I was missing a few panels of antique fencing for the herb garden. In this video I'll show you how I replicated the cast iron fencing using rebar. I've created an easy way to make a rustic trellis for sweet peas , (or any light weight vine), planted in a large pot.

You inspire me Jeri. With gardening, I sometimes think I can't do it all, I'm pushing 70. But, then your video comes out and I think, Oh, I can do that. So I keep trying. Bless you.
I'm 70.... still going strong, even with the aches and pains of age.
Hi Jeri I have followed you for years and am very grateful for your videos and knowledge that you provide. I went antique shopping last week and to my delight I found some of your artwork. I knew what it was right away even though I had never seen that particular piece before. It is the "How bountiful is the earth" (I believe) It is now a beautiful statement in my home. Love and God bless
Oh that's great! The Good Earth is one of my favorite pieces>
I didn’t know you were an artist also….would love to see some of your work 🥰

This woman is a living artist.
I love your style of gardening. You are an inspiration to me esp the projects you do
love the idea for tomato cages and ivy! I have lots of virginia creeper I'm always pulling up - could use that too and grape vines. Thanks! 68 years young and still gardening here - itching to get out there! We have long, cold winters here in Vermont so I am so ready for Spring!

Простите, если обидела... Я ветеринарный врач и вижу, что эти добавки работают плохо. Много лет помогаю животным и с такими проблемами. Не хотела обидеть. Просто очень жаль собаку. 😘
You are so innovative and one incredible lady!!!
Thank you Jeri for another round of interest and inspiration!!💛🤎💛

@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow Thanks so much. I plan to make some garden vidios this year which I hope you will enjoy
Love seeing the progress. Happy planting😊❤️
Lovely! Building that fence was a fabulous idea and loved the tomato cage trellis idea. You come up with the neatest ideas. Spring is going to be so lovely there! Looking forward to a morning coffee walk with you. Thank you for sharing with us. 💜🌷🐑
The gardens are going to be beautiful as always. I particularly enjoy the sounds of nature and all the animals in the background. Blessings
Impressive my lovely friend…you are a plan maker ‘par excellence’. I love how that fence turned out in the end.🙌🏻 I’m also taking note of your suggestion to give the tomato cages a more natural appearance by twining it with the ivy cuttings. I have wisteria and honeysuckle cutoffs I can use. I’m looking forward to see how your garden rooms will unfold as the season progresses. Blessings xxx.
Those promiscuous vines do have some very good uses.
love all you do!
I have a very similar herb garden. It is divided into six beds only they are square and I have my strawberry hot in the middle. I was lucky enough to live in a place a few years ago that had old brick piled up everywhere and I took tons of it with me when I moved, so I made brick pathways in between the beds where I can walk, without harming any plants, the beds are one in each corner and two in the middle of those and then the pathways go between them is very pretty and the mass is starting to grow on my bricks. I’ve only had it less than a year last year I grew dill Parsley , basil oregano, lemon balm, chives, strawberries, and a few other things that I can’t remember lol this year I’m excited because some things have come back which I did not think that any of them would …Oh yes, Rosemary ..that was the other one! I can’t wait to see what’s gonna come up by itself this year so far the chives have come back and the parsley and the lemon balm which I did not know was a mint type plant that grows prolifically but yes, I have lots of lemon, balm and I’m hoping my dill will come back because it dropped a lot of seeds…
Sounds like a lovely garden. I rue the day i planted a tiny pot of Lemon Balm, Now, it is everywhere and I cannot get rid of it.
Love the sturdy Fiesta plate you are using for your finials.
It looks like fiestaware, but it actually came from wallmart!
🤦🏼♀️☺️
You are amazing. Thank you for sharing.
Hi Jerri ❤
Your gardens are absolutely Charming 💕🌷
I have 2 big wisteria Trees that I can cut vines from .
They grow so fast.
Everything is just Beautiful.
Thank You for sharing and I'm looking forward to your next video.
God Bless 🙏🌹
That is so cool how you rusted them!
Such a lovely idea for a trellis!
Loved seeing your garden and projects. Thank you for posting.
You create the most pretty of settings.xx🐝🐝
Love your garden. Magical.
I love watching your videos-Thank you for all you do!❤
Love your garden, it's so beautiful 😍 And you are such an inspiration. I just can't wait for the snow to disappear😅🪻🌷
As always, very inspiring. Those woven garden baskets are on my to-do list this year, scouting out supplies around the garden. Rain day for me, so more seed starting.
Love the woven baskets, and they last a good long time depending on the branches and twigs you weave them with. Willow and locust are really good.
It all looks lovely! I have sweet peas waiting to be planted out- love your ivy & tomato-trellis idea!♥
Thank you for sharing. Love your channel.
Love your creativity and your beautiful gardens! I’m going to attempt the rebar fence! Such a great idea!
You amaze me with how much energy you have.
I just love your ideas for the garden. Your fencing is beautiful and I'm definitely going to use your ivy vine tomato cage idea. And to think I've just been tossing all those vines every year!
You are an inspiration, so creative, your fences are very clever and whimsical too! And sweet sweet Spenser 🤍!!!
Jeri, you are so inspiring! I love gardening, but do have back issues, so I can't do all that you do, but I do love it.
You are so talented --- I enjoy watching your videos so much! Thankyou.
Hi, I listened to you several years ago and haven’t listened for a long time, I’m glad I found you again!
I do love all your vine creations. I'm going to have to try the tomato vine trellis! First I have to wait for some vines. I actually don't have any, not any perennial vines. I do have some wisteria growing, however, it's not old enough to give me much to prune yet. I've tried honeysuckle and Carolina Jessamine, but haven't gotten it established yet--mainly due to grasshopper devastation rather than the heat. I have a Sweet Autumn Clematis that does well, so I'll need to remember your projects next spring before I prune to see if that's suitable for something, though it is very thin vine. I purchased some grapes so if they do well maybe I'll have some vines to prune in years to come. This year, if I do any of your creations, I may just have to forage around the ditches in the area to see if I can find something sturdy enough to make something like your woven baskets. Love them! Thanks again for another inspirational video! Can hardly wait to see the next one! Thank you!
Any young green branches from trees should work as well. I often use the Rose of Sharon Prunings for these projects.
Wonderful video. You inspire me. Thank you.
I love what you did, great job. It looks great. Love your garden
Thank you for sharing ☺️❤️🌻
I love your garden Jeri. I always look forward to seeing it grow every year and all your interesting projects you show us. Yes, we all have to make adjustments when we have pets but I wouldn’t be without them, even the wild ones, birds, squirrels and bunnies. I agree about ivy, after 30 years of fighting it, it still keeps coming back, but now you showed me another use for it. Thank you. 💕
You're so creative and an inspiration for other gardeners 🌝🌸🌱🌷💕
Your gardens very creative!
Wow! Love those tomato cages! I had those and always tried to keep out of sight when not in use… but wow, now I want to try that with grapevines!
Hi Geri! Absolutely love your videos and appreciate all the knowledge you share!!! I would love to try making this fence. God Bless!
How creative and inspiring!
Hi Jeri 👋
I have just come across your channel and I must say it’s wonderful. Cannot wait to see your garden when everything has flourished. Take care Louise X
Thank you and welcome!
I always love your garden videos so much! Love the ivy idea on the tomato cages! I’ve made wreaths to go on bamboo trellis teepees out of them before, but this idea was brilliant! I hate that the welding stuff you bought didn’t work like you hoped. Years ago I used to make a lot of mixed media junk art and I came to the point that I really needed to learn how to weld, but knowing myself, felt like it wouldn’t be a safe thing for me to take on. I was hoping the stuff you found would work.😫 So many other things I want to say, but my comment is getting too long, but you should show yourself on your videos more. You are so beautiful!
Oh, My husband is going to purchase a welder now!
So wonderful to see your beautiful self in this video!! I really love all of your trellises and I need to build some this spring to bring in some vertical interest.
I love so many vines that need to travel Upwards, it's good to have a lot of trellis ideas.
Thank you. Lovely!
Just beautiful ❤
just Love your place !! So Amazing and relaxing. Thank you for sharing :)
Beautiful and just what I need to do for myself. I'll be working on this as soon as I can. lol
Thank you Jeri. Cheers
Oh, how clever!
You’re incredible!
Great video!!
Hi jerri, love your videos wish they weren’t so far apart! I wish I could let my chickens free range but I can’t afford for them to tear apart my beds, they are mulched to keep the weeds down and retain moisture! Our summers are brutal! You should show yourself more just adds to the beauty 😊
Free range chickens can be a PAIN!
Love watching your videos. I use black wire trash cans from Dollar Tree to turn upside down on my plants.
Yes, i use those as well, they work great and are very cheap.
I do that on my safety pins for primitive old world crafts I sell
Works great! Love it!!!!!
Yes, It seems like the mixture would have all kinds of uses..
I was wondering how strong jb weld would have held. I solved this problem with my home made fences and I should be showing that in my next video. But it’s made of light weight conduit instead of rebar. I think rebar needs real welding.
I admit, I didn't have much confidence in that epoxy. Looks like I need to take a welding class after all. I look forward to your fences, you are always so clever and inventive.
Muito obrigada, casa com jardim lindíssima ! Abração ! 😊👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻♥️♥️🌎🌳🌴🌷🌺🌹🌼🌻🌲🌳🌴🌷🌺🌹🌼🌻🌹🌲🌳🌍♥️♥️♥️
Джери, я восхищаюсь и преклоняюсь перед Вами! У Вас доброе сердце и золотые руки. Всегда с нетерпением жду Ваши видио как встречу с хорошим другом. Храни Вас Господь. С уважением к Вам, Наталия из России.
That is very nice of you!
What a neat.idea for the iron fence. I'm sure a neighbor has an welder and wouldn't cost u much. Gee if u were in Ohio my son would do it free just to met u. With love.❤
Как всегда ваше трудолюбие меня восхищает!
Jeri your hair is absolutely beautiful oh to have thick hair mine is very thin ,and I love the tomato cages idea how earthy and natural they look amongst your rustic lovely gardens , your big beautiful fur baby is so handsome is he a perienese ? I probably didn't spell that correctly 😉 your so eclectic in everything you do so talented, I've just started some vegetable seeds indoors today ,as soon as I get the soil I need for filling my flower pots there next ,it's amazing how much soil you loose over the winter, I'm in reynoldsburg ohio, the fences are very cool ,how did you get the square finials on the rebarb? I love everything you do here in Hop a long Hallow ,thank your for your wonderful hospitality Jeri Tata for now ,love is the key, always 💞 🐿🐇
Hi there, from Columbus!
The finials fit over the top of the rebar and the JB welding held those in place easily.
Yeah…another video!
You're so cool! I hope you do learn to weld. I'm interested in learning it myself.
Jeri , you inspire me with each garden video to look with new eyes at what something could be used for other than what it is ! I love the tips on how to make something rusty and the tomato cage trellis ! Brilliant ! In your last video , you said it’s time to winter sow nasturtiums. Can I sow them now even in our cold , snowy climate ? Our nighttime lows are still in the 20’s .
I'm in zone 7, quite a bit warmer than you. You may want to wait for a month, or seed in trays.
Thank you dearheart !
Saudades dos vídeos amo muito ❤ parabéns pelo seu cultivo esforço criatividade e dedicação ameiiii ❤️❤ bjsss 😘😘😘🇧🇷🇧🇷🏖️🏖️🏖️
Muito obrigado!
A flower farmer I follow on Instagram that focuses mostly on sweet peas said it is unnecessary to presoak them. Just plant straight from the package. I was shocked since we always hear we have to presoak them 😮
I've tried many methods with peas, and I don't think soaking makes much of a difference either; however, they often germinate in the cup of water if you soak them for over a day... I like to see that happen! Flower farmers have to plant a lot more than I do.
The fence looks great. You didnt really think glue would hold that? Welding won't hold on rust either, I just love you!!
Hahaha, I had my doubts about the metal epoxy, but the directions assured me of its holding power. Actually, only a few joints came loose, I reglued and all is well so far.
Looks so pretty Jeri,I planted 50 bulbs, the skunks and squirrels dug up and ate all of them.Oh well,... someone enjoyed them!An tips on protecting them? Thanks Jeri!
I would lay wire fencing (like goat or garden fencing), flat on the ground, over the area where the bulbs are planted, secure it to the ground with landscape staples and leave it in place until the stems appear above ground.
Hello Jeri, a rainy day here in south Arkansas, which provides a great relaxing time to watch your video, always a joy and come away with more ideas. ") I made a similar fence as you several years ago using the slatted wooden rolled fence, which I cut in half , using the rebar as stability for the fence, I ordered and put a tulip finial. At that time I did not know of the diy to make rust, but they have over these years turned. Your fence looks authentic and I do hope the weld holds up. I noticed the tall bee skep. Did you make that? Is it of concrete? I have made a small concrete one but am now wanting to see if I can make one as yours, it is such a great added charm to your garden. In Joy
My husband went out and bought all the welding equipment in case my fence doesn't hold!
I didn't make that skep, I purchased it at a craft fair. It looks more natural than concrete, perhaps they added dye to the mix.
Love all you do, how did you attach the sticks for the stick fence, I couldn’t tell it looks tied somehow?
I have collected a lot of really long pussy willow and need advice on attaching them? For a stick fence like you made
Hmmm. I use, very successfully, vinegar to remove rust from metal... simply cover/ soak any rusted item, tool or whatever with white vinegar and let sit for days till rust is loosed and wipe clean..
Where there’s a will there’s a way!!
I see your "invaders" at the end of this wonderful video! Dog is huge!
That was Liam, he's the old guy, 13 yrs old. The 2 "pups" are the worst troublemakers as they are only 1 yr old
I love the idea of using tomato cages instead of having to buy those expensive trellises 👍🏼did you make the pergola also?
My husband built the Pergola about 7 years ago, it is wonderful!
He did a great job 👍🏼 I had an arbor my Dad had made me but after some 20-15 yrs it’s gone now. I would love one to plant roses on both sides❤️
Also I would like to make the fence with the rebar, but not sure where I can get the finials for the top? It so unique ❤️
🌼💝🌼
👍🥰🥰
You could try wiring them with the JP Weld for a temporary hold
I did wire them, it'll hold for a while.
Your idea is great though and I’d like to try it. 😊I was hoping the JB Weld would work because I bought it to repair my trellis so I was disappointed to hear of your experience.
The rusting of the finials was also a great idea-who knew?!😮
@@ksto1427I think it works well with a lighter weight metal, so your could probably repair a trellis. The rebar is just too heavy.
Thanks for your response 😊
What you may not realize is that my dog is 13 years old and has arthritis, just like me. Our dogs are well cared for and live a very long time. He has supplements that help him.
I absolutely hate ivy it's so invasive and you can't kill it my neighbor has it next to my yard it's taken over and I can't grow anything else and I've tried everything
I understand your pain, 😂 it nearly covered the entire side of our house. I killed it by sawing off the main root.
❤❤❤❤❤🇺🇸❤❤❤❤❤
JUST WONDERING YOUR PROCESS FOR PLANTING
THE ACTUAL SEEDS. OF .
SWEET. PEAS
YOUR. IDEA. OF THE STRUCTURE FOR THEM TO GROW ON. IS REALLY GOOD
SCOTT'S WIFE VICKIE
I have a video on different ways to plant sweet peas here: ruclips.net/video/jUxCi9nHbjQ/видео.html
I think the best way to plant them is to soak them for a day and then plant them straight into the garden
We have wallabies who think this garden is their private 5* Gourmet Salad Bar 😢🦘🦘🦘🦘
LOL! My son lives in Australia, good thing he doesn't garden!
