Good info! Happened to my less than 600 mile Tiger 1200 Rally Pro. I needed the regular key to hold it by the sensor to start the bike. It was reasonably cold and the bike is a 2023 at the end of the season. I went in and moved the battery a bit and it works. That battery is "in" there and I'm not going to dig deep to get it till the battery is dead. We shall see how it does. Thanks for sharing the video. Two thumbs up!!
You’re a legend had issues for 6 months and even the dealers were struggling to sort, I did exactly what you suggested along with packing a foam spot on the battery to pack out, worked brilliantly!! Big cheers to you 👍
Yes, I've had an enormously frustrating time with my 1200 Scrambler keyless ignition. It's terrible leaving home and not knowing if the bike will start away from home. I was stranded twice and the dealer blamed it on me not taking care of the battery properly. Now I know what the true problem is. Thank you!!
I got stranded in a desert in west texas for 3 hours because of my scrambler. I had to hike 3 miles before I could get the barest hint of reception to call a buddy to come get me. Once he got there, the fob started working again. Here I am 6 months later and my fob isn't working again. Nothing I've done can get it to work. Just had it sent to a shop, they fixed it after 2 months. Worked fine once it got home, now it isn't working again. Absolutely ridiculous.

Just changed my battery and hopefully didn't do any damage! The battery is a swine to get out and its the 3rd in 3 years. Same bike as yours. Rather than a metal screw driver, something non metallic might be better. Thank you for taking the time to make this video.
Legendary! I did not even touch the contacts or removed the battery. First, I squeezed the fob as you suggested, the bike started right up. I then opened the case and applied a small circular sticker on the battery and placed another one on the plastic case. Working now. Let's see if it holds.
I suppose a poor connection would mean the green light wouldn't flash when you briefly press the triumph button ? My speed triple wouldn't start the 2032 battery was 3 v ? But i put a new one in 3.2 v and it did start ...but i will check the contacts later Best wishes mark
Wow. Fixed it right up. 10 minutes after I tried your brilliant solution I'm still dumbstruck by how terrible a design this is and how easily it was to fix.
Pleased it worked for you. Sadly, you will find it will probably keep doing it. I have found that it is less likely to recur by leaving the key "switched on" in standby mode but also, if it goes "dead" again, simply use the key in passive mode to start the bike and then miraculously, the key starts working again . . . without having to fiddle with the battery as per my video. Bottom line is it's an appalling design and very unreliable.
Thanks - new GT explorer here same problem. As Indont want to have surprises on trips I solidered the 2 contacts. For start it works, hope it solves it long term
I haven't been able to boot my speed triple the last couple of days. I figured the battery was shot. I did check the battery in fob already...didn't think it could be the connections. Hopefully I didn't push down too far when removing the battery in it. I will try cleaning the terminals. Thanks!
Hi - be very careful removing the battery an in particular, cleaning/bending the terminals as you don’t want to risk snapping them. I have also found that sometimes when the smart key won’t work, it’s worth starting the bike with the key in passive mode - ie, held on top of the rear shock. This sometimes then allows the key to then subsequently work in Smart mode . . . there’s clearly an issue here with Triumph’s crappy design I’m afraid.
Thank you for the tip, i found my rocket after the winter months not starting but i get some beeping sounds with any keys. I wonder what my dealer says tomorrow.
A different issue I suspect as with this problem the bike appears dead and doesn’t respond at all. Good luck with it though. I hope you get it sorted OK👍
that s excellent , i have been having issues with on and off low battery warning signs and sometimes no signals to start the bike. I instinc tively pushed down on teh key fob and it worked also :)
Thanks a million for the most simple solution to the ridiculous piece of junk keyless key fob. My previous Explorer neven missed a beat for 100.000 miles in 12 years on the same battery it left the factory. This 2021 one already had its battery changed, as well the one in the key twice. What a joke.
I have had problems with my 2021 Tiger 1200 when the ignition would not react. I reported the issue to the dealership when I took it for a service and they made a note of it. Now the warranty has expired would Triumph rectify it as I reported it whilst the warranty was still current. who knows.

Hi Jonny, since making this video, the problem has recurred and so whilst this video does provide one explanation, it is not the entire story. After adjusting the contacts and leaving my key "switched off" for a period, the bike was once again dead when I tested the fob two weeks later. There are a couple more explanations worth bearing in mind a. there are branded CR2032 batteries available on eBay, many of which are counterfeit and fail to maintain their rated voltage. In order to be sure, it is worth buying your batteries from a bricks and mortar supplier such as B&Q, Boots, Tesco etc b. when mine failed again, I simply removed the battery and replaced the SAME battery back into the fob and it immediately started working again. It is quite possible that when the fob is left switched off for a protracted period, it needs some form of "hard reset" in order to communicate with the bike once again. When I removed the battery, its voltage was 3.2V or thereabouts and so the issue was clearly not battery related and yet simply removing and replacing it had it working again and without messing with the contacts in any way. For this reason, I am still testing the thing and looking for an obvious cause. With the battery removed, I did test the resistance over the battery contacts and whilst the resistance was in the order of Mega ohms, it isn't open circuit and so even with the key switched off, there is a minute drain on the battery but it is possible that when left in this state for a prolonged period, the damn thing loses sync with the bike and the reason it then worked simply by removing and reinstalling the same battery - the next test I can try is to leave the key stored in the "on" position. Whilst this isn't so good from the security point of view, if it stops the key losing sync then I will do it. When I have a definitive answer, I will annotate this video in the description but until then, it's work in progress. What I can say with some certainty, is the problem is definitely the key and not the bike . . . at least in my case. You and I are not alone - it seems many Triumph owners are plagued with problems with this idiotic keyless system
@@ybliga thank you for your answer. This is very disillusioning. I was thinking to ask my dealer to remove the keyless system from my bike, but i think that this is not possible. I could read in my owner manual that the us-models do have an additional ignition key, perhaps this could solve the problem. There is some time till the season is starting again…🏍🤔🏍
@@jonnydoey6184 - you can always use the key passively if you want. It doesn't even need a battery in it - just hold it against the sensor when powering up the bike
When it’s not responding to the key, the bike is completely dead with one exception - there’s a red light which flashes on the dash after pressing and releasing the power-on button. This happens regardless of whether or not the key is on/off or indeed, elsewhere and we’ll away from the bike!!
Effectively a reboot. Unfortunately this didn’t work for me but would be worth trying as a first step. I actually store my key disabled anyway but I suspect many peeps don’t and this is always worth a try 👍

Good Video thank you. I have had a problem but just in one place and I think it may be some over head high tension power lines.
Same to me on a brand new bike... moved the contacts up and down a few times and blew the fob clean.. NO more issues... legend 👍👍👍

I found out it is normally the negative terminals that discolour just give them a scratch with something sharp it sorted out my fob 👍

Actually the screw size to remove the cover is a T6 Torx not a allen key as suggested.
The key fobs probably vary then as mine is an Allen! 👍
are you sure?, you even said the allen you used was not tight, sounds like yours is a Torx as well

You need a t6 (torx) screwdriver for the key fob .
They might vary from model to model but mine is definitely a hex, Allen key 👍
