      Hi, thanks 😀👍
      You can add the fx before recording, turn on monitoring (icon bottom left of screen) and hear the fx as you record.
      You will need to use headphones (or an alternative using the phone's headphones socket) to switch on monitoring and, depending on your phone (and how you connect your guitar), there will be some latency (lag) to the monitor output.
      Using my a22 android phone and the splitter cable method for my guitar, I find the latency is good enough to be barely noticeable.

      Hi, thanks 😀👍
      You don't need to wear the headphones during recording, unless you want to hear the other recorded tracks (or the metronome) while you record your guitar.
      However, if you are using a splitter cable, the headphones usually have to be plugged into the splitter cable for the splitter cable to work properly (even if you don't actually wear them).

    You missed one that I used to do. Guitar into an amp modeling pedal ( although your little amp can also work ) into the microphone input. The only bad thing is you're stuck with the sound going in, by stuck I mean if you use gain and reverb you can't remove it.

      The irig has a trrs connector (3 plastic rings) so should be connected directly to the 3.5mm headset socket. Splitter cables are designed for trs connectors (2 plastic rings).
      For a splitter cable to work, a mic must be connected to the splitter before the splitter cable is connected to the 3.5mm headset socket. The headset socket only tests for a mic when the splitter cable is plugged in.

      It could be your ports, try cleaning them out, buy compressed air and clean them throughly, if you can try changing most of the plugins you use, such as cables he was using in the videos. There can be many factors, try eliminating as much as you can and if nothing ends up working it may be time for a new guitar.

      @michaelistoma8356
      Assuming your phone supports audio over OTG (not all phones do)...
      Start a bandlab project, then plug your audio interface into the OTG cable and then plug the OTG cable into your phone. A popup message should appear in BandLab saying it detected a USB input.
      Now add a guitar track and record.
      Bandlab only uses one input, so the audio interface automatically replaces the phone microphone as the input. Bandlab does not show which audio input it is using so the audio interface will not show up in BandLab (unless it has midi, then it will appear as the midi input on the settings screen).

    I want to put down one recording of guitar then with a different sound and tone play the first recording and record a second part over the top. My effects and tone are covered externally using my multi effects pedal which goes into my iRig interface and into my iPhone. So what I am struggling with is recording over the top of something. I set up another channel or track underneath the first recording but I can’t get it to play guitar 1 while recording guitar 2 over it. Either guitar 2 overwrites it completely or I have to try and record 2 afterwards then try drag it into place which is a nightmare. I hoped to just hit record and play the chord pattern first. Stop, back to the start, set up channel for second layer, then hit record to play the chords while I record a little melody over the top. It is so much easier to record over it when it’s playing as well if u get me.

      Hi, it is an app called BandLab, which is a free app available on the Google play store and Apple store. You can record up to 16 tracks (one at a time), so yes you can record your guitar on one track then add a second track and record a guitar solo that will play at the same time as the first guitar track. You can also add virtual instruments tracks or tracks with audio samples, so you can things like drums and bass guitar to your recording too.

    I tried using an maudio air interface with bandlab on my phone and all my bass tracks are clicky and cut in and out. Tried both the bass setting and audio setting in band lab and my bass just sounds bad through both.

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  Год назад

      CrossContam
      Hi, I'm assuming you are recording the bass through the maudio air, so first just make sure the red clipping light is not coming on (on the maudio air) while you are recording and listen to the input through headphones monitor to make sure the input sound is clean. Also, watch the master volume level meter in bandlab (on the main mixer settings screen) and make sure the volume line always stays green and the right end of the volume line doesn't go red.
      Otherwise the problem maybe to do with the fact that the maudio air is designed for connecting to a computer rather than a phone or tablet. So possible issues include...
      Not enough power supplied by the phone to run the maudio air properly
      A problem with the otg or camera adapter cable
      The default buffer size is too small
      Some audio interfaces have been known to have problems with recording bass guitar
      If you have access to a computer, try recording your bass guitar to the online (pc browser) version of BandLab. Projects saved on the online version are shared with the phone app version, so you would be able to open the saved online version on your phone and see if the bass tracks still have a problem.

      Akbar Hartman
      Hi, the fx are post recording so won't affect the actual recording. To here the fx live, turn on the headphones monitor. For guitar use the ST Chorus and the Spring Reverb (in that order) as the other chorus fx will be too weak to be noticeable.

  • @cute1942
    @cute1942 10 месяцев назад

    Can I also add distortion fx to my guitar to record bandlab on mobile?

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  10 месяцев назад

      @cute1942
      The bandlab app has some distortion fx that can be added to your recording, and with a bit of tinkering can be made to sound okay.
      A distortion pedal would probably work okay too. Some amps have USB audio so you should be easily able to record amp fx like distortion over USB audio (if your phone supports USB audio). And amp or pedal distortion fx could be easily record through an audio interface.

    I bought a splitter cable, and when I try to use it, my phone records through its built in mic. Is there any way to prevent this?

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  Год назад +2

      D Pierson
      Hi, phones check for an external mic only when the cable jack is plugged in, so always connect in this order... Plug mic into splitter cable, plug headphones into splitter cable, then plug splitter cable into phone heatset socket.
      Also, make sure the splitter cable is a headphones/mic splitter and not a audio left/right splitter. The splitter jack must be a trrs jack (three plastic rings, usually black, on the metal part of the jack). The headphones jack and the microphone jack must both be trs Jack's (two plastic rings). The microphone must be a condenser microphone that uses the low volt (3.5 to 5v) phantom power of the phone.

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  11 месяцев назад

      @-lemon_poppity-199
      Hi, first make sure the splitter cable is a mic/headphone splitter cable with a TRRS jack (the jack should have 3 plastic rings).
      Then connect up in this exact order... connect the guitar lead to the guitar, connect the guitar lead to the splitter cable end with the microphone icon, connect the headphones to the end with the headphones icon. Then connect the splitter trrs jack to your phone. The splitter must be connected to the phone last or the guitar will not be detected (phone jack sockets only detect when the jack is plugged in, there is no constant active detection).
      Standard guitar pickups should be detected, active pickups may not be detected and cables from guitar amps don't usually work either.

      Hi, first check the irig is working, so add a guitar track in BandLab, then plug the irig into your phones 3.5mm headset socket. The headphone icon in BandLab (bottom left of the screen) should now have a white circle background to show it detected the irig.
      Now, plug your headphones into the irig and play your song. You should hear your song through the headphones.
      Next, plug a guitar cable into the irig, then plug the other end into your guitar. You should hear a buzz sound when the jack is going into the guitar jack socket.
      Now play your guitar, you should be able to hear your guitar through the headphones.
      The irig 2 has two jack sockets, so it is possible to accidentally plug the guitar cable into the wrong one.

      @@IbandUK so I tried it out and it's not really recording it cleanly? Is it supposed to record directly from what you're playing on the guitar or am I using my phone speaker to capture the sound

    • @IbandUK
      @IbandUK  Год назад

      @elliewilliams1137
      Plug a lead into your guitar and the other end into the mic input on the splitter cable, then plug headphones into the headphones input on splitter cable, then plug the splitter cable into the 3.5mm socket on your phone. It needs to be done in that order to work properly.
      There are some cheaply made splitter cables on the market that do not work very well but as long as you have a good quality splitter cable, it should record cleanly.

      First, connect guitar directly to audio interface and try recording, to see if the noise is from the fx.

      @TFFSRAD
      Connect the guitar to the splitter cable mic input, connect headphones (or a guitar amp aux input) to the splitter cable headphones input. Then connect the splitter cable to an OTG cable (Android) or camera adapter (IPhone). Then connect the OTG or camera adapter to your phone.
      Connection must be in this exact order and the guitar must be connected directly to the splitter cable mic input (using a suitable cable), you can't connect the guitar amp to the splitter cable mic input.

    Cable splitter method not working :(

    • @IbandUK

      Caleb Enriquez
      Hi, first, make sure it is a mic / headphones splitter cable and not a headphones / headphones splitter cable (one of the split sockets should be marked with a microphone icon).
      Next, make sure you connect the guitar cable to the guitar first, then connect it to the splitter cable, then connect your headphones, and finally connect the splitter cable to your phone. It has to be done in this exact order to ensure your phone detects the guitar (mic input).
      Next, use a stereo 3.5mm cable for your guitar cable and a stereo 1/4 inch jack adapter. The plugs have to be trs plugs to pass the signal to the correct input on your phone. The cable also has to connect directly to your guitar (no fx pedals etc) to be detected.
      If it still does not work, check the splitter cable with a mic (camera style condenser mic) to make sure the splitter cable works with your phone.

    I see you are not playing along with a track, else you would have latency that throws off your playing tempo. It's that why you slowed at the @6:11 take?

      @twistedwired
      HI, in this video I wanted to show clearly the sound quality of each method, so yes, I wasn't playing along to a track. I admit the slow at 6.11 was just the way I chose to play the guitar. My channel has a tutorial video of how I setup the correct latency offset and I always turn off the headphones monitor (as it just creates a horrible echo), so I genuinely don't have any latency issues in BandLab.

    The problem whit bandlab recording a guitar is when you use any of the guitar effect you get massive FEEDBACKS and if you can recording Whit the effects you loosing the ability is a artist to create you can add the effects after but never during recording no one is talking about this no videos about and the reasons is they can fix it so be ware before start using band lab on a phone or tablets also there server's are really over loaded this BS of only be able to used on line and using there servers is becoming a serious problem like in the middle of a recordings they stop freeze and when can back you job is other gone or parts missing so is free but all ways save every 20 or 30 minutes otherwise good luck onest better if they just sale it to you and let you be in control

      Personally I haven't had any feedback problems but I do use professional headphones and keep the recording volume quite low. Latency when trying to record guitar with fx added to the track is a big problem though.
      I recommend saving a project every time you record a new track.

    Great video - nice and clearly explained! However, I've been trying to find a method of getting guitar into BandLab on Android wirelessly, and that's not something you covered here.
    I realise that Bluetooth is difficult to use in this context due to its innate latency, but some of the latest incarnations (eg APTX) have cut that latency down considerably. It's just trying to get my head around the actual gear to use that's stumping me! How, for example, can you pair the phone with a Bluetooth APTX device which would allow you to plug a guitar into it AND have that guitar transmitted on the Bluetooth mic channel back to the phone?
    I can see that using an audio interface, as explained here, would then allow an alternative approach, ie the addition of a traditional guitar wireless radio system to replace the physical cable between the guitar and that interface, but that's a lot of gear...and I'm trying to keep the solution as simple as possible.
    Any suggestions?

      It's an interesting idea. There are quite a few Bluetooth audio transmitters on Amazon, so I might grab one and see I can hook it up to my phone.

      @@IbandUK the ideal (which may be completely unattainable at this point in time) would be to have a smallish rechargeable bluetooth APTX widget you'd plug into the quarter inch jack on the guitar, which could then be paired with the phone via the usual Bluetooth method. The widget might also feature a headphone jack for monitoring. Cloud cuckoo land probably! 😁

      Yeah you're trying to do too much with way too little man at a certain point you just got to buy equipment I mean Bluetooth and recording I don't I can't even process that even you know even doing it through the phone is a little bit ridiculous and it shouldn't sound very good but at a certain point someone just needs to get a laptop and spent $150 at Guitar Center and get you know a cheap Studio setup
