Stuart Hall's laughter acts on me like a wonderful tonic. It is pure joy!

These were taken more seriously than the actual Olympics when you were a young kid !

This just brought tears to my eyes; from laughter at Stuart Hall and the adorable non-stop hilarity that was Eddie Waring - and to better times, when the World seemed to be full of joy and laughter. So, thank you for sharing these amazing moments in time with us all.

BBC One - Jeux Sans Frontières compilation 1981 2147pm 24.4.22 how did this get to feature on t.v? it is the french presidential election via the medium of mime and action/image/exchange, is i tnot? do not get me wrong.. i loved this show. but looking back on old clips i am thinking: wtf!!!? how much dope did the flemish or walloon guy toke to conjure such an affrontery to god's holy orders..? by satan's portion i declare this moribund nation to be in need of some such similar gameshow japes to be brought forth for the viewer's delectation.... i know they have a game show replete with water course and krypton factor assault course escapades featured on itv saturdays...or did!!... nut jobs take note - where else can you get chaps dressed in ten foot frankenstein costumes undertaking a strenuous water based feature or seriously being allowed to drive in prof pat pendick style whacky races get up and in all seriousness demanding to be allowed to win the race...? the stadia were packed when they filmed this. and it sums up the might of euro innovation when this is what brings europe together en masse - not banking dictates or the plight of our fellow men.... but it's a knock out. plain and simple.

    Wonderful.
The 'national' It's a knock out games, were terrible, rained-out sunday-afternoon, village fete affairs (but without the budget), played by depressed brits who would clearly rather be in the pub - or had just been dragged out from it.
Where as 'Internation' Jeux Sans Frontieres, were glamourous late night flood lit mega-spctaculars, in exotic locations, played with deadly seriousness by athletes with years of training and an iron will to win - and all the funnier for it.
As a ten year old Jeux Sans Frontieres was the high light of my TV viewing year - and its looks even better now in colour!
    Happy days.

couldn't agree more... that old: do we have to include the british mentality shined through to great fanfare. and the fact none of the euopeans knew who our celeb laughter merchants were (presenting the festival) was the highlight of our elitist brit eff you persona. it was a fine show. and as much as these dolts want to besmirch the past - i can safely say, as you point out, the glorious effusive and effervescent european sunshine meant that most folk of school age were indoors watching this of a saturday night (prior to starksy and hutch and the match of the day...). the iron will to win was there for sure. as much as it was absurd and effed up - the attitude to win at most costs was evident. again; probably cos the GB side were in attendance and they (the euro clique) couldnt have them winning it, could they? is there anyone out there with a fine memory who can recall how many end of year games the brits won over the course of the it's a knock out franchise - cos they should write in and answer the question: how many times did the GB team win the it's a knock-out yearly festival games? the games wouldn't work now as everyone has sampled the wonders of the spliff and the bruitist (sic) brits who couldnt fathom what the eff it was all about will now be clued up the inane craziness of the ideas that brought us UBU based escapades such as this... adios, half hearted europeans... and welcome public house meanderers...

This was a weird show. Much better than the "reality shows" of the last 10+ years. Those were more hopeful times.

I found this video because of Peter Gabriel's video lyrics Games Without Frontiers. The lyrics read Jeux sans frontières. Being American and not speaking whichever language that is (French?) I looked it up and found your video. OMG! The stupidity of tell lie vision programming! albeit funny to some people.

It was HUGE all around Europe in the early 70’s - hysterically funny , but Americans aren’t fond of laughing at themselves so I understand why your incredulous 🤦‍♂️
