Fun fact: Nick Cave was happy that one of his unpopular songs was featured in Harry Potter, and now everyone knows this song from it.
unpopular?
damn, i haven't got that memo, it's one of my fav nick songs...
hell, who am i kidding. all nicks songs are my fav :)
@Björn Pisano you're not the only one. try watching it with a girl that is a huge fan of the books and her moaning about every single scene.
on the point of alternative nick songs most i find appropriate to the sequence (in terms of complementing cinematography) are on latest albums except for the weeping song.

And yes, out of all the films, the fourth one was probably the worst as far as the movie went. The book was MUCH better imo. They left so much out of the movie. The backstory of Barty Crouch’s son was so tragic and you spend the entire book wondering if an innocent man was convicted. Meanwhile, the movies practically made him into The Joker. 🙄

@@Kj_Gamer2614 For me, my relationship with my parents has become much better since I moved out. At least for us, it works better if we don't interact every single day and get on each other's nerves all the time. Also, if something stresses out one of us too much, we have a chance of cooling down on our own, without getting in each others' way. Though I still live in the same town as them, we see each other 2-3 times a week. Sometimes living in the same house just doesn't really work well for people.

we’re all here for mostly the same reason. harry potter is more than just a book series and some movies. harry potter is what some of us grew up with or what made us miss being young or what keeps us young forever. harry potter taught life lessons and introduced us to love, friendship, and characters we will never forget.
it was my childhood
I don't usually like or reply to comments on RUclips, but this was just so accurate and beautifully said.
yess, i grew up with it, read it and watched it since 4th grade, now here i am 18 years old, first year of college. i feel at peace now that i'm back being obsessed with a universe that i call home. i remembered being made fun of for loving it, even gave away my books, but i'm back here. like Dumbledore said, "happiness can be found in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light" that's what i'm doing now, turning to the place that always made me so happy
Pyper Stevens that’s so true. And it made me do right things, and made me feel safe. Because their stories are so true and powerful it makes me brave because I feel like they’re always by my side
I've been a big Harry Potter fan for years. I had never actually read the books until this year. (I wasn't a fan of reading until I read Harry Potter) Best experience of my life.

I'm back after watching Harry Potter 20th anniversary. Almost 9 years since i first read and watched this amazing series. I still love it with my whole soul
The anniversary was so emotional it made me want to cry, it was so good and I love Emma, Rupert’s and daniel’s friendship and how they said that they all love eachother and grew up together
that brought me here as well
I cant watch it. Because after I do it closes the door on all things harry potter film wise and the actors. I watch maybe 1 minute and rewatch the series. Im happy that I dont think ill ever finish it. I can rewatch my favorite trio over and over again and it never closes the door on them.
Harry potter Is my life it's my escape basically
Shoot i often rewatch these movies a couple times a year.
I remember having a friend who was a potterhead. I thought it was dumb, though I had never seen the movies nor read the books. Later on, we grew apart and lost our friendship. I read the Harry Potter books, out of curiosity, and I never-NEVER-thought it would have this big of an impact on me than it did. I finally understand the hype. Thank you to that friend for showing me a world I didn’t know I needed.
Same here
I watch the film series every year and this time I was like ok, it doesn't seem to be that touching as always, but more it gets to the end of the series, especially to this music scene, it gets more sad and hearthwarming at the same time that it's hard to even finish watching it, cause it feel's like you were in that world too and the live's reaching the end
@@darbix2006 Time has that effect. It passes and we grow and find more meaning in the world around us. This music hit me more than it first did, so much so that I downloaded and give a listen once in awhile
Pretty much everyone in my Yr6 class liked Harry Potter, or at least was familiar with it. This song is just incredible. You almost didn't expect modern music to be in Harry Potter, but it fit the scene perfectly. And thanks to that I discovered Nick Cave which is just delightful.

I read the books as they came out. Was just a kid. Watched the movies as they came out. I hadn't gone back to it for years, just rewatched it all the other day and got curious about this song. Sitting here on my own listening and reading the lyrics and I just burst out crying... Jesus music is amazing.
This song obviously makes you think of deathly hallows but it makes me think of all my friends who have died young in every possible way imaginable from suicide , homicide, domestic violence, overdose. That they'll eternally be young and to an extent forgotten only remembered by the few close to them. I still hear their voices and see their faces and they're gone. It's strange getting older while they're still young and full of life on the other side.. Its heavy to me.
Did we live the same life ? I buried 5 friends due to suicide 1 from overdose 1 from being murdered
The dark times of life
That is what makes it such a great song. It can mean different things to different people, but all of those feelings are Impactful. It is beautiful for making us feel. deeply.
I'm in the heart of the opoid epidemic. I'm about to turn 40 in a couple of years. There's so many people I went to school with who didn't reach 35, and a dozen more that won't make 40. As a music producer, I want to say how I love that this track is so messy, so dense and loud yet so beautiful as well. From the strings, guitar and ambience in the beginning then to the loud drums, bass and piano all up to the vocal choirs from The Bad Seeds all blends together perfectly. @@antoniuerdei724 It could mean different things, depending on the listener. What the artist meant could very well be different from what many take away from it.
"Hey little train, we're jumpin on... the train that goes to the kingdom."
To some, that can be interpreted as greeting death with a bit of rejoice, possibly because of the idea of reconnecting with a lost loved one or being released from suffering. "I once was blind, but now I see"
The verses that came before it were very melancholy and dark. Yet, in between each was that brief reprieve where children sang "o children, lift up your voice", which could very well be a warning as well as a call for kids to stand up. At the end of such somber verses to transition into that powerful chorus, which everyone returns to this video for, I hear two things:
First is the possibility that everyone died in the story leading up to it and, as said, are reconnecting in the afterlife. "Have you left a seat for me"
Second is the possibility of overcoming all that strife and hardship, even if barely, and being able to leave it all behind. They're rejoicing, they're alive. "Was held in chains, but now i'm free"
This song used to make me want to dance, but now I cry because I never got to dance with him. The first love of my life, the boy who showed me what love felt like, and how it should be. I had the chance, if only I got up and changed the movie faster, that day everything changed. I promise to wait, wait for you to return so we can finally finish the series that we watched while our relationship grew and deepened. i will wait for our dance, no matter how Long it takes.

Pass me that lovely little gun
My dear, my darling one
The cleaners are coming, one by one
You don’t even want to let them start
They are knocking now upon your door
They measure the room, they know the score
They’re mopping up the butcher’s floor
Of your broken little hearts
O children
Forgive us now for what we’ve done
It started out as a bit of fun
Here, take these before we run away
The keys to the gulag
O children
Lift up your voice, lift up your voice
Children
Rejoice, rejoice
Here comes Frank and poor old Jim
They’re gathering round with all my friends
We’re older now, the light is dim
And you are only just beginning
O children
We have the answer to all your fears
It’s short, it’s simple, it’s crystal clear
It’s round about, it’s somewhere here
Lost amongst our winnings
O children
Lift up your voice, lift up your voice
Children
Rejoice, rejoice
The cleaners have done their job on you
They’re hip to it, man, they’re in the groove
They’ve hosed you down, you’re good as new
They’re lining up to inspect you
O children
Poor old Jim’s white as a ghost
He’s found the answer that was lost
We’re all weeping now, weeping because
There ain’t nothing we can do to protect you
O children
Lift up your voice, lift up your voice
Children
Rejoice, rejoice

The train that goes to the Kingdom
We’re happy, Ma, we’re having fun
And the train ain’t even left the station
Hey, little train!Wait for me!

Have you left a seat for me?
Is that such a stretch of the imagination?
Hey little train!Wait for me!

I now know that I love this song as much as I did the first time I heard it in Harry Potter movie.
Just watched the 20 year reunion...wow I'm 54 and I will still stop and watch a H.P. movie no matter what I'm in the midst of.
It's so sad to see most the people are coming to this song don't even understand the significance and meaning behind the song. It is so beautifully written.
It is truly a piece of literature.
true that
Please spare us
I mean I get that people are here because of Harry Potter but damn this song is about kids dying in the damn Holocaust
@@markanthony1004 Of course it is, it's evident from the lyrics. But, the situation in Harry Potter is also not that different. Harry and Hermione dance to this in a momentary forgetfulness about Death Eaters and Voldemort hunting them down and killing them.
This song has a special place in my heart. I always think of this song as a allusion to life itself, to the passing of time; of how the old gets replaced by the new. Poor old Jim is white as a ghost; he has finally 'seen the light': the end. He is going to die very soon, without anyone being able to shield him from his fate. He has to watch his children, the cleaners, take over from him. They can, and they will learn from where he went wrong and do things better. They will grow up, and they will gradually lift up their voices. The train we are all jumping on is death, and yes, it has a seat for everyone. We are all 'having fun' (or, better put, having ups and downs) until that train arrives. The singer realizes this and is no longer in chains but is finally free. That's just my interpretation though.
Thank you Harry Potter and David Yates for letting me find this song! I lost count of how much times I have listened to it. It allows me to put any bad day into perspective.
O
exactly!!! they couldn’t have chosen a better song- they’re no longer at hogwarts so they almost feel disconnected from their childhood selves, but in the scene where they are dancing you almost see the youthful happiness they once possessed.
Sam Vervaeck alright calm down
Death is Gain !!enjoy your time here til that train arrives.
It's a wonderful interpretation. Very perceptive.
"Have you left a seat for me? Is that such a stretch of the imagination?" I played this over and over and over again after my baby boy died. I lost my Brian three years after my father died and nine months later my first love and one of my best friends also died. I never drank before or after, but I almost drank myself to death in grief. But in that lowest moment, the people who loved me rallied around me with light. Not 'tough love' or anger, but light. I wouldn't be here if not for them. Now, I hear this and I look forward to the moment I will rejoin my boy once I'm done here.
I'm so sorry for those you lost. I hope you're doing better now. ❤
I'm sorry for your loss - the pain of loosing a child I have witnessed from my grandmother loosing my mother at a young age and her sister at a even younger age and then my father and his brother from my other grandparents. Seeing the tolls that made...really made an affect on me. I haven't lost a child but i have lost my parents and some best friends and now grandparents. 😢 I understand loss and pain quite well and the love between a child and parent is irreplaceable. I hope you have found some peace. I would like to think those of us left behind are here for a reason still. There must be some good we can still bring to this earth before our time is up ❤ i hope you know you are not alone in your grief and if you ever want someone to talk to who understands loss feel free to reach out. I am glad you have such a supportive network around you.
❤
I always find my way back here. This is home. This is peace. This is a memory I never want to let go of. One that I want to remember til the day I die, and I’ll refuse to let go until that day comes. 🧙♂️
honestly, just imagine actually dancing to this with harry
Pls, this will be my dream
I would've kissed him right there, but then again, I'm not Hermione and she did not feel this way toward him
We all know why we r here...
As a huge potterhead, this song fills me with soo many emotions, it basically kinda describes Harry Potter if u kinda think about it. That even tho it looks like everything is bad, there is hope and everything is ok in the end, and amidst all the drama and bad things, the golden trio have each other, always...
Yes madam witch
this song is so homely and safe. Harry Potter was always more than the books and films for me, it was something I found comfort in. This song just reminds me of all of that ❤️
Who will be listening to this in 2024?
This music is timeless
😢😢😢
Here I am
Whoever decided to add the dancing scene with this song playing is an absolute genius that knew just how to tug at our heart strings. I'm so glad Deathly Hallows introduced me to this song
being a grown ass man, a song should not make me cry. yet here we are....
Nah bro. Songs can do that. No shame in it.
Disregard age. Some songs are beautiful.
nvm i just cried
what crying has to do with age , Cry out loud and Laugh out loud , be human
Then you're a real man.
NEVER be afraid to express your vulnerability x
This song makes me so emotional idk why.
Watching Harry Potter i felt every emotion that a human can feel
Same bro HP 4 life
I want this song played at my wedding to remind me that “happiness can be found even in the darkest of time, if one only remembers to turn on the light”
If your wedding is a dark time, please spare that other person and don't get married.
@@manuginobilisbaldspot424 LMAO i don't think that quote was directed to their marriage
@@manuginobilisbaldspot424 savage xdd
the song is about the holocaust, what happiness can be found in the holocaust
@@definitely_human1366 you can interpret the song however you like. You choose to interpret it that way, others may not.
This is one of those songs that make you think about life. About regrets.
It's sad in a sense. Hard to explain...
The one who chose this song for the scene is just genius!!!
This song just makes me cry. I dont care that Harry Potter led me too it, it hits a place deep inside me and the tears just roll out of my eyes. Im 33 year old man and music has this affect on me. Human beings have created some absolutely amazingly unbelievably advanced tech and crazy stuff. But my life without music that touches my soul like just wouldn't be worth it. This type of music is why i know im human. If you feel nothing listening to this go get yourself checked for cybernetic implantations. Its the most beautiful experience when you discover music that has these effects on you. The words ive used haven't even come close to the actual feelings i get. Genuine heartfelt music cant be explained by simple words. Life is a mystery, maybe if we atop being so serious just sit back and enjoy our limited time we'd all live in a far better society
Why does this song make me feel this type of way... I’m happy, depressed, and glad at the same time????
i think..the song sort of takes you on a journey. like, the weary and tired mood when you fly back on a plane with someone you love sleeping with his/her head on your shoulder.
:)
Wow this comment is ten years old but you really took me to the situation you were talking about beautiful comment
The dislikes are just Ron's alternative accounts
frr
*Obliviate* now I can watch the whole HP and read the books so I can fall in love again all over!
5:10 my heart- i love this song so much. the lyrics seem like something harry would say. the train would be the hogwarts express and the fact that he's "free" from the dursleys. and the "we're happy ma, we're havin' fun" is him talking to his mom. "in this process of elimination" its like him saying even though its a process where he might die he's still having fun. am i the only one that always imagined it this way? also sorry if what i'm saying doesn't make sence lol
Aww this is so sad
oh my gosh
It’s actually about the kids that died in the holocaust but sure you can view it that way too I guess
the song is about the holocaust, the train is what they used to bring the Jews to the camps
I love it when songs incorporate trains or some sort of metaphor into their lyrics. I dunno why, I don't really have an affinity for trains outside of this
+Edriss Scofield Welcome to the club, trainspotter checking in

Well met
+Edriss Scofield :D
Edriss Scofield train music is my favorite
Edriss Scofield so do I
I miss how young we all were once first rime watching HP. Now I'm 29 and can't believe it's been over 20 years that this story started. It's amazing.
i just finished the harry potter series. I wish i can watch it like the first time again. it feels so empty after finished the series, such a great movie.
Not me dancing alone in my room pretending to be in a tent in the middle of nowhere looking for horcruxes
STOPPP ME TOO
this makes me happy. this scene was my favorite thing to watch in the the whole movie :)
This song reminds me that with Michael Gambon's death my childhood officially ended. This song is hauntingly beautiful.
After ten years, I watched Harry Potter again and my memories came alive
And I came across this beautiful sequence and God's song, it was really beautiful.
And it made me find this song tonight :))
The Harry Potter series is a masterpiece 💯
This song is so harrowing. I cried when this song came on in the film and it makes me so sad whenever I watch DH. What a great choice for the scene.
i always cry when i hear this song
