Spotted him in New York one time, hanging out in a gay bar. He was dressed up like one of the village people, told me it was all just a joke. But seemed like a cool dude and good dancer.
@SportsLegalAnalysisFL Agreed. Jokes aside, I think this actor is super talented, but that was just such a weird thing. Like they couldn't find any other talented actors to play the role of Vito?
Sunday night while filming the Sopranos James left a box of Mallomars next to Gannascoli to film his scene & upon returning it was f@cking empty! You don't think James knew it was him?!!
I never saw Joe in person. My Father sold a camera to James Gandolfini. As for me, one day I walked right past the actor that played Bobby. I recognized him, and he noticed, and in that moment, I loved him like a brother in law.
@Dan_Ben_Michael That's wrong again Dan, you're forgetting. You're forgetting the answers. I didn't stop him because it was in NYC and in NYC you don't just say "hello". Dan, do you even know what the difference is between an elephant and a tiger?

It happens to us all, as I am aging, I am starting to think back and wondering what I could had done better, differently or even not do at all. We all want to be young again and relive our youth, but we gotta let it go in the end.
I once met Gannascoli while vacationing in New Hampshire. I had lost my phone at the bed and breakfast where I was staying. He said, "When I lose mine, I always backtrace my steps."
i was once seeing a girl who used to work at a popcorn shop in brooklyn and vito started making a scene and asking for a discount because “he was a sopranos star” and drove her almost to tears, she was 17 at the time btw

I met him in Syosset LI at a street fair. He shook my hand but seemed like he just wanted to be left alone which I think Is fair. He wasn’t rude about it
He opened a Soup restaurant in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn named Soup as Art. He would sit in the restaurant in his chefs jacket and seemed like a pleasant enough guy. I can vouch that the soup was really quite good. I spoke with him a few times and had a pleasant and cordial conversation each time. I was sad to see he closed the restaurant.
I met him accidentally, about 6 years ago in Queens, NY. I was working as a health inspector at the time. My job took me and my assistant to a gay bar and restaurant, where we were investigating reports of contaminated gabagool being served to patrons. As we were walking to the kitchen through the crowded establishment, Mr Gannascoli appeared directly in front of me. He was dressed in leather like a member of the Village People. He even had chaps on.
I did the Sopranos tour in 2013. Takes you to lots of locations used on the show including stopping at Satin Dolls (aka Bada Bing) to have a beer. As a huge fan of the show, I loved every minute of it. At the end of the tour, Joe was standing at the rear of his car selling photos and merch. I opted to buy a couple of signed photos from the show and to have my friend take a photo of me with Joe. He's in full Vito mode in the photo, one arm around my shoulder, his other hand pointing at me as if to say "this guy right here!". As far as I remember, he charged me a total of $20 which I thought was a pretty fair price. I only exchanged a few words with him as I completely got that he only has a limited amount of time to make his money at the end of each tour. He seemed fine to me and I don't begrudge him the opportunity to make some money off his time on the greatest show ever made. I was just delighted to get to actually meet someone from the show and I still cherish that photo to this day. There's been a few times over the years since when I've been chatting to people in bars and the subject of The Sopranos comes up. It's always funny to see their faces when I pull out my phone and show them a pic of me with Vito!
This radio talk show had a contest, which listener could get the coolest famous person to call in to morning the show. The winner won a cruise or something. The guy who played Vito called in to try and win it on behalf of himself.
I did The Sopranos tour years ago. Joseph did the thing selling cheap merch from his car at the start of the tour. I can’t remember what I paid for the New Jersey number plate I bought for some reason, but he was friendly and posed for pics and seemed touched when my dad told him how much he enjoyed his performance as Vito. Tour guide gave the impression they were mates. Maybe we were just lucky, and he had the good doughnuts that day.

One of my favourite scenes in the sopranos is the one where Vito has taken an outdoor job and is mentally calculating when it is time to start his lunch. So relatable.
I am from North Jersey. My buddy used to manage Satin Doll's (The Bada Bing). During the day the Sopranos tour bus would come through and people would take pictures and buy t shirts and such. Apparently they had had problems with Gannascoli coming in and trying to sell merch. He had been told (like the drug dealer in Adrianna's club) that he was not welcome there, and there was a time and place at the end of the tour where he WAS allowed to approach customers. My buddy walked up to him and basically said you know better and get out. Joseph responded with "Hey I gotta eat too!" My buddy looked him up and down and said "I think you've eaten enough!" and walked him out. 😂 . Anyhow, I never heard these other stories, but knowing that one for years and hearing these, it all tracks! Great video and love the references you sprinkled in like salt bae! If you ever do another video I'd be happy to reach out to my buddy if you want a firsthand story from a horse's mouth. All the best.
The references are genuinely one of the funniest aspects of this channel, I find myself laughing to them quite often. But, given the fact you're talking about his real life antics, the constant references make it seem like you're not being serious and made me question several times whether you were joking or not. Like an April's fool prank.
the (constant) references are really needy, especially in that slightly goofy voice. Just turning the video off now after what seems like the 22nd dialogue quote in 5 minutes
I saw Joseph Gannascoli at a grocery store in Bedford in 2021. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything. He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?” I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and closing his hand shut in front of my face. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen Milky Ways in his hands without paying. The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter. When she took one of the bars and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually “to prevent any electrical infetterence,” and then turned around and winked gayly at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each bar and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by yawning really loudly...
I am also from Australia and did the sopranos location tour when I was in NYC in 2014. That was my exact experience with him. It’s bizarre seeing this video 10 years later and so many similar experiences 🤦🏻♂️
I just read the two oral history books about the Sopranos(the Vanity Fair one and the Talking Sopranos one), and neither book has him speak about it at all while featuring every other actor. They also never mention him. Not damning, but a little sus Edit: they bring up the character in passing only
Maybe because it was Steve S who was instrumental in poisoning fans against Joey G in the first place. There were others that Talking Sopranos left out for reasons that relate to the podcast hosts.
Steve S does not like him at all, just like Michael Imperioli has issues with Vincent Curatola (Johnny Sack). Given how they invented less important character on TS it is clear some personal animosity played a role in who they invited.
He was the mind and force behind the S6 vito+Johnny Cakes storyline? But then he gets mad when people make jokes about Yonkers, and says he likes brawds?? ... I dunno...
Did a little research - most supporting actors were paid bet $20k-$30k, Gannascoli was in 39 episodes so @ $25k each he would of made total $975k. Sopranos does not pay residuals. So that's not so much for being infamous.
@@DaveSCameronActors are independent contractors, so he’d have to pay 100% of the tax burden. It’s still 6 figures, but it’s not enough to live your life off of.
Don’t forget about the tale of Jim Paying entire cast out of his own pocket when they were on the losing end of a season contract too, there’s no excuses..
I met Gannascoli once. I was coming out of a public restroom and I noticed the sun was blotted out. He tried selling me Yankees tickets and when I turned him down, he grabbed my arm and said something about pool cues I can’t even repeat here. Luckily I got away when I told him someone was giving out free Jhonny cakes and he waddled off like a bat on a hill
I don't know what I like more. A good number of comments claiming "I met him in real life and he was nice" or all the people absolutely roasting him with Sopranos reference.
I wonder if the problem is he was part of something so big. And he's trying to relive that and can't and he feels what kind of stuck in a way that he is never going to here come that big ever again and maybe you can't deal with it personally
Cant be mad at him for trying to make a living. He probably gets annoyed with fans thinking they own him or something. Especially being he got paid jack
No residuals? Can you imagine? On a show that big? He got peanuts basically. Imagine having to get out there and make a dollar and constantly have to deal with weirdos or get the gay jokes for his portrayal..he's probly dealt with a lot just trying to make a living
Back in 2008 we had a benefit for a cousin of mine who tragically got hit by a car and lost his life. Joe was there selling personalized signed photos of him sitting outside or Satriales. I bought one signed to my father and I. I always wondered how much of the money he made that evening was actually donated to the benefit. He seemed like a personable alright guy
During the final season of Sopranos, he used to gonon Howard Stern all the time. He came off as a nice, humble guy. Grateful of the success the show afforded him. And not homophobic. But, then, I was surprised when James Gandolfini died, he gave several interviews to the media about it. The other cast members of The Sopranos were angry, as they claimed he barely knew the man, and that James wasn't particularly fond of him. My guess: a substance abuse issue. He NEEDS to make money to keep out of withdrawal, and gets cranky to say the least when the money isn't forthcoming from fans.
In a show that is seemingly so well witten - I've always been shocked that he was basically an extra and then he was a main character as if the audience wouldn't notice....
Some thing that always annoyed me about this guy was that I heard a story about how he refused to work on a project with the actor who played Matt Bevilacqua-the kid, who was also in a Bronx tale, apparently, that kid did some kind of robbery and his accomplice like killed a cop or something and he ended up going to prison for a few years. Anyway, when he got out he started, you know trying to act again and apparently This Vito Fuck didn’t wanna work on the project with him because of that and I thought what an asshole, the kids trying to turn his life around and do legitimate work and you’re fucking him over so I thought that made him kind of a dick hole. Anyway, $4 a pound.
I must admit, I kind of figured he was a a hole in real life. And I always had a dislike for his character on the show. He played the character a little too well for me. Not surprised at all
If the actor really developed Vito's gay plot then we know that his genius move of "breaking standards and giving a political nod to liberal actors from big Hollywood" failed miserably. Today he is frustrated and remembered for being the guy who sucks dicks on the biggest show in history. This is quite sad. People sell out in the art industry and it takes a heavy toll, even for those who are successful. Those who don't can end up in a very dark way.
That's the story I heard. He thought by going all in on that gay storyline that it was gonna be a career maker for him acting wise. Instead he pissed off the rest of the crew and gets ragged with gay jokes related to the show to this day. 😂

Looks like the kinda guy that would blow up your downstairs bathroom just for a good laugh.
I have met Joseph in person more than a few times. Always nice and I got his cookbook when he was in a restaurant I happen to like a lot.

Not damning, but a little sus
Edit: they bring up the character in passing only
It's weird cause he wasn't on Talking Sopranos but they always seemed to speak highly of him.
Oral you say! Catching or pitching?
Maybe because it was Steve S who was instrumental in poisoning fans against Joey G in the first place. There were others that Talking Sopranos left out for reasons that relate to the podcast hosts.
@@Jondave I think it's plausible
Steve S does not like him at all, just like Michael Imperioli has issues with Vincent Curatola (Johnny Sack). Given how they invented less important character on TS it is clear some personal animosity played a role in who they invited.
Don’t worry Vito has a letter from his Doctor saying he is not a f#g 🤣🤣
Will you take it easy over there, Judge Roy Bean.
My niece met him by accident in the U.K. she didn’t know who he was, as she never saw the series. She said he was a nice guy.
That pool cue...I wonder if it was chalked.
What's sadder is the guy who played Johnny Cakes committed suicide.
Because Joseph likes broads and wouldn't go to the gay pub?
I think these people go about in pity for themselves
Yeah, I'd agree.
Really?
@@johnclay2716 Yeah they're almost human.
He's a psychic celebrity chef now. You don't talk to him like that.
I just laughed out loud.
He was the mind and force behind the S6 vito+Johnny Cakes storyline? But then he gets mad when people make jokes about Yonkers, and says he likes brawds??
... I dunno...
He should have tried to capitalize off of his Gino character, charging for autographs at bakeries and donut shops.
Did a little research - most supporting actors were paid bet $20k-$30k, Gannascoli was in 39 episodes so @ $25k each he would of made total $975k. Sopranos does not pay residuals. So that's not so much for being infamous.
Sure, just a million for few years hey!?!😂😂😂
@@DaveSCameronActors are independent contractors, so he’d have to pay 100% of the tax burden. It’s still 6 figures, but it’s not enough to live your life off of.

I met him on the tour bus in New York, he was selling stuff from his car. Was upfront about the costs and he couldn’t have been a nicer guy.
Joe G: Get yourself a sandwich, any kind you like…that’ll be $20
*Sells overpriced Sopranos autographs, and acts rude towards fans*
Joseph Gannascoli: It's a f*ckin' joke!
Old rule always true. "Never meet your idols." Even if they aren't really your idol, they will never be as good as you may expect them to be.
He was at my favorite liquor store in Long Island, selling his vodka, giving out autographs 😂.
I don't know what I like more. A good number of comments claiming "I met him in real life and he was nice" or all the people absolutely roasting him with Sopranos reference.
heeeey I just realized he wasn't on those reunion shows and I don't recall him guesting on the Talking Sopranos podcast. This gives a good idea why.
Asking if bringing his wife somewhere is like bringing cake to a wedding is wild lmaoo
I wonder if the problem is he was part of something so big. And he's trying to relive that and can't and he feels what kind of stuck in a way that he is never going to here come that big ever again and maybe you can't deal with it personally

Yeah? Maybe you are a flambé..
It was his blood pressure medication
If he were not famous, none of this behavior would be considered "weird". This is normal civilian behavior.

He NEEDS to make money to keep out of withdrawal, and gets cranky to say the least when the money isn't forthcoming from fans.
i'll tell you one thing and I'm not ashamed to say it, my estimation of Joseph Gannascoli as an actor just fucking plummeted.
This makes it seem like Vito Spatafore is actually just pretending to be a guy named Joseph Gannascoli.
In a show that is seemingly so well witten - I've always been shocked that he was basically an extra and then he was a main character as if the audience wouldn't notice....
Your quotes and reference from the show are so fun to pick out. Great video!
So he's the Lonely Virgil of the sopranos? He did make a cameo for my nana and he seemed to genuinely want to please the customer
@CaptainTrips560
Cops sign up to get murdered?
This is how the actor that played Vito is like in real life? How much more betrayal can I take?
I must admit, I kind of figured he was a a hole in real life. And I always had a dislike for his character on the show. He played the character a little too well for me.
Not surprised at all
Would be funny if Gannascoli showed up in the comments on this video trying to sell stuff.
“I signed that poorly photocopied photo of me with Jimmy Gandofini’s arm in the background. That will be $50!”
Met him twice at Vincent’s clam bar in Long Island. Just go there if you wanna meet him lol he’s usually there
Gay character played by a homophobic actor, now THERE’S an image…
Joseph Gannascoli never had the makings of a varsity scammer
The comment about the Pool cue and the fans inviting him out to a gay bar had me rolling 🤣🤣
Why? Sounds like he was being harrassed by homophobes for playing a gay character. Unless I'm missing some context
