This was easily my favorite video you've ever made man. The selection in games you chose to talk about was really nice and it felt like there was something for everyone. It was really cool to learn about some of the games I didn't know about, Like Outlast and Tools of Destruction. Just a phenomenal job! Thanks for putting me and Kara in the video briefly too :3 To answer your final words at the end, I think its difficult to come up with a "best speedrunner" without at least creating some kind of categories. When I think of the best speedrunner at a single game my mind first goes to Perfect Ace in GoldenEye & Perfect Dark. It is one of the games that has been run the most throughout time, and Ace has always been a step above the competition for nearly 15 years now. His records are some of the greatest ever set, and barely anyone can stand up to him when he decides to grind a certain stage. For speedrunners who excel at multiple games I think coolkid is a very good contender. He was extremely skilled at Quake and Half-Life back in his early career and has now moved onto disintegrate essentially every NES game he touches. I have a lot more names to mention in both categories if you ever wanna chat about it in DMs but those two names stick out to me. If you do decide to tackle such a video, I think covering multiple runners gives credit to the larger speedrunning community as a whole, kinda like how you did with this video! In any case I was hooked for the full duration of this, great work man and keep it up ❤
A friend mentioned that my stream footage was used in this video for Frontiers 16:03 don't worry I'm not mad or nothing if anything I'm happy my suffering in pinball was used for something productive. I've been a big fan of yours for years now so if anything I'm honored :)
I make sure my team and I credit every source we use in our videos. I've been the victim of people stealing my content w/o credit in the past, so I don't ever wanna do that to someone else. Thank you for understanding, and if you ever have any comments/questions/concerns in the future about this sort of thing, you can always hit me up on discord: xemmypoo I'm so sorry you had to suffer through pinball like this 😂
It's interesting just how prevalent the "Back in my days" or "uphill both ways" mentality can be, in regards to the Borderlands 2 example with a vocal part of the playerbase being against the solution.
Your knowledge combined with your excitement of various games from differing genres really shows how passionate you are about the speedrunning community in its _entirety_ and that is honestly kind of a beautiful thing.
Ayy Dayoman got in! Dude's reactions are the best. Got to say, this is probably one of your best edited videos thus far. Wonderful work, Xem. A great video to see after my birthday. The Tools of Destruction segment was a surprise to me since I didn't know you could even skip that section. Also shoutout to Karl Jobst, I hope in his victory against Billy and for further speedrunning feats. I hope you've been well man.
Hey Xem92 it seems my comment disappeared so im reposting. To answer your question you posed, you are, in my opinion the greatest speedrunner. The reason is that: 1) You are incredible at setting your mind to something and reaching that goal. 2) You are the greatest Rac runner of all time as you keep setting the standard for Rac runs in so nany different categories. 3) Yoy take soeedrunning and make it so immersive and incredible to watch. Thanks for everything you do and incredible video as always.
The technical term for the locations you call gutterballs in the _Sonic Frontiers_ pinball section is “outlanes”. Also, extra points for properly pluralizing “magnum opus”.
Without wanting to sound too cheesy, I think you would be a good contender for the best speedrunner of all time. You absolutely dominated the OG RaC Trilogy for YEARS. If we were to add up all the different record you held/hold the result could legally make an Onlyfans account, maybe even its children could. Anyways, great video, as always! I didn't know Outlast had such an active speedrunning community. Great game selection!
don’t understand why the BL2 runners didn’t just create two categories for runs. preset load, or random load. happiness for both sides but i guess people like to be mad.
Yo I fucks with the vibe of this. For people to follow, I would recommend Klooger or Whose for modern-FPS titles. Klooger is almost entirely COD based, and is likely someone you have seen if you have ever been recommended a COD training run WR. Whose library spans across more franchises, and has been the person to route or optimise most of the Battlefield and MOH franchise. For a curveball, a good friend of mine WestRoadZ has just had the 4 year anniversary of his marathon Platinum% run of Gran Turismo Sport. A 9 and a half day endurance test that is sadly no longer replicable due to the server closure at the start of the year. That record is still the fastest completion on psnprofiles by just under a week RTA.
Your final question has two main answers: either someone like ShiFT and MKDasher who completely dominated their games for a time, or someone like Smallant or Linkus7 who manage to play at a top level in a wide variety of games. It's also worth shouting out three speedrunning pioneers in AndrewG, Tom Votava, and Matt Turk. They ran in an era with fewer resources and a primitive community and the rest of us build off the backs of their work every day.
This was really well done and bringing light to these communities and their relentless spirit is great for everyone. As someone who tracks Spyro speedrunning, you did great. I also had not tracked Frontiers speedruns at all and had no idea they'd skipped pinball! Wow! As for your question: It's really tough, but I think Matthias Rustemeyer from MK64 would be pretty good. Absolutely dominant for an eternity.
Great content again Xem, everything about your recent videos improves each time from editing to scripts to narration and beyond. Keep it up! Also bless the Spyro 1 WR pop offs, no one else goes harder than them
Great video! I actually learnt a fair amount here - there's this notion that speedrunning, from a glance, is just old nintendo games and mario 64 and stuff, but actually learning about quake and even some out there picks like outlast and borderlands was really insightful! fantastic as ever~ also, you're not bald! insert melon emote :D
Fantastic video, definitely your best get. Shorter (10ish min?) speed running videos on a varied games or tricks would work really well, especially with your current style.
The greatest speedrunner is hard to say, because it's hard to categorize. You could go with someone who has had the longest domination in a game or category, someone that's run many games, a face of the community, someone that brought many people into speedrunning, etc. I keep going back and forth between like 25 people.
Banger video! Greatest speedrunner of all time? Now that's a tough one... the immediate first thought that comes to mind is whoever it was that took every single IL record in Mario Kart 64, then whoever it was that was fighting for the record in Super Mario Bros., but then again I don't closely follow those scenes so I'm not super familiar with them. So for the scenes I do follow, I'm thinking about some of the people who run multiple games and are masters at them so my mind goes to either Dayoman or OutrageousJosh, but I feel like I haven't actually watched Dayo run Spyro 2, so the only person I can think of is OutrageousJosh. Like he is a fantastic runner at all of the Jak games, which is impressive because Jak 1 is a very different genre from Jak 2 and 3 which is yet another different genre from Jak X and I'm pretty sure he's held world records in literally all of those games, some of them in multiple categories at the same time so I've honestly gotta give it up for him.
I know he's been talked about by summoningsalt, but i personally think Arcus should be talked about more. Its a meme answer because burrito speedruns but its a serious answer because ninja gaiden speedruns. Love the content xem❤
seeing ToD made me happy: I am teaching myself to speedrun it (it's the first video game I played, beat, and 100%) And my biggest problem was how terrible ASS was. I'm actually quite decent at a lot of the skips, but ASS just wasn't one of them. And then I learned about GASS. I went from willingly doing the autoscrolls because I didn't want to suffer through ASS, to being a bit more willing to attempt skipping the damn autoscrollers
great video Xem, some of the games covered in here are among my absolute favorites so it almost felt tailor made for me to watch! i don't really have an answer for best Speedrunner of all time, but i like Hypnoshark! well, and you as well, Xem. so y'all have my vote!
greatest speedrunner of all time: look into Rayan Isran aka PerfectAce, a goldeneye and perfect dark prodigy. I think back when he joined in the mid 2000s he was around 11 years old, he is still dominating to this day (rank 1 in both games aka Dual Champion)
56:56 I would say either Xelna for having insane achievements in link to the past and the literal 20 year streak of dominance in marble blast gold, niftski for obvious reasons, or sidious for his takeover and obliteration of portal speedrunning
Choosing a single greatest speedrunner is pretty much impossible, but different games have their prodigies. From the top of my mind I'd say Niftski, PerfectAce, Suigi, Zeromaster, andrewg, Werster, zoast, Sockfolder
The greatest speedrunner of all time is a big thing, especially with so many games and so many different places, but ZeroMaster has to be up there. Impossible world records in the original Doom 1 and 2, and continuing to do records in the modern Doom 2016 and Eternal.
About your end question, I personally don't really have a singular answer but it'd be interesting if you created distinct categories of speedrunner and who's the best in each one, kinda like the speedrunning OSCARs. so youd have like, the longest current wr holder, most wrs, most concurrent wrs at one time, most amount of different games with a wr, best glitch hunter. Just some ideas for it, you could easily like make updated videos on it too as things change or you get new info. Yes, this is a bit of an expansion of the scope you asked for but I don't really think theres any videos that'd be like this on youtube.
Funny thing about that ratchet run is back in casual legend of dragoon play, we your swipe a pen over the x button to build up the item damage percent at an insane speed with very good results if you held your fingers between the button on each side... if only he didn't use a ds stylus lol. It did however fuck up at least two or three controllers over time.
Also udk the player/run count numbers, but a fun bonus lighting round could be mods saving speedruns. Race file in SMS, HRH mod in Bioshock Infinite, etc.
The best speedrunner would be the goat Mathias for Mario Kart 64, unfortuantely, it also shows the dark side of speedrunning with the dishonesty of the other runners (hiding wr, secret alliances etc.)
Great video Xem! Also, in response to your question, I think that a lot of the 2D Mario speedrunners like MitchFlowerPower and A lot of the SM64 runners like cheese. Maybe even shift for his insane dominance in BfBB (and you know you touched on him in the ruined speedruns video, but still.) That’s my awnser to your question!
for the question best speedrunner id put foward someone you talked about in the video being 247Yugioh just from how he dominates the entire future line of ratchet and clank he basically has every single world record in those games
Bewildebeest. Man runs one of the longest Zelda games ever, Twilight Princess, holy grail or not. He also has a good sense of humor. Makes several hours feel like a sit down with an old friend.

No mention of distortion 2 is criminal
"however, just like in real life, you're not supposed to die during pinball" i laughed WAY too hard at this LMAO (18:20)
actually, i've decided that long backrat isn't RTA viable anymore, and my opinion is fact
