One thing is to absolutely let people know you are a new player if you are, I offhandedly said that to one of my SLs and he walked me through the whole match and was super helpful. It also helps you gauge the community, if you get a negative response from most you know that it probably won’t be very welcoming when you make a mistake
I picked up squad very recently, and this helped a ton. Also, I was a little bit afraid of using my mic at first, having come from games like Rainbow Six Siege where any request for help is immediately answered with slurs, but I was pleasantly surprised to learn that the majority of Squad's playerbase is remarkably friendly.
I love helping new players! I wish everyone would just say hi and ask questions. Though just understand as commander or leader things get incredibly busy and fast (if you know what you are doing) and we may miss what you say, saying things again until an answer is given is NEVER annoying and is often very important as the game is constantly fast paced for leaders.

@@mencot89 I hope so too man! It's truly where the game shines. Just a little courage to start speaking really enhances the game for everyone. As a beginner, just tell us where the enemy is, what you're doing, say when you're down, and especially state whether you heard and/or are performing your leaders commands or not - that's a big one for us. And ask any and all questions! That's it! I'd love to do an advanced communications guide because I have real world experience in this exact topic. Once you're in those habits a few months later and want to be an even greater asset to the team, in summary, try to master being Clear - Concise - Coherent. The more specific you can be the better, the smaller you can make a statement the better, and the more consonant you can make the statement the better. That's for when you're really serious and want to play a milsim style game at your best, otherwise just have fun and joke around! You might be able to find some good advice in Captain's Squad Leader videos, he is also a veteran in Squad.

As a veteran Squad player who is leader or commander 95% of the time, I love when new players let me know they are new. I won't forget and I really enjoy keeping an eye out for when you need guidance. Also top tip, you'll know you're getting good when you are opening your map every 10 seconds, it's the ONLY path to truly understanding and mastering the game.
Should make a basic comms video for newbies. Knowing how to call out locations of enemy contact accurately is one of the most important things to know in Squad Could also do a SL guide and Commander guide as well. A lot of newer players have been getting thrown into those roles since the PLA update.....mainly on the PLA teams lol. Great work as always!!!
I've played HLL some 400 hours mostly as a SL, just bought this game and jeez it's a totally different system. (Obviously) Played couple of matches and im still confused most of The Time whats going on and what to do and how. Gotta study more. But at least on this game people actually use mics and talk.

I just got the game for the free weekend, planning on buying it, but the first match I played I had to make a new squad because all of the other squads were full or private. I had a full team and everyone kept asking me what I wanted them to do, and I had no idea lol. I didn’t really talk in the SL chat either, because they sounded like they knew what they were doing and I felt like I’d just clog up their comms with useless stuff. I essentially just ran around following others, talking essentially only in proximity chat and not on the radio because I didn’t really know what I was supposed to say. But yeah my first game ever on Squad was extremely stressful and overwhelming, but it was still a blast.

Maybe put this into a series, talk about basics of how it is important to stay with your squad, what a logi is and does, common words/slang used in game that new players wont understand, what a radio is and does and its boundary rules and other basics that might even be in the tutorial. Just because your surmised delivery method may be easier to understand for some people than the tutorial. Also when I first started playing one of the first things I figured out how to differentiate where enemies where was from the sounds of their guns. Different factions have different sounding guns.

Trying to put more hours in and get experienced but sometimes it doesn't help when some squad leaders don't do their role but also gives me good ways of trying to figure out what the plan is from other squads to help contribute to the objectives. I've been wanting to really dive into these mil sim games but damn this game has a learning curve

I always try to get newer players introduced to the game via the medic role, as that doesn't require as much skill with shooting, but rather gets people to think tactically and as a cohesive part of their team. I would add, that the game is best enjoyed when having fun (for most players). If someone isn't in it for mil-sim, then finding people to slightly mess around with or have a general fun time can greatly enhance the game experience and keep every match enjoyable despite wins or losses.
only got like 100hrs at this point, but the map is really important like you said. If you have trouble with friendly fire in the beginning, checking the map for friendlies helped me alot. Trying to figure out who is hostile by the uniform was kinda hard for me xd but that will change ones you played every country for a few times^^
I can actually say that as an old Project Reality player that teached me alot things especially for recognising the camos and it gave me a good lesson, if you want to stay alive have a good game and enjoy your time aswell win then you have to use the mic. If you don't use the mic you can actually destroy the game for alot People don't be shy
PID in this game is the steepest learning curve for me as a new player, especially with the fear of TKing and getting kicked. I've stopped in front of an enemy not sure if I'm about to tk or not only to get killed
You'll get better. Some people also use the name tag poppup bit it's a cruch as it's slow and sometimes misleading. Another thing you can do is look at the map and keep track of where friendliest are near you in your FOV.
In this case I suggest you to start playing in servers that do a lot of matches with the faction Insurgent, because it's the faction with the most recognisable uniform. At least that's how I started.
I had an enemy walk right up to me with a knife and murder me and my teammates because I was too busy checking the map to see if he was my teammate lol. It’s hard to tell even now but I’m only like 13 hours in

as a console player, it is definitely difficult for me to adapt to the amount of team based communication there is. And also, the theme song of the game is epic.
The game starts fun and tactical and then descends into absolute boredom and frustration. Trying to be SL in this game is like trying to herd toddlers on coke.
I haven't played Squad in two years (almost to the day funny enough). As a time marker, there was no vaulting the last time I played. Steam says I put in just under 76 hrs. My biggest frustration was always not being able to tell enemies from friendly's. I was playing on an 8ish year old i5 with a 1050 gpu. I just upgraded to an i9 with a 4070ti gpu. Will the better hardware help, has the game graphics improved, or will I just have to squint harder to discern friend from foe?
USE. YOUR. MAP. it can help with the simplest things like figuring out who the hell is shooting you (which takes about 100 hours to get decent at) but if you open up your map and see what direction all the friendlies are looking that's probably the direction of whoevers shooting at you As you get more experienced you'll start to notice things like where and when people die and enemy marker patterns etc and eventually you'll be able to figure out where habs are just from the map map is important
i can never see the enemy ever ever ever ever ever ever oh and i cant even get in the same team squad as my friend. we havent been able to play a single game together

As a new player this game is infuriating. EXTREMELY hard to tell who the enemy is. 99% of the time you die you will have no idea where you got shot from. It's a great idea but its an entirely niche game. If you like not knowing who the enemy is then this is the game for you.
Knowing where you're being shot from and not knowing the enemy are 2 different things but both come with time and experience, but I understand the frustration as I went through the exact same when I first started in Squad
I got squad today, and I noticed that almost everyone playing this game is Russian or Ukrainian. I also noticed that the game won’t show you that you’re talking when you’re talking, you just need to trust that you’ve enabled your microphone
I literally got kicked 3 times in row for idle after i told im literally ultra new and had no idea what to do and where to go lol, mad and arrogant people ingame tbh, not pretty cool tbh
Me and a buddy just picked up squad for the sole purpose of commanding vehicles together. We are usually just war thunder players. So vehicles will be main focus. How fucked are we? Lmao
I really wish they would add team markers at all times. Seriously not everyone has a 40000000k 90 inch display. People complain it would take away from realism...sorry but its a game and not real to begin with, you want total realism, go play paintball.
Oddly enough, for about 2 months there wasn't any markers at all. You had to rely on your knowledge of what your uniform looked like and the enemies, whilst it was a shit show to start with after a few weeks it stopped. Even new players were learning and it made the game much more immersive and fun all round

Playing at higher resolution (2k / 4k) helps alot with that

Me and a buddy just picked up squad for the sole purpose of commanding vehicles together. We are usually just war thunder players. So vehicles will be main focus. How fucked are we? Lmao

I really wish they would add team markers at all times. Seriously not everyone has a 40000000k 90 inch display. People complain it would take away from realism...sorry but its a game and not real to begin with, you want total realism, go play paintball.
Oddly enough, for about 2 months there wasn't any markers at all. You had to rely on your knowledge of what your uniform looked like and the enemies, whilst it was a shit show to start with after a few weeks it stopped. Even new players were learning and it made the game much more immersive and fun all round
