- If you've been following us for a while you know about our hunt for former Formula One driver, Michele Arboreto's, AMG Hammer. Watch the old video to get the back story on the hunt itself, but suffice to say, we have succeeded thanks partially to the help from you guys
Old Video: • Help Us Find this Lost...
When I was a teenager in the 80's, these AMG cars made my mouth water. I was very into tuners like AMG, Ruf, Gemballa, Dinan, Hartge, Lorinser, Brabus and more. Awesome stuff.
Until today, the Hammer wagon is the most beautiful wagon ever

The Taycan Cross Turismo really is beautiful too
The Audi URS6 Avant and RS2 (the original one, especially in French blue) are pretty special as well.
I had the opportunity to buy a 1995 S6 Avant, black on black with low miles but the owner lost the title and the deal fell thru. I still kick myself to this day over it because they’re incredibly rare and have one of the greatest engines of all time.
there are a lot of passionate car enthusiasts out there but John is at the top of the list. His entire life is infused with the best finds and sales and all while being sincere, genuine and entertaining. I bet he treats everyone he meets like they could be his best customer regardless of what they drive or could afford to purchase.
I love the Hammers and AMG’s introduction of body color painted trim/wheel fashion……but Big Red Pig is what put AMG on the map.
They weren’t garage queens, they were daily drivers….like Porsches. Driving one of these daily is the ultimate luxury 😎
Best car content on RUclips. Passion, passion, passion and it shows. Thank you!
amazing!! congratulations!, Madrid number plate, first registration looking at traffic records for your information is 06/10/1987, you could go to the Spanish Traffic Authority and for a few bucks you will have a complete report of the car. I hope you are able to take one of the J. Pujol cars seized by the Spanish Tax Authorities, the Lambo Diablo, it seems a JE. Regards
friggin' EPIC!!!!! i was so excited to hear the last video you were looking for it. i still have all the premerger amg articles since 1985 from 10 mag subsciptions and the other 15-20 mags my dad bought me every month for 20 years. ive got a bunch of 380 sec amg matchboxes and i was in front of the tv for 2 major life events- mtv's first hour and miami vice 1st episode and i didnt miss a show. ive got such a love for euro 80's tuner cars but RUF and AMG are my fav's. your relationships with people involved with the buildng of these cars is incredible as is your knowledge of them. please keep creating the absolute best content about these tuneers and exotics . no one comes close MR. T!!!
Love what y’all do man, it’s a real gift to learn about these cars I have so much love for them
Nice to hear that the hunt for this AMG worked and you were able to buy it. The old AMG's must be saved.
Love the passion for these cars! Keep up the good work Curated!! Love from the U.K 🇬🇧
I'd love to hear from the AMG guys of the 80s/90s. That would be amazing.
Very special memories for me as when I was a car mad teenager in the 80’s I would beg my dad to take me to Stratton Of Wilmslow who were the only official UK dealer for AMG at the time to look around and admire their cars.My dad only ever owned S Class Mercedes so we were big MB fans.We used to holiday in Miami every year at the time too and would always call in at Auto Toy Store to look at the cars there too-Ive heard you mention them also. Thanks for sharing and great videos as always.Best wishes from the UK. Will Howarth
It would interesting to compare the Hammer to the 500e since they both started as normal 124s and were “engineered”; one by AMG the other by Porsche. I still have a magazine cut out from 30 odd years ago when I first saw the hammer.
Porsche was only responsible for building the 500e, because it was too wide to fit down Mercedes’ manufacturing line. Porsche did not collaborate with Mercedes’ on this build, contrary to popular belief.
I had a early Renntech 190E 16V conversion when Hartmut just got here from AMG. He created a 3.4-24. Even had the emblem converted from 2.3 to 3.4-24 in the same font.He used all the AMG tricks to the car and used allot of AMG parts along with a engine swap. If I remember it was stamped AMG on the shocks and springs, had Old AMG gauges. Extra wood grain everywhere and bored and stroked in-line 6 from another Benz, I can't remember which one. I reached out to Hartmut at Renntech, I'm in Fl also. He did remember the car and said they could certify it for a couple grand which I didn't want to do at the time. Wish I still had it. I remember to they did paint on it in the original Mercedes' 199 blue/black color with what seemed to be about 4 coats of clear. That's as close as I'll get to a old AMG I'm sure. I have vids of it on my channel. Purchased out of a PA. Collection via BAT. Sold to a guy in San Fran.
I’d bust a nut for an original 190E AMG
Iirc, RennTech did a bigger bore than AMG with their 3.4-24. Same stroke i believe.
Hey John, I would love to see a story done on the Renntech E7.4rs of 1998. I remember reading about it in car and driver magazine back then but have never seen any documentaries on it to watch. Cheers mate from Australia. Keep the videos coming
Do you have any idea what year(s) of the 1980's it may have been an F1 pace car? I've been to quite a few F1 races in the 80's - especially Spa/Francorchamps. (I'm Belgian) We have lots of pictures from that era. Thousands.- I'm going to see what I can find. Forget the fee. Helping to rebuild car history is enough of a reward.
When these cars were released, Car & Driver went crazy.
F@#*n love this channel!!! Thanks John for being a historian of these awesome cars. I learn something new every video.
thank you for the fantastic work you have done and shared with all AMG lovers.
We are here brother!...."Such a character"..... Reminds me of the Northern Suburbs of Melbourne Australia, where our daily drive is a Mercedes Benz. (Hummer Away)
love the content John! Can't wait to see the inside of the W124 Hammer, by far and above the most special benz ever.
Fantastic information! My bro owned a blue/black 560sec back in the day, what a stunning coupe it was!!
Good work guys! Have to share a car tale: saw a 126 560sel with a 3 inch pipe and brabus badges. Tried to buy it guy refused and scrapped it. Not salvaged, tore it apart and sold for scrap by the ton. Always wondered what that car would have been worth. AMG are great, especially the pre-takeover ones. Did they do the e500? The '92 one, I think
Wow, just wow! John is so knowledgeable and passionate - would love to have dinner and hang out with him - Bucket List!
There was an AMG Hammer sitting at a random service station on Irving street in San Francisco for most of 2005 just collecting fog and dust. I drove an 86 2.3-16 in smoke silver at the time, so needless to say every time I drove by my heart sank.
Never never never give up - Churchill
Just two days ago I was doing a bunch of research on hammers and then you guys upload this, wild!
Well Done, John! I love the AMG Hammer Wagoon! I hope that you, Senja and the boys are all well and staying safe! Take care my friend!
When I manifest the funds to pick myself up a classic car the first person I’m calling is you. No way I am purchasing a vehicle from someone that doesn’t share the same passion as you and I.
keep up the great work in preserving these great Mercs
A lot of pre, mid and even some post merger AMG cars are very underated! Just look at the W202 platform which is very important in the AMG history - they are just starting to go up in value.
Another sensational story and looking forward to so many more.
I remember back in 91 my dad’s friend dexter had a 300 E AMG , he was a big time drug dealer out of NJ , I remember my dad saying he paid about 90,000$ for the car and if he wasn’t careful the police was going to busted him , I was so in love with that car , the wipers on the head lights always caught my attention I thought it was so cool …
I can't wait to see the hammer cars!!!! Super excited!!!!
An AMG Hammer registry is what i want for christmas.
I love the stories, the cars, and this man! But god, please... get that watch properly sized! 😜
I remember once talking a Mercedes dealer in Nashville to let me test drive a 190E 2.3 16V with a manual when I was a teenager. They probably didn't even know as much as I did about the car because that is how most dealerships work. The early AMG cars were so much better than Anything that came after the Buy out.
The beasts from Bavaria. LoL. I remember these vividly. And am jealous.
But couldn’t have found a better home than with curated. 👍
Friend of mine had a rinspeed hammer orig from Switzerland, got stolen and burnt out in Marbella
oh no!
We used to go to Morocco in it,and at Tangier ,they used to make everyone wait ,and let us go first
Still have the 1988 Road and Track magazine "Worlds Fastest Cars" that features the Yellow Bird and the AMG Hammer. We need the maroon and white Gemballa Avalanche!
I grew up dreaming about The AMG Hammer....legendary!!
John ur a inspiration. You surely have to come to Australia where a local dealer has a lambo miura sv (Dutton garage Melbourne).
Haha I could be wrong but didn’t John said the black LP-670 SV was not for sale and a few weeks later I saw it posted on IG being sold. I don’t think I can ever be successful at your job, John. I’ll hold onto all these rare beauties, of course one would need the funds to do that.
I also agree with your thoughts on manifestation. Manifested on owning my dream car and now it’s sitting in my garage. Never give up!
I love them both so much but something about the SEC I love even though the hammer is better looking. They are one of my favorites
dont forget the killer Nakamichi sound systems. ive never heard theres but i had some Nakamichi home eqiup. amazing!!!
AMG HAMMER. I still have the Road & Track magazine when I first saw this beast. 🔥⭐️🚀 #GOAT
John what cars are in your personal collection right now?
So happy to see you got the car!
There’s someone here in Portland, OR that has an amg Hammer coupe, so crazy to see one in person
I need advice please. I know of an W124 AMG Hammer limousine and wanted to know what to pay for it. The seller wants 27.5k (euros). It's in very poor condition and needs a total restoration. Is this a decent starting price?
Three CGTs. And a hammer. (Among everything else they have.) In the same room. I couldn’t believe it.
John sure tells a good story 👍
🔥🔥🔥🔥 rare , really rare
This is amazing, the Holy Grail ! Wow !
Best content ive seen on early amg are they any w123 amg’s left
I remember reading that article.
To me that is good when those are undervalued, when it is good..When now days car market is nuts, so crazy
what are the going rates for the 190E 2.3 16V? the cosworth motored one with a manual transmission.
Thanks John 😎
Love your content ❤️
So, mate where's the actual car (Hammer) have you purchased it yet??? We would love to see it on your Channel!
Hope to see lots of the SEC too!
W210 E55 AMG, 205k miles.
Best car ever.
Thanks to the iconic AMG Hammer a lot of People bought the Mercedes Porsche 500E W124 The Wolf 🙌
amazing video.
It's always so sad to me that all the cars I liked when they weren't that cool suddenly went way up in price once I had the money for them.
Man I would do anything to drive an original classic AMG.
That Mercedes AMG gt3 commerical from seven years ago on testdriven
Imagine if the 2 cars MATED in the plane .... and there was a 3rd hammer sitting there with ZERO miles :)
love this content. great channel
Good pr job.
Manifesting Works🏁
Any of them made with a manual?
Cool I have r129 500Sl 6.0 AMG 1992
Hammer Time !!! SO AWESOME

What about the red hammer that was at miami auto show you need to find matty from Mercedes auto body in ft Lauderdale he was behind most of those vehicles and so was Doug from metrix
Epic Car & Story #NiceFindJohn
Love AMG 😩💗
E3.2 AMG was pace car at 1987 Brazil GP
Neighbor used to have a 300CE hammer ...
What's the history behind that spanish licence plate?
Amg used to build Mitsubishi's as well
Hopefully it’ll go to a collector that will actually drive it somewhat. I’m all for collecting and preserving amazing cars but letting them just sit is sad.
You gotta go down to boca raton
The patina collective 👍🏽
the SEC is for sale ???
So we all know it’s going to vico of Patina Collective
True LOL
When you say that many of them were «destroyed», do u mean that they dont exist anymore? Or that they are in bad condition?
Hammer #1 is sitting in a garage in my area...
Markets insane
I think Sir mix a lot had sec back in the 80`s
Was that my comment about the Advanced Level Auto?
Shut up!
Awesome dude well done
Yea buddy.treasure
what's the story of the homeless guy out the front of curated on google street view?
"If you've been following us for a while you know about our hunt for former Formula One driver, Michele Arboreto's, AMG Hammer."
Is he related with Michele Alboreto or just a guy from a family in the risotto business?
go to the daimler Mercedes benz museum
