      I have considered using this for a club rig. My current rig is already pretty small (1x12 combo amp and a pedalboard basically). But only having to carry in a backpack and a guitar would be seriously cool.
      Not sure about the automation part as that would require having the drummer play to a click. But the idea is solid. It would also address amp volume onstage fairly well. Might require in-ears to be totally efficient.

    As a solo artist with no band this is exactly how I perform my live production. This also allows me to program a light show through dmx. I use allot of outboard interfaces and gear tho but still synch program changes thorough time code to the external gear. Like you Ola I love and prefer a amp ect but depending on the type of performance we now have amazing tools to achieve this.

      Is there latency cause of the USB input?

    • @havocharmony9661
      @havocharmony9661 2 года назад +6

      @@IVsakeN Not in my setup. All my live instruments are run through stand alone gear straight to the mix that goes to house. So none of my live performance has to take a lap through the DAW before hitting the mix which means zero latency. The CC messages coming from DAW to the standalone gear for patch switching is instant. Now if I were using plugins for my live sounds there could be slight latency.

    • @havocharmony9661
      @havocharmony9661 Год назад +4

      @@IVsakeN None at all. All my live gear outs are to direct lines, not run through DAW. The DAW only plays back 2 tracks on 2 separate buses, One goes to house/audience, the other includes click and vocal ques and goes direct to my in ear monitoring. So the actual processing load on the DAW is very low. 2 audio tracks with no processing, and a cpl hundred automation lanes for light program.

    Iv been recording audio for going on 17 years now as a fun hobby and i JUST recently got hip to using a DI signal and being able to edit sounds without having to record everything again, game changer moment man!
    Way back in my grade school days man i took a headphone jack for my amp and had an auxiliary cord handy so i plugged it into my microphone port and boom 💥 it worked. Now 17 years later im hooking it up via usb cord and can modify the sound AFTER i have already tracked it, amazing how far technology has come ❤

      Are you asking about how plugins and stuff work? I literally like last week got to finally fiddle with plugins.
      Basically you completely take the amp out of the equation as you don't need it at all period. You plug your guitar into your digital interface box and run a USB cord to your computer. You then download an amp simulation software such as amplitube 5 the one I experimented with. You go through and make your tone presets you want to use for later. Now minimize that window for now as you don't need it up on the screen just running in the background.
      Fire up your software and configure your audio paths. I'm going to use audacity as an example as it's free to download. Go to the top and click edit, preferences. A new window pops up, plugins manager select your plugin program amplitube 5. A window pops up next to the track that says edit plugin this is when you know your connected. Hope this helps if not feel free to ask.

Is there much better out there for cheaper if your not using the plugins they offer? I love my UA but i sometimes feel like its overkill especially for the price if i never use any of the UA plugins. I have one for my Mac but i am not shopping for a Windows AI and thinking if i should go UA or not.

      I just use the Arrow because it was one of the first small Thunderbolt 3 interfaces, it's more reliable and because of the thunderbolt, hot plugging is a lot better than traditional USB.
      But yeah exactly like you said, even though I own a lot of UAD plugins, I never used them for the intended purpose of the DSP In the actual interface. Also I don't like the idea that you're spending money for plugins that you won't be able to use if you switch interface.

    Its relatively cheap aswell, got the SSL for ~200€ and Neural DSP for 60 on black friday. For this price, I could barely get a half decent little beginner amp.
    Yeah I dream of having my own Mesa one day, but this day, if ever, will be far in the future.

      I do it for about 7 minutes then stop (just long enough to get them to call the cops), when I really want to irritate the neighbors because they're being particularly douchey...my answer when the police show up for noise complaint is "I'm not doing it now and less than 15 minutes of intermittent noise violation is allowed as long as it is not continuous measured sound pressure, so can you please show me your currently valid calibration sticker on your sound meter?"
      They struggle for something to say and then just leave.
      Because I have a calibrated sound meter, with a valid cal tag.
      Even if they had one (they NEVER bring it the first time out), I'd have checked for a calibration sticker and they RARELY have it on their unit, much less current so I can immediately invalidate their argument when they thought they were being REALLY SMART.
      Also know that I have not one but two of the Sunn 1200S amps that can put 1200W into a 2 ohm monoblock, and they're the rebadged Fender ones that have the improved thermal solution so if I felt like it I could run them long and hard as well as loud af. The only amp rumored to have slagged more voice coils is the Peavey Firebird 700, and trust that I've been looking ha ha ha

      @@rachitbhengra4298 Well tbh I'm no expert in this field but for me at least, it does what its supposed to do.
      Thinking back to his review, I think his main critical points where things, that his more expansive gear did better, mostly due to a higher quality.
      I havent had any problems with it so far, using it to feed my guitar into Neural DSP or Ableton with Neural DSP...
      There might be better options out there, idk, but for me it does the thing.
      You have to remember however, that this is a very simple piece of gear, mostly due to the price tag. It has two inputs and some little controls, thats it. On the other handside, you can easily pay ten times the price for an interface...
      I would recommend it, coming from my point of view, but dont take my word that serious. I'm not really experienced in this field.
      For me, it does the job, and therefore, I like it.
      If you decide to give it a try, and you like it too, thats great. Maybe, if theres an option for you and you have some things you'd like to have in an interface, get a few in this price range to test and keep your favorite.
      I heard good things about Focusrite stuff aswell...
      I'm sorry I couldnt really help, but whatever you decide in the end, I hope you'll find the right thing for you! ^^

    Decided I’m gonna play some live shows with this setup a few months ago. Audio interface, old macbook (hopefully it doesn’t screw me over 😮‍💨) and use the venue’s PAs and mixer and should be good to go!

    Dudeeee I've been thinking about the same thing! I have an old laptop and it's still kicking! Almost all my amps broke during this time! And I used this laptop all the time travelling and working, like waaaay more than my amps.

    I would love a tutorial video on how to create the automation track to change your plugin presets. This is really great but I can find no content on how to create a track and make it change in Logic. Your rig sounds great Ola!

    Wait, you are using a sustainiac? Will they be an option in Solar models? I have one in my Schecter and use it quite often.

    Absolutely, use the tech to work for you! The reality is that ALL effects pedals and most amps use digital processing for the output sound. I just started getting back into playing guitar and the idea of practicing without disturbing others around me makes sense.
