After a long winter , it's good to get back to garden clean-up and this Little herb garden ( formerly the Colonial herb garden) which needed a lot of help. With a antique iron fence and a few changes, it has become more of a Victorian Herb garden. In part 2, next week, I'll show you how I made the "new" fence panels.

Love seeing all the signs of spring! I too just recently took a walk around my little garden to see if anything is popping up and was pleasantly surprised to already see the hellebore with a couple blooms! I'm in Zone 7. Can't wait to see your garden in full spring bloom! It's going to be beautiful!

Thank you for the inspiration! I've been neglectful for the past couple months and my garden is in such a state I'm ashamed of it. Your garden always motivates me to get back out there and do at least a little something. Even if it's simply picking up sticks and pruning hydrangeas. I also have pieces of iron fence that I move about. It can be frustrating to be short a few pieces! I'm looking forward to seeing your solution to that problem! I was so happy to see you had posted this new video! I'm always looking for them. Thank you! I think I'm just as interested to see what's happening in your wonderful gardens as I am in my own. I've been planting bulbs, late as usual, and seeing lots of the ones from previous years coming up and finally blooming this week! I too really am amazed and thrilled when things return. I'll have an abundance of larkspur and chamomile this year, that will be great. I planted thousands and thousands of wildflowers and poppies too in my wildflower meadow, and there are many returning from previous years, so I'm anxiously waiting to see them. I have tulips coming up too, in pots, which I planted last month. And I'm just beginning to plant my vegetable garden. So much work to do. I loved seeing how James brought you flowers for Valentines! That's a wise man, to bring you flowers that will return year after year. Which reminded me, I wanted to ask you, are you familiar with the Southern Bulb Company? I buy a lot of my bulbs (thanks to inspiration from you in past years) from a variety of venders, but Southern Bulbs, located here in Texas, specializes in bulbs common in the Southeastern, USA and they sell a variety of heirloom bulbs that naturalize very well here, especially in the humid south. I got on their mailing list and they have a special sale every month, so I'm buying bulbs little by little to increase them on my property. They even sell a variety of "species" Tulip that is very successful at naturalizing in the South! I bought a variety called Tinka, because that was my late sister's name, and it's not a common name. I took your advice about tulips and planted them deep, so we'll see. They also sell a lot of their bulbs "in the green," or like your present from James, though they sell them after they've bloomed but still have leaves on, which must be left on and allowed to die back fully. I planted some of those last year, so I'll see soon if they come back. And, I don't mean to be selling things, but I did wonder if you've seen how Dollar Tree has started selling a garden cloche similar to the plastic ones you have? They won't be as sturdy as yours (which I saw in your previous videos) but at $1.25 each I bought a bunch of them. I really like the idea of "winter sowing" in place in the ground and have plans for a lot of seed sowing. Although, I think winter has already left Texas; it's spring this week but we're expecting summer to arrive next week with temps reaching into the 90s!! Crazy weather! ...I would so love to chat with you for hours and hours, but I feel so greedy going on, so I'll stop. I am so very, very grateful for all the inspiration you share with us. Thank you!!

Hello Jeri. Is wonderful to see all those tiny little green plants that survived the hot hot summer and winter and are getting ready now that spring is around the corner.☺️
But aside from tulips and narcissus is amazing how you can tell what all those tiny green specks peeking through the soil are.👍🏼

I love how you made those waddle baskets…they look wonderful in your herb beds…I just may have to try that…your flower beds are just so fantastic and I love every year how you change and move things around…your old metal railing are beautiful and love how you move those around…I also like those plastic cloches to they are nice…I’m going to look into those also…I’m looking forward to your next videos on your flower beds ❤❤❤

A great vide as always! The sign of springs are "popping" up every where. Our whole valley is blooming with almond and peach blossoms right now and it smells wonderful outside .Thanks for talking abut how some of the flowers and herbs look when dried. I had never thought of that before.
We are upper midwest zone 4. Our Foxglove have been green all winter in their 3rd year after seed sowing. Its wonderful to see seeds take off this way.

Great to see how your garden is starting to grow Jeri, I'm in the UK and mine is at about the same stage. Funnily I got some of the cloches you use for young plants, but will try some seed under them too now I've seen you do it. Thanks for the inspiration. Can't wait to see next weeks video 🙂
The cloches are very useful in so many ways.
You may want to try a variety of snow pea called Carouby that has very ornamental flowers and delicious pods and it climbs quite tall. It’s my favorite pea to grow.

My hostas are starting to peek out under the soil!! We will have 3 days of dry weather, I live in the rainy Pacific Northwest, but we will be back to cold, near freezing weather next week. I can't wait to get out and start cleaning the leaves and getting some flowers and vegetables planted!

I got the mermaid sweet peas as well. I have never grown them before and I am winter sowing them in milk jugs up here in NH. Zone 5 . I can’t wait to get out in the garden! April if I am lucky.

I'm in zone 7a. The tall metal cloches are from VEVOR, the roundish metal cloches are actually hanging baskets used upside down.

Jeri , I like your idea of creating your own cast iron fencing from rebar . What is the source you’ll use for the fenial tops ? I love the inspiration I receive with each of your videos ! You are such a gift !!!
Jeri , one more question ! You mentioned winter sowing nasturtium seeds under the cloches now . 1. Can they withstand frost ? Our temps are still in the high 20’s /30 ‘s at night , for quite awhile. 2. If I want them in a windowbox , do I sow directly in the windowbox , or somewhere more sheltered and then transplant them to the window box ?
Hi! I absolutely LOVE the woven pots. Do you have a previous video showing the process? I noticed it looked like you used rebar for the verticals? But would thicker sticks work for that as well? I think it would be fun to try to make a few.

I use rebar, but you could use any strong wood. I re-weave them yearly, so I like the rebar as it doesn't rot.
I love your garden and the passion you show for it. I love to garden around the Buffalo N Y area, the winter here is hard and cold ( in my mind forever lol) but it’s not all about the weather it’s about the creatures that wander about my 5 acres property, deer , mice, foxes ,raccoons and now voles. I will pass on some wisdom from Tasha Tudor concerning her vole problem, "I feed the voles Ex-lax, which does them in pretty well". LOL!

Funny how we in England call the plant yarrow as in wheel barrow and not yorrow as in borrow - tomato/tomato I guess
And Erbs VS Herbs or Gloss-ter v.s. Glous-ster. We even have different pronunciations from state to state, there are many Accents in America.

The pots contained only well rotted compost, but it wouldn't hurt to add a handful of perlite and a handful of vermiculite.
I wasn't sure about seed starter soil outside in pots. I see your excerpt on your basket now. How did I miss that beginning part? You are amazing and my favorite site.

How do you have success with Delphinium? I'am determined to grow lots and lots in Oregon .
I don't have great success with it, we're very hot and humid. I plant Larkspur ( the poor cousin) seed in winter and it does better than Delphiniium

Yes, I lay the fencing down when I scatter flower seed to prevent the chickens from scratching up the soil

I just weeded cloves out, tons of it that started taking over last summer. I absolutely love the feeling after weeding when you have a pure all but dirt slate!! It's very satisfying to see ❤❤
