Track 9 of the album Push the Sky Away. This is my favorite song off of the album alongside Higgs Boson Blues. "Just keep on pushin', Push the sky away."
This man in his various guises has spoken to my soul for nearly thirty years now. For every major joy, for every major tragedy, for every day I have been unable to put things into words or perspective Mr Cave has been there. I went down the aisle to Nick cave song. I’ll leave the world with a Nick song. Possibly this very one.
Have you got everything you come for and you don't want no more? Man, I'll let you know that once you cross that line, there's nothing else to keep you here. Recently crossed it myself. Just waiting on my exit out of here. I'm not even sad either.
What can I say. But pure genius. Pain, hurt, he has felt more than any of us after loosing 2 children. It’s hell and respect big time to this guy. Love him to bits. Pure poet and master of words. 🖤🖤🖤
Try Laura Nyro. If you want dark soul: 'Captain for Dark Mornings' (1969, desperation) 'Decembers Boudoir' (1968, erotica), 'Gibsom Street' (1969, abortion), 'Been on a Train' (1970, heroin), Tom Cat Goodby' (1969, infidelity), 'Buy and Sell' (1967, prostitution), 'You Don't Love Me When I Cry' (1969, heartache), 'And When I Die' (1967). Also check out her cover of 'Gonna Take a Miracle' (1971):it will blow your mind. Nyro was a child prodigy and genius out of the Bronx. Many consider Nyro America's greatest songwriter. See her inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame in 2012 by a weeping Bette Midler. Also see Nyro raves by Todd Rundgren, Elton John/Elvis Costello, Alice Cooper. Joni Mitchell described Nyro as 'holy wine in the bloodstream'. Dylan loved her. She supported Dylan on his 1991 USA east cost tour. She died in 1997 from cancer aged 49.
This album helped me get through my withdrawal form heroin been on it over 30 years and been of it just over a year now the push the sky away was like pushing the pain out of my body
This song is right for my funeral. Lovely, can see the wind blowing the leafs outside, taste the silence in the air. Every day when my girl wakes up and sees the sun come up from the field she wil have a memory about me. She will apreciate it.
I was right I was right Oh, the sun, the sun The sun is rising from the field I’ve got a feeling I just can’t shake I’ve got a feeling That just won’t go away You’ve got to just Keep on pushing Keep on pushing Push the sky away And if your friends think That you should do it different And if they think That you should do it the same You’ve got to just Keep on pushing Keep on pushing Push the sky away And if you’re feeling You’ve got everything you came for If you got everything And you don’t want no more You’ve got to just Keep on pushing Keep on pushing Push the sky away And some people Say it’s just rock’n roll Oh, but it gets you Right down to your soul
Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, 30th September at the O2 Arena, closed the show with this and it gave me chills. He even plucked Bobby Gillespie out of the crowd who sung the last line. One of the best shows I have EVER seen. Man is GOD.
Nowadays is hard for me to find this piece of music which will stay forever. I am pink Floyd generation. But this is the one . Forever. Life changer. Masterpiece.
i used to live in montmartre, in paris and had a beautiful view of the city out the window from my bed. i would wake up really early and watch the dawn get cut apart by the rising sun listening to this on a loop.
I really needed a song to help cope with how I'm feeling, and I couldn't decide on anything until I just thought I'm going to listen to Nick Cave. This song perfectly fits what's going on with me right now...Thank you Nick Cave.
And some people Say it's just rock'n roll Oh, but it gets you Right down to your soul Why does it matter how people got here as long as they're here now?
This song supplies a potent memory for me. I was sitting in my grandparent’s trailer- up at the lake which they finally decided to buy. My grandmother had cancer, so it was a nice little occasional treat before it got too bad. Well, I wasn’t a party person so one night I stayed behind when they went up to hang with a bunch of people. I sat in a rocking chair, listening to this song. It was a beautiful quiet night. It moved slowly, and so did the rocking chair. It was a pocket universe of a timeline looking back. And everything felt still. Unbeknownst to me, the day after, my grandmother’s mother, my nana passed away. My uncle walked in a broke the news and my grandmother started sobbing. I got scared and ran off out the door. This was the first death of many I experienced after. And I have that imagery of my grandmother sitting on that rocking chair I was in the night before after just finding out her mother died. I nearly knocked my grandfather over bolting out of the door shaken, bare foot in the long grass and trees. Now, both my grandparents are dead. And this memory lingers in my mind. Sometimes, I wish instead of hanging back and listening to this I had went to that party and sat with my grandparents. Knowing what I know would happen the next day and from that event on to the events after. It all feels like a different timeline now. Lightyears away from me. Frozen and spinning in my mind.
Just cant enough of this song, one of the best of last year "And some people say that it is just rock and roll, oh but it gets right down to your soul, just push the sky away"
Regarding the meaning of this life-affirming song, Cave told The Sun: "We all have this feeling of the world folding in on us. Whether it's environmental, the economy, nuclear or whatever, I don't think there's anyone on the planet who's walking around thinking things are okay. "So to me, there's this idea that we need to carry on and do what we do. The song is optimistic in that respect. Of course it's impossible to push the sky away but we need to try."
"Nick Cave is a Christian" Used to be. According to himself he was more of a believer when he used more drugs. “I'm not religious, and I'm not a Christian, but I do reserve the right to believe in the possibility of a God. It's kind of defending the indefensible, though; I'm critical of what religions are becoming, the more destructive they're becoming. But I think as an artist, particularly, it's a necessary part of what I do, that there is some divine element going on within my songs.” Leonard Cohen never was particularly religious (you can see this in the later interviews) but he liked to use that kind of language as he was so familiar with it.
Giorgi Merabishvili yeah the dude is for real, after the life he's lived to still be such a bold ballsy artist says a lot in my opinion. Most artists even great ones have usually folded and begun their long slow and sad decline by the point in their career that he's reached. Bully for Mr Cave 👍🏽

This is amazing, I've always loved Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, I had no idea he'd released some new music like this...and with a song name like Higgs Boson Blues...

Nick Cave's voice floats in notes written on the collective souls of mankind. What an absolute treasure he has been in my life.
Same here
I agree!
Awww!, No words, no thoughts... just feeling like sitting on my sofa with a cup of coffee, watching the world through the window as it goes by...

One thought at a time, one breath, one day at a time brother. From one survivor to another, I wish you peace.
It cannot get any better. I will love this song for live. Crying right now, first time in years.
Random girl + Random guy = mixed inevitabilities
This song is right for my funeral. Lovely, can see the wind blowing the leafs outside, taste the silence in the air.
Every day when my girl wakes up and sees the sun come up from the field she wil have a memory about me.

Heard this at the end of a movie. Never forgot it

I’ve got a feeling
I just can’t shake

That just won’t go away
You’ve got to just
Keep on pushing

That you should do it different

That you should do it the same
You’ve got to just
Keep on pushing

Push the sky away
And if you’re feeling
You’ve got everything you came for
If you got everything
And you don’t want no more
You’ve got to just
Keep on pushing

Push the sky away

I found this song to be very inspirational.

Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, 30th September at the O2 Arena, closed the show with this and it gave me chills. He even plucked Bobby Gillespie out of the crowd who sung the last line.
One of the best shows I have EVER seen. Man is GOD.
Bo Dez I was there. Still recovering. What a concert. Like being hit by a train.
I saw him last year in LA and I left feeling the same. Awestruck
I don't know why but...when it hurts so much inside...this makes it hurt even more. But it also helps.
Der Junker The National make me feel the same

this song recalls in my soul the beautiful darkness and light at the same time of the person i am in love with.
This is the prettiest song i have ever heard. xoxo's to Nick and Co.
I love this song, deeply touched my soul, without further comments .........
It is celestial to push the sky away, as I do daily.
After Nick Caves previous great albums this was still surprise to me. Whole album is awesome.

thanks, pal! :)
the song is about Jesus Christ, how we push God away. Nick Cave is a Christian.
No.
Christina Charitos Interesting. Why gotta keep on pushing the sky away though?
"Nick Cave is a Christian"
Used to be. According to himself he was more of a believer when he used more drugs.

Wow, Nick cave still keeps himself relevant to this day!
They have lost two sons; peace upon them x
nothing so deep as these word, his voice, his pain
I can't stop listening this song. It's so magical and amazing. I'm here because of movie Sky with Diane Kruger and Norman Reedus.
I seem to recall it was also used in the tv show The Bridge, which starred Diane Kruger, as well.
Dont know what to say....stopped breathing during this...love this.
And some people
Say it's just rock'n roll
Oh, but it gets you
Right down to your soul
(Music is sacred, music is magic, music is a gift from God)
Why does it matter how people got here as long as they're here now?

Tolles Lied bei einem eher durchschnittlichen Tatort. Aber danke, ohne ihn hätte ich das tolle Lied nicht entdeckt.
Fucking Nick Cave man... I think this is his best since Let Love In, but whatever... anything the dude creates is amazing
Swallow the Sun used this as their intro song when they were in Dallas earlier this month. It's such a peculiar song, especially to have it played in the way they did, with how dreary and melancholy it sounds but lyrically speaks on the positive side. I'm really loving this song.
The Bridge brought me here. Depressingly beautifully
Wer hier nach der Jan Ullrich-Doku im Ersten?! 🙋♂️☺

This is amazing, I've always loved Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, I had no idea he'd released some new music like this...and with a song name like Higgs Boson Blues...
