    "A don doesn't wear shorts."
Throughout The Sopranos, Tony certainly has his fare share of enemies and antagonists that we see throughout the series. From the toxic mother had to deal with for a majority of his life, to the plethora of nagging girlfriends, to his wife Carmela, the FBI, and even the multiple rats that try and take down Tony and his family, Tony certainly has to watch his back at all times. But there';s no enemy that causes Tony more stress than his close friends in New York in The Lupertazzi Crime Family. No matter who their boss was, from Phil, Johnny, to even Carmine Lupertazzi Sr., they always costed Tony millions of dollars.

I can't believe how much my feelings about them have changed! My first time watching, I honestly always preferred the earlier stories about Tony having an antagonist within his family as opposed to grappling with external parties. But on my most recent view, I found the Lupertazzis to be fascinating!
Carmine Sr. was such a competent boss, and I came to finally understand the Season 4 plot regarding his dispute with Tony on the Esplanade split. I now love watching that part and all of the background dealings that Carmine and Johnny make against one another. It was also a lot of fun watching the war between Johnny and Little Carmine play out, along with Phil's ascension after John's short reign. These are now some of my favorite parts of the show given my love of political intrigue stories!
This is one of the rare videos where I learned something completely new, as I never noticed the Paglieri family! So cool that multiple New York families were represented in that final sit-down. I also didn't realize Doc Santaro was acting boss during Phil' hospital visit, or that Torciano was Phil's protege. The graphic included with the video is a really useful resource. Even more excited for my next watch through now! 💜

I really think the Lupertazzis replaced the Lucchese Crime Family in the Sopranos. There have been references to former bosses/members of the other four families except for the Luccheses(I think). The names Teresi, Mangano, Infante and Paglieri are probably just the names of the current bosses and so other mobsters would refer to the families by their bosses’ names. Plus Phil was like Vic Amuso who started a war with their NJ crew so the similarities are there.

I always thought that the show-runners didn’t know that there are other mafia’s in Italy, and just assumed it was all mafia (Cosa Nostra), across Italy.
Some confusing things come from that too (not just that the clan seems to be structured like the mafia), like Furio coming over.
He would have had to be made, and also adapt to a new culture, as Camorra clans work quite differently - even those that did affiliate with the Sicilians, and were officially inducted into Cosa Nostra, didn’t have their clans members made along with it, so I don’t know why Furio is assumed to be a made guy…..
(In fairness, it’s confusing to the point I’ve confused myself with this comment 😂, so maybe the showrunners didn’t want to confuse the audience by explaining about Camorra, ‘Ndrangeta, Società foggiana etc…

What makes you think that Butch was incompetent? I'm thinking it was Butch who took out Tony in the end with help from someone in the Soprano crew. It would be easy for one of Tony's crew to turn on him. By the last season, Tony is so corrupted by his vices, weaknesses, & character flaws that it would have been pretty clear that he had to be taken out. Take Tony out, & deal with whoever is left. I’m not so sure about that whole thing about Ginny’s other brother being the boss of a family.
If that was the case, why did she have to go back to working like a civilian after Johnny passed away and the fallout with Phil? I know at one point they specifically mentioned that she had to go back to working like a civilian. I don’t think that would’ve been the case if her brother was the boss of a New York family. Could be an accidental retcon or misunderstanding or something.
