    Absolutely GORGEOUS collards! They are growing in abundance and so healthily too. You've got enough to feed a community. Here in NYC, we are just entering planting season. Bought a Greenstalk planter and am looking forward to what I can do with it. Raccoons tore up everything except one little collard plant last year. I am determined though. 😊 I've just subbed to your channel ❤

    Gardening blessings from my channel to yours!! You had a wonderful harvest!! Those greens were absolutely beautiful and no bugs, that’s awesome, having them inside that cover must help a lot. I need to put something like that around mine especially for my squash!!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

      Hey @SteffaniesJourney, thank you. Blessings to you as well, will be visiting and subscribing to your channel. Definitely have something to keep those nasty vine borers off your squash, I plan on growing my squash inside the crop cage this year. Last year I didn't and I lost every last plant. If no crop cage, maybe use tulle from the fabric store and make sure the vine borer can't get to your plant. Happy growing, have a wonderful evening.

      wondering what a crop cage is??? is that a green house your referring to? Also what can I put around my orange trees so the bird dont eat my fruit? @@harveycontainergardener332

    • @harveycontainergardener332
      @harveycontainergardener332  6 месяцев назад +1

      @@CoconutbuttA A crop cage is made of metal poles covered by netting to keep flying moths out. Search Garden crop cage, I purchased mines from Amazon but Walmart also have them. Since it is netting, the sun, rain and wind gets through but not the bugs. Home Depot sells bird netting that you can cover your tree. If the tree is too big to cover, amazon sells fruit size mesh bags you can put your individual fruits in while still growing on the tree and pull the string to secure it. it's usually see through bags to still get sunlight.

    First time seeing your channel. Very encouraging. I want to do container and need tips. Seems like you have done a lot with your space. Harvey? Is that Louisiana? If so I lived in Gretna after storm . From New Orleans. Will follow you if so, because that's my zone now in Alexandria. 9A I believe

      Hey @sherrylwilliams, very nice to meet you. Yes, Harvey Louisiana is where I am. I'm 9B but our temps are practically the same. Whatever i can do to help, let me know. Not an expert but been growing for about 3 years now. Love growing in containers, so much easier in my opinion. Thanks and have a wonderful evening.

    Will you tell me where to purchase the tent that you have? I have a small patio that would like to try to container garden but I want to try to protect my plants and I love yours. Thank you

      Hi @brogersg1, thanks. The cage with the netting around it is call a Crop Cage for the garden and the green structure is my pop-up 6x4 greenhouse, both of them came from Amazon. Have a great evening.

    Your garden is so beautiful. Please advise us of the fertilizers you use for the specific vegetables. Thank you and stay blessed.

      Hi @user-ol7ut1sf9d, thanks. Alaskan Fish Emotions for the leafy greens and Alaskan Morebloom for root crops like turnips, carrots or onions, this is feed to plants once or twice a month. My initial pots are set up with 1/3 old soil, 1/3 new Kelloggs potting soil and 1/3 Black Kow. I add worm castings, perlite and blood meal. Also, I try to use only rainwater if possible.

      Hi @user-ol7ut1sf9d, thanks. When I'm getting a pot/grow bag ready, I start off with 1/3 old used soil, 1/3 Kellogg's potting mix, 1/3 organic compost, add perlite and worm castings, mix well. If i'm growing leafy greens/brassica, I add blood meal, If i'm growing root vegetables like carrots or fruits like tomatoes, I use bone meal. I fertilize with a water soluble fertilizer like Alaskan Fish Emotions once or twice a month. Hope this helps, it works for me.

    Hi Ursula! Those are some beautiful collards and mustard greens. I harvested some collards on Sunday and cooked them, delicious 😋. What a blessing. 😊
    Do you leave your crop cage open? I kept mine closed and still had bites on some of my brassicas. I think maybe I should put planks inside to keep my pots up from the ground. I think bugs are coming through the weed barrier.
    Anywho😂
    As always, thanks for sharing!😊

      Hey Elwanda, thanks. I know the collards was delicious, home grown, it couldn't get any better. Definitely a blessing to have them, mines are in the freezer for now. I don't leave the crop cage open, I try to make sure it's secure if i'm not in it. So far, only a few bugs have made their way in there but as the heat comes, so will the new bugs. Do you think they are getting through the netting, maybe the holes are larger than what is on mines. I love having my pots up off the ground, I think that do help deter bugs, it also helps me from having to do so much bending, LOL. Happy growing.

    Hi. Love the crop bag. Ive been worried about bugs to start a garden. Did you layer anything at the bottom or just on the ground before adding containers?

    hello I am new to your channel and I am so jealous of you...what do you use to keep the critters away from your greens? I get everything...recently different moths have been eating and laying black worms on my greens to a point I am ready to give up and your greens looks PERFECT!

      Hi @CoconutbuttA, thanks and sorry them bugs are so irritating. I keep my greens inside the crop cage or covered with tulle. Those moths can't get to my greens to lay their stinky eggs. LOL.

    Hello, You have a lovely garden. What kind of collard greens are those? Mine are more rounded like what is sold in the stores.

    • @harveycontainergardener332
      @harveycontainergardener332  6 месяцев назад

      Hi @risemahadeva, thank you. Those are Georgia Collards and tree Collards. The tree Collards have the rounder leaves but there are so many different types out there. The ones i'm familiar with are Vapes collards, greasy leaf Collards and Morris Heading collards. Have a great evening.
