The show doesn’t feel like goosebumps at all, it’s lacking the urban legend, spooky, campy feel. Episode 6 was decent, but that is really it. And I think episode 6 felt entertaining only because a lot of elements from the show coalesced.
Absolutely agreed, man! I know a lot of my friends have said they didn’t mind the change, but I think it’s a shame to adapt a book as great as Cuckoo clock as poorly as they have, in this episode lol.

Wasn't a fan of how they did the Cuckoo Clock of Doom at all, I don't remember it making slime clones. Personally this was the worst of the 6 episodes I watched so far. Unlike others who I have heard like the Slappy episode, I wasn't a big fan of that one either as I just found that one to be a major bore and somewhat cringey with the Harrold Biddle character (can't even feel sympathy towards him lol and the show was desperately trying to make you feel that way, but this guy just looked like a creepy even before he got Slappy).
I still think the pilot is the worst for me, but this one is certainly right there with it lol. And episode 2. I also agree about your complaints about the Harry stuff. I just couldn’t care less, at this point 😂 Thanks for watching, pal!
This show leans way toooooo much on teen drama! Teen drama belongs in Fear Street, not Goosebumps, and if this is what helps contribute to the dark tone of the show, give me the dark tone from the monsters themselves in relation to the kids, rather than adding this teen melodrama stuff that is generic and bland at best in this series. I agree Michael, this show AINT Goosebumps, it just isn't! It's Goosebumps in name only and they took the lazy approach and it shows in the scriptwriting and the pacing.

I definitely think this was the weakest episode. While I think the clone idea is interesting, it just doesn't work with the Cuckoo Clock of Doom. If this episode were an adaptation of "I Am Your Evil Twin" or "Let's Get Invisible", it would have worked really well. The time loop aspect should have been the focus of the whole episode.

I suggest you watch the show "Mister Midnight", its the show I believe this new "Goosebumps" show SHOULD'VE been, a mix of the right spices and a mix of the right cheeses, which in my opinion is the tone Goosebumps always gave off. The monsters are actually in your face creating terror instead of being put on the back burner, and the teenaged characters in that show are actually likeable and tolerable too! Also if you want to check out a movie that is what the "Goosebumps" movie SHOULDVE BEEN, watch "The Curse of Dark Hallow". Its almost similar to the second "Goosebumps" movie with the costumes becoming real, but 10 times better.
I kinda like the first Goosebumps movie (haven't seen Haunted Halloween). It's definitely a departure in tone from the more straightly played Goosebumps stuff (like the 90's show & the books) and isn't really even attempting to be scary, but it's more of a love letter to the community (the fans, the more iconic monsters and books, and of course, Stine himself). Not amazing, but with enough sincere affection that it works as a nostalgic tribute.

You’re right Michael 😂 I did enjoy episode 6, I think the strongest (and only strongest) element of this show are the flashbacks, especially to ‘93 (year I was born). Harold moving to his grandfathers old house with his parents felt very Goosebumps esc, the use of music and 90’s references were great (smashing pumpkins, X files). So this proves, the writers DO know Goosebumps when they choose to incorporate it, but they have chosen to go down this ‘woke’ road which will age very badly, and we have to suffer with it now 😂
If the writers really knew Goosebumps I'd just say they adapt the books. They should read the books, adapt them, make creative choices in those adaptations that adhere to the tone of Stine's work, write good scripts, and steer clear away from going woke and throwing political jabs.

Yeah, Cuckoo Clock of Doom is definitely the worst episode by far. I don't mind the show being darker but focusing on teen drama then the monsters..I don't know how I feel about it. I saw Night of the Living Dummy and I'll be honest I really liked it. I'm one of the few who genuinely loved Slappy's design, he creeps me out more then any other Slappy.

If you haven’t heard of these, you should totally check them out: Creepshow (newer show on shudder, seasons 1,2, and 4 are all good), Creeped Out on Netflix, Haunting Hour, black mirror. All of those are newer shows are really, really great, for the most part, and they’re all anthologies.
There are so many books and short stories out there in the GB oeuvre that could have been adapted and they threw away the opportunity with this short-lived series---too many seasons would make the show look silly because of the concept they took---that isn't good and if it last only for two seasons, what's next for Goosebumps on the small screen? An anthology series could have lasted longer and given the number of stories out there, there's more to work with.

Go eat worms (episode 4) is definitely the better of the episodes released. I was trying to explain to my brother that they aren’t doing the objects/monsters justice. At this point why go off the original series? They should’ve just made a whole spinoff around horrorland, at least then there’s a ton of material to work with since they chose to do a full storyline and not 1 off episodes

The books are way better then the tv shows and movies from the 90’s. Which another youtuber pointed out. Still it also comes down to who was the show made for in age group. Can't believe this was my first sights of this tv series. However, I believe that it's a little silly: I kind of prefer the original storyline, but the clone stuff is just bad. I feel like if they did something like My Evil Twin, it would be so much better than just multiple clones. I don't like the idea of the clock working its magic every time James leaves the house, but that's just me. Damn, I feel bad, Michael. Not just for the actors, but for the community, anticipating a show that would resonate with us, but instead we got something that kind of resembles Stranger Things more than the whole entire Goosebumps franchise. This episode in particular, kind of feels like a gyg book. Damn, I'm just disappointed. And the fifth episode, for me is a little more decent than all the other ones - and it doesn't even take form of a true goosebumps book. I like the backstory of Harold Biddle in the sixth episode, but that's it. But hey, there's always light at the end of the tunnel, and we'll all see where the rest of this series takes us. Hopefully it will get tolerable lol.

@beccaharleen If you enjoyed it, that's great. There were only two episodes I found really entertaining and the rest was just filler sitcom which didn't do the character justice. There are some good moments sprinkled throughout (and the acting wasn't bad), but ham-fisted storytelling doesn't sit right when your main protagonist is cutting corners on the morality rail left and right. The writers also couldn't pin one arc down for Jennifer so the entire show felt like a disjointed Marvel comedy instead of an actual 4th-wall-breaking series which took the important stuff seriously. The ending was basically a writer's room brainstorming session on film. Really disappointing.
@jessejive117 I watch everything I critique. I'm not going to sit on laurels of praise for something though because a product happens to appeal to a very small segment of a fanbase. This new Goosebumps show is a CW show with a Goosebumps skin. So if you have a taste for teen melodramas with an atmosphere of spookiness, then this will probably be something you'd enjoy. But if you were to ask R.L. Stine how well they adapted his stories, I think he'd agree with the people who are criticizing the root problems with this show. The crazy thing is we already had a spiritual successor to the original 90s Goosebumps show and that was The Haunting Hour. If they went that route with this show (an anthology series) it would have felt more natural to the tone of Stine's vision for his stories. But hey, if you enjoy it, I'm happy for you.

I kinda like the first Goosebumps movie (haven't seen Haunted Halloween). It's definitely a departure in tone from the more straightly played Goosebumps stuff (like the 90's show & the books) and isn't really even attempting to be scary, but it's more of a love letter to the community (the fans, the more iconic monsters and books, and of course, Stine himself). Not amazing, but with enough sincere affection that it works as a nostalgic tribute.
It's not the worst thing, but it's just something we've seen a million times before. It's entertaining but it's not goosebumps. Far from it actually.

You’re right Michael 😂 I did enjoy episode 6, I think the strongest (and only strongest) element of this show are the flashbacks, especially to ‘93 (year I was born). Harold moving to his grandfathers old house with his parents felt very Goosebumps esc, the use of music and 90’s references were great (smashing pumpkins, X files). So this proves, the writers DO know Goosebumps when they choose to incorporate it, but they have chosen to go down this ‘woke’ road which will age very badly, and we have to suffer with it now 😂
If the writers really knew Goosebumps I'd just say they adapt the books. They should read the books, adapt them, make creative choices in those adaptations that adhere to the tone of Stine's work, write good scripts, and steer clear away from going woke and throwing political jabs.

Yeah, Cuckoo Clock of Doom is definitely the worst episode by far. I don't mind the show being darker but focusing on teen drama then the monsters..I don't know how I feel about it. I saw Night of the Living Dummy and I'll be honest I really liked it. I'm one of the few who genuinely loved Slappy's design, he creeps me out more then any other Slappy.

Hey Michael, I actually WALKED OUT of my showing for Edge of Tommarow or, as they call it Live Die Repeat (for some reason) while, I do disagree with your valid opinion on the show, and this episode. I do agree with your lack of interest for sci-fi future war movie where Tom Cruise repeatedly offs himself.

Agreed, man-it needs to be an anthology to feel anything like Goosebumps. The first movie was the only one to pull off something new, and Haunted Halloween did it a little unevenly. This show doesn’t even feel like it, in my opinion.

If you haven’t heard of these, you should totally check them out: Creepshow (newer show on shudder, seasons 1,2, and 4 are all good), Creeped Out on Netflix, Haunting Hour, black mirror. All of those are newer shows are really, really great, for the most part, and they’re all anthologies.

There are so many books and short stories out there in the GB oeuvre that could have been adapted and they threw away the opportunity with this short-lived series---too many seasons would make the show look silly because of the concept they took---that isn't good and if it last only for two seasons, what's next for Goosebumps on the small screen? An anthology series could have lasted longer and given the number of stories out there, there's more to work with.

Go eat worms (episode 4) is definitely the better of the episodes released. I was trying to explain to my brother that they aren’t doing the objects/monsters justice. At this point why go off the original series? They should’ve just made a whole spinoff around horrorland, at least then there’s a ton of material to work with since they chose to do a full storyline and not 1 off episodes
I absolutely agree, dude. I keep hearing people claim that they would’ve boxed themselves in by only adapting the books directly, but I disagree, because the original show wasn’t always a 100% adaptation. It did what it wanted, and it did it well lol.

Can't believe this was my first sights of this tv series. However, I believe that it's a little silly: I kind of prefer the original storyline, but the clone stuff is just bad. I feel like if they did something like My Evil Twin, it would be so much better than just multiple clones. I don't like the idea of the clock working its magic every time James leaves the house, but that's just me. Damn, I feel bad, Michael. Not just for the actors, but for the community, anticipating a show that would resonate with us, but instead we got something that kind of resembles Stranger Things more than the whole entire Goosebumps franchise. This episode in particular, kind of feels like a gyg book. Damn, I'm just disappointed. And the fifth episode, for me is a little more decent than all the other ones - and it doesn't even take form of a true goosebumps book.
I like the backstory of Harold Biddle in the sixth episode, but that's it.
But hey, there's always light at the end of the tunnel, and we'll all see where the rest of this series takes us. Hopefully it will get tolerable lol.

I absolutely loved it dude and as a massive MCU fan, nearly everything aside from Spider-Man no way home, guardians of the galaxy, and may be a couple shows since end game came out, have been awful to me. And I was not excited for the goosebumps show after I found out it wasn’t an anthology. I’m so glad I gave it a chance because it’s a really good sit down and have fun Halloween spooky TV show. The twisted metal show is the greatest thing I’ve ever seen on Peacock. As the biggest twisted metal fan you’ll ever meet. And breaking bad is my favorite show. I really like Django unchained, and the Wolf of Wall Street, and the departed as far as movies go and I loved infinity, war and endgame. For reference. I don’t watch cringie garbage normally
@beccaharleen If you enjoyed it, that's great. There were only two episodes I found really entertaining and the rest was just filler sitcom which didn't do the character justice. There are some good moments sprinkled throughout (and the acting wasn't bad), but ham-fisted storytelling doesn't sit right when your main protagonist is cutting corners on the morality rail left and right. The writers also couldn't pin one arc down for Jennifer so the entire show felt like a disjointed Marvel comedy instead of an actual 4th-wall-breaking series which took the important stuff seriously. The ending was basically a writer's room brainstorming session on film. Really disappointing.
@jessejive117 I watch everything I critique. I'm not going to sit on laurels of praise for something though because a product happens to appeal to a very small segment of a fanbase. This new Goosebumps show is a CW show with a Goosebumps skin. So if you have a taste for teen melodramas with an atmosphere of spookiness, then this will probably be something you'd enjoy. But if you were to ask R.L. Stine how well they adapted his stories, I think he'd agree with the people who are criticizing the root problems with this show.
The crazy thing is we already had a spiritual successor to the original 90s Goosebumps show and that was The Haunting Hour. If they went that route with this show (an anthology series) it would have felt more natural to the tone of Stine's vision for his stories. But hey, if you enjoy it, I'm happy for you.

There is no way for Chatgpt to have the goosebumps books in its knowledge database since the books were written before the electronic format days and there are less than a dozen books that have been converted to pdf! And it's not like you could out the entire book in a prompt either! So if someone were to use AI to write the scripts they would have to give a book summary of their own, and if none of the writers have read the books then I could see how AI would just fill in made-up details. P.S. I know for a fact that I could make much better scripts for a new Goosebumps show. Problem is I don't want to write an entire TV series without a contract 1st since I already wrote an entire Goosebumps series featuring Mr. Wood, A-Mazo & Slappy and got rejected by RL Stine’s agent and Scholastic made it clear I couldn't submit without an agent :( Maybe I gave up too easily but I did try a couple of other agents and none of them wanted to pitch a book in which RL Stine owned the copyrights :(
