Question; if there is latency in the mics and you need to mute, why don't you get the same latency? If you do then how can you record song with drums and bass etc....? Thanks.
I'm mentally putting together my home mini studio and I find that the more I learn what I need, the more questions I have. Fortunately I ran into your channel. You are answering my questions clearly and plainly. Thank you for clarifying what in the beginning for me was mystifying smoke.
To reduce latency for overdubs when recording through plug-ins, lower the buffer size in your DAW as low as possible (usually 64 samples.) While this setting is not always possible, depending on your PC/Mac CPU capability, 128 to 256 samples is almost always acceptable with a track or two with virtually any modern computer. Overdubbing is usually quite acceptable in the 5-10ms range a small buffer size offers. And always turn phantom power off and wait a few seconds to discharge the 12-48volts of current BEFORE unplugging a condenser mic to avoid a “pop” that could destroy a driver!
I watched a number of these types of videos and what makes you the best is you aren't rushing nor taking too long to stress a point but most importantly you assume that the people watching already understand the lingo like DAWS. I watched a video before yours and they kept saying DAWS and never took the time to explain what it meant. But you do did and thats one of the many reasons why you're the best!

Wanted to start recording my music and someone recommend this interface along with reaper. Glad I found this channel because I'm already overwhelmed without even buying anything 😂
Thanks, I'm not even done setting up my gear yet and I can already tell this video is going to help me because I made sense of it without even seeing the DAW I'm downloading.
Kyle I want you to know that I really appreciate how you explained exactly how to set this up properly to record and playback.... I can't thank you enough ❤🙏!!! I have ADHD and reading directions are almost useless for me but the way that you explained it made the information accessible for me to be able to understand it. Thank you so much.
Thank you for creating the best video to set up focusrite 2i2. I have looked at several videos when I purchased the product. The creators did give instructions, step by step, on how to connect the audio interface to your computer. Kyle, you targeted the right audience, Beginners! I have subscribed to your channel because I know you will do a fantastic job on "how to set up" videos on tech products.
You helped a little bit , I sorted out myself in the end. But thank you. Also if you have a four track or a mixer you could have four mic going into one input.
This was a very informative video, use basic contextual awareness to understand that if a video about a USB audio interface mentions 'your screen' they are likely talking about your computer. They even specified the differences whether you were a windows machine or an Apple machine. You aren't plugging this into your toaster mate.
Good idea, Huzh. Thanks! I'll make another video that includes answers to questions you still have! What questions do you still have about setting up an audio interface (after watching this video)?
@@AudioUniversity I’m kinda on a tight right now, I’ll think about upgrading later but what would you say is the cheapest yet good quality audio interface?
I think the Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 is a great start. That’s the interface I use in this video. You can get one for about $170. If that is outside your budget, the Presonus Audiobox USB 96 is a good option for just under $100.
I just ordered a new Scarlett 2i2 online, to be delivered on Wednesday. I had been curious as to whether I could set up the unit such that ALL audio from my computer (including the internet) could be routed through the Scarlett and played on my two monitors. This video showed me I could do that... good news!
@@KingBoog_ The two run concurrently. There's one knob to raise or lower gain in your headphones... and the master knob to raise or lower gain in your monitors.
@@davidlincolnbrooks I appreciate that. Is it a requirement for me to jump up to that almost $200 price point to get that ability? I previously used M audio but just trying to upgrade for my hobby.
Brilliant video and my god it was easy to understand. Exactly what I need because I forget what I’m doing easily with this. Your video was so helpful and now I’m looking forward to making my first recording. I’m using audacity.
I appreciate your videos they are very informative. There are actually several RUclips videos that are great. I was wondering why no one ever talks about the correct cords that should be used?
I just wish someone would create a video like this with an 8i6 , Boss RC-600 for streamers..... It's almost impossible to figure it all out and get it all to work .... Great video .... Hope this points me in the right dirrection .....

Hi! How to record video while singing real time? Setup? I usuallt record myself singing with a cellphone cam then edit on movie maker by adding my recorded voice on the video.
Question, please! Like lots of people, I love karaoke! Well, I can do this so easily with a mixer. Plug a mic into a Combo input, take my cell phone headset out, use a 1/8" to a split 1/4" cable, into inputs 3/4 of the mixer, and good to go. No go with this USB interface. How about a Scarlett 4i4? Then, pull those plugs out, plug in a microphone, and then record on a new track alongside the background music. So the question is: can I take the headphone out from a cell phone or Tablet and plug in the split 1/4" jacks into the Combo inputs and get a good signal? Thx much!
Would my interface be affected if it were connected to my computer while the computer was restarting, going into sleep mode, or powering off completely? Same question for a camlink and micro USB connected to a camera?
While I don't expect this would cause damage to these devices, they do get power from your computer, so they won't work while the computer is turned off.
