Dark Knight is in my top ten favorite movies of all time. It’s a Wonderful Life and Donnie Darko are tied for my favorite movie ever. I love dark movies and shows, but this isn’t that lol. I think the reason it doesn't feel like a Goosebumps show is because Disney only cares about the selling power of the brand. They want to make a generic political high school story for the 100th time but know it won't sell on its own merit, so they hijack a famous name like Goosebumps and loosely base their story around that theme. I saw that there are due to be two Slappy episodes in the second half of the show so look forward to being doubly disappointed
This is the biggest problem with major franchises in general right now. Writers (hacks, mostly) don't actually want to write them, but they want their audiences, so they try to do a lazy cheat where they make their own thing (that nobody wants) but slap the name and some superficial elements on there. The result is always awful and fools almost no one.

Carly Beth is also a human being, with feelings of anger and revenge. The mask only gives her the courage to do bad things. The old version of The Haunted Mask obviously showed the Carly’s gradual arousal of evil thoughts and her fear when the mask couldn't be taken off. The new version simply shows the heroine wearing the mask and going drunk and crazy.

I think that the person whom posted that is just racist and sexist, to be honest lol. I think the fact that no one ever said anything was forced in something like Haunting Of Hill House on netflix, and it’s generally received well by everyone (including myself lol) says a lot, and that people want QUALITY, not enforcement agenda of any kind lol. For real fans, we just wanted a scary kids show, anthology-based, nothing more. Crackpots like whoever posted that nonsense are just chronically online, and want to shape the world to how they think it should look. No subjectivity, in other words-only a truth they agree upon.

I don't think this episode tarnished the legacy that is the The Haunted Mask but try to provide a unique take on the story however I was disappointed how it was not scary or creepy as it predecessor I mean were they trying to replicated Golem from the Lord of the Rings?

Hey, man, sorry to see that you’re disappointed, too hahah. This whole new show is such a shame, overall. Wanted: The Haunted Mask is awesome, and so are the first two Haunted Mask books! I also love Attack if the Jack O’Lanterns, if you haven’t read that one yet. I think all of those really capture the fall and Halloween so well. If you check any of them out, I hope you’ll enjoy them!

Looks like I’m in the minority here but I’m digging the new series. I also wasn’t going into this expecting it to be like the old show or new adaptations of the books. I personally enjoy the bit of edge the show has because normally Goosebumps is so silly. It’s nice to see some real danger. I’m also not overly offended by the haunted mask. Do I think it could have looked cooler? Yes. But I also take it as a “blank slate”, that inhabits the wearer and brings out their dark side or what they are lacking. I loved the Go Eat Worms episode and am looking forward to seeing Slappy come into the fold.
I can get way people aren't too interested in the new design of the Haunted Mask. But the way I see it, they changed the more traditional horrifying look of the Haunted Mask to be more disturbing, and two to make the mask more expressive because the face of the mask does change throughout the episode. But mainly the Haunted Mask is still the Haunted Mask. It still changes the personality of the person that wears it, makes em aggressive and violent, the main thing is that they changed the look but kinda, we do get a more traditional looking Haunted Mask near the end of the episode
The end of the episode absolutely does not represent any form of the Haunted Mask in any form of media, man lol. It looks like Gollum, and every person I’ve shown that moment to have made that comparison. It’s not even green-therefore, it is, by default, NOT a traditional version of one of the greatest monsters ever created in horror. If you like it, I can understand that, but no one can defend what they did to the mask.

Friendly reminder that yes, while Disney sucks, they don't actually have any involvement here. Sony still has the rights to Goosebumps and this is yet another production of theirs but since they don't have a streaming service I assume Disney ended up being the highest bidder to the streaming rights. Hey Michael, I recently got a new goosebumps book I haven’t read I have maybe 20-30 goosebumps books so far in my collection and the newest book I ordered from thrift books comes in hopefully in a few days it’s why I’m afraid of bees always looked funny to me and I honestly love a goofy goosebumps story at this point rn in my collection my least favorite book is go eat worms and my favorite is piano lessons can be murder or ghost beach sorry for the long rant my man god bless you and have a good rest of your day.

When I saw that the new goosebumps was going to be in disney + that was a HUGE red flag for me. I was really doubtful to see it especially because it's disney and I already knew that there was going to be political ideology and didn't want to give money to this garbage company, now after this I'm not going to do it. Unfortunately we are living in a world where we are not allow to have a different opinion, if someone doesn't like a show they are labelled as __phobic/racist/misogynist and we are not allow to have escapism anymore these days . As far as I was able to see, it looks like we (the people who dislike the show) are in the minority this time, just look in IMDB and rotten tomatoes they are giving the serie a high score (both critics and the audience) so don't be surprise if they get a second season :c All this situation reminds of what happened to the she-ra fandom, they did a reboot serie that didn't respect the original source material and had a lot of woke politics, the OG fans were labelled homophics because they didn't like it. Overall the serie ended with 5 seasons, so I'm pretty sure the same thing is going to happen here.
Never believe what review sites tell you to think, dude. IMDb modifies it’s review scores all the time-specially when things like Halloween Ends, Captain Marvel, and MCU junk came out lol. You can’t trust a general score from them, and Rotten Tomatoes was recently proven to be a shill’s paradise, too hahah. I will not, for one second, believe folks like you and I are in the minority-the comments on these two episodes reviews from the new show are enough to tell me that most people watching my channel don’t like the new show. This is how the media gaslights people-trying to force FOMO on people. They’ve done it constantly with the Disney Star Wars stuff. Just hang in there hahah. There’s no way people watched this more than Ahsoka, and the Ahsoka response was overwhelmingly negative.

I don’t even want to address Stine, mainly because they didn’t come to him about anything in the show, as far as we’ve been told. Stine said it was kind of the same way as the original show-they never came to him unless they wanted him to make a cameo, there lol. @@MichaelGoosebumpsFan the original Cuckoo Clock of Doom episode from the classic Goosebumps was awesome and memorable, it had a cool time travel premise and the ending was very dark. This was the most woke thing I've ever seen from the Goosebumps franchise, James was already the worst character in the series so far so making him the main character was a bad sign, the effect of his exploding body looked bad, the humor wasn't good, it wasn't scary (atleast Haunted Mask looked creepy when it smiled), then it got focused on the teen drama and I just didn't care for it at all.
There first mistake is trying to tie all stories into 1, then they re inventing episodes from the tv show 🙄 all they need to do is do solo episodes and do the ones we aint seen before Camp jellyjam Creature teacher etc Keep it simple not this crap
I’m very much a fan of the original series and I absolutely adored the books. The two of them along with haunting hour were very enjoyable and pretty much got me into horror. I guess I’m in the minority here, but I actually really enjoy the fresh and original story they are developing here. I like the characters and the story is intriguing me, that being said I understand where all the hate is coming from. I think the books were translated well into the modern era and while almost certainly controversial are good for what they are. I absolutely get the dislike that this isn’t an anthology, but the definitive hate it’s getting I don’t think is warranted. For most deep cut Goosebumps fans, I know that this isn’t it and doesn’t feel like the original, but despite that I am still very excited for what is too come. In the end, while the soap opera stuff is kinda annoying, for what we got I’m satisfied. Again I know I’m in the minority here and I respect the points you made. Also Justin Long is still amazing here, loved him in Barbarian and he seems to be having fun here.

This one is okay than the first episode but still not the greatest, especially this is just so far, far away in quality of The Haunted Mask but the big problem is it just relies on the very worldbuilding and background but the main Haunted Mask aspects are just barely in it like only 5 minutes of the action, but the build up leading up to it like amplyfying Isabella's emotions are kinda cool but those are just unfocused like, just please, just focus on Isabella but they just focus on what happens of the main character from the first episode leading to not me care that much on the main character which is bad writing and the rest feels forced now. I just find the pacing all over the place on this one also the how they defeat the mask is just so weak compared to atleast the hearttouching solution in the original books. I gave this like 2.25/5, maybe could have been better I guess. lols The next episode is kinda getting okay on me.
Yah, I know. I really wish this was good. I really want to believe it. Michael, I'm sure you could agree that originals are always gonna be the greatest instead of the remakes. Right. It's like what the heck. I know disney movies that I've watched that I watched when I was young. Then the live action came out and it was like come on. Same with cartoons that I watched when I was young. Like why, why. If I was one of the people that wrote the script, I would make sure that it makes sense, is actually good like the original and make it where the people like it. But now a days, they just care about the money. They don't care if it sucks. It's just sad. I was so disappointed. I was actually wanting people to be wrong about if it was going to be bad. When you wrote how you think it might be bad, I was like: "Maybe it won't be. Maybe for one just once, they'll care and do their best. Better yet, they'll shock us on how much they care, that they'll even give us more then expected. Like the music, parts of the book that they didn't show in the original. Maybe they could bring back the old actors and actresses as the parents. Idk, just something good that would make us proud. But I get how you feel. You try to be positive about it being good, but it lets you down. I'm a somewhat positive person but this o let me down. I just hope that this complaint and stuff might just teach them a lesson about how not to do it quite remakes if then dare to do that same mistake again. Especialln to die hard shows like you've said. It's like it's 2023 and they're still messing it up. I admit, there's some good stuff that they did right for remakes, but they seem to not pay attention to what they did to earn that. If they did, I'm sure they would've figured it out. If they did, then, stuff would've been much better by now.
I'm actually in the camp of enjoying the show a bit (shocking, I know lol). I absolutely agree that the anthology style is better suited for the series as a whole, but I kind of like the approach taken similar to that of Fear Street movies; loosely inspired stories lines from the books as flavor to a largely original plot. While the book and the original 90s episodes will ALWAYS be the definite versions of the mask (my favorite of the whole series mind you) I think they did a decent job blending the DNA of the original into this story they are telling. One thing I do have to say, is that there just isn't enough of the Goosebumps stuff. It just kind of pops up and then when you just start to get into it, they rip out to return to the original story line. At the end of the day, we always have the originals that we can go back to as we always have lol! I am definitely looking at this series as more of an "Inspired by Goosebumps" rather than an "Adaptation of Goosebumps"; like the 90s show. Love the passion in your videos by the way, your videos never fail to bring some joy in my life!

I’ve been really enjoying the series, I think more so because I went into with more of an open mind with how it was going to be adapted. I love the design of the new mask I think it works well with the tone of the show.

As a goosebumps fan I like it better than the movies. They did do the haunted mask dirty but I liked the football game scene. After episode 2 tho I really vibe with the show it’s definitely not scary but I like the dark story that’s going on. Let’s not forget the 90s show had some bad episodes, cheesy/corny moments and some episodes that were not creepy or scary. But to each their own me personally I fw it hopefully they don’t mess up slappy because then it’s garbage
At least the 90’s show felt like Goosebumps and not a watered down riverdale clone. This has non of the heart and soul that Goosebumps has, just saying. Feels like a different show that happens to have Goosebumps monsters in it.

so uk disney plus (right now at least) only has eps 3&4 so i just though i'll give it a try, and i actually thought ep 3 was not too bad! i think ep three is probably 3 out of five stars and what i've seen of ep 4 looks like 3.5 of 5 stars! i think it's still a let down but not too bad, but then again i haven't seen the first two... i hope disney fixes that...
If you wanna watch something that isn't a big slap in the face. I recommend an anime called Jujutsu kaisen. It's dark, tense, Has some gruesome imagery, and Funny. There is a second season going on now and from what I have heard (haven't read the manga, so anyone who has, please no spoilers) its gonna be one wild ride.

Goosebumps was never made for teens. Goosebumps has consistently always been a children’s franchise, and if adults or teens liked it, they became fans of it, but it was always aimed towards a children’s audience until the IDW crap comics came out, a few years back. The franchise has now been haggled and deformed into melodrama for boring, modern teenagers that think they’re actually interesting. It’s the same ego Disney has had in recent years that has ruined franchise after franchise. Star Wars doesn’t work as comedy, and Goosebumps doesn’t work as adult entertainment.

Also: the Haunted Mask really made me mad, but I just thought about something. Maybe the mask looked like that when Isabella wore it because she was an “internet troll”… When she was taking the mask off in front of her brother the mask was telling her not to take it off because she’s really a “troll”. That’s why it turned her into a troll. If someone else wears it maybe it will change to something else. And if that’s the case, maybe we will still see the Haunted Mask that we all know and love at some point.

The show is horrible so far man lol. I watched the 5 episodes that released today and it's not even scary. I think the reason it doesn't feel like a Goosebumps show is because Disney only cares about the selling power of the brand. They want to make a generic political high school story for the 100th time but know it won't sell on its own merit, so they hijack a famous name like Goosebumps and loosely base their story around that theme. I saw that there are due to be two Slappy episodes in the second half of the show so look forward to being doubly disappointed
This is the biggest problem with major franchises in general right now.
Writers (hacks, mostly) don't actually want to write them, but they want their audiences, so they try to do a lazy cheat where they make their own thing (that nobody wants) but slap the name and some superficial elements on there.
The result is always awful and fools almost no one.

Wanted: The Haunted Mask is awesome, and so are the first two Haunted Mask books! I also love Attack if the Jack O’Lanterns, if you haven’t read that one yet. I think all of those really capture the fall and Halloween so well. If you check any of them out, I hope you’ll enjoy them!

Looks like I’m in the minority here but I’m digging the new series. I also wasn’t going into this expecting it to be like the old show or new adaptations of the books. I personally enjoy the bit of edge the show has because normally Goosebumps is so silly. It’s nice to see some real danger.
I’m also not overly offended by the haunted mask. Do I think it could have looked cooler? Yes. But I also take it as a “blank slate”, that inhabits the wearer and brings out their dark side or what they are lacking. I loved the Go Eat Worms episode and am looking forward to seeing Slappy come into the fold.
I can get way people aren't too interested in the new design of the Haunted Mask. But the way I see it, they changed the more traditional horrifying look of the Haunted Mask to be more disturbing, and two to make the mask more expressive because the face of the mask does change throughout the episode.
But mainly the Haunted Mask is still the Haunted Mask. It still changes the personality of the person that wears it, makes em aggressive and violent, the main thing is that they changed the look but kinda, we do get a more traditional looking Haunted Mask near the end of the episode
The end of the episode absolutely does not represent any form of the Haunted Mask in any form of media, man lol. It looks like Gollum, and every person I’ve shown that moment to have made that comparison. It’s not even green-therefore, it is, by default, NOT a traditional version of one of the greatest monsters ever created in horror.
If you like it, I can understand that, but no one can defend what they did to the mask.

Friendly reminder that yes, while Disney sucks, they don't actually have any involvement here. Sony still has the rights to Goosebumps and this is yet another production of theirs but since they don't have a streaming service I assume Disney ended up being the highest bidder to the streaming rights. Just wanted to clear that up!

Hey Michael, I recently got a new goosebumps book I haven’t read I have maybe 20-30 goosebumps books so far in my collection and the newest book I ordered from thrift books comes in hopefully in a few days it’s why I’m afraid of bees always looked funny to me and I honestly love a goofy goosebumps story at this point rn in my collection my least favorite book is go eat worms and my favorite is piano lessons can be murder or ghost beach sorry for the long rant my man god bless you and have a good rest of your day.

When I saw that the new goosebumps was going to be in disney + that was a HUGE red flag for me. I was really doubtful to see it especially because it's disney and I already knew that there was going to be political ideology and didn't want to give money to this garbage company, now after this I'm not going to do it. Unfortunately we are living in a world where we are not allow to have a different opinion, if someone doesn't like a show they are labelled as __phobic/racist/misogynist and we are not allow to have escapism anymore these days . As far as I was able to see, it looks like we (the people who dislike the show) are in the minority this time, just look in IMDB and rotten tomatoes they are giving the serie a high score (both critics and the audience) so don't be surprise if they get a second season :c
All this situation reminds of what happened to the she-ra fandom, they did a reboot serie that didn't respect the original source material and had a lot of woke politics, the OG fans were labelled homophics because they didn't like it. Overall the serie ended with 5 seasons, so I'm pretty sure the same thing is going to happen here.
Never believe what review sites tell you to think, dude. IMDb modifies it’s review scores all the time-specially when things like Halloween Ends, Captain Marvel, and MCU junk came out lol. You can’t trust a general score from them, and Rotten Tomatoes was recently proven to be a shill’s paradise, too hahah. This was the most woke thing I've ever seen from the Goosebumps franchise, James was already the worst character in the series so far so making him the main character was a bad sign, the effect of his exploding body looked bad, the humor wasn't good, it wasn't scary (atleast Haunted Mask looked creepy when it smiled), then it got focused on the teen drama and I just didn't care for it at all.

I’m very much a fan of the original series and I absolutely adored the books. The two of them along with haunting hour were very enjoyable and pretty much got me into horror. I guess I’m in the minority here, but I actually really enjoy the fresh and original story they are developing here. I like the characters and the story is intriguing me, that being said I understand where all the hate is coming from. I think the books were translated well into the modern era and while almost certainly controversial are good for what they are. I absolutely get the dislike that this isn’t an anthology, but the definitive hate it’s getting I don’t think is warranted. For most deep cut Goosebumps fans, I know that this isn’t it and doesn’t feel like the original, but despite that I am still very excited for what is too come. In the end, while the soap opera stuff is kinda annoying, for what we got I’m satisfied. Again I know I’m in the minority here and I respect the points you made. Also Justin Long is still amazing here, loved him in Barbarian and he seems to be having fun here.

This one is okay than the first episode but still not the greatest, especially this is just so far, far away in quality of The Haunted Mask but the big problem is it just relies on the very worldbuilding and background but the main Haunted Mask aspects are just barely in it like only 5 minutes of the action, but the build up leading up to it like amplyfying Isabella's emotions are kinda cool but those are just unfocused like, just please, just focus on Isabella but they just focus on what happens of the main character from the first episode leading to not me care that much on the main character which is bad writing and the rest feels forced now. I just find the pacing all over the place on this one also the how they defeat the mask is just so weak compared to atleast the hearttouching solution in the original books.
I gave this like 2.25/5, maybe could have been better I guess. lols

Right. It's like what the heck. I know disney movies that I've watched that I watched when I was young. Then the live action came out and it was like come on. Same with cartoons that I watched when I was young. Like why, why. If I was one of the people that wrote the script, I would make sure that it makes sense, is actually good like the original and make it where the people like it. But now a days, they just care about the money. They don't care if it sucks. It's just sad. I was so disappointed. I was actually wanting people to be wrong about if it was going to be bad. When you wrote how you think it might be bad, I was like: "Maybe it won't be. Maybe for one just once, they'll care and do their best. Better yet, they'll shock us on how much they care, that they'll even give us more then expected. Like the music, parts of the book that they didn't show in the original. Maybe they could bring back the old actors and actresses as the parents. Idk, just something good that would make us proud. But I get how you feel. You try to be positive about it being good, but it lets you down. I'm a somewhat positive person but this o let me down. I just hope that this complaint and stuff might just teach them a lesson about how not to do it quite remakes if then dare to do that same mistake again. Especialln to die hard shows like you've said. It's like it's 2023 and they're still messing it up. I admit, there's some good stuff that they did right for remakes, but they seem to not pay attention to what they did to earn that. If they did, I'm sure they would've figured it out. If they did, then, stuff would've been much better by now.
I'm actually in the camp of enjoying the show a bit (shocking, I know lol). I absolutely agree that the anthology style is better suited for the series as a whole, but I kind of like the approach taken similar to that of Fear Street movies; loosely inspired stories lines from the books as flavor to a largely original plot. While the book and the original 90s episodes will ALWAYS be the definite versions of the mask (my favorite of the whole series mind you) I think they did a decent job blending the DNA of the original into this story they are telling. One thing I do have to say, is that there just isn't enough of the Goosebumps stuff. It just kind of pops up and then when you just start to get into it, they rip out to return to the original story line. At the end of the day, we always have the originals that we can go back to as we always have lol! I am definitely looking at this series as more of an "Inspired by Goosebumps" rather than an "Adaptation of Goosebumps"; like the 90s show. Love the passion in your videos by the way, your videos never fail to bring some joy in my life!

As a goosebumps fan I like it better than the movies. They did do the haunted mask dirty but I liked the football game scene. After episode 2 tho I really vibe with the show it’s definitely not scary but I like the dark story that’s going on. At least the 90’s show felt like Goosebumps and not a watered down riverdale clone. This has non of the heart and soul that Goosebumps has, just saying. Feels like a different show that happens to have Goosebumps monsters in it.

If you wanna watch something that isn't a big slap in the face. I recommend an anime called Jujutsu kaisen. It's dark, tense, Has some gruesome imagery, and Funny. There is a second season going on now and from what I have heard (haven't read the manga, so anyone who has, please no spoilers) its gonna be one wild ride.

I disagree. I think it is fine. I think you just want something it never pretended to be. This was made for gen z teens, just like the 90s show was made for 90s teens
Goosebumps was never made for teens. Goosebumps has consistently always been a children’s franchise, and if adults or teens liked it, they became fans of it, but it was always aimed towards a children’s audience until the IDW crap comics came out, a few years back. The franchise has now been haggled and deformed into melodrama for boring, modern teenagers that think they’re actually interesting. It’s the same ego Disney has had in recent years that has ruined franchise after franchise. Star Wars doesn’t work as comedy, and Goosebumps doesn’t work as adult entertainment.

I just signed up for a free month of Hulu so I could watch this trash lol. I just finished the first 2 episodes and I’m really not liking it… hopefully it gets better. Fingers crossed.
Also: the Haunted Mask really made me mad, but I just thought about something. Maybe the mask looked like that when Isabella wore it because she was an “internet troll”… When she was taking the mask off in front of her brother the mask was telling her not to take it off because she’s really a “troll”. That’s why it turned her into a troll. If someone else wears it maybe it will change to something else. And if that’s the case, maybe we will still see the Haunted Mask that we all know and love at some point.
@@ERB88 I also watched the third episode last night, and thought it was just as bad lol. I absolutely hate this show lol.
And also: Letterman (I believe) did an interview recently, claiming that the haunted mask would slowly turn into what we saw of haunted mask on the original cover of the book from the 90s, so I’m convinced that the Gollum looking thing is what the mask is supposed to look like hahah. I’d be surprised if it changes, later on.
The show is horrible so far man lol. I watched the 5 episodes that released today and it's not even scary. The only good thing of the show was Justin Long's charm, if it wasn't for him the show would be worse lol. The episodes so far are bland and boring. Overall, the show is a disappointment so far unfortunately. I hope episodes 6 to 10 get better. Theres nothing like watching night of the living dummy 3 episode from the original 90s show compared to the new series haha.
