This video is a great example of how Goulet Pens can educate a customer even better and more efficiently than a bricks-and-mortar store. Amazingly well-done demonstration of the inkwell.
In 2023, this video has been viewed over 200,000 times. Brian would not be as enthusiastic seven years and two hundred thousand times later with this instruction.
I got lucky with mine. I bought the Visconti Homosapiens 25th Anniversary edition and it came with the Pen, Ink Pot, and two pen case. I thought it was a pretty good deal for the price I paid because the pen by itself cost as much as the package deal.
Compare it to viscountis pens and other accessories and the price isnt shocking. They are trying to make a prestegious pen brand, which while i dont agree with, marking up the price can do that. Also im sure they would have spent quite a long time designing and testing this pen, for a company that doesnt have as much volume as say pilot, they need to pay for the man hours somehow.
If fountain pens become as common place as i hope they do, that price won't have a choice but to drop. Unfortunately being niche often times means being way overpriced.
I got one and use it with the Visconti HS, bought it for around € 55,-- not cheap but totally worth it. One aspect not mentioned in the video, its safe for your nib, when filling out of a bottle you have a risk of damaging youre nib by accidently pushing it to the bottom. When allready buying rather expensive pens and inks, just throw in the extra for the pot, you wont regret it.
Haha, I just started the video, but as usual I'm checking comments as I listen. When I read this I laughed out loud. Now I've got to see what the heck you mean 😀 < unpauses the vid >
sorry to be so off topic but does someone know of a tool to log back into an instagram account?? I was stupid forgot the account password. I love any help you can offer me
@Peyton Greyson Thanks for your reply. I found the site thru google and im waiting for the hacking stuff atm. I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
Hi Brian. I got the ink pot this week and tried it on my Platinum Kanasawa. I used water (just like you but without the pretty "blue"), which is a great idea for getting comfortable with it. It works great. I'm flying in a few days and look forward to having this with me.
I've bought one of these a couple of years ago and I wouldn't want to miss it. Another argument for it is that it allows you to really completely use every last drop of your ink, whereas with a glas bottle it can be very difficult to take up the rest of the ink with the fountain pen, especially if it has a large nib like the Pelikan M800 or bigger. Btw is Visconti still (or again) producing the travelling inkwell? I thought they had discontinued it some years ago. I'm really glad to see you have it in your shop now.
you can substitute the blotting cotton with a cutted and rolled visconti blotting paper, that is better to use. btw, a great overview, as always. Don't forget that the password for Visconti products is: Elegance. With that patented Travelling Inkpot, you can refill your pen in every situation with elegance, without changing the pen or risking to spill a bottle of ink on the table. That is also a good way both to full fill your piston filler or vacuum filler pen, and to use till the last drop of your ink.
The most affective & affordable method for traveling inkwells is just an empty sample vial (www.gouletpens.com/goulet-empty-ink-sample-vials/p/GP-10006). TWSBI also makes some inkwells that could work for any pen, but really function best with TWSBI pens: www.gouletpens.com/twsbi-ink-bottles/c/249 - Colin
Excellent vid as usual. The ink pot is a great tool. You can fill your pen(s) without getting any ink on your hands. I believe the wiping device is wool?...which is used for small spills and for wiping the nib if needed. I don't find the section wet after using the ink pot. It does work with the Aurora Optima quite well. I received a second one which was included with the 25th anniversary edition of the Visconti Homo Sapiens Steel, piston filler. That set comes with the pen, the Visconti leather double pen case and an ink pot, all for the regular retail cost of the pen. Nice set if you can find one around! Another advantage of the ink pot is that it is made to fit in a pen pouch/case. :)
Just an idea, on your website, you can put another section on the information page for the pens listed that says "Compatible with Visconti Inkpot? Yes/No". That way you won't have to tell people not to rely on the grip measurements. It will require you to test more pens on the Inkpot, however, you will be giving your customers more information; therefore, making them more informed and happy customers. Just an idea. May not be worth it. But I know I would.
I don't own one, as the cost is my regular budget for a pen. But I've used one a few times and it works well. It's clearly not for everyone at that price point. But for those who buy Visconti and higher end pens like that, this cost isn't a big hurdle for them and they just want a product that works, which it does. - Colin
...and may I add, it would be an amazing Birthday/Anniversary present where you get something valuable to a fountain pen fanatic who knows the price of the item !
So - ask for it for Christmas or your birthday. I love my vacuum fill pens but I almost always use a pilot Metropolitan with cartridges simply out of convenience.
Great Video Brian, I have been researching this Visconti Traveling Inkwell and the TWSBI Vac 20 inkwell since I have a TWSBI Vac 700. Do you have any recommendations between those two options?
+John Jones The Vac 20A is the way to go (the Vac20 is discontinued, but it's very very similar). It is way cheaper than the Visconti and fits the Vac700 perfectly. If you mainly use the TWSBI then it's the way to go, but if you use a lot of others, then the Visconti would be better b/c it's more universal. -Brian Goulet
Hi, thanks for the informative and entertaining vid. I got a Stipula DaVinci and the way you tried to fill it wouldn't work. However, filling the DaVinci converter the recommended way is to remove the nib unit from the casing and then pit the nib into the well. I really would like to know if you can fill a DaVinci on the Visconti travel inkwell with the "blank" nib unit. Would you mind checking?
Unfortunately, we no longer carry Stipula brands, so we don't have the pen to check that for you. But the range is 9.2mm-13.2mm, so if you can measure the diameter of just the nib unit and converter, that should give you an answer. Most bare nib units end up being pretty thin and wouldn't work with this, similar to the Pilot VP. - Colin
For the thinner pens, like the vanishing point, the ink pot could probably be used like a standard ink bottle? Keep the ink pot vertical, dip in, fill, close?
Yeah, there's a whole bunch of blue inks available. I'm sure you're bound to find something that'll work. If you go to our Swab Shop (www.gouletpens.com/ink-comparison-tool) and then you can browse by color group (either Blue or Turquoise could work). - Colin
What a fabulous video about this inkwell. I have never understood how it works before now, and I never was sure it could be used with other pen brands. I think it must be able to fit my Aurora Optima, wouldn't you think? Hmm, now I feel this is going on my list for Santa.......
+The Goulet Pen Company Thanks, Brian! PS - I really like your hair like this. I remember when I first found your company, you had very short (shaved) hair, but now you have it much longer. It looks very good on you. Just wanted you to know :-)
this is a fantastic review of an ink well, ink pot, ink barrel whatever they want to call it ... such sleek design, btw all was great till i hear the price that was the TKO the real MAIN POINT !! for USD70 i can get all sorts of barrel container any shape, buy a couple more expensively unique inks, a top notch fountain pen, decent demonstrator or spare nibs !! Then again very nice tool does the job perfectly and surely helps Vacuum type pens glad to know.
Another gripe people have is it can only hold one ink, so it really only benefits one of your pens at a time. That is, if you don't like multiple pens inked up with the same ink like many people.
+Parsa Shamloo fair enough. but then any sample/bottle/cartridge only holds one ink at a time, so I guess I didn't think of it that much when shooting the vid. When I travel I'm more inclined to be heavy on one particular pen, and I just keep the other "backup" pens inked with whatever they have from home. -Brian Goulet
+The Goulet Pen Company yeah it's not my complaint, but I've heard it. The Traveling Ink Pot is definitely something I'd be buying if I traveled more. Question: How hard was it to pull out the Pilot Metro when it slipped past the rubber piece??
Hi, I currently have a problem with the pot. I accidentally pushed the pilot metropolitan a little too hard and now the grip is stuck inside the inkwell. Is there anyway to remove the grip from inside or is all hope is lost ?
+That Hanako (SporadicallyAwake) Yes, the Pilot Prera will work with this inkwell. The Pilot Metropolitan is about the smallest width that’ll work with it. - Colin
The Goulet Pen Company I made a whole research to find that color of ink.. but then I though I would find someone who asked u this question over here.. Pretty much disappointed😒😑
I was thinking this thing would help me getting a full filling of my pen or I can just carry my pen empty which makes the pen safe from air travel leaking but what if this inkwell would leak from air travel?
+Mike Howard in the video he says 149 is too big to fit in. But i see another type of this thing on a shopping website saying it is for 149. so i guess you can try to find one for 149.
We are currently only doing videos on products we carry. That's not one that we have, but there's a lot of great references on the Fountain Pen Network that might help on any questions you may have. - Colin
Hi Brian, I have been watching quite a lot of your videos and I kinda like the pen pouch that you have been using. The black pouch in this video (0:36). Can you tell me more about the pouch.
That's a Visconti leather pen holder. (www.gouletpens.com/visconti-leather-pen-cases/c/385) The one in the video is the 3 pen holder, but we only have the 2 and 12 in stock currently. But they're very functional and high quality. - Colin
I generally don't carry fountain pens but simple and cheap solution would to just use disposable cartridges. But I could see that actually ending up more costly than this portable device.
+The Goulet Pen Company Oh wow! I was thrown off because it looks so much larger than my Cross converter! Looks like it can hold quite a nice amount of ink!
+hunter maggs We don't carry that pen, so I don't know too much about it, but looking online it seems like it's diameter is 13mm, and the absolutely thickest it can be to fit in this is 13.2mm, so it'll be a tight squeeze. - Colin
It does depend a bit on the ink, but anything low maintenance (non-permanent/non-shimmer/etc), I think it's fine to keep in a pen a couple months. Beyond that, you'll run into some flow issues and makes cleaning much harder. I tend to clean my pens out once a month. - Colin
@@Gouletpens Hey Goulet, I know you probably won't see this comment. I just want to say thank you, I was talking about this pen for months and my parents got it for me as a graduation gift and I love it:) Just sending some love your way:D
TSA will probably become a little nervous too if you pull out a lab-like flask with blue liquid in it :D. Might work even better with a class 6 warning label on it. :D.
Oh yeah, I completely misread that, sorry! That's the Visconti Leather 3 Pen Holder. Unfortunately, we're out of stock on it at the moment, they have a couple other great pen cases (www.gouletpens.com/visconti-leather-pen-cases/c/385). - Colin
+Anzan Hoshin Roshi that's actually a good question. I haven't intentionally tried to stain it yet...I don't have a great answer for you there. -Brian Goulet
please tell me at 0:44 while he is putting the inkwell in the case which pen is the first pen the colorful one please answer me i want to buy even if it is more than $1000 please answer i beg everyone
The Goulet Pen Company Brother please check if there is any website from where i can buy that pen please tell me and whenever you want to sell that pen tell me i will think about that and please also tell me the price
necro but a the goulet pen company said in another comment it's food colouring. which is a type of ink i suppose if you want to be extremely particular about it :p
+moonpen It doesn’t have the same functionality of that, but our Goulet ink sample vials (www.gouletpens.com/gpc-inkvials/p/GPC-InkVials) make perfect travel sized inkwells. - Colin
Couldn't you still use a thin pen on this if u filled the traveling well fuller and used it like you would a bottle. Have it stand on a table and suck up ink
Then you won't be better off than if you got a cheap sample vial, which renders the selling points of this inkwell obsolete other than the presentation.
+hein myat The Regatta Sport should fit in this inkwell, but unfortunately we're out of stock. While it doesn't have the same functionality, our ink sample vials work great as traveling inkwells. (www.gouletpens.com/gpc-inkvials/p/GPC-InkVials) - Colin
+hein myat Hmmm yeah, it's kind of a moving target, because the grip actually gets wider as you move down the base of the pen. Just to be safe, I'd look into other traveling ink pots for now. Sorry for the confusion! - Colin
If I'm travelling I want to keep it simple. This looks like a lovely item, but if I'm travelling I don't think I want to be dealing with turning anything upside down that is containing ink 😁

I am watching for fun because it is so satisfying. 😊
I'm crossing my fingers and waiting for a Chinese manufacturer to step up and release their 'homage' to the travelling inkwell.
Nalgene 15ml bottles will do the job for 1$.
Have they done it yet?
Edit Twsbi also makes small inkwells now
I think penneider made one that is similar and costs i think 15 usd
Hey we’re still waiting 🤣🤣😂
$70 for a plastic tube with some rubber seals? The markup on this thing must be crazy high.
It's not a bargain, I'll admit. You pay for a pretty specific purpose but it does that very well. -Brian
i think the capacity would need to be higher. i.e. 30-50ml for it to be worth it.
Thank god it is just from Visconti, Montblanc would charge at least 200€ for it.
If fountain pens become as common place as i hope they do, that price won't have a choice but to drop. Unfortunately being niche often times means being way overpriced.

Diluted ink (85% water, 15% dark blue ink)

Thanks
Really useful video.
Speaking of unusual shapes the Pelikan Twist would not fit in there I guess
6:29 couldn't stop laughing at picturing that... Why do I feel like he's talking from experience? ( Like, he's def seen that happen before)
Actual cost for the traveling inkwell: $13 (not actually accurate)
The price for the name Visconti: $60
Definitely not worth it.
The cost is definitely steep, but it's a unique product that works really well. So for some, beyond the name, it's worth it. - Colin
The Goulet Pen Company
Sir, are you selling this product or just giving an honest review as a fountain pen fanatic?
I don't own one, as the cost is my regular budget for a pen. But I've used one a few times and it works well. It's clearly not for everyone at that price point. But for those who buy Visconti and higher end pens like that, this cost isn't a big hurdle for them and they just want a product that works, which it does. - Colin
...and may I add, it would be an amazing Birthday/Anniversary present where you get something valuable to a fountain pen fanatic who knows the price of the item !
Seth Perry It's not even a review, read the title.
that blue ink is beautiful
So - ask for it for Christmas or your birthday. I love my vacuum fill pens but I almost always use a pilot Metropolitan with cartridges simply out of convenience.
Great Video Brian, I have been researching this Visconti Traveling Inkwell and the TWSBI Vac 20 inkwell since I have a TWSBI Vac 700. Do you have any recommendations between those two options?

fountain pens and lego technic in the background! I like the way you roll. :)
Brian is a man of many interesting but legos and fountain pens are top of the list! - Colin
Do you know if vintage vacuum fillers such as the Sheaffer Snorkel or Parker Vacumatic would work?
+The Gatorboy We don't know for sure since we don't have those pens in stock to try it out. Sorry about that. -Margaret
Great video! I have a Homo Sapien so it was super useful to see the tricks for that pen
@11:30 Thank you!
What is that 3 pen carrying case you have? I've been looking for one but can't find a decent quality one anywhere. Thanks!
- Colin
+The Goulet Pen Company Thanks for the numbers. Checked and the nib unit has a diameter of 10mm, so that should work.
Oh yeah, that's thicker than I thought. Should work! - Colin
For pens that are to small, could you just not invert the well?
the pull out game is strong in you
Please make a video on vintage flex fountain pens
For the thinner pens, like the vanishing point, the ink pot could probably be used like a standard ink bottle? Keep the ink pot vertical, dip in, fill, close?
Yeah, that's true. But it's a $70 ink pot at that point, an empty ink vial could do a similar job. - Colin
Will the twsbi mini fit???
What kind of ink did you use in the video? Are there any other brands that you carry with a color such as that one?
It's actually just water and a bit of dye for the purposes of this video. Much easier to clean than actual ink. - Colin
The Goulet Pen Company oh, makes sense! Does Goulet sell any inks that are light or bright blue?
Yeah, there's a whole bunch of blue inks available. I'm sure you're bound to find something that'll work. If you go to our Swab Shop (www.gouletpens.com/ink-comparison-tool) and then you can browse by color group (either Blue or Turquoise could work). - Colin
The Goulet Pen Company thank you

Just saying, top notch fountain pens are way more than $70, lol. Sorry if I'm late to the party.
Can anyone please tell me what is the ink he used ? I love it & have been searching for a long time

what kind of ink did you use in the video the color looks cool
I was wondering the same thing. Seems to be in a Noodler's Bottle ... I think it might be Noodler's Lightning Blue Ink
Hate to break it to you, but it's just water with some coloring in it. Much easier to clean up than using an actual ink. - Colin
The Goulet Pen Company I made a whole research to find that color of ink.. but then I though I would find someone who asked u this question over here.. Pretty much disappointed😒😑
Damn just water and ink
Well anyway still a cool color lol
Is this inkwell air travel safe? Also can u even pass the security with this filled with ink?
I was thinking this thing would help me getting a full filling of my pen or I can just carry my pen empty which makes the pen safe from air travel leaking but what if this inkwell would leak from air travel?
Will a montblanc 149 work with it? Could you address your opinions about montblanc why you don't carry their pens or even their ink? I'm very curious!
Watch the video, he uses one with it
+Mike Howard in the video he says 149 is too big to fit in. But i see another type of this thing on a shopping website saying it is for 149. so i guess you can try to find one for 149.
He says it will work but anything bigger is pushing the limits :D
Ah, Brian. You make me want all the things. Great video!

To the one that comes on the pen, standard length. -Brian
+The Goulet Pen Company Oh wow! I was thrown off because it looks so much larger than my Cross converter! Looks like it can hold quite a nice amount of ink!
Do you think a jinhao 8812 would fit?
+hunter maggs We don't carry that pen, so I don't know too much about it, but looking online it seems like it's diameter is 13mm, and the absolutely thickest it can be to fit in this is 13.2mm, so it'll be a tight squeeze. - Colin
Expensive ink pens do you keep them full or empty of ink?
It does depend a bit on the ink, but anything low maintenance (non-permanent/non-shimmer/etc), I think it's fine to keep in a pen a couple months. Beyond that, you'll run into some flow issues and makes cleaning much harder. I tend to clean my pens out once a month. - Colin
What about the Lamy 2000?
Yep, the 2000 fits this just fine! - Colin
@@Gouletpens Hey Goulet, I know you probably won't see this comment. I just want to say thank you, I was talking about this pen for months and my parents got it for me as a graduation gift and I love it:) Just sending some love your way:D
@13:39 it's like an infomercial!
that great watch again !!!
will this work with the karas kustoms ink?
Yep, both Karas Kustoms pens should work with this inkwell. - Colin
thanks :)
Does it work with the lamy 2000?
Yes, the LAMY 2000 does fit! - Colin
Would it work with dip pen?
Most dip pens should fit in there. - Drew
@@Gouletpens thank you 👍
TSA will probably become a little nervous too if you pull out a lab-like flask with blue liquid in it :D. Might work even better with a class 6 warning label on it. :D.
And how many times does it fill your pen
It depends on the pen. It holds 5.5ml of ink, so that's like 4-5 fills with a cartridge/converter pen for example. - Colin
NEVER got a MAX fill with my cartridge converter
Does this work with a Pilot Custom Heritage 912?
Yes it does, and you can get a tip top full filling on it- Brian
@ caution for vacuum pen: I had vision of a writing group, meeting in a cafe, and trying out "this new gizmo"...
What's wrong with just carrying the normal bottle or using a metal watertight bottle? Seems expensive for a bottle and more messy.
Sorry this question is quite late, but does this work with a Custom 823?
What is the pen case that appears on screen at 0:37?
That's a Visconti Homo Sapiens on the right and a Visconti Divina on the left (www.gouletpens.com/visconti-divina/c/544). - Colin
Hey Colin, just saw your reply - I was asking more about the case that they're in rather than the pens themselves, though :-)
Oh yeah, I completely misread that, sorry! That's the Visconti Leather 3 Pen Holder. Unfortunately, we're out of stock on it at the moment, they have a couple other great pen cases (www.gouletpens.com/visconti-leather-pen-cases/c/385). - Colin
What ink are you using in this video?
That was just water with some blue food coloring. Easier to clean out! - Colin
Can a lamy 2000 work?
Yep, fits perfectly! - Colin
What about staining?
+Anzan Hoshin Roshi that's actually a good question. I haven't intentionally tried to stain it yet...I don't have a great answer for you there. -Brian Goulet
please tell me at 0:44 while he is putting the inkwell in the case which pen is the first pen the colorful one please answer me i want to buy even if it is more than $1000 please answer i beg everyone
That's a Visconti Millenium Arc. Not sure of the particular color, but it's no longer available. You might be able to find it second hand. - Colin
The Goulet Pen Company Thanks Alot Brother Love You because having more than 50k subscribers no one has answered me
The Goulet Pen Company just because you are a great man you replied me you hot a new subscriber and 908th like of this video
The Goulet Pen Company Brother please check if there is any website from where i can buy that pen please tell me and whenever you want to sell that pen tell me i will think about that and please also tell me the price
and tell me if the faber castell ambition is good i want to buy
ink rockets are fun. what are you talking about?
+cosmichemistry haha, okay, I probably overstated the rocketness of it! It doesn't actually "shoot" off the pen.... -Brian Goulet
+Book And Pen I think it is ink mixed with water for demonstration purposes only. It looks too "watery" to be purely ink in my opinion.
necro but a the goulet pen company said in another comment it's food colouring. which is a type of ink i suppose if you want to be extremely particular about it :p
Yes. Amodex is the enemy of comedy.
Could there be a cheaper alternative? perhaps less luxury
+moonpen It doesn’t have the same functionality of that, but our Goulet ink sample vials (www.gouletpens.com/gpc-inkvials/p/GPC-InkVials) make perfect travel sized inkwells. - Colin
Helpful and informative video, thanks. I'll probably get this from Goulet, but sorry in advance if I get the Visconti pen from eBay!!
Can I ask why you'd get the pen from eBay? -Brian
+The Goulet Pen Company Like buying a used sports car, I'd get one used for a reasonable (justifiable?) price.
+FlamingDovahkiin ah, fair enough! -Brian
Couldn't you still use a thin pen on this if u filled the traveling well fuller and used it like you would a bottle. Have it stand on a table and suck up ink
Then you won't be better off than if you got a cheap sample vial, which renders the selling points of this inkwell obsolete other than the presentation.
Please can someone tell me which ink is he using?
It's just water with some dye in it. Make things a lot easier to clean out. - Colin
Will TSA allow this in carry-on?
Yes, with 5.5mL of ink, that's below the TSA limit for liquids. You should be fine. - Colin
Could someone recommend me a travelling ink pot like the one in the video but for a Monteverde Regatta Sport?
+hein myat The Regatta Sport should fit in this inkwell, but unfortunately we're out of stock. While it doesn't have the same functionality, our ink sample vials work great as traveling inkwells. (www.gouletpens.com/gpc-inkvials/p/GPC-InkVials) - Colin
But it's diameter is 8.9 mm, the video shows pens with a diameter of 9.2 mm having a bit of trouble fitting. If it fits, I will very likely get it.
+hein myat Hmmm yeah, it's kind of a moving target, because the grip actually gets wider as you move down the base of the pen. Just to be safe, I'd look into other traveling ink pots for now. Sorry for the confusion! - Colin
Thank you Colin. :)
+The Goulet Pen Company Could you also explain to be what posted and unposted for a pen means?
Is it glass or plastic? I've seen comments that it is plastic. If it is glass, $70 is reasonable, but if it is plastic, not so much.
Oh geeze, it's $70. I think I'll stick to my Goulet Pens sample vials for refilling my stuff on the go.
+Yanling Li Fair enough...this won't be for everyone. -Brian Goulet
Your videos should be renamed "Everything you need to know about fountain pens but didn't know to ask."
If I'm travelling I want to keep it simple. This looks like a lovely item, but if I'm travelling I don't think I want to be dealing with turning anything upside down that is containing ink 😁
If it were 20 dollars Id own one already. At 70 there's zero chance of me ever getting one.
The real question is: will it ever be available again?
They back in-stock now! (www.gouletpens.com/visconti-traveling-inkpot/p/VI-533 ) - Colin
Nice review as usual... sorry...but it sounds complicated especially on trips 😐
Anybody taken one of these into an airplane enough times to know if there is a risk of the cap popping off in flight?
