Couple of things that make the ending easier - you can blow up the 6th mainframe before getting Natalya by throwing a mine from the top of the right hand stairs at a certain angle (there’s a couple of videos out there showing you how) and it will land in the mainframe room.
You can also clear out the guards from the room with all the lockers and the body armour early as well - blow a mine on the door and it will take out the guard next to it. The rest will be triggered and run up to the door, once you see their faces glitching through a bit put another mine on the door and kill them so you’ve got a nice clear run to the exit

As a kid, I had to have a friend beat Control for me even on Agent.
Beating the game recently on Secret Agent was a big accomplishment for me.
I doubt I will ever beat it on 00 Agent, but I’ve beaten about five or six of the levels thus far on the difficulty.

The night I beat Aztec on 00 Agent.
Fall 1998. It was a Sunday night and I had just gotten my copy of Goldeneye back from my best friend across the street. He was super helpful and beat almost every difficult level and unlocked just about every cheat. But he didn't beat Aztec. So it was up to me. Of course, MANY failed attempts soon followed. When I finally beat it, I was in shock. Actually seeing the statistics screen after it was completed was mind-blowing. I couldn't wait to tell all my friends at school the next day. And what made it even more awesome was that it was during the "15 Days of 007" on TBS. That truly introduced me to the world of James Bond and got me into so many amazing movies.
Aztec. What a level. What a challenge. What a masterpiece.

Especially if you've made it all the way to end and find out an enemy can pick you off from the ground when you're up at the corner near the exhaust bay controls. Anybody who has played this level I'm sure knows this glitch. Or worse when you're scaling the ladder to end the mission and you've barely any health left hoping that the enemies haven't spawned yet. Great compilation Jeff.

Something to save health in cradle. Instead of challenging Alec when he is at the bottom of the side ramps, go to the railing above him on the right side and shoot him from above. He can’t hit you there. The railing for the stairs also gives you a good chance to clear out some guards since they can’t shoot you without coming around first.

There is a recent tip I had seen on Graslu00 channel. In Control, instead of protecting Natalya from the downstairs where she is on the computer, head to the second level. All of the guards spawn from that area/stairwell in the middle that connects the three levels. It creates a bottleneck and you can just mow them down from there and you have ample ammo since they are all in the same area. It's much easier than continually looking left and right for the guards coming down the winding stairs and also the ones that shoot from the glass areas.

Control is the hardest level. I just found out - In the last room with the mainfraim guarded by 4 drone guns. You only have to destroy the front two. If you just run fast to the mainframe and blow it up. Then run fast out the door, the side drone guns won't take any life off you.. means you can save time with getting the cheat in secret agent (10 minute target) and also save a bit of ammo.

Control Room took me months to beat in 1998, but I'd made the commitment to 00 Agent at that point and had to see it through. I was in college at the time and my roommates were wondering if I had social problems, but nope! Just a chip on my shoulder over Cuba in Goldeneye. Seeing those spiral stairs on both sides of the computers is giving me flashbacks, and I wouldn't say that competing it was very satisfying as unfair it is. Would play the first few missions the other half the time -- Byelemorye, Severnaya, Silo and if I still wanted more, Frigate -- because they're fun as hell. I loved Archives as soon as I formed my strategy.
I don't remember having a problem at the end of Train, though I vaguely remember it failing and not knowing what I was supposed to do, like it was bugged. I don't remember it stopping my progress, though. It took a few tries, at worst.

I haven't watched the video yet. When I first played through the game when it came out, in 1997 as a 13 year old, I remember trying to get Invisibility and Invincibility were the hardest. Then, some years later, I think during college, I replayed the single player from scratch. For some reason, upon my second playthrough I realized that unlocking the silver PP on Train was by far the most challenging.
Edit: I finished the video. If we are only ranking the hardest levels to beat and not specifically worrying about unlocking the cheats, then I fully agree with the list. Aztec is brutal on 00 difficulty. If I remember correctly, the lasers cheat you get from Aztec is on Secret Agent, not 00, making it much more manageable.

There is a nice trick which works with enemies, which is very effective for Jaws. they cannot hit you if you are at point blank range. e.g. with Jaws, kill the guy on the right (i think if you use the pp7 it stops jaws hearing it, maybe mistaken on that point), run up to Jaws, then shoot through him to get the other 2 guys at the far end of the room.
oh and for control & others, use the pp7 at long range drone guns. it is very accurate, saves ammo.

I can attest the Control mission being hard, but for different reasons. I think I had some issues with the speedrun? But it was nothing compared to having to do this mission on 00 Agent. I even had to come up with a strategy to deal with the protecting part. It essentially cheesed the run.
    1. Place bombs on all the main frames.
    2. Unlock the door for Nat then collect the vest in the hidden area.
    3. Position yourself on the center of the second floor facing the stairs. There are two types of guards that appear, hats and hatless guards. The guards with the hats come from the side and only go after you. The ones without hats come from the third floor, they target Nat. Periodically sweep from the center and left to right to pick off any guard that comes your way. It cheeses the defending part.
    4. After that’s done, detonate your mines and flee through the door you originally came from. Go towards the long door to the locker room to get the second vest. This forces the endless wave of reinforcements to take the long route and give you time.
    5. Go through the Hanger towards the room with the remaining mainframe. blow it up, preferably with a grenade, and retreat to the elevator.

For Depot, I made it a point to get the weapons first so I could use a rocket to deal with the gun turret.
Statue was ‘easy’ due to the enemies being less active for me, but confusing at times.
Archives I watched the cheat unlock route, and just kept practicing that to beat it.
Still working on getting to Cradle.
Jungle was annoying until I turned the brightness of my TV up. Figuring it out after that was a fair amount of practice.
Train was the hardest for me to get used to, taking something around 12 hours of attempts. What hurt a lot was that I didn’t know about shooting Xenia to get extra time for the password.
    Haven’t done Caverns yet.
Bunker 2 I just got fed up with, and would lure guards back to the prison cells and shoot them through the window.

Came back to give an update that I should have a while ago.
Caverns was a lot of trial and error until I figured out my exact route to save as much life as possible and know exactly when the hallway ambush happens, and where exactly to shoot to avoid blowing up the Computers objective. It was very much a learning process.
Cradle sucked. Having minimal ammunition meant a lot of kiting and looking up some cheese strats.
Aztec took many hours, and I was able to successfully beat it by sheer luck; Jaws killed himself with his own grenade after I emptied all of my assault rifle ammo on him. This was by the point of a run where I learned where every turret was, every guard ambush, and every sneak shot I could pull off. Because he killed himself in a shockingly stupid manner I was able to win thanks to not losing too much health to him.
      And Temple was Temple.
Also, was able to unlock the Invincibility cheat from Facility, and it was one of the most amazing feelings ever!

Dual Moonraker Drax Reinforcements are also Hell, and that they move on your location real fast. The extended room with the Drone Guns in Control can be manageable. Take care of the ones in the front and just run out the entryway passing the side guns, as they’ll barely hit you.

  • @Alkaris
    @Alkaris Год назад +1

The thing about Aztec is the fact that it's locked behind completing 00 Agent on every level, meaning you have to play through each level multiple times over on each difficulty, which can be bit of a struggle if you don't know how to get through them for the first time ever, as each difficulty step introduces additional mission objectives. So long as you have completed 00 Agent through each stage as the first time playing through it unlocks it for the next stage you progress up to, giving you the option to clear 00 Agent on every stage before going back and doing Agent and Secret Agent last.
Aztec is designed in such a way that once you kill Jaws, 3 Moonraker enemies will spawn and come after you. But after you have done so you still have plenty time to launch the rocket and wait out the timer. The Moonraker Laser guns deals 20 damage, more damage than standard typical weapons in the game, with benefit of bullet penetration, meaning you can shoot through metal boxes and such to kill enemies. Even one you do succeed in beating Aztec you still have Egyptian which is probably even harder, since it requires you obtain the Golden Gun and kill Baron Samedi with it, while having to deal with many enemies chasing after you. -- But before you can even get the Golden Gun, you first have to solve a tile puzzle in a small room by following a specific path to unlock the case, otherwise failing it and being shot to death by 4 turrets. But of course figuring out the tiles you need to walk on isn't so obvious, nor is there any hits in-game to show or tell you how to do it. And finally even if you managed to do every mission on 00 Agent, you get to unlock 007 difficulty which lets you customize Enemy Health, Damage, Response Time, etc... it's basically 00 Agent but with modifiers you can set before you start the level, which can be a lot of fun to mess around with, and create a whole new challenge to play through.

I appreciate you watching and the long comment! Yes it’s a big pain unlocking Aztec and then Egyptian, and Egyptian is weird as you try to figure out the golden gun password but it’s actually one of the easier levels in the game. Egyptian is like a 2 minute level, and it’s never on people’s hardest lists bc everybody knows it’s actually pretty easy once you know what’s going on.. they have THREE body armors in a level that takes just a couple minutes. Aztec on the other hand is actually hard from start to finish… I’d much rather put money on completing Egyptian than any of these levels listed, hands down easiest once you know the walk pattern. I re-learned the pattern, didn’t look it up, and basically you get a handful of attempts at the puzzle before you actually die. I think by my 4th attempt I revealed the golden gun, and it didn’t take a very long time, with the level being so short.

Also, I ran to get to the console to open up the shuttle bay and loved that because of the amazing peak 90s ai, there were moonraker guys were just constantly running onto the roll up door outside and one that was in the shuttle bay was running towards the door as if to want out.

Side note: while it is hard, I wouldn't say it's the hardest even before doing this method. Control wins that award.

That’s a big time strategy, sounds like it would help a lot! Control is a good #2 for me, the damn AR-33s and Lasers seem that much worse but Control is also awful too… it helps to know about the hat differences.

@@MarMaxGaming I think Control is probably the more annoying of the two. Once you realize at the start, you can sneakly kill the guy on the right and while crouching shoot the legs of the other two guards on the left, without taking any damage, and cheese Jaws on stairs... Aztec becomes less of a headache. Way more can go wrong in Control, and it is a very long mission lol.

@@mewimi for sure, it all can depend from player to player! For me.. It’ll just come down to what I’ve gone through while beating them myself.. but Control is for sure annoying and not fun to replay! Lol

I was ~12 when this game came out and was blown away when I saw how good it looked. I remember seeing it being played in a game store, can literally still visualise the exact moment in bunker 1 when you going into the main control room and could not believe. Just couldn't believe it. I played through it over and over and over again and two things still amaze me about it: 1) I can still get lost in Statue and 2) I only remember completing Control on 00Agent once in my whole life.

It’s amazing how these games developed so quickly and impressively before our very eyes, right?? I really appreciate you watching and sharing your memories with the game. And oh yes, Control is a tough mission.. 00 Agent really steps things up!

I went for a retrospective playthrough in the late 2000's and thought I'd try the 00 agent mode. The bane of my life was control and could never beat it as a kid, and thought 00 agent would be impossible. Low and behold I beat it more than 10 years on and couldn't believe it. Beat Aztec on 007 mode and almost 100% it bar a few cheats.
    Great game to this day.

The train was one of the hardest for me. Those first 2 train cars are brutal. After that its not bad but it took me a lot of tries to get through that. I thought the Caverns was easy. Before you go into that room with the radio and computer system you can shoot the glass windows out to left and it will bring a lot of them out to you and you can shoot them. Makes it a lot easier.

The only ones I remember being difficult, where the train and the satellite dish control room were. The floor took some finesse to cut through, and Natalia kept getting killed.

4:07 Dude, you forgot the fact that every time you replay the level you have to sit through both dialogue portions. They are literally required. Even though one of them just tells you where Janus is (which I have my add is useless information once you’ve heard it for the 10th time).

I was 14 when I played this game and I was able to unlock all the levels and secrets. Control was the only annoying level for me. All the other levels were ok once you learn how to kill the guards.

Statue was so hard for me to roam around complete the tasks without getting lost in the place and specially going around to rescue Natalya from the helicopter, I always have a hard time trying to beat Cradle, and I hate Train!

  • @bicko_07
    @bicko_07 11 месяцев назад

Archives is pretty easy on 00 agent if you literally don’t shoot anyone and just slap them because that doesn’t attract any attention. Then rescue Natalya and slap a few more guards meet Mishkin, get the black box and you will find windows on the lower floors so shoot at them and escape through their.
Also on Cradle 00 Agent it’s a good idea to shoot at Treveleyan from above instead of going down to where he shoots you. Instead of following him go to the other room opposite the one you’ve just left. You’ll find him there. Keep repeating this because it is a lot easier than chasing him round the whole cradle.

Aztec gave me endless frustration. I remember when I thought I beat the mission after a million tries, waiting for the rocket to launch as I climbed the ladder. I got killed by a laser from one of the henchmen while climbing the ladder. I was in disbelief. I beat the stage eventually but holy hell it took me forever. Even the beginning with the soldiers on both sides was so difficult to pass without getting shot. If I got shot just once at that part, I restarted the mission. This happened SO many times.
