- Let's ask Kathy how she is doing with her new Tesla Model Y LR. Is she having range anxiety? How has the charging been going? How is she liking her new acceleration boost? Many if you know that Kathy is a full time teacher here in Fairfield County CT. Therefore she has the Summers off. Each Summer, Kathy spends her time down at our condo on Marco Island FL and I ping pong back and forth from CT to FL on the weekends.

Just like you, I am so happy with my MYLR AFTER ONE MONTH. You did describe it as " simple to drive" in a previous video and you were right on point. Had a new Bolt EUV, that the Tesla replaced and I couldn't be happier. Ty you guys, entertaining and informative video as always.
Congrats Dave on having a 10 for a wife who’s personality makes her a 12 .
creepy
Always entertaining and you both have great little nuggets of information.
The Acceleration Boost will increase your acceleration after you've hit at least 30 mph, but if you want added acceleration for the 0-30 mph speeds, you've got the buy the Performance model instead of the Long Range.
Loving my Model Y as well!
To keep things in perspective, acceleration boost in the Y makes it as quick as the Model 3 without it. My wife thinks it was worth he money, for when you need to pass some one, or pull onto the interstate with a truck roaring up behind you. It’s a very worthwhile upgrade.
I thought it was worth it, after buying it. But later on I wanted to take things further, and traded in my M3LR toward the purchase of a M3P.
Have owned my 2021 Model Y LR for 2 years 7 months, 30K miles. Just replaced my tires with Hankook Ion EVO tires. That’s the only maintenance I’ve had. I charge almost all the time at home with a level 2 charger.
I love the looks and the luxury of the Genesis but the model y is a lot more affordable. You've had both. Which do you prefer?
They prefer model y, why do you think they sold overpriced genesis and got a y
Senior moment made me crack up Dave, Golden Nugget right there❤️
Dave and Kathy, I had a 22 Model 3. I really liked the car but my wife hated the phantom breaking issues. I hope they have addressed that issue because I would love to own a Model Y. PS, Dave we like you as well!
Long Range with the performance boost still has the great range and range is King.
like all your episodes, tons of information, you do an excellent job of explaining things and how things work, thanks, Kyle is awesome to
OOS Dave and Kathy are the Ozzie and Harriet of the new millennium.❤️
Haha
@Out of Spec Dave Great video! Can you provide link to the headrest pillow for your Tesla?
My wife’s grandparents lived in Naples in the winter (Snowbirds) so she spent a lot of time there over the years. We honeymooned in Bonita Springs, loved it! Great area. 8:38
Thank you to both of you for this report.
I noticed the added black headrest. Please discuss the seat comfort.
You two are so much fun and love watching. Headed to NJ from VT today to pick up my MY white on white. So excited to welcome “CoolWhip 2023” to the family. Cheers🥂
Thanks for the great vid 😊 I truely enjoyed like always!!
Btw you guys are more fun than the main channel.
@26:15 Carbon Fiber, not Foil. Being a senior, as well, it took a couple of days to bubble up.
"It's so clean...Nobody uses it except me"....Sounds like a Seinfeld episode. Ha, ha.
Hey guys! Don’t miss any of your videos!. So funny, my favorite super charging is Venice because of the nice burgers in front! 😂. I own a M3LR and travel to Venice from Lakeland all the time for work
I like the Venice Florida tesla charging at the jacaranda exit. Nice location.
LO❤E Bailey! I completely understand that Kathy would be wary of depending upon DCFC stations in her previous GV60. Ironically, however, if Hyundai/Kia/Genesis would just get on board with the transition to NACS, eventually she might have been able to charge at Superchargers instead.
Tesla Superchargers are currently and for the short and midterm, completely useless to HKG EVs. What Hyundai should do is switch to NACS, seek Supercharger access for last resort coverage, and build out their own 1000V capable NACS network.
@@notshylo Uh… you don't understand the adverb "eventually"…? 🤪
@@Yanquetino HKG definitely doesn’t have time to wait for “eventually.” And Out of Spec Mom will probably have had at least two other cars by the time even a double digit percentage of SCs are 800v capable.
@@notshylo Y'think? 2024 is just too far off to merit the adverb "eventually"? And since 800V chargers aren't widespread yet, better to just settle for lower 480V units? There's always someone who feels the need to pontificate, lecture, and condescend. Thanks for sharing. 🤪
@@Yanquetino now who can’t understand simple words? And you’re the only one who’s been condescending. But that can change. Fact: There is zero chance that even a double digit percentage of SCs will 800v capable by 2024. In fact, they’re unlikely to reach that milestone before the next decade, since that’s when the actually new 3/Y will roll out. “But Cybertruck…”? How stupid would Tesla be to roll out a vehicle that requires new infrastructure for its users to get around? It will, 100%, charge perfectly fine on all existing Tesla infrastructure. The 2 will be cheap and not warrant the expenditure for SC upgrades either. There is no reason for Tesla to accelerate a switchover to 800v+ architecture.
I love them ❤
What is the little black pillow Kathy has attached to her seats ?
You both are fun watch
Dave and Kathy’s Marco condo needs a commercial charger such as Juicebox Pro so they can charge at home. One charger will support 5 or more EVs. That’s much more convenient than a Supercharger. With a home charger, the GV60 might have worked, however trips to Tampa possibly a challenge.
Is this Ozzie & Harriet or the Dick vanDyke show? Sadly, many of the young viewers don’t know these shows.
My Model Y (3 weeks old) came with bad front driver and passenger windows, cameras that won’t align (inoperative autopilot and cruise control), and inoperative Cabin Overheat Protection. Tesla assures me everything is checking out on over the air updates.
If your MY has HW4, then you should schedule Tesla Service to recalibrate the cameras. I had the same issue and the problem was the newer HW4 Model Y cameras were aligned for HW3 (i.e., three 1.2 mp cameras) rather than HW4 (i.e., two 5mp cameras, with a spare). The Tesla technician explained the HW3 alignment setting is 3, but for HW4 it should be 0.3. Once they align and recalibrate the cameras, you will see the FSD graphics and Park Assist will work much better. For HW4, the Enhanced Autopilot is in beta mode and FSD has limited functionality. Currently, FSD is not available for my 2023 MYLR, but the vehicle does stop at stop lights and stop signs. One caveat is unless you press the accelerator or hit the stalk, it will stop at a green light. It displays the message as you get closer to a green light. Autosteer on city streets including lane changes is not currently available for FSD in HW4. It is my understanding the initial version of FSD for HW4 will be 11.3.6 compared with version 11.4.4 for HW3.
I currently own a Hyundai ioniq5. I mostly bought it because it’s reported to be smoother riding and quieter than the Tesla’s. Since you previously owned a genesis, how does the ride quality and quietness compare to the Tesla? No doubt the charging experience is far superior with Tesla.
Make sure you check your vehicle for the fuse recall. They are fixing for free but can brick your car on the road. Drivers report a loud bang then the car stops.
I used a Hi5 for 14mo loved it other than the issues with EA charging and the trip to the dealer every 2 months for updates! I also went through the OEM tires in 14k.
Now I’ve got a 22 MYLR Ride quality seems about the same as the Hi5, both decent about the same on the road as a Jeep Grand Cherokee but not like a 100k Mercedes EQS.
Kathy, I agree that the performance boost is not worth $2K. I also think that FSD is no way worth $15K.
Got fsd for the 2nd tesla. I now hate driving the 1st car.
@@mbarr987 What exactly to you love about FSD?
If one wants FSD, the financially better option is to subscribe to it for $99 or $199 per month, depending on which version of Autopilot you purchased.
@@williamrogers1219 Why would you pay $199 a month for a buggy beta FSD that is not much better that autopilot which is free?
@@ArnoldWinters Autopilot stack is for highway driving and only includes cruise control and autosteer. FSD is the stack for city driving.
If you could have bought the Standard Range Model Y with white seats, would you have preferred that car over the Model Y long range.
Kathy’s said 3 years, sounds like she’s waiting for Macan EV!
OMG, you 2 crack me up and are so much fun! I live in Saint Petersburg, FL and just and FYI there are Tesla Superchargers at the WaWa Station on Gandy in Saint Pete. We traded in our 2021 Tesla LR Model Y for a 2023 Tesla Model X.
You need to get on the Condo board in Florida to get proper level 2 charging. I am doing that right now for our condo on the beach in Mexico.
I became a Florida condo board president and convinced other members we needed a commercial charger. It cost only $1950 with installation and supports over 5 EVs. We run it as a non-profit where registered users pay only $0.15 per kWh. Direct billing to users on our Juicebox Pro works great.
It’s in the works. No desire to get on the board. That stress would only ruin my happy place
@@outofspecdave1554 Great to hear condo is getting charging. Available for advice if you want it. Hopefully, your board sets charging fee near actual cost and not EA rates.
When did Acceleration boost come back? I just checked the app and it still isn't available for our 4680 Model Y.
Only available for LR
Unfortunately not available for Model Y 4680
My biggest new Tesla MYLR owner observations: I knew range would be below EPA, but honestly range is more underwhelming than I expected given the 330 combined sticker number. Very glad we didn't get the SR. Real world highway, you're just not even close, especially with any elevation changes and a bit of buffer. Parked battery drain especially if you leave sentry mode on anywhere is higher than I expected. Tesla route planning, as fast and as good as the maps are to use, I miss a lot of features like police/wreck notifications and weak rerouting options. The parking aids are hilariously bad on our driveway, with only having the camera in the windshield, it has no idea how close the chin is to hitting things and when it gives you a distance in inches it's all over the place. It just chimes all the time. It likes to think I'm going to hit a semi in my driveway occasionally too. Random windshield wipers means I just turn off auto wipers, never had that problem on other cars with auto wipers. But it's fun to drive and energy is cheap, I do like the car, but there were definitely some features that felt underwhelming compared to the hype.
The range is set by EPA and is the same method for all-electric vehicles, thus it is for comparison purposes between different electric vehicles. As for actual driving, this problem is the same for ICE vehicles, thus the term YMMV. The MYSR with the 6048 battery may have less range, but it can be charged to 100%, while MYLR typically is charged to 80% - 90%.
@@williamrogers1219 Not really. EPA efficiencies are submitted by the OEM and done to EPA standards and they have multiple cycle options and can even underrate below that if they choose. Look at the 70 mph range tests on this channel and compare other cars real world to actual.
ICE of course have the advantage of being most efficient on the highway, but the EPA range figures on ICE vehicles are usually very achievable (and usually so high, who cares).
You two should go to Europe, preferably Norway, to check out the charging infrastructure. It's a different experience in so many ways. I never charge at shopping malls, most of the time I use HPC's right by the higway/motorway. My favourite is the "pit stop style" sites, where there's no detour involved at all. Some places they've even replaced the fuel pumps. Still, people struggle a bit with having to deal with literally hundereds of different networks, hardware solutions, authentication and payment methods throughout Europe. So it's not perfect. I daily an Audi e-tron, which gives me access to 550,000 charging points with the Audi RFID or app, in addition to the Open for all Tesla Superchargers, but nothing beats using Tesla on a Tesla Supercharger..
That Dave is a class act.
Out of spec mom just blow up my road trip trick. When she talked about the hotel bathroom😅
Love you guys!!!
Great stream folks! 🕺🏼💃🏼🐶
So true Dave 👍
Maybe😊 it is too new to be judging it yet, however if it performed as expected and no problem and comfortable, I also would say I was happy!😊
@26:08 -- sitting here, yelling st the screen: "carbon FIBER, Dave; come on, man!" Senior moment, indeed.😹😜
But seriously, thank you both for the entertainment, as always!😉😁😸
Dude, you married above your station! Lol!
Since there's a limit to referral points, Kathy should get a referral code and Bailey too.
QQ: How often does OOSM have to go to the Supercharger typically?
#JustAsking
If the Genesis had the same ease of charging as the Tesla, AND it’s own amazing charging curve, would you rather have it, or do you need the longer range from the Y?
Kathy, I must admit, I also go to hotel bathrooms when traveling. But, let’s keep that secret to ourselves! 🤭
Dave where do you get your shirts?
She didn't say "I love you" back when you told her you loved her. You better get down to Florida and fast! lol
He drives a Lucid but he thinks the $4 ice cream is expensive 🤣
100% 😂
A Lucid would make an interesting ice cream truck.
Dude was TOTALLY trying to get with OutOfSpecMom LOL
Which dude?
@@marstav4640 The Out-Of-Spec Hubby Dude.
9:00 😂ice cream 🍦 😋 ❤
10:10 CHOOSE CLEAN 🙏 😅
I definitely wouldnt pay $4 for a mcdonalds ice cream cone. I would think those would be under a dollar! Its not even real ice cream haha.
A dollar plus tax in Canada with the McD app.
In Norwalk Stew Leonards is much better ice cream
I wonder if Tesla ever puts acceleration boost on sale?
Bar hopping! Kathy forgot to put her wedding ring back on ;)
Interesting that Kathy went to Florida in the summer most people go to Florida in the winter
Hiding from Dave so he can't sell her car😂
You are correct about Florida in winter time , but she teaches high school music in CT so can’t do that. Summer is her big vacation.
Great couple aren't they 👍
Would love to see a range test of before and after with the acceleration boost. Are you able to uninstall it and reinstall it to test this?
It won’t change anything
@@brandenflasch Thank you Branden!
It's just fun to watch your videos...
Tesla beats most other evs period
Dave, please address the Tesla offer to allow the transfer, with owner, of FSD for 2 months. I wouldn’t buy it since it’s buggy and I have better things to do with $15K.
It's makes more sense to get a monthly subscription of FSD. If you don't like it during that first month, you cancel your subscription and you're only out $199.
I’ve had FSD on my M3P and sold it in January & got a Y. I wouldn’t even waste $199 for a month for it since it’s way too buggy and marginally different than AP. I am fine with plain, vanilla, AP. I even could care less about EAP, which is a huge waste of $6,000.00. Are you kidding me?
@@ArnoldWinters I don't have FSD or ESD myself.
Acceleration boost worth every penny
I thought it was worth it, and most people of the Tesla forum at that time also thought so.
What does Kathy teach????

... Peace.. Shalom.. Salam.. Namaste 🙏🏻 😊 🌈 ✌ ☮ ❤
Ughh…. LUCID. I don’t get it. Crazy expensive, no service, no charging net wait that works.
12:00 making friends., 😅❤
It’s pretty sad when you have to pay $2000 just to have a software modification so your car is faster. It doesn’t cost Tesla a penny to do this.
Even if it’s just a software change, code doesn’t write and test itself. Good developers and testers are not cheap. There’s a cost to creating and deploying this feature, why shouldn’t they be able to charge for it?
If you feel it’s not worth it, nobody’s forcing you to buy it.
Tesla is more likely to incur the expense of a warranty motor replacement, and the $2000 helps offset that.
@@scottbreseke716 The fun of briefly cramming a metric asston of amps down a wire. Also when the difference between a merely _hot_ wire and a _melted_ wire is 7 seconds or less…. You better pray they got the code right.
I was amused to discover my GV-60’s _Boost_ button is immediately re-triggerable.. I understand the one on the Ionic 5N will have a cooldown, so I presume that’s pushing closer to limits.
❤
Are there charging stations for CCS cars in Naples besides EA? I know the EA station in Naples in horrendous. We have only been there a couple of times, with our Ioniq 5. EA chargers are few and far between in Southwest Florida. If you dont have to wait for a working charger, you have to negiotiate the clueless ICE drivers wizzing around in front of the chargers and other drivers backing out of parking spaces. Going back to Tesla was a smart choice.
Cute but... You two should get a room
It sounds like boost isn’t worth 2000$
I see a CYBERTRUCK in your future lol
Those 4680’s are failing at an incredibly high rate. Single cells that require a full HV pack replacement.
Our car has the 2170’s since it’s a LR
According to who?
@@brandenflasch 4680 owners with failing cells
@@POINDXTRMUSIC I’m a 4680 owner without failing cells 🤷♂️ you’re far more likely to hear about issues than positive experiences
@@brandenflasch everything will be fine until it’s not. Check the model Y subreddit, it’s quickly becoming a daily topic.

I can’t imagine leaving my best friend alone in the car even with a dog mode, if anything would happen to him I could never forgive myself. Once all the particulars are worked out with Tesla road tripping with any EV will be as easy as a Tesla. Fun video with the two of you crazy kids and Bailey.
I want to see them put Bailey behind the wheel, then use Summon to get some driving action going. 🐕🚗
2years 11 months, 😂!
Carbon fiber :)
You didn’t get the Tesla cos your husband had been allergic to Tesla for years.
The car is only 30 days old and you're praising the reliability? Um yah ok.
I think she just feel more happier with the Tesla and not so much about praising the reliability. Of course, if you shell out over $50k for a car, you are bound to act like that too.
Those 4680’s are having single cell failures like CRAZY
I think really she’s talking about the reliability of their charging network, not the car (other than fast charging it). Availability is another factor, there’s still parts of the country where CCS chargers are few and far between. I want to road-trip to go watch a starship launch, but outside of one hotel, there’s practically zero CCS chargers on ABRP in that part of Texas
This is her second MY. She loves the reliability of Tesla charging network.
Initial quality / reliability is worth noting 🤷♂️
Boring Tesla.
Reliable NACS
