I can’t believe you have been working on the house for 2 years. Have been an avid viewer from way before you moved. It has gone so quick, had no idea it was 2 years. It’s a fantastic home, the love passion and craftsmanship that have gone into the place is amazing. Only a few more rooms to finish off……2 more years? Haha. Keep it up. Cheers

I live in europe, first time i actually saw new zealand (more than just a wikipedia page) was by watching this channel 4 years ago or so... meanwhile i got married, we went to new zealand for our honeymoon (didnt go to nelson though), absolutely fell in love with it, now we're considering moving there permanently, napier or wellington... you are a lot more than a carpenter and a youtuber mate, at least for me. ❤

We wish you all the very best in the year ahead in the hope you keep enjoying your work process. The channel has taken on a life of its own that must be hard to keep harnessed, but magnificently grounded you remain. We appreciate the hard work going into video production and the vast generosity in giving 366,000 households a window into your lives. It’s a treat to see your home and garden evolve step by step. You give us back to back video gems and introduce us to natty tips and new tools. It may well be that you are sparking a global DIY community into action. There will be expanding home workshops worldwide and it’s helped us handy people become more handy. Our own workshop benefits from your superb tool reviews; many nifty items have been purchased this year. It’s all so darned valuable. Just keep doing what you are doing but it’s a relief to hear you might let yourselves have more down time in order to keep life balanced. No need to fall over! It’s not a mouse wheel.
RUclips and Major Sponsors keep that support coming so this great team can sustain this quality of delivery and intense work pace; so more people learn about their DIY options, pick up new tools and see furniture and fit out innovations. For pity’s sake RUclips this couple deserves an award.
Thank you Jess, Scott, Ray, Gaston, sponsors and your wider support teams. Jules and John, Windwhistle.

Wonderful video, so well composed. Especially nice for us who have been with you from the beginning (has it been two years?!) It's been great to see you do things that are often not done by the builder, like cabinets and windows. Here in California we aren't allowed to build windows because they have to be certified for energy efficiency. You could but you'd have a time getting site made windows certified. I find it interesting that when you break to eat, you call it Smoko, as if having a smoke is the primary purpose of stopping work--and NZ almost outlawed smoking altogether.

I am so glad to see that as a builder it has taken you two years to get this far with your renovation. My last house took me 4 years to complete it from top to bottom, with no where near the amount of structural work that you have done. It makes me feel good that I could actually complete it in 4 years :)

I’ll never get over your pronunciation of deck. And it is even better as I just drove past a grocery store called Giant that was right next to a popular American sports store.
Jokes aside, Scott and Jess are an inspiration. Ups and downs, working through it all in small steps, and not glossing past the slow parts like a cable network show would. Really shows how attainable DIY is, and balances timeline expectations.

What a revelation this renovation has been Scott and Jess. To take a house whos bones were still original, add your touch and make it modern without losing any of its original charm words cannot express adequately. I know your reno is not complete, maybe 60% so far but wow what a transformation. And all on sponsorship, just proves anything is possible. Can't forget those on the side that have helped you get to this point; Stretch, Gaston, Eva and so many more. And yes Scott, both you and Jess need to focus some time on yourselves this year now that you are in a good place. Of course continue but at a more leisurely pace so you can have that work life balance and enjoy the rest of the reno. Can't wait to see your next video (",)

I haven't watched for a long time, and was delighted to see that you just posted this big video 2 days ago! Great timing! I don't think you can adjust those struts, but I think you can swap them out for less powerful ones! Simples fantastic work! Wow, what a lot of work guys! Firstly on the actual house, then on all the editing to create this video. I hope you are enjoying your new space away from the city. I loved the little hints of why you moved; birdsong and stunning vistas.
My husband and I lived in Auckland in 84-86, with one of our children being born in 1984 while we were there. She turns 40 this year so she has planned a trip back with myself, her daughter and one of her sisters. Now I want to include Nelson as one of our destinations as you have shown it to be a beautiful place.
We live in a rural town in Western Australia. We also reconfigured our house like you did. The mess was so worth it for the ‘new’ house we now have.

Here in NH we would never use so many posts on the deck, because digging holes is difficult and unpredictable due to rocks and boulders, and because we have to dig 48" for frost heaving. We can't use augers due to the rocks. We always minimize how many holes and just end up sizing up beams and joists. What you did makes sense given your situation.

This has been a real treat to watch. You guys have done an amazing job so far. It's hard to imagine that the house was any different than it is today, and that's how renovations should go! That's always my goal in a reno, to make people forget the way it was and never be able to see where the old ends and the new begins.

After 8 months of me renovating 2 bedrooms, bathroom, kitchen and living room, my wife lost her shit, she had enough, she could not deal with living in our house in a state of renovation.. suuuureely you guys are as well after 2 years of constant change!

So very pleased for you both. Well done. I shall wear my 'but can he hang a door' t-shirt tomorrow in your honour. Marvellous.
