    All of you wonderful travelers out there are helping this old man lying in his bed right now feel more vibrant, feel more alive. Just home from having the knee replaced , And working towards a good therapeutic resolution. Lots of ice drinking lots of water and putting the leg through as many motions as I can. Being able to be part of the audience looking at all of your works is like having magic work inside my mind and heart. And from those very places I want to say again thank you thank you thank you

      You can hike it any time of year, depending on the current weather of course. The trail was closed for a while due to flooding and landslides a couple years ago so I'm not sure what the latest is, if it's opened back up or not. If you call the parks office they'll let you know.

I'm catching up on your whole body of work and have watched some of your other channel's videos, equally compelling, as well as Sterling's. Here on the Na Pali (cliffs - geez - I'd be hugging the side along that one stretch where it was like a 500 foot drop) Coast and with Sterling you had great material to work with, like a Jon Krakauer book, and the really cool song at the end perfectly capped it. Ten out of ten on this one.

    Don't go to the half-point to camp. It's in a shaded area, but it's also moist so there's rats around that camp area. Start early in the morning and hike the full 11 miles to the main camp. It takes about 8-9 hours.

    What are your thoughts on the difficulty of this hike Gabe?? Was considering taking a trip out to Hawaii and would love to make this hike, but have never done a long distance hike. Would you recommend trying something else first or would someone my age be able to make it? (I'm 20 and in decent shape)

    • @GabrielTravelerVideos
      @GabrielTravelerVideos  7 лет назад +1

      It's an intense hike but if you're in decent shape then yeah, you should be able to make it fine. Especially if you break it up into two days getting out there like we did. Keep in mind that you have to get a permit, for up to 5 days, and they can be hard to get sometimes, depending on the dates. I forget now if you can get them online, but if you search around you should be able to find out. Otherwise there's an office in Lihue where you get the permits. It's definitely worth doing though if you can make it happen!

      It's usually not an issue but mosquitoes can be a problem in some places, so it's a good idea to have mosquito repellent.

      I just bought a load of dehydrated food (Mountain House and Backpackers Pantry brand); I've had them before numerous times, once you've nailed down which you like best, they're quite good. Backpackers Pantry makes a deadly Pad Thai, it's easily my favorite.
