    It would be useful to put eGolf36 results to the comparison - to see how the new model compares to predecessor. Sadly, ID3 is way more thirsty, +25-35% according to TB shiiiet (worth to mention, eGolf test was much warmer, however it doesn't justify the difference IMO).

    • @Gresteh
      @Gresteh 3 года назад +1

      The ID.3 has a lot of room for improvement energy wise, it seems that it's hvac uses a lot of energy, both for heating the cabin and heating the battery, i've used ecalc to simulate a route for those temperatures and it seems that the ID.3 is using about 30Wh/km to warm up the car and the battery, for both 90 and 120kmh, that's a little high and i suspect that VW can tweak the BMS to reduce consumption, in top of that i also suspect that the heat pump efficiency can be improved a little.
      In any case, the main culprit for ID.3's winter consumption or with the eGolf compared with summer's is aerodynamics, the ID.3 is taller than the eGolf so it has a larger surface area and that increases aerodynamic drag, in top of that air at cold temperatures is more dense so aerodynamic drag increases by a lot.

  • @benoit6026
    @benoit6026 3 года назад

    The fact that the battery is warmer when you drive at 120 km/h than 90 km/h, explains perhaps why you had less auxiliary consumption at high speed, on your test without inside heating. HVAC power may be less necessary in that case for battery warming.

The 58kWh should get around 30km longer range then, where they expain the range increase to be because of thermal management adjustments.

On highways, B mode and D mode will have the exact same efficiency because you use very little regen. This guy's video only explained the basics of loss with regen in which I agree with. But on highway, using B or D mode is irrelevant for consumption.

    • @Gresteh
      @Gresteh 3 года назад +1

      Actually it's mostly physics, there is not much that can be done to reduce winter consumption, for the ID.3 you could reduce it by 30wh/km at most, but not much more... in order to get further reductions you would have to redesign the body as most of the consumption comes from aerodynamic drag that is increased due to lower temperatures (the lower the temperature the denser the air). Increasing insulation may give yo a few wh/km decrease in winter but at the same time it would increase it consumption during summer as it has to use more HVAC to lower the car's temperature as the car would heat up more due to the sun.

      @@schunkelndedschunke6914 so basically, while OEMs need to improve self driving, efficiency, software, Tesla has to improve the dealership network and the service network and build quality. Then the range and the self driving on tesla are better but self driving features will be bought or hired by the OEMs from third party companies and the range should also improve with time. So the game is on and the OEMs will give a good fight to the US tech giants who have unlimited cash.
