@@CH-qt4hr I know everyone has their own scenarios, but having had a 3 and then a Y going on 4 years now, the frunk has been used all the time, sometimes even just to have stuff on me, without it taken up primary space. Spring to Summer I keep my mountain biking gear, in it as it can be dirty, stink, etc and thus nothing smelling up the cabin. But ready to go any moment with helmet, shoes, tools, glasses, towels, etc up there. That and some cleaners/etc can all be up there, and still have the car and trunk, etc empty looking. Which is also good to avoid theft. Or when on road trips for weekend or camping, it's crazy how much can fit in there, keeping the passenger area more clear. Also the 'deep trunk' area is similar as it's like bonus space to fit things in, yet not affect the day to day use of passenger area or even trunk space from looking empty. F150 of course has an amazing large frunk, and for anyone actually using it as a pickup for contracting work, you can store bunch of tools/etc in there and still have your bed and entire cabin clear, and avoid theft as most people don't even know it's a storage area, much less what is in it vs in cabin or pickup bed.

To be honest, visually I prefer the normal screen as opposed to the hyperscreen. I wonder if it even has any other benefit other than being more bling and having the passenger display.
I actually think the EQS looks better too. More elongated at least which helps. Neither is attractive to me, but this looks taller and stubbier than the EQS. It reminds me of cars like the 2nd gen (for the US) Honda Fit. While I actually really liked that car for what it is, the stubby, jellybean look does not work when the car is an $80-100,000 plus luxury sedan.
I'll keep saying it. MB needs a new EQ design language. How they went from the sleek and desirable EQS Vision concept to the EQS and this, I can't understand.

I saw a black one in a parking lot yesterday. It was a good looking car with the exception of the front end. There were 3 different shades of black in the plastic components of the front end. Not an attractive look.

That "It has a big trunk, but a small opening" is exactly the problem I have with my Lincoln MKS. However, on my MKS I cannot fold down the back seats, at least on this you can.
Opening size - which is why recently I couldn't fit my mother's suitcase into the trunk of my girlfriends Prius C, but inexplicably I was able to put it in the trunk of my 2000 miata.
There's something stuck in the back of my mind when I see Doug's videos with Mercedes-Benz cars. Those buttons (home, forward, backward) and overall the bottom UI on the infotainment look so much like the ones on the Windows Media Player 11
What normal working American even making $100,000 a year can afford these cars if they're $70,000 to $80,000 for base model cars the car scene is a joke nowadays
That panel is terrible. Imagine how Doug would grill a car company like Honda for having such a crappy dash (envision a bunch of Honda logos on a flat weird shaped panel). This is one of the worst values in the industry.
Fun quirk: the stars on the outside have an slightly increased angle between the bottom two lines - because its not allowed to illuminate oem logos on the outside of a car. Fun quirk 2: the touch slider for the sunroof is super unresponsive with dry hands - the mercedes development engineer always brought wet hand wipes to moisturize :D
Can't get hard for this. It looks like a Honda Accord that got stung by a bee. It's also unfathomable that I could use this for any of my driving needs. This is a monument to (and chiefly intended for) credentialed urbanites who think food miraculously springs into being behind the double doors at Whole Foods. The type of people who can't imagine why anyone would want to be more than a hundred miles from a charging outlet for any length of time.
The star dash would annoy me for regular use and driving if it was simply blacked out then I’m sold on it. Definitely looks great without the 56 inch display
"56 inch screen" No it isn't. It's 3 screens, with significant bezels between them. If that's a 56" screen, then a bin full of gameboys is a 200" screen.
Thank you! Cadillac and now Ford are playing the same silly game. GM is the worst in that a big part of the screen is a seperate screen devoted to light controls. What's the point? Its only useable for that one purpose, making it more screen-y than traditional light controls but not at all related to the actual screen in any way other than being a nearby screen. I have a 63" TV in the living room and 2 40 inch TVs in bedrooms. I can make them adjacent to each other. Does that mean I have a 143" TV?
General question. Shouldn’t all these electric cars actually be equipped with the least electric options like electric seats, seat heating, etc. in order to save battery power? 🤷🏼♂️
Mercedes could make so much more money if they just stuck a battery pack on their ICE Versions of the car like what BMW did with the new(but extremely ugly) 7 series. The EQ line up looks really ugly overall, everything looks like an egg.
@@bderris that’s fair, but honestly there’s a lot of cars out there that don’t have an egg shape and still get incredible range. You know Doug's lost his objectivity when he excuses a screen based volume control. There's something to be said for tactile feel, Mercedes vehicles used to come with knurled aluminum rollers that were clicky and satisfying to use.
As someone who works with rental cars every day: the sliders/capacitive touch/touch screen buttons are cool until they glitch or, especially in winter, when you wear gloves. Ill be impressed by that tech when it can detect gloves well and not glitch on me
I try not to fault a current cars styling. In 10+ years it might look great. This is how I've always perceived cars. I am older and didn't really think the styling of the 93 Camaro was good, it was really ugly to me. Fast forward today and I quite like them.
Nope, volume sliders are terrible. I had one in a Cadillac and it was horrendous. I can live with HVAC controls being on the screen as my Mach-E has that permanently docked at the bottom like Mercedes, but the volume control is still a dial. I avoided the slider issue by using steering wheel controls, but passengers could never figure it out, and would tap in the location on the slider they wanted the volume, rather than swiping. This either had no effect or would set the volume to 100%. Doug's Mercedes bias is showing a bit.

Same here. Also a bit like previous generation Honda CRV.
EQE just look so much cheaper than they actually are. If I didn't know better I'd say it looks like a 40k compact family car, and that goes for the EQS too.
I still can't believe the vaunted engineers at Mercedes couldn't come up with a better solution to fill the washer fluid. It's embarassing
That and 0 frunk at all. Just so odd how so many can't figure out how to do EV's right and take advantage of the things they should. Charge ports should be near seamless (Tesla or Rivian), much less washer fluid surely shouldn't look like a port on body panels
Doug is the type of guy to talk about the quirks and features of the Mercedes EQE windshield washer fluid location in a separate 60 second Shorts video
reminds me of a washing machine
That washer fluid cup reminds me of were you put detergent in a washing machine....
I've given this whole marathon through the comments section just to see this one. I knew I would find it. 😂😂😂
Those EQ Mercedes models are going to age like fine milk
I was thinking the EQS had weird proportions, EQE entered the chat. The profile of these cars remind me of the Chrysler Concorde/Intrepid.
The LH cars at least had front and rear ends to balance the absurdly bloated middle. This is just bloat and stubs.
Doug: I think it looks better than the EQS
Dougscore: EQE 5 styling, EQS 6 styling
For everyone who dreams about owning a giant Computer Mouse.
Where is that damn LoL emoji when you need it?!
My '09 VW GTI has the car emblem trunk opener. 14 years ago and Doug still loves it as if it's new. Keep up the good work Doug! Much love
I'll keep saying it. MB needs a new EQ design language. How they went from the sleek and desirable EQS Vision concept to the EQS and this, I can't understand.
15:34 when that shot cuts over and you see Doug didn’t put the seats back 😮
Doug is the type of guy to discover "Background Blur Filter" in 2023
Nice you just copied my comment onlyfans bot, you're comment got 149 likes while mine got only 16 when my comment got deleted for some reason. Unfair how RUclips treats it's users these days
I like how Doug is amazed every time the trunk opening is the car logo. it's like on half the cars on the road...
I saw a black one in a parking lot yesterday. It was a good looking car with the exception of the front end. There were 3 different shades of black in the plastic components of the front end. Not an attractive look.
The washer fluid filler is at perfect urinal height 😎
It seems to be a cheap plastic spring-loaded thing. I wonder if it locks with the doors like a 2011 Jetta S 2.slow's filler door or if they were too cheap for even that.
😂
Doug is the type of guy to slip a stripper a note saying "hey, you don't have to do this"
huge fail on trying to be even a litte funny
"check out cars and bits instead"
Doug's the type of guy to criticize a stripper for the quality of her quirks and features.
@TwinTurbo Ray are you a stripper?
You were in my neck of the woods I live in the area! Doug been watching your videos for the past decade lol
I've been watching your channel for a very long time, and its awesome to technically see one of my cars in your video.
I bought that red E28 in your Cars & Bids ad at 0:54! Thanks Doug!
Congrats! Enjoy the car
Nice one, son!
Yikes $80k? That’s base Model S money 😅 I know what I’d pick lol
Doug: EQE is better looking then EQS. EQS styling score: 6. EQE styling score: 5. 🗿
I checked out an EQE as well and found that it did not have the WOW factor, exactly as Doug described. Nice review!
He gets paid by manufactueres?
That "It has a big trunk, but a small opening" is exactly the problem I have with my Lincoln MKS. However, on my MKS I cannot fold down the back seats, at least on this you can.
Opening size - which is why recently I couldn't fit my mother's suitcase into the trunk of my girlfriends Prius C, but inexplicably I was able to put it in the trunk of my 2000 miata.
"Design looks better on this scale"
Doug is high
Blaaaaand like unsalted oatmeal. That kind looks like 2nd generation Dodge Neon.
YES
There's something stuck in the back of my mind when I see Doug's videos with Mercedes-Benz cars. Those buttons (home, forward, backward) and overall the bottom UI on the infotainment look so much like the ones on the Windows Media Player 11
this is exactly how you design the car when you want it to get discontinued, petrolheads’ job indeed 😂
Even Walter White wouldn't drive this car.
Doug the type of guy to forget to put the rear seats back up when he goes on a drive
Have fun paying monthly for heated seats, and horsepower unlock 🤣
Idk why but when Doug said “ not too many people gonna get it” made me laugh😂😂😂😂😂
What normal working American even making $100,000 a year can afford these cars if they're $70,000 to $80,000 for base model cars the car scene is a joke nowadays
Rich people virtue signaling transport pods.
Definitely should be making more than $100k to buy a car this experience.
crazy how the EQE costs as much as the gas S class now
The running costs should end up a whole lot different though, especially in Europe...
@@rkan2 still costs about twice what it should.
Check again lol
This starred instrument panel is like a huge blank switch for those who didn't have the "courage" to get the monster screen
That panel is terrible. Imagine how Doug would grill a car company like Honda for having such a crappy dash (envision a bunch of Honda logos on a flat weird shaped panel). This is one of the worst values in the industry.
The EQE is the same price as the Lexus LS… I know which one I’d rather have.
The new Toyota Prius looks very nice
Fun quirk: the stars on the outside have an slightly increased angle between the bottom two lines - because its not allowed to illuminate oem logos on the outside of a car.
Fun quirk 2: the touch slider for the sunroof is super unresponsive with dry hands - the mercedes development engineer always brought wet hand wipes to moisturize :D
Depreciation is a real killer on the EQE
Fantastic review How about price ?
Can't get hard for this. It looks like a Honda Accord that got stung by a bee. It's also unfathomable that I could use this for any of my driving needs. This is a monument to (and chiefly intended for) credentialed urbanites who think food miraculously springs into being behind the double doors at Whole Foods. The type of people who can't imagine why anyone would want to be more than a hundred miles from a charging outlet for any length of time.
The star dash would annoy me for regular use and driving if it was simply blacked out then I’m sold on it. Definitely looks great without the 56 inch display
"56 inch screen"
No it isn't.
No one:
Doug: this one being affordable priced at 87000
General question. Shouldn’t all these electric cars actually be equipped with the least electric options like electric seats, seat heating, etc. in order to save battery power? 🤷🏼♂️
Screens in cars is ok with me. But for drivers gauges, I prefer analog .
Mercedes could make so much more money if they just stuck a battery pack on their ICE Versions of the car like what BMW did with the new(but extremely ugly) 7 series. The EQ line up looks really ugly overall, everything looks like an egg.
@pruhnav
I agree. However, they probably had to design this egg to make up for the otherwise pathetic mileage range.
@@bderris that’s fair, but honestly there’s a lot of cars out there that don’t have an egg shape and still get incredible range.
Take a look at the NIO ET7, looks hella nice, and gets like 620 miles of range. It does maintain decent looks while not sacrificing it all for range. This one is just outright bad design. They could’ve designed it better
🏉
It is a great option if you park it inside your garage and claim your home fire insurance someday.
I feel like that giant piano black grill is going to age horribly and get tons of rock chips, bug splats etc over the years
Just wait until the sticker backing peels and the clear plastic yellows. I'm certain that's how they give it depth.
hand trajectory of efficiency in airplane mode in landing
this thing looks like it's melted in the sun. also not a juke
My dad has one, not by choice by the way. The thing drives like a mercedes sprinter van. Its heavy as shit, i can feel it dive over bumps and railroads because of the weight. On the other hand it has really accurate steering. No visibility all around, windshield is to slanted rear window is as big as a side window and the a pillar is always in the way.
You know Doug's lost his objectivity when he excuses a screen based volume control. There's something to be said for tactile feel, Mercedes vehicles used to come with knurled aluminum rollers that were clicky and satisfying to use.
I saw that drawer for fluids somewhere before: washing machine.😂😂
You know they’re in the infancy of EV’s when they use aerodynamics to maximize range. Best not to buy until these mature and become more capable 😊
Best to never buy evs with their horrendous battery life
As someone who works with rental cars every day: the sliders/capacitive touch/touch screen buttons are cool until they glitch or, especially in winter, when you wear gloves.
It won't last 10 years
Excellent review 👏
Mercedes-Benz is my weakness, but not sure about the shape, other than that. I love about everything else. ❤🎉
Around 90k specced in Belgium with only 2 years of warranty…good luck in two years.
Imagine the cost of battery replacement on an electric Mercedes 💀💀💀
@@michaelfjmusic Reports say for the new Lexus EV transportation solution it's around $48k. In a $65k vehicle.
So that fingerprint is going to be sent to some database to be sold.
Why are most major manufacturers obsessed with making electric cars look rubbish compared to their ICE brethren?
It looks like a melting 2000 Audi a6
I am only watching because it's Doug, because I am not really into electric cars
Personally feel like the design language works better on the EQS than on the EQE. The EQE looks like a bulbous egg on wheels. I do agree that they knocked it out of the park with the wheels - I was tricked and didn't think they were flats until Doug pointed it out.
They can’t be serious with these designs. What in the actual fuck. Makes Tesla look good. This is like Hyundai Ioniq 6
Warning to whoever buys this car: you will NOT be able to get up your driver profile, as Doug has already set his fingerprints in this video!
This washer fluid doors remind me of a washing machine. Wonder if someone will put there Tide Pods 😂
