I remember really enjoying this when I first watched it back in '87. Thought time might have lessened it's appeal. Luckily I was wrong, really enjoyed indulging in this nostalgia fest. 'It's A Knockout' was always hilarious. Thanks for sharing!
Honestly, I love it because Edward is so sweet and he’s just a teenager and his older siblings and their spouses are supportive and it’s kind of like awkward school, photos or family photos only it’s a video I love this because it’s the most human I’ve ever seen the royal family with all due respect and I understand why you can’t act to silly in general and hold a certain title or position but I actually love this. It’s like a fun family video. It’s really touching and beautiful.
This was broadcast in America on the USA Network. I remember how fun it was to watch as an 8 year old. I just saw a clip, and was laughing myself silly. So I'm glad the whole thing is here to watch again!

Why was this special so looked down upon? I've read so much negative press about this yet I thought it was great fun and nice to see the Royals involved in something different to usual duties.
Today...a strong 'maybe.' In 1987, this was a huge embarrassment and saturated the tabloids for weeks, mostly for Edward's snooty behavior (when questioned by the press after) and Fergie acting like a right buffoon. It was deemed very undignified for that time.

Very british, makes me think of Benny Hill. A smile when l see some royals who, once, act as they were genuinly able to smile of themselves in public. They usually play their characters so seriously, even when they are just scandalous or immoral. This is not scandalous at all

Anyone else watching this after Richard and Marina mentioned it on their podcast?
I wonder how many people check this video out after todays Just the Gist episode lol

Hi there ;)
✋
Me!
I love Princess Anne. Always dignified with droll humor no matter the situation.
Monty Python's 'Upper class twit of the year' without irony

I can't believe Princess Anne agreed to this debacle lol
At least her team won.

Having fun is more important than reputation. You are not free, as longs as you care, what other people think about you.

This was funny at the time and still good to see now in 2023. Lovely to see so many stars, in their younger days, who are no longer with us.❤
I was going to joke RIP Stuart Hall but the fucker is still alive according to Wikipedia!
I had to look this up after they referenced it in the windsors sitcom on Netflix. 😂

You were lucky to be in America being an 8-year-old with Stuart Hall at the front door and Jimmy Savile at the back.

Because people thought it was not Royal behavior, and put them on a common level. I don't happen to agree, I thought it was wonderful!

I think it’s wonderful, the Royals NEEDED to have some fun and to show they have fun
You just don’t get it.
Brilliant 1a.m gin and tonic viewing 🧡
Such a throwback. I remember this so well. At some point someone calls Meatloaf "Meaty" and that stuck in my family's vocabulary since.
