I just got one so I can more cleanly fill my Homo Sapiens without getting the section to absorb ink. Thanks for the cautionary example. Your tips should be able to help me avoid a similar fate.
Thanks for the review David. I don't think I'll buy one just yet. Turning the unit upside down with nothing but a thin rubber membrane between me and 5 mls of ink is a scary thought. :) Perhaps one day. Cheers!
I've had one of these for a few years but somehow, even before COVID, I ended up traveling a lot less than I used to so this never saw use! Recently, I was having a bit of trouble getting a good fill of Iroshizuko Yama Budo (running low in the bottle) in my TWSBI Vac 700R Iris and wondered if it would fit. Whaddya know? The Vac 700 was your demo pen! Perfect! Now I can get the last drops of that great ink into the Iris.
Thank you for sharing what could happen if not keeping check with a pressurized canister. May your sacrifice of ink not be in vain. Your video has absolutely convinced me to purchase one, thank you truly! Great review sir! ^^v
Thanks for this great review. I'm now going to have to get one. I'm sorry you had the accident, but thanks for including it. A good demo of potential problems. Oh and the Visconti blue is a nice looking blue. Sorry, I couldn't resist.
I have three (I know, I know) and love them. They hold Sailor and J Herbin inks where the bottles are a pain to use mainly, But what I do love about them is you get such a full fill. I'd say a fist-full . . . :) Sorry, couldn't resist, Are they cheap? No. Are they wonderfully made? Yes indeedy, By the way a Montblanc Classique is too slim to fit - my Pilot 92 is perfect as is my Sailor 911. And Kudos, David, for not saying a word much less a rude one when it all went horribly wrong.
I've considered the VTI but find it a product looking for a problem. Easier to travel with a bottle or cartridges - especially for the price. Quite a fun toy nonetheless. Thanks for the review.
Interesting and intriguing thing this inkwell. But for my use, for most of a time, I can have ink bottle with me. If not, I take cartridge pen and cartridges.
Good demonstration... well, both of them! The inkwell is 45€ here but it still is a premium price for such a simple gadget. Fortunately I have no problems carrying a bottle of ink with me and would rather spend the money on some ink instead. Either way, I did enjoy the video.
Yah...you just need to keep a firm grip on it until you are done. I was opening my hand to show how much it had filled, forgetting that it was exactly what you're not supposed to do with a piston/vacuum/power filler.
The end is why I will not buy one. When flying I take two cartridge pens and a few cartridges. When I get to the hotel, I put in a cartridge and I’m ready to go. Just before I go home I take the partly used cartridges and dispose of them. It’s so easy, and I don’t loose my temper and smash a good pen.
That "I'm a failure" sigh at the end. Priceless! But it was a great review, not a failure at all!
Thanks! :-)
I'm so glad you left that bit at the end
Not my finest moment...
Thanks for adding the blooper David! You're a brave man. :)
Thank you, David. And for the outtake.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for the example of what not to do, that actually helps too.

LOL! Love the out-take at the end! Nice review.
Love this video. The video is so good I thought the ink stains were on my monitor!
Ugh, the ending!! Thanks for the review!

12.57 demonstrates that the Visconti Traveling Inkwell is a high priced gimmick. Just use the 70usd to buy a few ink bottles.

IThanks for the review! Much appreciated. Have you had trouble with Piston fillers with this filler?
Not at all.
With a vacuum filler, pull out the rod BEFORE you insert the pen!

Would you be able to use a dip pen with it?
Good demonstration... well, both of them!

May I suggest wearing rubber gloves thinner the better!
I saw you, really opportunity moment. Exactly what happened to me with a Piston filler

Is the vac 700 a recent acquisition and will there be a review in the near future?
I've had it for a while...maybe about a year. Yes, it will be reviewed at some point.
Very cool t-shirt!
Thanks...it's from a very cool store in San Francisco called Paxton Gate.
greatest ending you've ever done. :-D
:-)
This inkwell air travel safe?
I have traveled with it with no issues. The lid is very secure.
