This has been the most helpful video I've watched. I've literally watched over 100 videos trying to figure out how to video and audio record my acoustic only to be lost and confused at the end. Now I need to figure out how to use my Audioone software properly. Thanks a lot
I’ve watched like 8 of these type of videos. Yours is the only one to actually explain it correctly and without being some long blather that just leaves the viewer more confused. Sending ya a beer 🍻 for sure
Gianni, thank you and SO glad to hear this helped you!! This stuff can be very confusing (and frustrating) as you know! So I'm glad this helped! I also have a blog post going into this as well that may go a little deeper: www.jasonstallworth.com/sync-audio-with-video-guitar/
Man, I'm glad this video was on my feed. I've been trying to understand the how to sync and post. I appreciate the mentoring. I know I'm three years late - ha.
If you press record on the video and audio then tap your strings four times you get 4 little spikes in the waveform. Just zoom in a bit on your video editor and drag one along thill they align. No messing about to see if you got it right. Zoom in to the smallest increment and you cant go wrong. You can buy me a beer! ;-)
@@jasonstallworth if one wants to record video from 2 or 3 different camera angles and have the video switching the angles through the song, is that much more complicated to sync?
Gimme that Arch Enemy shirt!!! Great tips. I've got like 6 years experience syncing audio and video from my old gaming channel, so it's pretty easy for me to sync guitar videos at this point. Just need to focus on performing better lol. Also, I don't consider it cheating if you are playing along with your own recording. That's what bands have been doing in music videos for years.
Lol...never, dude, it's all mine!!! I actually bought this at their show in 2017 in Orlando with Trivium. Killer show. Yeah, the more you do this stuff, it eventually becomes 2nd nature. And you nailed it..that's pretty much how bands shot music videos!
I've heard that doing a pick scrape or some random (but loud) percussive sound in the beginning of the recording helps serve as a marker for where to sync the audio and the video! Super helpful, man. This was great.
Yeah, that was done probably by accident! lol I usually just line up the waves from each file...you see in both files where the music starts as it will peak.
Great to hear that!! Man, I actually have a metal rhythm guitar course that has a bonus course of riff/songwriting that you might want to check out (and the riffs in the course will definitely help boost your ideas): www.jasonstallworth.com/courses/
In iMovie you just place the file on top of the other. I don't know how much more you can do in iMovie as it's a bit limited. I'll soon be upgrading to Final Cut Pro
Cool...I'm thinking getting one of those Zoom recorded to connect to the board, or I may upgrade to a PreSonus board that allows for easy direct recording
Dude, yeah, sometimes you find them in the strangest places! Was at a gig Saturday night and realized I only had one pick, which is weird. Fortunately I had several in my car at the bottom of the drink holders!
Good stuff, just what I was looking for. I use Studio One, and IMovie, and I just started recording myself for RUclips. Definitely don't like the sound of the internal mic on camera, especially when I have good recording mic's to record. Just wasn't sure about how to sync the two. I did what you described, so this video was a conformation that I was on the right path..Thanks for the tutorial and keep on Rock'in in the free world..
Super helpful, I was trying to record a cover for the solo of Courtesy of the red white and blue to post on the 4th but my iPhone mic wasn't doing the trick.

I have Mac desktop with M1 chip , and garage band . Interface I have also and some good mics … looks difficult to line up the audio with the video. I must try this. I love your channel. You’re awesome thank you.
The line up isn’t too bad because you’ll see where the audio waves start in both files. I’m getting an M1 or M2 soon…my 2013 iMac just completely crashed
I'm trying to do the same with drums. Yesterday I failed syncing my drums w/video. I'll try doing exactly what you're doing here. I was having trouble moving my video to match audio. Fail. Hopefully I'll have better luck today. Thanks for making this video
Great video. I'm really new to this and just bought a Focusrite Scarlett Solo and trying to make videos of me playing bass guitar to songs. I think I get the process you described here. My issues is if Im using headphones is the process the same for syncing the audio and video, because I can't hear the audio in the video section when I sync it to the audio file. I have some A5+ speakers but I don't want to use them as studio monitors, its a pain to switch them around (and Im afraid to damage them with the bass) I wish I could use my bass amp as a studio speaker, but not sure if I can or how. I may end up investing into some studio speakers (I don't like clutter) Im sure that would solve the issue.. but any tips in the meantime.
I definitely encourage you to get studio monitors but for now, just do like a 1-2-3 pick partner or something so that you have that motion to align with the audio
