As always Jeri everything looks divine. I LOVE beets, always one of my favorites. Thank you for sharing this recipe, I will be trying it just as soon as my beets are ready in the garden. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing a piece of your life with us.
Hello Jeri. So lovely to finally get to watch this video. I’ve had my two youngest grandchildren for a month while my son and wife get over Covid. Not a lot of time to watch anything so this was a beautiful time spent with you. The beets gorgeous and salad looked amazing. Lavender is so hard to grow but so lovely. I have learned so much from your garden tours! My garden is doing quite well from listening to your suggestions on fixing issues with certain plants. Oh, and I love your baby ducklings and your sneak peek of your bunnies on the table. So very cute!
You really did grow some beautiful beets. I made a similar salad but with pickled beets and goat cheese. So good! I loved hearing about your herb garden!
Great ideas for lavender! I had some doing well for years, then when I replaced them, the new plants died. I'm going to try adding vermiculite and lime.
Jeri. You grew some beautiful beets! So nice and l know your salad was wonderful! Your videos are great and filled with so much inspiring information!! Thank you!
I think I’m going to try to do something like this circle that you did I have an area that has just sitting there making a try mess in my yard but I wouldn’t be able to make one as big as yours because I my yard is not as big but I think what I need to do is really consider trying to do something like this this was just beautiful when you were done I really really loved how it turned out thank you so much for sharing such a great video with us today
I loved touring your beautiful herb garden! I love growing herbs as well they are so much fun. except my rosemary never gets that large, it's more of an annual for us. That was impressive! Also I may try your idea with the lavender, because mine ends up looking just like your sad one did as well. Also I love beets and am going to try that salad, it looks yummy! Thank you for doing your videos, I look forward to them all!
Wonderful beet salad Jeri and thank you for a walk through your kitchen garden! Hoping to catch your next emporium too, unfortunately I missed the last one and the chicks must have been darling! August is flying by so fast!
Dear Jeri...years back I followed you on your blog and was delighted to rediscover you through your wonderful RUclips videos. Thank you for inspiring me, for showing me that living life on your own terms, when possible, is the absolute best. In the past week, I've started pulling weeds from neglected flowers beds, embraced the beautiful antiques I have in my humble home, and I'm slowly finding my way back to a life I thought I'd left behind years ago. I'm even going to try my hand at needle felting, as soon as I get the needles, wool and foam. My first project will be an acorn. I've watched so many of your videos and love each and everyone. The beet salad is must make. Again, thank you from the bottom of my heart. BTW... love lavender and grew massive amounts once upon a time. Perhaps again some day.
I know I'm late to finding and commenting on this video but I have to say, THANK YOU, for taking your time and sharing such wonderful visual coverage as well as such detailed information on so many plants which I've wondered about. I'm having terrible success with my Lamb's Ears. And my Obedience Plant just up and died and I have no idea why. But I love the layout of your herb garden and think I will try to use your plan. Again, thank you!
@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow oh my goodness, I had no idea about the obedience plant. I may have pulled it up. 😩 I can't tell you how much I appreciate you replying to my comment... I'm learning so much from your videos. I'm also learning from you to not take things so seriously. Your spirit in the garden is one I would greatly love to emulate.
Hello Jerry, because of the lavender: this plant needs earth, which is not!!fertile. It‘s a Mediterranean plant. So the Earth should be stony. The plant you bought need not be healthy, mostly they get much fertiliser to be sold quickly. After blossoming time is finished, I cut my lavenders back, nearly to the stems, but not into the old wood, maybe they don’t grow anymore, when you cut too short. They thrive out and next year they are healthy and look fine. Not too much water, that’s right and they need full sun the whole day. Besides, you can make cuttings from the plant, to save it for next year. 10cm sticks, tear off the bottom leaves and put it into a pot, so that only the upper part is looking out of the compost. You can put it into the shadow over summer, next year you have many new healthy plants. Works always. Best wishes! 🙋♀️🐝🌱🌱🌱🌸🐧🪶🐝🥀
I planted two lavender plants this spring in large pots for my deck and they now look exactly like yours, crispy leaves. Wasn't sure what to do with them. Will put them in the ground now hoping they survive. Thanks Jeri for this wonderful video. I enjoy each and every one.
My Mom absolutely loves loves beets. I wish I liked them but they are not my cup of tea. 😂. I would like to learn how to pickle them for her, so please show us if you cannot . That would be a really fun video. 😘
In the Austin tx area, I saw a lavender farm that used chipped stone, probably granite or limestone. The lavender was growing great, I didn't see soil, just the chips.
A beautiful herb garden. I have the same issue with lavender, I think it's our humid southern weather.(even in rocky soil) I have most of the same herbs, mine are in old galvanized tubs that I've picked up over the years while out thrifting, my sage is ten years old of more, it to is evergreen in my garden. I hope you don't get too much rain from Fred, I'm spending the wet day indoors canning veggie soup.
There is a herb named Par-Cel which is grown for its celery tasting leaves which may have made a tasty addition to your roast beet salad. It can also be used in soups and stews so you might consider growing it sometime. Enjoyed the video Jeri.
Hi Jeri, loved watching this. I guess you used a variety of lavender that can tolerate your humidity in the US; I’m certainly no expert on varieties but Google says Phenomenal lavender was best. In our UK garden we grow Hidcote and Munstead because they like the dry heat on a south facing wall where it often gets 6 hours of sun. Our ground is stony and poor there, no compost really just thin soil. I love your garden style and your creativity! I’m going to try your beetroot salad. We also like it with Greek feta cheese, chopped apple and red onion and a balsamic dressing 🤗🌱🦋
Yum, and another beautiful table...chiclets underneath has to be the best part! :-) Thanks for sharing about your troubles with lavender, we all struggle with that one. I live in 6a (supposedly) and every couple years I'd lose all my herbs. I thought it was the dips into arctic temps for a week every few winters. What I finally learned was because this is a clay region, it was caused by the soil holding too much moisture through the winter. So now I dig out a large pot size hole, fill with bagged garden soil, then plant....hope that's really a solution.
Comfrey is also used for healing bones I believe is what I read? It helps knit broken bones quicker. My soil here is sandy and dry my lavender does very well!
That could be true, it seems I read something like that concerning Comfrey. Another plant is actually called "Boneset" supposedly because of it's healing qualities.
Jeri, I've tried several times without success to gtow lavenders, so frustrating. The one I have now is half dead. Always grow in pots because the soil here in Georgia is mostly rock. Always enjoy your shows, stay well.
Lavender...I feel your pain. I had a beautiful lavender plant that I started at one of our parsonages. Now I can't keep them alive. Let us know how Licorice is doing. The salad looks yummy 😋. Blessings
I tried the beet salad and it was so darn good. I used some local honey and baby greens in mine. I also tried using the ricotta but will try the hard white cheese next time. It was pretty too. :)
Hello Jeri, I want to tell you a little bit about lavender. I owned a 10 acre organic farm in Australia and I had rows of lavender as hedges. Very dry climate where I’m from and I only watered them once a week but a very heavy watering and only from the bottom not the leaves or branches if helped. Also once lavender is established they HATE to be moved and MOST will die they don’t like there feet ( roots) messed with at all. If they have died off like you showed, gently cut away the dead part and leave, you might have luck or not. Watching you lift them up and repotting them is like shell shock for them. I also worked for a garden nursery here in the USA. Hope this helps a little and best of luck in the future. Love your videos thanks😊😊
Jeri. There is an herb tonic l heard of. Jerry Baker does this. 1cup tea, 1/2 tbsp of bourbon, 1/2 tbsp ammonia, 1/2 tbsp of hydrogen peroxideand put in 1 gallon of water. Mix all the ingredients in a bucket. Feed herb plants with it every 6weeks throughout growing season. You could try this. I have tried his tonics for flowers and they all worked wonderfully
I'm a huge fan of pickled beets but I was surprised how much I didn't enjoy them roasted. That tea sounds very interesting. Looking forward to the next video. :)
I planted a medicinal tea garden this year, with borage, lemon verbena, camomile, scullcap, valerian, calendula, tulsi basil, lavender, and the invasive lemon balm . I can see I may need to dig it out and put into a container as already it is taking up too much real estate in the garden. I always enjoy visits in your gardens, the serenity of the space ( shared with licorice) and the knowledge you plant in us. Thanks 🙏
Hiya Jeri soo enjoyed today’s visit and chat with you. Lavender my fave in all aspects and as like you I have troubles I will conquer one day? Lol! oh! interesting about the anise hyssop as I do like licorice tea, etc. Oh and blessings to Licorice the chick. Blessings to you and yours Thankyou Luv Ontario Canada 🐝
I've got a big lavender plant in a container in part shade just waiting for fall when I can plant it. It really likes lots of hard pruning. I believe that pruning is essential for vigorous lavender. Even if you are working with tiny plants, consider pruning them to stimulate their regeneration. After reading comments, I may bury some pieces of cinder block where I plan to establish a future lavender garden. -- Stephie McCarthy
Loved the tour of your herb garden! It’s looking really beautiful. I too have trouble with my lavender. Like you, I’m in a similar situation with all the rain and humidity (I’m in Eastern Ky). It’s a favorite, so I continue to grow it to find a way to make it work. We do have some lavender farms here in Ky, so I know it’s possible. It’s just a matter of finding the magic growing conditions fir this area. I’m not going to give up on it…lol! Loved your dishes, as usual! I enjoy seeing them all so much. 😊
Yes, we really do have the same conditions. There are several Lavender farms here in Tn as well, I don't know HOW they do it! ALavender that has done the best for me is called Phenomenal Lavender, does well in our humidity, give that one a try. I had 5 of them that lived for about 6 years. But the color of the leaves is more of a grayish green and not as pretty as English or Grosso Lavender.
@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow I’m not positive, but I think that is one I tried last year that is actually still alive. I’m going to check tomorrow. I’ll have to make sure to plant that one, if I don’t already have it. It’s been raining here for two days now, so that’s not going to help my lavender 🙁. Thanks so much Jeri for the info. Next spring I’m going to work on my soil, and make a specific space for growing lavender. I’m determined….lol! 😊
Wow, wow wow double wow.

Thanks 🙏
That sounds lovely! Yes, you best move that Lemon Balm to a pot. I need to add Calendula and Chamomile to this little space next year.
The pruning is important, starting on very young plants, that's true.
Jeri, I am hearing about the floods in Middle Tennessee, and I hope you are ok.
Nice beets!
Such a lovely and informative video, as usual. Thanks for sharing;)
Jeri another great video, I hope the little chick make it. Happy Gardening.
She will, she just needs time to heal.
@@JeriLandersofHopalongHollow I sure she will with your tender loving ❤
