The Penguin is without question a top-tier Batman villain and I pity any fan who cant see that. Its unfortunate that DC doesnt really seem to know what to do with the character these days and really just keep him around as a novelty. Gotham may have been far from a perfect show but it at least gave ol Pengy his due. The next list sounds amazing, I cant wait.
I'm glad he's going to appear in the Matt Reeve's The Batman movie. To me, he and the Riddler are in the top 3 of the most iconic Batman villains. So it's exciting that they are both going to be in the movie, because they haven't been in a major Batman movie since the 90s and I think they have great potential.
I don't need your pity. It's called "opinion." To me, The Penguins is just mostly boring. He's just another mobster...but with a gimmick. He's one of the few comic characters where I actually prefer adaptations over the source. Gimme Burton's take and Gotham's take over most of the comics any day.
Penguin has a lot of potential because I always felt that Batman and Penguin should be like a parallel to Eliot Ness and Al Capone from the Untouchables but thanks for the more obscured penguin stories 👍🏻
My personal favorite is "Snow and Ice" from Detective Comics 610-611. It gives me one of my favorite lines: "Where's the thrill in committing the perfect crime if nobody knows it was you?"
Ah good to hear from you again! And good to hear about old Pengy, for the largest mobster in Gotham you'd think people would show him some damn respect
I love the penguin because of how grounded of a villain he is, there is literally nothing supernatural or out of this world about him, there is literally cobblepots out there in real life, and yet he has so much power in Gotham
I love the Penguin, thank you Rogues! It might sound crazy but I think that the Penguin is truly an underrated rogue, people believe that his gimmick is just money, when he is the gentleman, stylish and genius criminal of Gotham and also uses animals to fight Batman

Ah the penguin... Are you a mind reader Mr. Rouges because you just made two top ten stories of my favorite and second favorite Batman Villains. 1. Riddler 2. Penguin Great video
Penguin is really a very underrated Batman villain. In one of my Batman movie pitch (one of the versions), the Penguin would be introduce as supporting character, a crime boss who Batman usually visits to obtain information about some crime, but as the mystery is developt, Penguin would be reveal as the main villain, responsible for the events in the story (he would even break the fourth wall, saying that nobody suspected him because everyone keeps underestimating him, thinking that he is just a joke compare to the other villains like riddler or two face).
I like your concept for Penguin, but here’s a good one for a future series: the Penguin would be one of two secondary antagonists (along with TwoFace) and would be responsible for some events of season 1 (like the Falcone-Maroni gang war), along with Joker and TwoFace.
@@mikephelps5454 That would be awesome, taking some inspirations from stories like Long Hallowen and exploring the mobsters of gotham, although the one responsible for falcone-maroni gang war should be Two Face instead, with Harvey manipulating both sides, wanting for the mobsters to kill each other so he can create a "better Gotham", a gotham free from the corruption and the evil of criminals like Maroni and Falcone. The penguin could be play a role in this plot, wanting to take advantage of the war so he can take Falcone and Maroni's place as the boss of Gotham's underworld.
@@alexandrefrauches132 yeah, and in the end Penguin succeeds in taking Falcone and Maroni’s place as the boss of Gotham’s underworld (along with Black Mask), with Black Mask taking control of the Falcone crime family (the new name would be the Sionis crime family) and have many of Falcone’s dealings, while Penguin takes control of the Maroni crime family (renamed the Cobblepot crime family), taking over the arms dealings, the black markets, and weapons shops.

Penguin has real history & can be a genuinely effective character when written well. Thanks for yet another terrific review!
I enjoy your work, man. I like Batman a lot, but my only exposure to him and his villains are the films and Arkham games. These videos are teaching me about stories I’d never know about otherwise. Keep it up dude!
Nice video Mr Rouge, if you don’t mind I have some ideas top 5 best Calendar Man stories, he’s not the best villain but has some good stories; also if the under rated rouges series returns, Sportsmaster, he’s a really cool idea villain, but is treated like a joke (especially new 52) but has been shown some respect in some comics and a lot in tv
Amazing collection, Rogues. Good taste. I like when Penguin stories feature classic literature quotes. He should be a gentleman of culture as well as crime. That's why the thug Penguin from the Arkham games never sat TOO well with me, as cool as he was as an alternate Pengy.
I think some writers forget that one of the main parts of Penguin's character is that he uses the fact that he's fat and the fact that he looks sort of like the bird he names himself after to make people underestimate him.
In my Batman Movie ideas, Penguin is actually fairly prominent. He is one of the only villains that I gave a solo movie, along with Two-Face, Poison Ivy, and Clayface.
@@RadinV1 The primary villain, at first would be Killer Croc, who in this version would be the killer of Dick Grayson's parents. My pitch for a Batman movie would also be a Robin origin story, with the plot centering around the mystery of who was responsible for the Flying Grayson's death. At first it would seems that the villain is Killer Croc (who worked for the circus), however in the end it would be revealed that he was hired by Penguin to do this.
Penguin is a great villain but sadly overlooked and underappreciated by most modern fans. Personally I miss the classic version. I know it won't appeal to mainstream audiences, but I prefer that version over the boring mob boss version we see these days. I mean, what is wrong with a master criminal who pulls off Audacious crimes with trick umbrellas? If anyone likes mob Penguin that is fine, but I still miss the master theif version. Grat video Rogues, looking forward to Dent's video
Not Hatter. Have you seen Rogues’ top 5 Hatter stories video? The original Hatter has ONE great story. At the time, it was the hardest video to be had to make. There are a few good Hatter comics, but I seriously doubt it. Scarecrow, is almost guaranteed to get a top 10 video, since Crane is in his top 3 Batman villains, and he’s talked about at least 10 good or great Scarecrow comics in the past, which are potential contenders for the list. Crane might be after Harvey, but we’ll see.
The only two here not on my own list are his No Man's Land appearances and "Penguin on Parole." In the case of the former, I couldn't decide on just one story from that arc to include, and I didn't like the thought of including the entire thing. As for the latter...this is my first time hearing about it, so maybe my own list is going to have to change. XD
Great video. And it looks like Ozzie is dressed up for Halloween. How many of these have I read? Um... none, sadly. I’ve read very few Penguin stories. But I definitely intend to read them all. I’m just REALLY limited on time right now. F&$%ing responsibilities! I’ve wanted to read No Man’s Land for like three years now, basically since I discovered your channel in early 2017, but it’s really damn long and it has a lot of comics and build-up I have to track down. But it will happen, damn it! Great list. And I can tell that the Top 22 Best Two-Face is going to be something worth celebrating. In fact, here’s what each top 10 list will look like: Two-Face: You praising him for hours (which I will gladly listen to). Scarecrow: You praising the character but complaining about how writers waste him. Joker: You will not make that list. You will instead hunt down and shoot everyone who requests the video. Poison Ivy: You’ll praise her, but somehow I won’t remember it. Seriously, I somehow forget almost anything with her in it. Mad Hatter: Never going to happen. Killer Croc: You praising the character. Harley Quinn: Probably won’t happen, but if it does, you’ll do what you did in you top 20 Batman villains video, and both praise and complain about her and her overexposure. Mr. Freeze: Never going to happen. Clayface: You praising Preston Payne. Oh, and occasionally you’ll probably mention another Clayface. Okay, I could go on, but I’ll stop here.
“Gotham” may not have had a comic book accurate looking Penguin, at least until the ten year time jump, but they made him a threat; they managed to make the character threatening, emotionally vulnerable, horrifying on some occasions (he ate his step siblings and step mother), a master manipulator, and a schemer who’s always planning his next move. “Gotham” definitely put the Penguin up on my ranking for Batman villains. Hopefully “The Batman” does him justice.
Waaak A fine list. Of course I know of the silver age comics, but don't own them. As for the modern stories I haven't heard of some of them But I do own the issue with hos return to villiany. As I recall in those issues he was also annoyed with Black Mask . Or I'm confusing two storylines
Has penguin ever acted as safe cracker in a heist comic, he could certainly do that with his technical knowledge he has to make his trick umbrellas, is he ever in the suicide squad?
Will you ever review Batman Beyond episodes? I especially want to hear your opinion of the Mr. Freeze episode. It provides even deeper characterization of the TAS Freeze, and it was one of my favorite Batman Beyond episodes and my current favorite Mr. Freeze story.
03:55 Is this the start of The Iceberg Longue and Cobblepot going into organized crime? 10:59 Is this also part of his transition since, for him, running the Iceberg Lounge and being a mob boss was "more fun" than just gaming the stock market? 14:25 And this is where the transition completes itself?
@@samuelwilliams1619 My 3rd favourite villain next to Joker and Two Face. Harvey and Oswald should be used more than Joker though because as much of a fan of him as I am the overuse is a bit above a joke pardon the pun.
I wouldn't mind the "Kingpin" angle if they actually made him as such instead of giving that role to Black Mask while making the Penguin a boring casino owner.
Almost all of the best Penguin's comics are in the modern era. I think that Penguin is a character they didn't really know how to make edgy/threatening in the old times
I was In a comic shop today and I was looking at the shelves and I saw the three jokers storyline with its four books and I though when’s the last time penguin got one of those big storylines? I mean riddler, two face, and scarecrow get that once in a couple years but where’s penguin’s big 3 book arc?
He doesn’t get four books he doesn’t get three he doesn’t get anything. I mean why is joker always the one to get these big storylines. I mean other villains get them but joker gets the most. I love the joker but it feels like he’s the go to Batman villain while throwing the rest either of to the side waiting for their turn or just hurling them into the trash.
Now here's a request you thought you'd never see, you might think I might need to be put Arkham Asylum, but I am 100% sane. Mr. Rogues, I would like you to do a video on villains from the show "Miraculous Ladybug".

Poison Ivy Didn’t include Harley Quinn or Catwoman because they’re more antiheroes/heroes than villains these days. Didn’t include Kite Man because he’s too nice to be a villain, at the end of “City of Bane” arc he and Batman were hanging out together in a bar.

If I'm going to read just one JOKER story what should I make it ? If I'm going to read just one Catwoman story what should I make it ?
The Penguin is my least favorite of Batman's big rogues. I've always found him to be boring as shit. I guess that's why I love Burton's take so much. It still keeps Penguin as a crime boss, retaining that aspect of the source material - but the added circus freak aspect of the character and tragedy underlying him makes for a far more compelling figure than what I usually see in the comics or cartoons. I also love Gotham's take on the character.
The problem with Burtons take is that he's essentially pure evil which just isn't interesting. The Penguin is also supposed to be the most brilliant criminal mind in Gotham city and in that movie most of his being the villain is just him being duped by Christopher Walken.

Would you consider doing a top 10 stories video for Ra's Al Ghul and Hugo Strange?
i feel like on earth 3, oswald cobblepot would be the one making contingency plans
Love your Gotham rogue's story videos you have a good modering voice explaining these classic characters keep flying high sir Wah Wah Wah !!!🎩🐧🐧🐧🌂
awesome vid
Yes.
Please do a top 10 comic movie villains
I d k why but i Just want to See pengi Happy
Waaak A fine list. Of course I know of the silver age comics, but don't own them. As for the modern stories I haven't heard of some of them But I do own the issue with hos return to villiany. As I recall in those issues he was also annoyed with Black Mask . Or I'm confusing two storylines
Has penguin ever acted as safe cracker in a heist comic, he could certainly do that with his technical knowledge he has to make his trick umbrellas, is he ever in the suicide squad?
i cant see penguin the same way after watching your videos.
I was finishing online classes when I saw the notification, so I went "fuck math"
Oswald Chesterfield Cobblepot deserves more respect!
@@samuelwilliams1619 My 3rd favourite villain next to Joker and Two Face. Harvey and Oswald should be used more than Joker though because as much of a fan of him as I am the overuse is a bit above a joke pardon the pun.
Absolutely
Gonna be honest, I like old school master thief Penguin more than the knockoff Kingpin version we've had since the 90's.
I think we should get a combination of both
I wouldn't mind the "Kingpin" angle if they actually made him as such instead of giving that role to Black Mask while making the Penguin a boring casino owner.
Any plan to return back to Hillbrook Asylum anytime soon Rogues?
Perfect timing
Idea for a new video series from you: rogues galleries ranked on either morality or power level
What do you think of the Penguin affair? I really liked the story.
Almost all of the best Penguin's comics are in the modern era. I think that Penguin is a character they didn't really know how to make edgy/threatening in the old times
Has anyone figured out what version of Bachs' "allemande BWV 13 in c minor" is used in this video?
FINALLY FOUND AFTER 4 YEARS- "Allemande" by Ahneta Maxwell
Doug moench is one of the best scarecrow writers in batman comics too
What a Bird brain he is
I was In a comic shop today and I was looking at the shelves and I saw the three jokers storyline with its four books and I though when’s the last time penguin got one of those big storylines? I mean riddler, two face, and scarecrow get that once in a couple years but where’s penguin’s big 3 book arc?
He doesn’t get four books he doesn’t get three he doesn’t get anything. I mean why is joker always the one to get these big storylines. I mean other villains get them but joker gets the most. I love the joker but it feels like he’s the go to Batman villain while throwing the rest either of to the side waiting for their turn or just hurling them into the trash.
13:16 doesn’t he reminded you of Gru from Despicable me?
Legit wanting Harvey's video to be 2 hours long...
@@samuelwilliams1619 Two hours, Twenty-two minutes and Twenty-two seconds would be just PERFECT.
Hey Mr.Rouges can you do a video on forgotten movie villain Eric Binford From fade to black?
Now here's a request you thought you'd never see, you might think I might need to be put Arkham Asylum, but I am 100% sane.
Mr. Rogues, I would like you to do a video on villains from the show "Miraculous Ladybug".
Penguin is gonna be in the upcoming Batman movie
I don't care if the next video is 2 hours long. You go all out for your favorite character.
11:51 #4 kinda looks like "HA"
Edit: 11:52....huh. fitting
The penguin is a classic batman villain. 😀👍
Gotham is in New Jersey, apparently.
Two Shows to Watch for Great Penguin Action:
“Gotham” (2014-2019): Entertaining and Violent Take
“Batman the Television Series” (1966-68): Entertaining, Campy Silver Age Take
Pengy is my Personal Bat Rogue. He (for me) is the most relatable of them. I also think that Pengy is more relateable Today then He ever was. Do miss Thrill Seeker/Super Villain Pengy tho. Crime Boss is kinda dull.
Top Ten Batman Villains:
1. The Joker
2. The Riddler
3. The Scarecrow
4. The Mad Hatter
5. The Penguin
6. Two-Face
7. Ra’s Al Ghul
8. Mr. Freeze
9. Clayface
10. Poison Ivy
Didn’t include Harley Quinn or Catwoman because they’re more antiheroes/heroes than villains these days.
Didn’t include Kite Man because he’s too nice to be a villain, at the end of “City of Bane” arc he and Batman were hanging out together in a bar.
The Number One story gives me the implication that Batman is a jerk who refuses to let his villains reform just so he can kick their asses
It wouldn`t be a Mr.Rogues video without a No Mans Land recap.
Yay content also it’s in Jersey
Hi Mr. Rogues you said if your going to read just one Penguin story read (Penguin Pain & Prejudice) ✅
If Your going to read just one Riddler story read (Detective Comics Annual #8 Questions Multiply The Mystery) ✅
Now here's my question to YOU and your followers/subscribers
If I'm going to read just one BATMAN story what should I make it ?
If I'm going to read just one JOKER story what should I make it ?
If I'm going to read just one Catwoman story what should I make it ?
do a catwoman one please!
The Penguin is one of DC's best villains, so sad that DC looks at him as a loser and joke character and puts him in the same ranks with Kite-Man
@Ayham4002 Exactly.
No honorable mentions?
New Jersey.
i don't care i am a penguin fan
You’re a Batman fan? Name every Classic penguin story
All 10 of them?
