing with their children.

    • @alexandrefrauches132
      @alexandrefrauches132 5 лет назад

      @@tayojones9460 That’s also a good idea. I decided to go with Brainiac in the first movie in favor of doing something unique with the Superman’s trilogy. Instead of following the formula of “start the trilogy with a small villain and than go with a bigger one for the sequel”, in the case of Superman, I thought would be more interesting if he already started with a powerfull villain like Brainiac in the first movie, with the tone been more light-hearted and fun, but in the sequels, the tone starts to become more serious, with Superman facing off against threats that challenge not just his powers but also his values and his ethical code, meeting the villains, like Bizarro and Toyman, that are more sympathic antagonists, whose actions are results of the actions of even worse people, like Lex Luthor. That would lead Superman to learn that evil not always comes from a alien invader or a giant monster, but something that can comes from the inner darkness of a person's heart, and from that he grows both as hero and person, who not only protects people but also inspire them (like the case of Bizarro and Toyman) to become better people as well.
      Plus this would be a great reference to the Superman comics and how they change over the years, going from the wacky and campy tone of Silver Age to the more mature and complex tone Bronze Age and the comics that followed it.
