Xylitol-gum was invented in Finland in the 70's, after discovering that it prevents cavities. Everyone chews it here, since childhood we are recommended to chew xylitol after eating.

Nope. It had been used by French and Germans since the second world war but was researched by Finns in the '70s. But yes, it has been a big thing in Finland for several decades now and I'm surprised this is news in America.

She's really an interesting lady. Ellie does have a specific several-step program anybody can check out here on you tube that involves OTC toothpaste and oral rinses which you do twice a day and chewing the gum or the mints several times a day after meals. She's done studies and written books. I understand she now lives in Austin, Texas. I'm waiting for my local library to call me when they get the "Kiss Your Dentist Goodbye" book that she wrote years ago; couldn't find a copy locally, and I hate buying books unless I can check them out first. I've used the CloSys mouthwash alone for years and have managed to talk myself out of those deep cleanings most hygienists these days like to push. Actually, it was a dentist I saw years ago who did recommend CloSys, but she was the only one I've ever been to that even mentioned that mouthwash and was surprised and impressed that it worked on me, lol.

1:34 to 1:48 is exactly what everyone should do. I been doing it for years, and I learnt and am still learning so much about so many things. Even though some of those things aren't my "field" , I still end up knowing things that the doctor for example won't know. I will make suggestions that end up working lol. Ppl don't realize, you have the internet for a reason. You can learn so much. If you know how to research properly. You need to look at many sources, many articles, STUDIES as well, and research papers if you really want to dig in. When you are learning something in school, you really have 1 source, your teacher, and whoever the author of book is. But if you take things into your own hands, you can actually learn a lot more than you think you can. And telling you all the truth, dentists doctors psychiatrists etc... they really don't know everything. A lot of them don't do that research that we can do and find out new things. I've probably given better suggestions and advice to them on what I should do. Not trying to sound cocky or arrogant, just want you all to know, do you research. And think for yourself as well. Don't just listen to wtvr your doc says and follow

I'm in dental school so I'll ellaborate a little. When she said she got TMJ what she meant to say is TMD. TMJ stands for TemporoMandibular Joint which is the joint that connects the jaw to the skull. TMD stands for any disorder of the TMJ. Excessive gum chewing is potential cause. TMD can manifest multiple ways one of them being jaw clicking that Dr. Patrick had. TMJ problems can also cause headaches, so if you suffer from frequent headaches you may want to look into jaw problems you may have.
Basically the xylitol reversed her cavities by killing off the acid producing bacteria which allowed her teeth to remineralize. Usually by a certain point of decay remineralization is not likely but it seems her excessive gum chewing helped. Her remineralization would have been better had she maintained her fluoride in her toothpaste and her water. During tooth remineralization, fluoride gets incorporated into the teeth making them stronger than they are naturally. I don't know what the fluoride level is in the water in her community. So long as its 0.7ppm I dont think it would have been an issue even based on the study she sited (yes i read it). Still even if she was worried she should have still used fluoride toothpaste as long as she doesnt eat the toothpaste. Fluoride just like salt is a mineral, that occurs naturally in natural water sources and certain foods. Everything in moderation

I've not had a cavity since that time. I've not had "tooth sensitivity" either. It's incredibly great. I combine chewing Spry and rinsing my mouth with Walmart's "Equate." #2: caries is very difficult to reverse so I question the degree of decay Rhonda had initially
#3: It is call pregnancy gingivitis or Periodontits when you get gum disease while pregnant it has also shown to cause a 20%lower birth rate in newborns due to chronic inflammation in the mothers system!

Dentist here. Trident Vibes gum is sweetened with Xylitol and tastes great. I chew it everyday. Helps fight cavities. Not a cure-all but helps fight tooth decay. Enamel tooth decay can be reversed with Flouride, but once it’s broken through to the Dentin layer, it needs to be removed and restored or you’ll end up with toothaches and abscesses.

Xylitol is a naturally occurring sugar alcohol found in small amounts in certain fruits and vegetables, including berries, corn, and birch trees. It is primarily produced commercially from two sources:
Corn cobs: Corn cobs are the most common source of xylitol due to their abundance and cost-effectiveness.
Birch wood: This was the traditional source before the shift to corn-based production.
    How Xylitol Is Processed:
Extraction: If sourced from corn, the xylan, a hemicellulose in the corn cobs, is extracted. For birch, the same process applies to its wood fibers. This involves a series of chemical steps to break down the plant material.
Hydrolysis: The extracted xylan is hydrolyzed (broken down) into xylose, a simple sugar.
Catalytic Hydrogenation: The xylose is then hydrogenated to convert it into xylitol, a sugar alcohol.
Purification: The xylitol is purified and crystallized to produce the sweetener.
Why Xylitol Can Be Bad for You:
Toxic to Dogs: Xylitol is highly toxic to dogs, even in small amounts. It causes a rapid release of insulin, leading to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), which can be fatal if not treated quickly. It can also lead to liver damage in dogs.
Digestive Issues in Humans: While xylitol is generally safe for human consumption, consuming it in large amounts can lead to digestive problems. Sugar alcohols like xylitol are not fully absorbed in the digestive system, leading to fermentation by gut bacteria, which can cause:
    Bloating
    Gas
    Diarrhea
Impact on Blood Sugar: Xylitol has a lower glycemic index than sugar, so it doesn’t spike blood sugar levels in the same way. However, overconsumption may still affect people with diabetes or those sensitive to sugar substitutes.
Overall, xylitol is considered safe for humans in moderate amounts and is often used as a sugar substitute in sugar-free products like gum and candy due to its dental benefits (it reduces cavities). However, it poses serious risks to dogs and can cause digestive discomfort when consumed excessively.

When the "bad" bacteria in the mouth feeds on sugar, it produces an excrement that sticks to teeth and erodes them. Those bacteria will also attempt to digest xylitol but since it can't metabolize it, the xylitol starves the bacteria.
I add 1/2 teaspoon of birch xylitol to 2 cups of (boiled and cooled) water and use it in my neti pot. Helps with bacteria in the sinuses!

Yup. I don't think the antibacterial effects of xylitol are responsible for
Dr Patrick's reversal of her cavities. Xyltiol is known to increase bone
mineralization - likely through binding of sweet taste receptors on
osteoblasts and/or osteoclasts. I expect it can do the same for teeth
through similar a mechanism. There are also sweet taste receptors in the
brain and I have noticed a negative impact on my Boggle scores when I
      consume it for extended
      periods. www.hindawi.com/journals/nri/2015/606479/

I'd like to believe it's all xylitol, but I think her pregnancy is important to note here. Her dental visits were right before and after the pregnancy and women typically adjust their diet when they're pregnant to support their baby. The way she immediately cut out fluoride suggests that she was determined to do everything right by her baby, so I can only imagine that she (some kind of nutritionist lady) was also consuming an incredibly nutrient-dense diet during her pregnancy. She mentioned eating a lot of sautéed kale. I'm sure the xylitol helped, but I think her diet would've played an important role too. I wish we could find out more about what she ate during that time!

I am a Joe Rogan's personal dentist And I highly recommend DMT products. DMT is a naturally occurring sugar (not created or invented by a chemist) found in birch trees. DMT works by decreasing the number of decay causing bad bacteria in your mouth over time (Streptococcus mutans), which in turn leads to a reduction in the risk of future tooth decay. In effect what happens is that the bad bugs cannot metabolize absorbed DMT and it “clogs up their system” which leads to their starvation and death. These bad bacteria get replaced by good bacteria. It does not reverse existing tooth decay. In addition DMT has 40% less calories than regular sugar and a Glycemic Index of 7. This makes it extremely safe for use by diabetics trying to control their blood sugar. I have my elderly parents use DMT mints as part of a regiment to help prevent tooth decay.
Epic and Spry are brands that sell DMT gums and mints online and in some health food stores. Ice Breaker Ice Cube gum also has a high DMT concentration and is sold in most major stores and supermarkets in the U.S. Between 5 grams to 10 grams of DMT is needed daily to have a therapeutic dose, therefore most gums (Ice Breaker Ice Cube is an exception) you see in the checkout counter do not have enough DMT to be effective. If you chew gum, I would recommend switching to DMT gum instead. Epic brand, Spry brand, and Ice Breaker Ice Cube gum have 1 gram of DMT per piece. If you make it a habit of chewing two pieces of gum after every meal, you will get the recommended daily therapeutic dose of 6 grams.
Chewing gums is proven effective but the risk is developing TMJ (jaw joint) pain (like she described). Due to this issue, I recommend DMT mints. DMT Mints by Epic and Spry have 0.5 gram a piece. I am not aware of any DMT mints carried by a major U.S. store. The mints need to be purchased online unless there happens to be a health food store around your area that carries it. To get a therapeutic dose with the mints; use 4 mints (let them dissolve one at a time because DMT needs a total contact time in the mouth of 5 minutes to be effective) after every meal three times per day.
Beyond 10 grams of DMT per day can lead to the development of digestive problems (gas, bloating, and diarrhea) for a few, but the majority of people don’t have this complication. If you don’t experience digestive problems with DMT , then you can use the gum or mints as often as you like.
Please be aware DMT is extremely toxic to dogs. Even small amounts (one 0.5 gram mint) of DMT can cause hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), seizures, liver failure or even death to small dogs. One gram (two mints or one piece of gum) can be fatal to regular sized dogs. If you think your dog may have eaten a product containing DMT , call your vet, emergency clinic, or animal poison control center right away.
