This upload was three years ago but just giving praise and a thanks because that bass groove brought me back to life after a long 9 day hiatus trip where I was starved of creativity.
You probably not gonna read this, but back in 2013, for the first time I saw your muse cover, Hysteria. Never thought this video will be in my recommendation homepage lol
@@VideoGameAtlas It's been a whole learning process, still feeling like a beginner. I've been learning slap, salsa music and blues. I hope that by the end of this year I finally learn how to CREATE bass lines.
Just a tip: for your mic input, use line mode instead of inst. You wanna use line for anything with amplification, like a condenser microphone, a synth, or with a pre-amp, etc. Also, a cool technique you might like is to record both the bass plugged into the Scarlett and the mic from the amp, and mix them together. You can do it with the 2i2, since it has 2 channels and the stereo output in the back and direct monitoring.
Hi, don't know if you still exist, but would you care explaining it a bit more? I don't get how you'd connect the guitar to the amp if it is already plugged into the interface (connecting the afore-mentioned stereo output to the amp via a "stereo to mono" cable?) Also, I never had any issue connecting my guitars to a pre-amp (tsakalis multicab, forgot the name of the other) and then connecting the pre-amp to the interface using pure instrument mode, so I'd love to hear your reasoning behind it.
You could use a DI Box for your bass so you have two output signals. One goes for the amp itself the other to the first input of the interface at the same time. And then with the sound coming from the amp you can use a mic and use the 2nd input of your interface for it. Now you have two signals, one direct from your bass and the other from the mic of the amp.
Protip! If you want the best tone (in my personal opinion) take both the direct out from your bass and have your amp mic'd up as well. this way you get the character of your cabinet and amplifier while maintaining the clarity and definition of a DI signal.
You go girl 🙌 💪 🎵 🎸 🔥 yeah been playing for 3 years now and all i have is an amp and tried to play it over a song playing on the bluetooth speaker while recording through the phone. Thanks for sharing your beautiful knowledge and experience i might have to start investing on the same equipment as you now Again THANKS 🎵🎵
Wow. Thanks so much. I have been practicing and building up to this moment, and now I wanna start recording some covers and you made it so simple for me to understand. Lots of videos out there are quite a bit more complicated. Yours was just right (for me anyway.)
So much vibe. You should try combining the line input and the mic on your audio interface with a DI box too, so you can get the best of both worlds. The definition of the line and the body and life of the mic taking the sound from the amp and the room.
thanks for the video! I’m a bit relieved that someone is still using garageband like me haha. love your covers and been following for a while already. keep it up!
I like the sound of the mic. I’m a little wary of using wireless for recording; but wow. The interface sounded the best. I’ve been recording direct for a few years and I just recently went back to mic’ing the cab. Let’s say it takes some tricks and several effects pedals to get a really mic-ready tone. I finally achieved The Tone.
Yep! You're right about everything here! (I just want to point out that you happen to be speaking into the 180 degree side of that mic, though. It still works, and you may have intended to do it for some reason, but that's the "rejection" side of this particular mic. Most side-address mics denote the 0 degree direction with a polar pattern design. Aloha!)
ha! i also tried to express this point to a tuber but i like the way you said it "...u may have intended to do it for some reason..' was very diplomatic
Thank you so much for this one! I have been playing the bass for about 6 months now and was very confused about recording. This clears up a lot of my doubts! Stay safe, cheers! :)
You have come long way i watched your old videos and now your are very Impressive good luck, keep it up you always be one of my inspirational character
Thank you so much for the info and the way you presented it. I’m a novice bass player and really appreciate you explaining the differences in equipment you used in the olden days. Hit me shopping for the same gear maybe as a treat for myself later in 2021. I wish you the very best in all of your pursuits and endeavors with much success in all you set out to do. Pray for your well being and healing. Peace to you and your family and friends in this upcoming year ... Peace !!! 🖖🏽 “live long and prosper !!!”
I love how humble this video was. The USB to 6.5 cable method wasn't too bad from the sound tbh. I have a 6.5 to 3.5. I assume that would work too with a free bass plug in?
Great video! I prefer the Scarlett audio interface method too. It is the one that I use for recording bass covers for my Instagram page and hands down, it sounds the best. Love the work you put into your videos Jasmine!!
Your info you gave is pure gold. Thank you for sharing your bass secrets.

There's some kind of background noise across all 3 methods at the end?? It would be interesting if you could list/explain the software effects you use? I've often wondered which processing, if any, people use for their bass covers/recordings on YT. It looks like you only have a compressor? And what do you try to improve/emphasize? People will probably have a lot of ideas and comments about that, lol. Sorry about the hand nerve issues, I hope it gets better quickly! If it is bass-related, you could consider making a video about it? And share some ideas about how to avoid/mitigate that? You're probably not the only one, and it would be helpful these people, at least psychologically, to realize they're not the only ones.. Thank you for a groovy channel, always enjoyed the look and sound of that bass, and the playing of course ;) Merry Christmas! :)
Just wanted to add on to some AMP MIC setup that you did not go into. If you use the Amp Mic method, you have a whole lot of options to adjust your setup, either you can put your mic in the center of the speaker and a more balanced and whole sound, or you can have it more on the rims of it, you can also experiment with a two mic setup if you want to. That is all, and great video by the way, hope you have a very merry Christmas and a happy new year. Edit: Forgot to say that you can also do the same kind of things on some music software, but so far many professionals do it the old fashion way.
I love your videos! Drums are my main thing, I play some metal/Metal core guitar.. but I want to get a bass in the near future. Love your style. You’re awesome!
Thanks for this. I am a bass hobbyist, and I am interested in recording video and audio of covers of various tunes I'd like to learn. I just downloaded GarageBand onto my Mac Mini, and I have a USB interface I can use to get the bass into it. Looking forward to experimenting and learning as I go. You play beautifully!
I may recommend a cheap art tube preamp with a 30€ price tag used to put in front of your audio interface. Give your bass a little tube drive. Very cheap, very nice. I used it on almost anything back in my studio days, and I'm still using it 32 years later.
Thank you very much for this informative video! I’ve been thinking about doing a bass covers on RUclips as well. Your current method of recording is simple enough for me to understand. And it sounds great! I think I’ll be copying your current methods.
thanks for sharing your recording experience! directly recording with a mic to your amp, as well as using the Scarlett seem to sound the best to me :) Happy New Year!
Just found out about you today. Great content. I prefer the sound of the amp overall, but the direct one has a clear midrange tone to decipher the individual notes. Glad I found your channel. I started my bass channel last year. Cheers
Jasmine504 it's bout time your back. As you know Julia on a whole different level since that music school. Your gonna have to do some Funk Nasty covers to get back on the map. Happy Holidays Ms. Wong & hope to hear some awesome bass grooves
Interesting to see the evolution of your recording technique, thanks for posting! I also use a Focusrite interface unit with Garageband, and have had very good audio quality results.
The Scarlett interfaces are fantastic pieces of gear. I've also been using one for ages and I can't say enough good things about the quality of the sound and the ease of use. One thing though, I would recommend against using wireless in this context. Wireless can introduce interference, noise, and latency to your signal which will be detrimental to the quality of your recording.
Bedroom bassists of the world UNITE!!
We CAN rule the world!!
bathroom singer have more population tho.. i guess
Unite separately in our own bedrooms!
Basement bassists RULE !!! But, is it ok if we unite also ? Just asking for a friend.....Tee Hee !

just ordered one too! can't wait to record! :)

She can to that with just the Scarlett's 2 channels, the stereo monitor output (in the back) and the direct monitoring feature, I believe.
