  • Delkevic Exhaust Fitting Guide | Honda CB750 4 to 1 Pipe Sound | Motorcycle Project | Part 19
    In this Honda CB750 project episode, I fit a Delkevic exhaust to my CB750 project bike. I am building this bike to be a road-going runner, not a full restoration so a high-quality aftermarket exhaust pipe is what I required.
    Delkevic CB750K Stainless 4 into 1 exhaust system: ebay.us/Iwge5g
    This bike was originally found with a strange 4 into 2 exhaust system with parts missing. The headers were dented, and the complete one side looked more like a wood burner stove pipe than part of a motorcycle.
    While I was getting the engine to run I fitted an old set of exhausts that I originally took from a K0 project that I bought from America. They were short 4 into 2 slash cut pipes in usable condition. I had replaced them with a Delkevic system for that bike and liked the new exhaust very much. That exhaust was the Delkevic cone, megaphone style, whereas this time I've decided to go for the straight Delkevic exhaust.
    I saw a good set of Delkevic exhausts for sale on social media at a really good price. So I bought them straight away. I didn’t fit them at first so that I didn’t risk marking them while I was working on the bike.
    At first, I fitted them with the rear bracket on the outside of the rear footrest hanger. But I quickly realised that not only did this make the silencer stick out too far, it meant the stay for the centre stand didn’t work correctly. To get them to fit on the inside of the footrest hanger I had to fashion a simple extension to the bracket. Basically a bit of chromed bar with two 8mm holes drilled into it, about 25mm apart, so that the exhaust sits a little lower. I had to do this with the first set too.
    I think that they look great and sound good too, so I am very pleased with them.

    Thanks for posting. I have a 72 CB750 that I rescued from being dumped in a field. I like the T-shirt. I also have a 71 BSA Lightning that is a bitsa.

    Thanks for documenting the process. I have a 71 barn find where the factory baffles are rusted through at several seams. Just yesterday I took them off and dumped several pounds of seeds, insulation, and rust chunks. This looks like a good sounding option.

      It's always amazing what you find when resurrecting a barn find bike. Sounds like you'll definitely need a new exhaust then! I can confirm that the Delkevic is a great choice. :)

    Great job mate. I have a 1975 Honda 750k5. It has aftermarket 2 into 2 on it which sounds pretty good but I wish it had the factory 4 into 4. I don't have money to do that though. Maybe someday lol. Peace and long life!

      Cheers! Yeah the factory 4-to-4 exhausts have become like hen's teeth. Worth a fortune. It's a shame really.

    Ratchet straps are the answer to all prayers when dealing with exhaust syatems. They can be used to keep the exhaust pipes in place and they can be used to force the silencer in place.

    • @SPANNERRASH

      Absolutely, they are a godsend for this job.

    Great video! I just put this same exhaust on my 1973 CB750 K3 last week, and I ended up using the supplied spacers to move the bracket a bit inboard to make everything line up. It took a bit of forcing to get everything to line up, but it eventually did.
    To anyone thinking of buying this exhaust, it sounds a lot nicer than any of the videos convey. You have the ability to remove the baffles, but I'm not sure why you would do that. It sounds great the way it is.

      Awesome, it is a fiddly job but well worth it. I'm a big fan of how these Delkevic exhaust systems sound. They really are sublime.

      @@SrgBlueBalls They’re loud-ish. They sound like any other performance exhaust that you would find on a modern sport bike. They DO NOT have the same sound as a stock exhaust.

    Thanks for this. Y USA 1975 CB750F 4 into 1 exhaust has a tatty almost homemade looking megaphone silencer. Sounds the business, maybe too much so. After a very long break I’m starting to look again at the options for replacing it, so this is a contender. Any others with a good price point, new or secondhand? Could have got those springs on when I first did the major rebuild back in 1998, now I doubt it. I’d have to call on the services of the next generation of spanner turners in the family.😊

    Do you know the torque settings for the header bolts? I hand tighten mine, then after a run have to again - I need to get some lock washers, and find that torque setting. If you got it, thanks -

    • @SPANNERRASH
      @SPANNERRASH  Год назад

      My understanding is that there isn't a set torque for the header bolts because of the crush washers. The wisdom seems to be, hand tight, then 1/4 extra turn, check if it leaks then an extra 1/4 if it does, maximum of 3/4 of a turn overall. If still leaking start again with another crush washer. I also use exhaust assembly past which does seem to help stop leaks. Whatever you do, don't over tighten, you can pull the studs out of the head, they only screw into the alloy. Hope this helps, good luck.

    • @ClassicRider
      @ClassicRider Год назад

      @@SPANNERRASH Thanks - there has got to be a torque setting - right now it is hand tightening. I relly on those crush washers, but . . .

      They can be really difficult and there are lots of different ways that you can hurt yourself if you aren't careful.
      A good trick I have seen is to put a strong cable tie through the end of the spring so you can pull on that to put it in place. It's the one I will use in the future.
