Last year I used dollar store laundry baskets that were on sale for $.50! I lined them with paper saved from shipping boxes that was used as packaging. It worked wonderfully! i used the same method that you use. When it was time to harvest I spread a tarp next to the basket and tipped it over (to save the soil so I could reuse it). There they were, all the potatoes!!!! So easy to harvest! (I used potatoes from Aldi's that had sprouted). Thank You Lord!!!!!!!

I have been trying to have a sustainable garden for the last 6 years but to no avail. Last year I started throwing my fruit and vegetable scraps in plastic containers and boxes.. On Christmas morning I fell down and I wind up needing a Pacemaker on December 26 ...I went thru therapy and when I went home I mostly stayed in my bedroom. Two weeks ago my housekeeper opened the patio door to let some fresh air in and to our surprise every box and plastic tubs had plants growing out of them She pulled out avocado and mango beautiful 1 ft. plants. there were also small lemon, potatoes, watermelon mulberry , strawberry, chili . banana, bell pepper plants growing.
My whole back patio is full of plants...I am so excited..I still cannot go outside so I will sit all day and watch them grow. They are growing with no soil...amazing! I suppose they will wilt if they don't get planted in dirt somewhere .. Whatever will be will be. YAHWEH IS GREAT THERE IS POWER IN YAHWEH'S ALMIGHTY BENEVOLENT MERCIFUL NAME. The plants and I are regrowing together.

Hello Mrs. H, Did you know that potatoes are determinate and indeterminate like tomatoes. Keep reference to know the difference, keeping in the body part theme. If the eyes develop look skinny like fingers they determinate. If eyes develop look thick short like toes they indeterminate. Determinate grows down under & wide of the seed potato. Indeterminate grows above & close to the plant stem as soil is added. Fingers/determinate plant high on a mound or hill. Toes/indeterminate plant deep in shallow soil, add soil as the plant grows to increase harvest. I ain't telling you what to do, but I'm in the strong suggestion business! Happy growing, I already know you will research this information. Just wanted to share with you, because I was so frustrated with previous harvesting and now this information improved my yield. I love watching y'all.

You are such a joy to visit! I am 65 years old, been gardening all my life, and I learned something from you. I was _always_ taught to put the chitted potatoes roots down, but now Ima try your way because once you explained how and why it makes perfect sense.

I did this a few weeks ago and planted yellow potatoes. I just used dirt and materials that I had around. The plants are up and growing, so I am adding straw, leaves and more dirt. I can’t wait to see the results. Thanks for reminding me to add bone meal. I haven’t done that yet.

Mrs H, I'm so glad that you're explaining this because I have 4 different kinds of potatoes. I've only ever grown 1 kind at a time. Still planning the largest garden of my life. It's so exciting. I don't think that there is too much that I'm not going to grow.

My potatoes are looking like that. Hope I can hold out a few more weeks.

By His stripes WE ARE HEALED! Proclaim The Word of God! Find every Scripture about healing that you can and use your voice, your tongue to proclaim your health. Life and death is in the tongue! We have authority in The Name of Jesus! God days My people perish for lack of knowledge. Pray for knowledge and understanding. Seek The Lord. NEVER NEVER NEVER give up! That's exactly what satan wants you to do. Say "I will live and not die to proclaim the goodness of God, the exploits of God, The answers from God". Whatever your heart tells you. God is absolutely good and this sickness is a direct attack from the enemy. Jesus has given us ALL authority over the enemy/ the devil! Fight in the Spirit! If you pray in tongues then get busy. If you don't pray in tongues pray to God in Jesus' Name. We have not because we ask not! Don't give up on God's Grace Mercy and healing. I am praying for you 🙏 🙏🙏

I did this during the pandemic with big Amazon and Walmart boxes from grocery orders (anymore they break up the orders into smaller containers, bah). I folded the bottom flaps up and the top flaps down so it was sort of a ring, and set directly on the dirt. A few inches of reused potting soil, then layered leaves from our leaf pile with light layers of green weeds and a couple of handfuls of alfalfa pellets we had on hand with living dirt from good spots in the garden. At the top I put a few inches of potting soil and planted peas, added a little mulch. The peas have time to grow before the potatoes make their way up. The peas were not for production so much as just nitrogen fixing and keeping the soil alive. Anyway, it worked great. I use this to rehab spots in my garden plot where it's been hard to grow anything due to rocks and clay. It does require more water than in-ground, but putting boxes side-by-side really does help with that.

I got 3 of the boxes that our local store got pumpkins in last fall . I used 1 as a welping box for my dog and plan to use them to plant my potatoes in. They are a heavy cardboard so can withstand water exposure longer and allow me to plant a lot of potatoes vertically .
I have old hay and my own compost to use as they grow .
