i was a kid in the 70s in Oklahoma, my father worked at a truck stop out in the country and he would often take me to work with him in the summer when school was out. i grew up around the truck stop and there were all these characters that hung our and worked there, all these old school country guys and i was always exposed to that classic 40s 50s 60s country and western music. meanwhile in the 70s and into the early 80s the whole 50s/60s nostalgia craze was happening with things like American Graffiti and Happy Days so i was always hearing 50s Rock and R&B and knew it just as well as i knew the current hits of the day.
i think hearing Elvis's version of "That's Alright Mama" as a kid really planted something in me, i still think that recording is one of the greatest most magical things ever put to record. and of course in my tweens is when The Stray Cats were really big and people often do not want to give them credit because they are not looked upon as cool but they had their place. but a few years later in my teens i discovered The Blasters self titled album and what a great piece of music.
it was so great getting to see Glen Glenn and Johnny Powers in this doc, thank you so much for sharing.

England's Rockabilly revivals from the 70s onwards and flying the old stars over when America didn't want to know, it was us that was keeping it going.

I listen to a lot of Rockabilly, especially lots and lots of bands that never broke big, but cut albums and singles in the 50's & 60's. Rockabilly had the same problem as Punk - there were only a handful of artists or bands that were really good, with high-quality lyrics to their songs. However, there were tons of others trying to play it, and their lyrics were bland, uninspiring, blatant rip-offs of Elvis or Carl Perkins, etc. Most of them could do passable music, but the rest of the song was usually easy to forget.

To everybody in general, yeah sure with as with any documentary you're not going to be able to get every single talented noteworthy artist... But more importantly have to ask, do they accurately portray the scene & the people behind it, and what they stand for?...
Honestly I don't know, I wasn't exposed before this documentary, but they seemed to at least do a half decent enough job

Hell yeah, he used hairspray to get the look on the Runaway Boys album and videos. That's why we all started copying him in the early 80's. It was the only way to get the gravity defying quiff. Then with psychobilly, it was a must. But shit, I went back to grease about a decade ago. A 30 year full circle. All the best from Australia.

01:55 in The biggest band with the make up and cats in their name were American. Don't disparage the Brits, do a bit of research and you'll find out that the rockabilly revival started in the UK.

No offense, but Elvis sort of switched from singing rockabilly to coumtry flavored pop and ballads after his stint in the Army. The music died around 1958 or 1959. Top rockabilly musicians who didn’t switch to pop or country or didn’t find a different profession ended up in a coffin, an invalid, in jail, or drafted. It took the Beach boys and the British invasion to resurrect rock in America several years later. Almost 20 years past before rockabilly was played again.
