If it helps others... I was having a hard time getting the lacing effect. What I finally figured out was that my heat gun's airflow was not fast enough. Thus, it would take me about 5 minutes to move that white resin across the rest of the surface, and with each passing second becoming deeper embedded in the other epoxy. After watching this video and seeing the difference in speed, I did pour, heated everything up with a blowtorch, and then hit it with a hairdryer on high... I was done in 10 seconds and had the results that had been previously eluding me.
Thank you for sharing this! I've done other projects but I haven't tried this technique yet. I've just been watching videos to get some tips before I start lol
This was done a year ago Sheri but so enormously educational for my wave making. I have two beach scenes I have done over and over not realizing that less is more. I kept going over the white wave again and again and not knowing why my waves didn’t look like everyone else’s…now I know…once is ENOUGH! Thank you so much for this video , you’re awesome❤️❤️❤️
I had an idea to take a sand colored wood slab, make an ocean out of resin and embed sea shells into it as a wall decor and this is PERFECT for what I wanted. Great tutorial, can't wait to make it
I've made some coasters, necklaces, earrings, and jars but I haven't tried this yet! This was actually the first project I wanted to do when I first started working with resin lol I just never got around to it. I'm trying to watch as many tutorial videos as I can to do it right 😊 thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for your diligent attention to details! I love how targeted and concise your teaching style is without wasting time on unnecessary babble, thank you!!!
I know I’m late to the party but I’m a RUclips only subscriber only. I find hitting lightly with the torch again after blowing the waves can make the cells larger and more distinct.
First time on this channel. Never done resin but a while ago I found a video of a young woman who was crafting a lot with resin and didn’t know that it was kind of killing her she developed health issues which she didn’t know what it was and finally realized it was the toxics in resin. So my tip will be if you are going to work with resin make sure you wear a breathing mask with proper gear and or do this outside or ventilated area.
I only found you this morning and it’s great to find a fellow Brisbanite artist and especially one that is so willing to share their knowledge! In answer to your question, I don’t have instagram or tick-tock, so I only follow you on RUclips. ☺️
This is an excellent video! Thank you so much. I've been wanting to learn how to mix the resin with paint (how much) and creating the waves. This is the BEST video I've seen and you explain it so well, especially your do's and dont's. Also I only watch on RUclips.
Hi, I'm writing you from Italy. Can I ask you if the white is pure pigment, or does it already contain some additive to produce the cells or if instead you add some additive to the wite resin that produces the cell effect with heat or time? Thanks for the reply
Hello, I was in doubt about the 15 minutes for the resin to thicken, is that time after mixing the resin or after having applied the resin to the wood?
Thank you for great explanation about how to make great waves, its awesome. If i understand correctly, after making water spot wait 15-20 minutes then put white next to woter to make waves,is that right? Thank you advance for ur answer.
Great tips! I tried pouring my first waves last night and the white was clumping, and i couldnt bloody figure out why. Thanks to you, im now off to pick up a bit of better resin and to try again :)
Just found you here on RUclips today…thanks for an excellent video! I’ve made a 3 d map of Italy with my laser machine with its coastline and islands and needed to add a wow factor to finish it off. These waves should do nicely!
Hi Shery. I wanted to say that your tutorial tips & tricks videos are so great, especially for someone that is interested in just starting out. Please keep making them as they are so helpfull for beginners. Take care ! Andreea
I see a lot of people doing these boards my question is how do you stop the build up on the bottom edge of it how do you clean that up because you're gonna end up with drippings correct
Hello and thank you for your tutorial. A couple of questions would really help me do my first wave, so if you answer i appreciate a lot. Are you using a thick resin? How much time passes between actually mixing the resin and blowing it? Thank you.
@@suewell6986 hi, i was trying this and that and came out to: yes, to do the waves you need a thick resin. And the waiting time is approximately half the life time marked (usually) on the packaging or instruction paper attached to resin. Like if the life time (working time) is 40 mins you would be blowing the waves in 20 mins. Actually what i did with my other resin (life time was about an hour) - i mixed a little portion of resin (may be 40 gramms total) and added my white and did my waves using smaller portions of it in 15 mins, 20 mins, 25,30,35 and 40 mins to see when i get the desired result/wave. So may be you should do the same because resins are different and the outside conditions in each and every time are different too and it affects the resin too. Surely i took pics of each tiny wave/lacing straight after i blowed it and a little later to see how it moves back. Ciao.
Hi Sheri. How do I make sure the white powder pigment is mixed. I seem to always get lumps when poured. Also silicone molds for coasters. How do you make them easy to peel off once cured? I’ve bought some but always tear so are one use 😢 thanks again. Great tips as always.
Just subscribed so only on RUclips for now. I'm starting my resin business and wanted to try a new project with a water look effect and your video was the first one, very informative and simple to follow.
Thank you Sheri, I loved your video..... I apologize, but I missed the name of the Resin that you liked for the cells and lacing, what was the brand name again? Thank you
on Dollar Store wood cutouts, I practiced with Just Resin in Titanium White & it just isn't working ! (1) Should I use the wedding cake nozzle? (2) I just heard your tip to use heat gun only once - that may be my issue because I don't see it spread enough so I hit it again with the heat gun & then I see the resin running upward (3) How much white resin do you add to the clear resin ?(4) Is BOND the type of white resin ? I didn't see it in your Amazon shop ... You are so generous with your teaching sorry for all the questions - Im having a terrible outcome trying this & I've tried about 10 times!
Amazing tutorial. I have two queries- 1. What should we do to prevent the sides of board to get dirty/colored? 2. You are using heat gun to avoid bubbles. Are you using any other product to create waves?
What she said plus you can put a little clear mod podge or acrylic paint over the side of the tape closest to your art to seal the painters tape so none of the paint from your art work seeps through the paint.
Thank you so much!! This is super helpful! are you still answering questions on this video? I’m a beginner and my kit came with mica powder for adding color. Does that work for the white or should I get something else to color it? Thanks so much!!!
Thank you, this is so helpful! I’ve watched a lot of videos, but none were as clear as yours. I think I have the confidence to try a wave scene now. Thank you, thank you! I will follow you on Tik Tok and Insta as well.
Hello Sherri what brand of heat gun do you use. Also at what temp do you use it ? Like a medium heat or full, and what is you preference with the heat gun ends
You have just got yourself a new sub! Fab vid, very informative and easy to understand. Some people just waffle on and expect that you know what they are talking about……. Well done with this project and I can’t wait to binge watch your channel 😊❤. Keep up the good work. 🎉
Hi 👋 love your waves cells . Say I have a question so can you use acrylic paint to make waves leasing cells? And does the epoxy resin make the cells or the paint? 😊
Hi Sheri. Just found you on RUclips. Soooo glad I did. I have a wooden tray I’m busting to do an ocean wave resin pour on. Thank you for the tip about putting a clear section before adding the white & also about letting it dry before adding a second wave. Nice to have a fellow Aussie to learn from 🐨. I have subscribed to your RUclips channel and look forward to watching more of your amazing artwork. I’m also an artist but only paint on canvas at the moment
Thanks Sheri for sharing with us you valuable experience and talent 🌸yet I am still struggling in getting what I am looking for …. I have one question… are we supposed to mix the white color with resin or I will use it as gel ??? Thanks dear 😊
Thanks for the tips. I might try it today. I have been doing rougher seas with angrier waves using a product called sno-tex. Gives me the ability to do rolling, crashing and splashing waves
Hey Kev, I just read that you are using sno-tex I would really appreciate if you can tell me where to buy and what brand is it so I can buy and try it too. Thank you very much.
Hi Sheri. Thank you for the wonderful tutorial. You make it look so easy. I'm now following you on all your platforms so I don't miss out on seeing your beautiful work.
i love this effect but......i think breaking waves, need something to break on,a few rocks here and there or a following of stones maybe some moss on them and how about driftwood?
Thank you Sherri for such tutorial it really helps. Can you make a tutorial in how to clean silicone molds from the previous resin drops It was hard to clean with tape it doesn’t work at all specially the big molds, and some resin was sharps !!?
Dear Sheri, unfortunately it doesn't work properly for me. cells just don't form. do you have a trick for me.. Maybe my heatgun is not hot enough? Greetings from Germany 😊
Do you mix both the colored and the white at the same time, and then pour the colored and waiting 15 minutes before adding the white? Or pouring the colored, waiting 15 minutes before mixing white then adding white immediately?
Cool! But it’s missing some details. How long did you wait between waves? How much white do you use? Is the white completely on the other side of the clear or does it overlap?
Thanks for this, I am new to the idea of resin and I want to do some tables and countertops. Thanks especially for the comparison of resins. I am in the Dominican Republic and I know I won’t have a big selection when I go to buy it, I will be stuck with whatever is available. One thing I see from the video, the cheaper resin seems to look more like a breaking wave in deeper water rather than a wave washing up over the sand. So it’s not bad, and it may be what I’ll be stuck with, lol.

I have had that same problem!!!
Thank you for sharing this! I've done other projects but I haven't tried this technique yet. I've just been watching videos to get some tips before I start lol
Does the resin used, could make a difference?
I did too! I was leaving colors off because I was so disappointed with the results
Wait so a good high blast hair dryer after heating it with a blow torch is better than a heat gun?! CAUSE I DONT WANT TO BUY ONE
This was done a year ago Sheri but so enormously educational for my wave making. I have two beach scenes I have done over and over not realizing that less is more. I kept going over the white wave again and again and not knowing why my waves didn’t look like everyone else’s…now I know…once is ENOUGH!

I had the same problem.
I had an idea to take a sand colored wood slab, make an ocean out of resin and embed sea shells into it as a wall decor and this is PERFECT for what I wanted. Great tutorial, can't wait to make it
Great idea! Can I simply place my shells on my finish board and epoxy over? I'm a newbie
I've made some coasters, necklaces, earrings, and jars but I haven't tried this yet! I know I’m late to the party but I’m a RUclips only subscriber only.
I find hitting lightly with the torch again after blowing the waves can make the cells larger and more distinct.
First time came across a realistic video on how it is done
First time on this channel. Never done resin but a while ago I found a video of a young woman who was crafting a lot with resin and didn’t know that it was kind of killing her she developed health issues which she didn’t know what it was and finally realized it was the toxics in resin. Best tutorial ever!!! Thank you very much! I just started the epoxy journey and this was so enlightening!
You answered my questions. I'm gonna try to finish my tray now!
When you waited to pour next layer of waves , was it next day or just a few hours?
I only found you this morning and it’s great to find a fellow Brisbanite artist and especially one that is so willing to share their knowledge! In answer to your question, I don’t have instagram or tick-tock, so I only follow you on RUclips. ☺️
Wow that looks so good, thanks for sharing, i liked the do's and dont's format
Thank you. When you let it set to make the second wave how long did you wait? Did you have to sand it for the second layer?
I wish I had seen this before I did my first wave. This really helps. Thanks.
This is an excellent video! Thank you so much. I've been wanting to learn how to mix the resin with paint (how much) and creating the waves. This is the BEST video I've seen and you explain it so well, especially your do's and dont's. Also I only watch on RUclips.

Thank you so much.! This was really helpful. Other youtubers never tell these details and make things look so easy.
You are absolutely amazing at teaching and so much talent. Thank you
Hi, I'm writing you from Italy. Can I ask you if the white is pure pigment, or does it already contain some additive to produce the cells or if instead you add some additive to the wite resin that produces the cell effect with heat or time? Thanks for the reply
Just resin does titanium white for waves. Not s7re if you mix it with resin . I think prob so
Hello, I was in doubt about the 15 minutes for the resin to thicken, is that time after mixing the resin or after having applied the resin to the wood?
Thank you for great explanation about how to make great waves, its awesome.

Trying this tomorrow! I pray it helps because I am struggling!!!
Beautiful! What white did you use on the tray on the right. I have white dye, alcohol ink and pigment paste. Which one works the best?
Great tips! I tried pouring my first waves last night and the white was clumping, and i couldnt bloody figure out why. Thanks to you, im now off to pick up a bit of better resin and to try again :)

Do you let the blue cure before adding your clear and white?
Tres joli ! Merci pour les explications
I use J Diction or Texxpert or something like that and love them and wonder if those are good quality for this
Hi Shery. I wanted to say that your tutorial tips & tricks videos are so great, especially for someone that is interested in just starting out. Please keep making them as they are so helpfull for beginners.

Amazing tutorial. I have two queries- 1. What should we do to prevent the sides of board to get dirty/colored?
2. You are using heat gun to avoid bubbles. Are you using any other product to create waves?
You can tap the sides up with painters tap if you don’t want resin to go there.
2. It’s a bit of both
What she said plus you can put a little clear mod podge or acrylic paint over the side of the tape closest to your art to seal the painters tape so none of the paint from your art work seeps through the paint.
Thankyou for your valuable Resin tips
Thanks Sheri about to start with resin

Thank you for the tips. I’m making a small resin table that is 1 inch thick. How would I make that same effect doing a 1inch poor?
Thank you Sherri for such tutorial it really helps.
Can you make a tutorial in how to clean silicone molds from the previous resin drops

Thank you. Great timing!
This would be like a wall painting or table decoration ? Where do y’all place them in the house ? Any pictures?
Probably one of the best videos I've seen on resin waves.
Do you mix both the colored and the white at the same time, and then pour the colored and waiting 15 minutes before adding the white? Or pouring the colored, waiting 15 minutes before mixing white then adding white immediately?
A question, I am in the start of winter and I can only get my shop up to 60 degrees F, can I do a table top pour at this temp. and be okay?
Do you use mica powders or alcohol inks?
