This video really makes me love Karl for 2 reasons. First, he’s totally fine admitting that he was wrong. And second, he never says that he is the person to get the new record. He boasts about how great that run is but never says he made it better. Love the guy
I love how many of the records you bring up have yourself as the person who beat it ;) A quiet (not so subtle) nod to your own skill and place in the games history.
It never ceases to amaze me that people continue, unironically, to use "I couldn't do it, therefore _no one_ could do it" as justification for something not being possible.
Going back to this after a while, I think what I love about Karl, and also summoningsalt, is that they big up so many speedrunners and call them all the ‘best the game has seen’ but they are arguably also in contention in their respective games (goldeneye and perfect dark, and punchout). Humble kings
new to your channel (somehow just occurred to me to check if people play goldeneye competitively and this came up). I respect the humility showing you doubting the first player! Subscribed!
This was an absolutely amazing video, and the one that got me to subscribe after a few days of watching. To see how much respect you have for these players is wonderful. Knowing that you beat two of the records mentioned is phenomenal. I only just gained an interest in Goldeneye speedrunning from a spectator view, so seeing names and faces to some untied records is really cool. Thank you so much for this video. I look forward to more in the future, and hope this game continues to entertain you for years to come.
Never underestimate the younguns. They are crafty little buggers. The best Battlefield player I've ever known on Xbox was 9 years old. His name was Greatest30. He alone could've taken on absolutely everyone else in the clan at the same time and won. He literally got the most kills in a match on the largest map in the game with nothing but the knife. By a factor of *_two._* He was horrifying. He was one of the main reasons I retired from competitive shooters. In my prime, I was untouchable, but it was clear at that time that I was old hat. Hope he's doing well. His future is brighter than mine. He seemed to look up to me, but he really shouldn't have.
"The greatest Goldeneye player of all times is, of course, myself... just kidding" - Wouldn't have minded hearing this joke, you deserve a shout out every now and then.
Ryan White brought me here, but I must say your videos are just as good. I really think you are a good runner and a good content creator. Imho a true legend. Keep it up Karl!
particularly in cases like Rayan, I'm quite interested to know what these people do in their lives, are they in other ways totally normal? Are they geniuses? What kind of lives do they have after speedrunning?
It’s just a passion for the game, obviously combined with good motor skills. If someone’s really passionate they will dedicate themselves without even knowing they are dedicated, they just love it. Obviously people like Rayan are on the extreme end of things.
Karl uses the word “career” really loosely as none of these guys are actually speed-running for a consistent salary. Rayan probably just grew up and had to focus more on school and what not.
One thing I really like about you, is you point out you said something negative, and show what you said, but when you beat a record, you just say the record was beaten, you don't credit yourself, or over grandize yourself, I find that really admirable.
I know it’s probably been said but... Karl, you forgot a name on this list: yours. You’re an absolute legend, dude. You might be your own biggest critic, but, the dedication you put in to this game to achieve your world records- not only that but the games you grind out just for video research leaves you as one of the most versatile legend in the speedrunning community. We as viewers, and all speedrunning communities are better off for you being here. And for that, if I may be so bold... I name you the fourth Absolute Legend of Goldeneye Speedrunning
I just wanted to let you know. I do not play golden eye. But the heart of ambition you capture in documenting these absolute legends. Has made me fall in love with things I don’t understand. Truly gentleman scholars exists among you. And life knows no greater spirit. Forever a fan of yours and all who hold this spirit - Feral
One thing that makes this video good is Karl not taking the opportunity to buff himself up when he himself took records from the boys. Fair play, mate.
Great vid though I’d have to give the 1 spot to Ace for the pure longevity. Boss and Wouter were both dominant in their primes, but this man has been setting UWRs for nearly 15 years now!
True and he is even better in perfect dark! Absolutely insane, when he is playing, he is the best, hope he will play many years to come. He just need more free time to play
What a fantastic thumbnail for a fantastic video. Coming from gooses channel and subbing. RUclips NEEDS more GE Speed running content. Karl is a fucking mad man, so I should have been subbed sooner. I hope to see more content like this in the future :)
Hey man, really enjoying your videos and the time you put into them. Just a thought, would love to hear more detail about the development of technique which leads to new records - much more interesting when you learn what the new player did differently to succeed, and seeing how playstyles evolve over time. You do this a bit already (like in the lookdown video for GE) but your videos are strongest when you go into that sort of detail, even if it means only focusing on one level in particular. Anyway I'm enjoying your stuff, thanks for making it.

Cringe.
@@fnco Oh look, another 9 year old.
Ignore that dumb kid from before. I for one love hearing these stories.
"I was untouchable" lol yeah sure you were mate... 😂😂😂
i wonder if he became a streamer
My guess before video starts:
1. Wouter Jansen
2. Bryan Bosshardt
3. Perfect Ace
Not bad, you picked the same 3 guys at least Haha
It's refreshing to see video game history being documented and shared.
He starts off each entry in the countdown to Natalya somersaulting out of the Control elevator from a mine explosion
Oh lawdie, my sides.
The GOATS of speedrunning. Love your videos Karl!
Keep it up Karl!
thanks so much
Dude love your channel and super cool watching it growing so fast!
particularly in cases like Rayan, I'm quite interested to know what these people do in their lives, are they in other ways totally normal? Are they geniuses? What kind of lives do they have after speedrunning?
It’s just a passion for the game, obviously combined with good motor skills. If someone’s really passionate they will dedicate themselves without even knowing they are dedicated, they just love it. Obviously people like Rayan are on the extreme end of things.
Just normal life. It is a hobby after all.
Karl uses the word “career” really loosely as none of these guys are actually speed-running for a consistent salary. Rayan probably just grew up and had to focus more on school and what not.
Love your speed running videos. I loved goldeneye as a kid but never got to speed run very well
music choices on point as always. secret of the forest is ++
One thing I really like about you, is you point out you said something negative, and show what you said, but when you beat a record, you just say the record was beaten, you don't credit yourself, or over grandize yourself, I find that really admirable.
Loving these type of videos Karl, keep it up, and keep your runs up as well!
Karl really broke 4/5 of the longest standing world records in Goldeneye history
This guy is awesome! Always great to see a fellow aussie making great content mate
you are the ken burns of video game speedrunning. great stories. the way you give credit to others is amazing. your research is awesome. thanks
I think this is my favorite video of yours, awesome job
i dont even really speedrun but im addicted to your vids. keep it up karl
The video was absolutely perfect and entertaining and I gladly subscribed
Legend
I just wanted to let you know.
I do not play golden eye.
But the heart of ambition you capture in documenting these absolute legends. Has made me fall in love with things I don’t understand.
Truly gentleman scholars exists among you. And life knows no greater spirit.
Forever a fan of yours and all who hold this spirit - Feral
One thing that makes this video good is Karl not taking the opportunity to buff himself up when he himself took records from the boys. Fair play, mate.
great video Karl, this is the content i love.
Awesome vid! 23 minutes and it came on my birthday :D
Wow happy birthday you legend
Happy Bdat Jake! :)
Hbd
Damn, Rayan’s parents had the next spelling bee phenom on their hands if he wasn’t so distracted
It seems they were a bit distracted themselves!
Big boss ftw. A nice tribute. Well done.
