You are so encouraging! I’m much older than you are and I’ve been dieting and worryingly about my weight for 40 years. I’ve tried EVERYTHING. Plant-based eating is the first plan I’ve been able follow AND enjoy without cravings. In 6 weeks, I’m 12lbs down...I don’t know the stone equivalent!...and I’m in it for life! Never hungry, love the real food. No expensive supplements. Just delicious potatoes, rice, beans, corn and ALL the green leafy veggies.
After being obese all my life, I just had an aha moment. The first time I went vegan (hclf) I gained so much weight. It discouraged me. I tried the Daniel's Fast and FINALLY lost weight with ease, 10 pounds! No sugar. No processed food. Just whole foods, mainly veggies. A lit kind of came on but I went back to processed foods, oils, salted nuts, and sugar thinking "oh its vegan" but I started gaining that easily. So now I understand, THIS is the lifestyle I have to commit to. Whole foods, but choosing veggies that are high in fiber. I feel like the lightbulb clicked on. I feel like I am FINALLY learning how to be healthy. I can only imagine my life had this been instilled in me as a child. I love this channel, and I will share it with everyone I can!!!
I was exactly like you....'healthy' but gaining weight. Didn't eat chocolate or crisps, vegan, but the pounds kept on piling on. But now I'm losing weight! Its been 2 months and I've lost 7lbs, and the weight keeps going in a downward direction every week, slowly but surely. Thank you for all these videos!!
I’ve been vegan roughly the same amount of time. I remember feeling amazing once I made the change and lost weight so easily. Then eventually, slowly, the weight crept back and fluctuates up and down. I always would have the same “raw” goals - freelee really messed our heads up! I’d always feel like a failure. Embarrassingly late but, I finally understand calorie density and wow, game changer.
The story was indeed quite inspiring and relatable and we should start appreciating people like you, who are making such videos for helping others (whether directly or indirectly ). Thank you!
This is probably the most sane, practical and healthy advice on healthy eating and losing weight I've heard in a while. Thank you!! Greetings from Germany
It IS totally freeing. Thank you for saying that. That’s how I felt when that light bulb went on for me watching High Carb Hannah talk about all of this. I literally cried. Haha I lost 9 lbs in the first 2 weeks and I didn’t even notice it. I’m still trying without restricting myself. I feel like I now know what my body needs. So crazy how simple it is :)
This is the single best advice anyone trying to lose weight can get. It’s so simple yet we drown ourselves with the latest diet trend. Thank you for the reminder.

Thanks for this video. Your story is very similar. Between having my three kids my weight has gone up and down. Now working in grad school and kids it's been hard maintain motivation. Thanks offering practical advice!!
Excellent video thank you!! Makes so much sense. I have recently started doing this after years of battling my weight and trying everything. Thank you!
It's good... but I imagine 3 heads of broccoli a day sounds like Mt Everest to some people. But you're a truth teller, clearly. If its what people need to hear, than preach sister!lol
This really does make sense. I have come to understand that simple is best. When you try to do fancy recipes and eat all kinds of foods, it keeps your cravings going. Keep it simple, find a few soups, food combinations, sauces, and use them over and over. It appears people who eat like this have the best success.
It wasn't too long. It was organized and simple to understand. I think you did a brilliant job explaining the calorie density. I always struggle with the last 10 lbs. And I'm finding out that although I don't buy bread at the store, I make my own bread. Bread is not my friend. If there is bread in my view - I'm going to eat it and eat it until it's gone. Bread is my achiles heel, my weakness. So, now I've made a NEW commitment to not have any bread in my house, other than maybe corn tortillas for bean tostadas, or something like that. Thanks Chelsea for another great video.
Great information in this video! This describes my journey almost to the T. I’ve had 4 children, and always resort to running and eating raw for weight loss. Time to do this once and for all. The word you were thinking of is *epitome* 😄
This is SO true! I have been predominately plant based for the past 10 years and have been able to maintain a healthy weight, too. It really does work!
This really resonated with me, I feel like crap lately as I’ve gained 12 lbs in the past few years. I’m 4’11 so I can definitely feel it and the amount of information has me overwhelmed on which diet is best. It is Friday today so will put this to action on this weekends grocery trip. Thank you so much for explaining this as simply as possible 🙏❤️
I understand calorie density. And I understand what I should be eating. But I crave things like bread and fatty foods how do you get over that ... You should make a video on it .. love your content it's for real people it makes me so happy I found you .
Same here, I know and understand, for over a year now, but can't commit in the long run, my husband is not into this, no support for me. I'm strong but I'm weak.
Rawfood diets kept me feeling like a failure even though the gurus were like, "This is the most nutrient dense diet there is!" I just couldn't stick to it without eating tons of avocado because I was feeling hungry and unsatiated all the damn time. The Starch Solution and eating according to the principles of calorie density in the only thing that's worked for me.
Same, literally fail and then re-commit cycle constantly with raw food. It's horrible. Can work for some but I hate that it's promoted as the only way.
@@veeveeisallyouneed - You didn't answer my question. Did you ask your doctor to do an ultrasound of your liver to see if you have fatty liver? Next - google - cause of NAFL (Non Alcohol Fatty Liver. Apparently carbs causes it. Even India & China's population suffers from it too.
@@OMGaNEWBIE I definitely do not have fatty liver disease. My doctor tells me that I'm his healthiest patient. My blood numbers are amazing, my arteries are clear, and my blood pressure is low. I have no reason to doubt my health. Liver disease is caused by cirrhosis (excessive alcohol consumption) and a lifetime of highly refined processed foods. I'm very sorry to hear that you have stumbled across some very inaccurate information.
Chelsea, this was a terrific video. I've been a subscriber for quite awhile. I really enjoy your energy and your family's involvement. But watching this today, with you being so honest about your past struggles and what you did to succeed really helped me. I had a sneaking suspicion that I should focus on getting the veggies in as a first move. Being a former fast food/restaurant eater I've really noticed how difficult it is to get an adequate amount of vegetables when you eat out. Then with all the fat and oil in the foods they offer it's no wonder I'm 80 pounds overweight. I know the 50/50 plate will work. I can prepare potatoes, whole grains and legumes ahead, that's pretty easy. But the focus needs to be on the veg. Thank you, thank you, thank you! 😊 B. From California in the heart of the SAD environment.
You are so so right. The veggies thing is the game changer!! This is why we recommend in Lean with Plants for women to be eat 1-2 pounds a day. Crowds out other calories and lowers the calories of your meals. 😊
I cannot tell you how similar are stories are! I was raw for quite some time and known as the "nutritionist" in my friend groups. I've also always worked at vegan restaurant so I have access to vegan ranch and easily-addictive vegan junk foods on a daily basis. It's also so hard because NO ONE I know understands or cares about no-oil and high-nutrient content. I've also constantly carried around about 15-20 lbs. more than I would like, and I am very physically active (building a farm). Thank you so much for sharing this - you have renewed my fervor to try again and get serious (again lol) about my weight loss! Much love from Tennessee, USA
Girl! Wish we could meet up in real life, would love to chat!! You can do this! One step at a time, one habit at a time. Would love to have you come join my Lean with Plant's program when it opens again in November!
Love it Chelsea Mae! I’ve been peeping all my veg once a week so it’s all ready to go, I make 7 greeen smoothies, chop carrots and celery, chop cucumber and carrot chips, etc. I eat nuts and healthy fats, but upping low calorie or density foods is the answer! 💚
Thank you so much for this! I am in the putting it into action stage. I find myself with a fridge full of fruit, veggies and potatoes and don't know what to do with it. Knowing I need to focus more on prepping is helpful! TY! xoxo
Thank you Chelsea these are great videos keep up the good work I'm just started watching your videos and I really like them so give me all the information you got young lady and thank you and have a blessed day
You are a joy to watch! Just found you! Binging on all your content now! REALLY love and appreciate that everything is so real and not so overly produced and stylized!
Thank you for posting - I think that here in NZ some of the raw ingredients in recipes overseas are quite different. I had also tried raw a few times, which did not help me to lose weight either. Hormone changes also add to becoming really frustrated. Appreciate your sharing these recipes.
Thank you so much! This is exactly what I needed to hear today. I completely know in my heart to crowd out my plate with more veggies and thanks to your message I’m going to do just that!
I understand your frustration. I am experiencing these issues! If I watch my calories, at night I get so hungry and binge...then I mess up and get frustrated and angry at myself. I eat a big huge vegetable...I eat oat meal at night...hunger is gone.
Thanks for sharing, very helpful tips! I have been stuck bouncing between 163lbs to 170lbs for about 3 months after losing 80lbs or so. Still want to lose another 30-40lbs. Will take your tips to heart.
Very helpful. Just starting Vegan for health reasons. I’m Not losing weight really, but I will take your advice. I like the fact that you are really upfront about what works, and what really makes a difference in weight loss, and calorie density. Thank you.
Thank you for another super helpful video. I agree - eating this way is not only easy to sustain but it is very freeing...you can go anywhere and eat as you wish. Best program ever!
Stumbled across your channel and boy am I glad I did! Thank you so much for the practicality you shared in your weight loss journey. All the tips are so good! Really appreciate you! 😭💕💕
Wonderful video, such helpful advice! I'm inspired to do exactly what you are advising. Thank you for sharing your journey, and especially your success formula!
You have no idea what a great help this video was, I've listened to Chef AJ on several occasions I never understood what she was saying as far as food density... your illustrations were spot on, very exact, I appreciate this video ..I think I can try to lose some weight now that i understand the process
Thank you! Great video, with lots of straight truths like setting ourselves up for success and being realistic about will power, and tangible ideas of what amounts of veggies we can be eating.
Thank you so so much for this video.. i really needed this today.. im at the lost and confused stage and just watching that video makes more sense to me what i need to do. thank you :)
I just found this. Really helpful, thank you. Interestingly (I think) your pictures before weight loss you have bad posture which makes it look worse, after weight loss you have good posture. A big part of the battle, I have found is about feeling good. I'm not saying weight loss isn't a good thing, all I'm saying is how you feel about yourself shows in posture, and posture can make it look worse. Apart from cutting calories I took up yoga and that helped immensely. Highly recommended.
Ok real talk I started tearing up at 15:50. You're totally talking to me! Lol. Thanks for re-inspiring me after like....over a year of stalling out completely! 😆
This video is SPOT ON! I love your videos, but much prefer this style than the white board - your face & talking beats that out every time. Also letting us know that it wasn’t a straight line for you from being overweight to now is also heartening bc, I don’t know about anyone else, but I keep convincing myself I can eat those high calorie density foods but nah. This is a lifestyle shift & NOT a diet :) It’s good to be reminded of that. Have a great week, Chels!
Thank You for your information about how to get past that hump that so many of us can identify with!! 💜I can totally relate to your story. I have recently been attuned to the 50/50 plate and have lost about 6 pounds in the last few months. I need to lose ideally about 20 more, so I will continue with this process. Your video helps to keep me going and what I need to do. Thank You again! ✨😊✨
Really helpful, thank you. I’m in stage 3 and I had decided that although I do have some weight to loose, I’m not going to stress about it, I’m going to be happy about what I’ve achieved so far with eating healthy and I’m now going to tweak it, so your video was really helpful in reassuring me I’m on the right track and that it can be done without me doing my usual approach of all or nothing. My journey is similar to yours also. Great video 👍🏽 thank you 🙏 have a great day ☺️
i cook potatoes in a instant pot , do i have to allow the potatoes get cold and eat them cold or can i eat them hot out of the instant pot ??? or do i reheat them after letting them get cold ?? ty🧒
I really like your video, I feel like i start and then my veggies go bad. Then I feel bad for wasting food. AUghh I need to get out of this bad cycle. Thank you
Your a great inspiration for the vegan community! Keep doing what you do it really helps me and I’m sure others trying to get back on track and trying to eat plant based ! Thank you 😊
Oh gosh me too!! Trying to go raw over and over made me feel like a failure! I still eat raw food and think it’s great, but I no longer try to go 100% raw.
I like the fact that you have introduced other food into your diet besides just broccoli. To just eat tons of vegetables at one meal doesn't really appeal to me, but I LOVE salads and I eat a good sized salad every day. I have incorporated veggie burgers, falafel, etc. into my diet. I love veggies, so that's not a problem, but I love Feta cheese and I don't see myself giving that up. I don't buy crackers, chips, ice cream, cookies, etc., but I could stand to lose 30 lbs easily. I hate counting calories, so I'm going to take your advice and eat more potatoes, which fill me up, along with my salad and we'll see what happens. I also exercise so that helps too.
Loved your video! I watched your interview with Chef AJ a few weeks or so ago. What kind of seasoning/sauces or dressing do you make? I love Chef AJ’s Yummy Sauce. How much fruit do you eat? Thanks for the content and motivation!!!
I have tried the 50/50 plate but struggled with being constantly hungry, example 3-4 pounds of potatoes and 4 cups of broccoli would last me maybe an hour before hunger set in again. After seeing McDougall say he wishes he never wrote the maximum weightloss book was my tipping point and I went back to starch solutions.
Wow I am so proud of you.. I would love to lose 10 pounds let alone 40 which would be great..I should be running a hour a day. I am a vegetarian I have never tried the full vegan thing tho. No when I moved I gained 20 pounds. I have lost 10 of it. Thank you for your video🦜🌺🏇
Great video, could you talk about snacks. Snacks which fit with your calorie density ideas and are easy and filing. I am satisfied with my meals but I find the gap between lunch and dinner too long... hence the question, thanks ...
I struggle with my weight like forever, I am seeing a therapist because of anxieties and he wanted me to check my vitamin d and it was low. Also he talks a lot about right nutrition etc. Now I am reading an eye opening book „ how not to diet“. I think in many cases we getting a lot of input how to loose weight but are we really good informed? Well I wasn’t till I read that book.
I understand calorie density, I struggle with wanting sauces with fat on my veggies. I end up craving fat and sugar and sabotage myself every time. How do you get passed the cravings for high calorie dense foods?
Get enough calories. Not enough the day before or exercising and not getting enough will make you crave fat or anything you can get easy calories from. Its about calorie density, not lowering your calories. Munch on fruit or veggies when preparing meals and bulk up on your starches, beans, ect.
Have you tried any of the WFPB SOS sauces? Many people post videos of themselves while making the recipe. Check out these channels to name a few, Chef AJ, The Jaroudi Family, TANNY RAW, Krocks In The Kitchen, Nutmeg Notebook...and so many more. They all have wonderful, easy recipes and great content. Good luck!
Check out Plantiful Kiki. She's been eating this way for a long time and has a lot of videos on how to do it. I think as far as fat and sugar, it will get better as you successfully eat more and more meals that are lower in those two things. Your taste buds will begin to change one meal at a time.

Thank you! Great video, with lots of straight truths like setting ourselves up for success and being realistic about will power, and tangible ideas of what amounts of veggies we can be eating.
So adorable !! Love the sincerity !!
Thanks for watching!!
This was so helpful! Thank you! I just found you on RUclips yesterday and I’m loving your videos 💗
You are so welcome!
Great video 👍🏽 thank you 🙏 have a great day ☺️
i cook potatoes in a instant pot , do i have to allow the potatoes get cold and eat them cold or can i eat them hot out of the instant pot ??? or do i reheat them after letting them get cold ?? ty🧒
Thank you so much Chelsea Mae for another super video! You are so inspiring!
You are a true inspiration Chelsea! I love all of your advice!! 💗
Thanks for the help. I have been struggling.
You have helped me a lot! Thanks for your videos.
Nice video that many people I am sure can relate to. Thanks for being such an inspiration.
Chelsea, you are golden! Keep it up👍🏽👍🏽
You are Gold ♥️🙏🏻💫 thank you so much! This is the best motivation I heard.
I really like your video, I feel like i start and then my veggies go bad. Then I feel bad for wasting food. AUghh I need to get out of this bad cycle. Thank you
Buy frozen !! They are just as healthy
Also with frozen veggies are all chopped up for yiu and ready to go
Your a great inspiration for the vegan community!
Ok thank you NOW I get it. I really don’t think I’ve heard anyone explain this so simply
I’m on my way … I will keep you posted on my journey 🥒🥦🥑
Love your message it seems like it will help many of us.
Clear points about losing weight..thank you Chelsea ❤
I have tried the 50/50 plate but struggled with being constantly hungry, example 3-4 pounds of potatoes and 4 cups of broccoli would last me maybe an hour before hunger set in again. After seeing McDougall say he wishes he never wrote the maximum weightloss book was my tipping point and I went back to starch solutions.
Thank you! From the bottom of my heart!
Hi Chelsea!
Thankyou for explaining so well. Now I know what to do and why it was so hard to make it work before. Thankyou 🙏😊!
Excellent video. Very informative. Thanks Chelsea! 😁
Thank you for being so real!
Tha is girl this was great and made perfect sense and made it more clear for me
A really, really good video! Thank you! 🌸
This will help me, I’m hoping this is exactly what I needed
Chealsea, I just love your videos. You are so on point.
Thanks for watching!
Air popped popcorn with just a bit of salt!
This is very informing:) good video!! A+
Very motivating. Thanks!
How do you prepare your veggies? Do you put anything on them? Just plain steamed broccoli? I do t think I could do that. Help’
I'm going to try this, thanks!! Where's the potato plan?
You look great! I want to have results like this!
Agree! How do you get over wanting to add sauces to your potatoes and veggies!
Get enough calories. Not enough the day before or exercising and not getting enough will make you crave fat or anything you can get easy calories from. Its about calorie density, not lowering your calories. Munch on fruit or veggies when preparing meals and bulk up on your starches, beans, ect.
And honestly salt and pepper is so good on broccoli..
And I never like broccoli. Its too easy that people don't think about it.
Thank you for sharing! This was helpful.
Thank you. This is very insightful.
Thanks, girl!!! Great information and inspiration!!! Love how real you are and thank you for sharing your personal story. xo
I think you were trying to say "epitome" 😂 But thank you so much for this! I'm encouraged!!Going to buy a crap load of veggies today.
