I just unlocked Aztec!!! It was REALLY tough to beat even on Agent. As a kid, I had to have a friend beat Control for me even on Agent. Beating the game recently on Secret Agent was a big accomplishment for me. I doubt I will ever beat it on 00 Agent, but I’ve beaten about five or six of the levels thus far on the difficulty. Control, Cradle, Bunker 2, and some others…I just can’t see beating them on 00. Secret was tough enough.
The night I beat Aztec on 00 Agent. Fall 1998. It was a Sunday night and I had just gotten my copy of Goldeneye back from my best friend across the street. He was super helpful and beat almost every difficult level and unlocked just about every cheat. But he didn't beat Aztec. So it was up to me. Of course, MANY failed attempts soon followed. When I finally beat it, I was in shock. Actually seeing the statistics screen after it was completed was mind-blowing. I couldn't wait to tell all my friends at school the next day. And what made it even more awesome was that it was during the "15 Days of 007" on TBS. That truly introduced me to the world of James Bond and got me into so many amazing movies. Aztec. What a level. What a challenge. What a masterpiece.
@@stancurry6265 Caverns on 00 Agent is also a challenge. Again, those f***ing drone guns. And why do ALL the guards next to the scientists and radio have to have hand granades?!?!
The 2 hardest to me, Aztec and control. Control is in my opinion the hardest of them all. Protecting Nat sucks. But once your done there. You still got the rest of the level to survive. That shit is beyond hard. Good level. Love the challenge.
Couple of things that make the ending easier - you can blow up the 6th mainframe before getting Natalya by throwing a mine from the top of the right hand stairs at a certain angle (there’s a couple of videos out there showing you how) and it will land in the mainframe room. You can also clear out the guards from the room with all the lockers and the body armour early as well - blow a mine on the door and it will take out the guard next to it. The rest will be triggered and run up to the door, once you see their faces glitching through a bit put another mine on the door and kill them so you’ve got a nice clear run to the exit
Control was brutal. Aztec was hard in a totally different way. Jaws, a brick wall with 2 of those brutal assault rifles and those moonraker guards meant you got killed a lot but it always felt within reach if you just did things a bit differently the next time. It didn't make me despair like the control.... Saving Nataliya just felt impossible.
If you protect Natalya from the level above her in front of the stairs it's much easier they all come down the stairs to the middle level and it's much easier to take them all out that way before they get down to Natalyas level and get a shot at her. Saw the strategy on graslu00 channel and it makes the stage pretty easy.

First played this game at 11 when first came out .... never opened last 2 levels back then . Recently completed on switch ......truly brilliant game . Caverns, cradle and control were the toughest in game for me
I can remember I was stuck on Aztec 00 Agent for ages as a kid. The adrenaline rush I had once I was waiting for the rocket to launch and then completed this difficulty for the first time was insane!
Depot is a lot easier if you go get the weapon stash first. You never have to put yourself at risk of the drone gun when you have the rocket launcher. Also, if you know guards are right on the doors, then proximity mines will activate through the door and damage as well.
Such an incredible game, especially at the time it was released. Statue was my least favorite level. So confusing. I remember eventually learning a path that would take me through the level and all objectives quickly, but if I deviated from that path slightly I would get lost.
I was 4 when I played this game the first time, and I didn't know how to read, I didn't know how to finish the level because I didn't know about the other path to lead you to the statue to meet Janus.
Jeff the effort you put in (clearly) so that all the footage matches the in-depth commentary is just astonishing. The care you show these games is seriously amazing. Also 00 Agent Aztec can die in a fire.
I agree with Turn1p here, seriously well done and most enjoyable to watch, so props. Freaking Aztec though... I didn't even play it on Agent or Secret Agent before 00 Agent because I knew if I could beat it on 00 then those other two difficulties would be a cake walk. So far, the farthest I've come is getting to Jaws. Then he claps me 😭. I've got the rest of the game fully check marked, im so close to 100%. Just need Aztec and Egyptian... oh and the cheat code time trials. Can't forget those for a 100%.
I struggled beating Aztec on Secret Agent. 00 Agent was much harder... Until I learned there was body armor in the hallway with the first turrets. So much easier after that. Honestly breezed through 00 Agent after that. The first room you start in honestly the hardest part, get through that without taking damage and you're golden.
Again the beast puts out a solid vid. Yeah *Aztec* can be pretty frustrating. Especially if you've made it all the way to end and find out an enemy can pick you off from the ground when you're up at the corner near the exhaust bay controls. Anybody who has played this level I'm sure knows this glitch. Or worse when you're scaling the ladder to end the mission and you've barely any health left hoping that the enemies haven't spawned yet. Great compilation Jeff. An Easter egg that I always liked in this game is when you have to pick up the CCTV tape and you look in your inventory and see that it's a VHS copy of Goldeneye, I'm sure you've seen this one too. Looking forward to the target times vid. Have a great rest of your week man. 🤘🏻🤘🏻🎮🔥🔥
@@panampace the three hardest missions for me are Aztec is the undisputed hardest, Caverns is the hardest story mission. Then I feel third is a toss up depending on your play style but third can be Silo, Bunker 2, Train.
Something to save health in cradle. Instead of challenging Alec when he is at the bottom of the side ramps, go to the railing above him on the right side and shoot him from above. He can’t hit you there. The railing for the stairs also gives you a good chance to clear out some guards since they can’t shoot you without coming around first.
U can move faster than him, I myself speed past him when he goes in his final phase and wait for him to drop then drop him, either way the painful part for me is everything leading up to that end part
My father...threw me into facility on 00 agent before i knew how to shoot... When I killed my first man, he said: "Now, you know." I hated him then. But I understand WHY now - a spy, isnt born, Alexander, he is made. By bullets, and body armour locations. A spy, must, learn to hurt those he loves... (Takes swig from wine skin)
Statue is actually one of the easiest levels when you know where to go - and that applies to 00 difficulty too. Basically just keep to the left for a while, move as quickly as you can, and look out for a red shipping container (where you'll meet Zukovsky/Robbie Coltrane RIP). Then the red box blown out from the helicopter is fairly close by and on the left as well (if I recall correctly).
Statue used to be the biggest roadblock for my family. My brother and dad mentioned that level like it was hell. I was always scared of doing it as a kid. Now tho, it's definitely Control for me (at least from the normal levels). Its so nerve wracking!
@@roddydykes7053N64 controls are honestly solid if you’re used to the C buttons! It’s easy to strafe and move around well! But yeah it’s tough the with the fog and mostly confusing layout when you’re figuring it out for the first couple times
Just spanked aztec on 00 and nailed out all the timed cheat challenges on the new xbox re-release. I almost broke a controller getting it done. I havent raged that hard in a loooooong time.
@@phenom1tsmith Mike is talking about the difficulty of beating the target time to ascertain the unlockable cheat code relating to the level - not-beating the level; itself to a (vanilla) completion playthrough. Simply put: SPEED RUNNING the level to get the cheat.
@@phenom1tsmith Personally, I always thought Facility, Invincibility-cheat, was the most difficult, especially; due to the; Dr Doak (RNG) arbitrariness.
Control is the hardest level. I just found out - In the last room with the mainfraim guarded by 4 drone guns. You only have to destroy the front two. If you just run fast to the mainframe and blow it up. Then run fast out the door, the side drone guns won't take any life off you.. means you can save time with getting the cheat in secret agent (10 minute target) and also save a bit of ammo.
What you learn after getting all the cheats is that many levels are actually a lot easier if you speedrun them. Especially ones with respawning guards.
Back when I was a kid my father and I played this constantly, my dad was able to clear train without taking a hit, knowing how every enemy would move and react (took him about 30 mins for a clear) and I completed Aztec after 2 days of constant play and learning, the level we just never could pass was control, we played on an old bedroom crt screen and could never make out that the guards during natalias hacking sequence just flooded in from the stairs and you could just snipe them, still a great game that brings great memories.
Me and my friend have just started this game on agent after finishing it on 00 agent back in September 2000. We did one or max two levels a day working like nine-ten in the morning to three-four in the afternoon. Good times. The anxiety I get from watching this, haha. Will probably settle for secret agent this time around. 😁 but oh the memories.
Man I haven't completed this game in a minute but bringing back all of these 00 Agent goals reminded me how much I labored to beat the game on this difficulty.
Excellent list! I've got nothing to dispute with the placements. Despite how brutal the 00 Agent challenge can be, I love going through on it every time. Not many games feel quite as rewarding as Goldeneye is for me. I think Train might be my second favorite level in the game right behind Frigate. I really enjoy how Train is a straight-forward gauntlet that tests your mastery of the controls between aiming and using cover effectively. The ending with Natalya is definitely a bit of a toss-up though.
Good stuff. I like your video. I was just saying to a friend how complex the missions and objectives are in Goldeneye, so I am glad you discussed it in great detail. Feels like barely anyone who played goldeneye ever saw most of this stuff hahaha. You had to dig in hard to beat the whole game on 00 Agent. Most people just see grasulu play and make it look easy--assume the game is easy or not complex/hard AF.
4:07 Dude, you forgot the fact that every time you replay the level you have to sit through both dialogue portions. They are literally required. Even though one of them just tells you where Janus is (which I have my add is useless information once you’ve heard it for the 10th time).
An absolutely brilliant and quite frankly accurate as hell VIDEO honestly definite tossup between AZTEC AND BUNKER 2 and CONTROL for me. Not gonna lie i just used to playing these levels on no higher than secret agent. After the time i completed the entirety of the game including Egyptian on 00Agent before school only to come back and find my entire game had been wiped upon returning from school I never had the courage guts or WILL to do 00agent ALL OVER AGAIN. LMAOOO this game kills me and will kill me again no i have it on NINTENDO SWITCH. BTW shoutout to AZTEC for having the BEST SOUNDTRACK in the entire game for me, even though i love them all. Moonraker laserr and RCP90 best guns
Can’t argue with any of these placements, solid video as always my guy 😎 I will have to show this to my dad when I see him on Father’s Day and get his take on what levels are toughest, if he remembers lol. I mentioned last vid that he was a legend at goldeneye back in the day. My brother and I would go to bed and the next day our old man would have like 5 more missions completed on 00agent 😂
Bunker 2 was so much fun! Probably my favorite level. Gotta utilize those throwing knives and the level gets much easier. They were pretty much all I used until I got up to get the safe key and went back down to get the PP7. Takes practice throwing those knives though but when you get it, the level is fun as heck.
At the start I told myself for me it was control room. So many times Nataliya died. Then we hit number 1. I have to agree with you the difficulty and the timing mechanic just makes that level so hard. Great memories of a great game.
I could never even complete the game on secret agent as a kid. Finally kept my promise to myself to unlock and complete those last two levels, completing this game on 00 Agent was brutal but made me pretty good at the game and was a very proud feeling when completing each stage. I can’t go back to easier difficulties now
There is a recent tip I had seen on Graslu00 channel. In Control, instead of protecting Natalya from the downstairs where she is on the computer, head to the second level. All of the guards spawn from that area/stairwell in the middle that connects the three levels. It creates a bottleneck and you can just mow them down from there and you have ample ammo since they are all in the same area. It's much easier than continually looking left and right for the guards coming down the winding stairs and also the ones that shoot from the glass areas.
@@codezero7981 cheers dude, managed to do it anyway. The last cheat I need to complete the game fully is caverns 00 agent in 9:30, by far my least favourite to achieve
@@codezero7981 The guards without hats spawn above the floor where Boris starts out. And those guys are the ones who can break the glass. So long as you kill them off before they can get downstairs you'll be good. Its just a case of juggling between the hatless guys and the hatted guys who go after you instead of Natalya. The hatted guards can spawn up on the third floor or off in the corners of the second floor, so ya gotta be careful.
Agreed almost entirely with your list. My only change would be putting Silo in place of Statue, I never had much issue with that level. Top 5 is entirely correct. Control and Aztec are cruel lol. I always rank those 2 (alongside Carrington Institute and the secret levels from Perfect Dark) as the hardest N64 shooter levels. Great video!
I remember back when I was in Foster care, in the summer holidays I played goldeneye 50-60 hours a week, Foster father fumed, "get out stop playing that game". Unlocked everything. Then when I got my own place and own N64 with an expansion pack, bought Goldeneye and Perfect dark, managed to unlock all of perfect dark had to offer, but goldeneye did everything but facility cheat got the better of me. And now I've got it on the Nintendo Switch, I'm loving the nostalgia but I just not attempting the hardest cheats, it's not as if I ever needed them.
Just watched this, since I am playing the Game again on Xbox. Damn, I really kind of forgot how brutal 00 Agent is... Good list, definitly agree with you there.
I played this game as a kid with my brother everyday and I didn't think there was a difficulty setting. Now I'm playing through 00 Agent and it's one of the hardest games I ever played!
Never played the game when it was on N64, but I played it on Xbox. I thought since it's an older game, 00 Agent should be as easy as a modern FPS on normal. That was a massive oversight.
I played goldeneye from the re-release on xbox and man, bunker 2, statue, jungle, cradle and aztek levels was so stressful at times, especially when you play the levels for the first time and try to battle target times, but once you beaten it it is much more calmer
Did you find it easier? On N64 I never competed the game, always gait stuck in control 00 agent. But I’m Xbox I have completed the wholes thing with 1000 achievements
@Ben Ironside I never had a n64 when growing up so I can't make a comparison between that and the re release version but some of the missions, especially aztek was tough because of enemies with the moonraker lazer guns.
For cradle, when you start, just shoot as you run up the bridge towards the right railing at the top and you'll take out the guard before you even see him
Thinkin back as to why demon /dark souls had felt so familiar and addicting when i first played em, harkens back to old school difficult nes, snes games and trying to unlock the cheats fir Goldeneye..failing and repeating over and over and over at age 8 and 9..wiping rinsing repeating has jus been in my gaming dna since i can remember..and unlocking these cheats were some memorable tasks as a kid.
I always liked the aesthetic of Aztec but could never beat it when I was a kid. I always killed Jaws first and never understood what to do next. Couldn't figure out how to return to the beginning. 20+ years later, I managed to beat it on 00 Agent and while I'm happy I finally managed to do it, NEVER again! Can't believe they locked the Egytpian level behind this level. Only reason to ever consider beating Aztec on 00 Agent.
Try warping back up where you dropped off in the beginning to go to Jaws - This was an OG strat of mine and just switch weapons at an angle when you finish Jaws and double back to the beginning near the bridge (do the warp BEFORE the bridge) although it works everywhere - Back switching weapons is what I would do - Had the world record in 1998 on Aztec in 2:48 - Its on RUclips if you search Sterling Neblett Aztec OOA Goldeneye
these are some things that helped me when playing ... 1) use a gun with a silencer as much as possible 2) turn music off 3) turn brightness up 4) if you have mines, place them near doors if you know you are going to be overwhelmed at the e.g. cavern . But yes it took a very, very long time to compete the OOs, Control, Jungle and Caverns where the most challenging. Loved it though :)
The ending of Jungle was a shit fest for me always trying to make the dash to the end because the constant respawning of enemy’s crowding the area and me stuck behind a tree or something. Haha
I haven't watched the video yet. When I first played through the game when it came out, in 1997 as a 13 year old, I remember trying to get Invisibility and Invincibility were the hardest. Then, some years later, I think during college, I replayed the single player from scratch. For some reason, upon my second playthrough I realized that unlocking the silver PP on Train was by far the most challenging. Edit: I finished the video. If we are only ranking the hardest levels to beat and not specifically worrying about unlocking the cheats, then I fully agree with the list. Aztec is brutal on 00 difficulty. If I remember correctly, the lasers cheat you get from Aztec is on Secret Agent, not 00, making it much more manageable.
The soldier spawn craziness in bunker 2 I found out the hard way back in 2001. Wondered why they kept spawning. When I finally had cheats enabled I figured it out. Crazy spawning
Fun review of these level. Such a great game and 00 Agent is the best difficulty for this game. I did want to add there is one more body armor in the cradle. It is the second control console room against the wall.
There is a nice trick which works with enemies, which is very effective for Jaws. they cannot hit you if you are at point blank range. e.g. with Jaws, kill the guy on the right (i think if you use the pp7 it stops jaws hearing it, maybe mistaken on that point), run up to Jaws, then shoot through him to get the other 2 guys at the far end of the room. oh and for control & others, use the pp7 at long range drone guns. it is very accurate, saves ammo.
Relatable man, I was also very young when it came out.. like 6-7 lol didn’t play through agent until I was like 12 or something haha older brother and his friends is why the game was around
This video reignited my GoldenEye PTSD. Protecting Natalya on Control 00 Agent was legitimately one of the most stressful times in gaming. Glad to say I cleared all 00 Agent levels though.
Thanks for watching, bro! Surface II was especially annoying as a target time, having to beat it in under 4:15 on 00 Agent. We talk about that one in the Top 10 target times vid!
@@MarMaxGaming With the hardest times aspect, I hated Aztec, Control, Caverns, Statue and Facility. In my defense, I did not know about the Strafe Running trick and Kiting a certain tanky prick named Jaws, Instead going with getting right up in his face and aiming upwards and emptying at least 4 AR33 clips into him, after that, I had the issue of getting Laser sniped on my final push to the exhaust door control panel that got me until I decided to hold off on getting the armor until that point, at least I'd be able to tank a few of their shots until I got to the console where I could simply just camp the spot. I thought Egyptian would be a mega bitch but it was much easier, when I was a kid, I didn't know I had to solve a puzzle to get the golden gun, it makes me wish Rare had put some sort of hint in the level to make it slightly less punishing.
On Aztec after you clear out the room with turrets, go up the ladder and close the bay doors. Then chase after Jaws but don't kill him. Let him chase you back to that stairway area and wound him close to the point of death. Then run back near to where those glass doors are and kill him near there (while hiding behind a corner) so it gives the spawning guards no time to attack you while you're programming guidance data. That, and playing "defense" on Control while on the 2nd floor (near enough so Natalya thinks you're still providing protection) plus having already destroyed that mainframe (the one behind the locked door) from the stairs with the turn-and-throw method makes it much easier. Just shoot the guys coming down the stairs (the ones who go after Natalya and shoot out glass on sides when they get to 1st floor) from 3rd floor to 2nd and keep an eye on the sides for the 3 or 4 guards who are specifically drawn to your location (while still on 2nd floor) and it's very doable. Keeps everyone away from Natalya. Still hard rooms on both levels but those strats make it doable.
Control Room took me months to beat in 1998, but I'd made the commitment to 00 Agent at that point and had to see it through. I was in college at the time and my roommates were wondering if I had social problems, but nope! Just a chip on my shoulder over Cuba in Goldeneye. Seeing those spiral stairs on both sides of the computers is giving me flashbacks, and I wouldn't say that competing it was very satisfying as unfair it is. Would play the first few missions the other half the time -- Byelemorye, Severnaya, Silo and if I still wanted more, Frigate -- because they're fun as hell. I loved Archives as soon as I formed my strategy. I don't remember having a problem at the end of Train, though I vaguely remember it failing and not knowing what I was supposed to do, like it was bugged. I don't remember it stopping my progress, though. It took a few tries, at worst.
I finally beat Aztec on 00 agent without taking any damage just a few years ago. It took me over 20 years to do-that should tell you just how difficult that mission is. The only way is to do it without damage is to play it so many times that you memorize every inch of the map as well as all enemy locations and the changing spawn points.
for me, Egyptian is a hard level. not as hard as Control or Caverns but it's still difficult. not only do you have to get the Golden Gun, which is admittedly really easy if you know how to get to it in it's room without getting absolutely shredded by the trap, but also, you have to deal with it's stage boss: Baron Samedi. even when you use the Golden Gun on him, it takes a few hits to actually "kill" him. oh, and the final form in that pillar room shoots lasers from his pistols. have fun. oh, and the guards have zmg's...
I can attest the Control mission being hard, but for different reasons. I think I had some issues with the speedrun? But it was nothing compared to having to do this mission on 00 Agent. I even had to come up with a strategy to deal with the protecting part. It essentially cheesed the run. 1. Place bombs on all the main frames. 2. Unlock the door for Nat then collect the vest in the hidden area. 3. Position yourself on the center of the second floor facing the stairs. There are two types of guards that appear, hats and hatless guards. The guards with the hats come from the side and only go after you. The ones without hats come from the third floor, they target Nat. Periodically sweep from the center and left to right to pick off any guard that comes your way. It cheeses the defending part. 4. After that’s done, detonate your mines and flee through the door you originally came from. Go towards the long door to the locker room to get the second vest. This forces the endless wave of reinforcements to take the long route and give you time. 5. Go through the Hanger towards the room with the remaining mainframe. blow it up, preferably with a grenade, and retreat to the elevator.
I really appreciate that, John! 00 Agent is a fun challenge, it’s fun to talk about those challenges. There are 100 more vids on the channel, I hope you find another you enjoy too!
I was 14 when I played this game and I was able to unlock all the levels and secrets. Control was the only annoying level for me. All the other levels were ok once you learn how to kill the guards.
Statue was confusing for me. I wasted sooooo much time running in a circle without even realizing it. Its one of those levels where I wish I had a map. It also amazes me to know that 90s kids back in the day who played this game on N64 were able to figure out these missions without a walkthrough or RUclips and had an infinite amount of patience.
Years ago I was able to complete up to the train on 00 agent, before finally getting fizzled out on the game. By far, the most painful level ever was control room. Protecting Natalya while she breaks the goldeneye is so frustrating.
I’m not sure if Rare decided to tone down the difficulty or I was just good because of this game, but I remember getting through Perfect Dark on Perfect Agent setting with a lot more ease than Goldeneye’s 00 Agent difficulty
I’ve been playing since 1997 and I’ve never ended the Control level in the way that you did, and I don’t think I was aware that there is an extra body armour there. The way you did it looks much better than how I always do it, which is to go through the door by the final mainframe computer and leg it across the big room to the lift.
I haven't played this game pretty much since Perfect Dark came out as I switched to that afterwards, yet having completed 00 Agent back in the day, I clearly remembered Aztec being absolutely brutal, I will never forget how many times I played those first few rooms to not take any damage so I can have a buffer for later in the level.
Caverns Reinforcements with dual wielding RC-P90s can make Hell out of you, if the single P90 guys in the Radio Room weren’t enough. Dual Moonraker Drax Reinforcements are also Hell, and that they move on your location real fast. The extended room with the Drone Guns in Control can be manageable. Take care of the ones in the front and just run out the entryway passing the side guns, as they’ll barely hit you.
Glad someone agrees with me on statue and control. Statue was one of those levels that was confusing it made you feel like you were walking around in a maze or in circles. Now with control the hard part was protecting Natalya. She was a bitch to protect in not only in bunker 2, archives, and control
Bunker 2 frustrates me to this day. One little slip on taking out a camera and it’s endless guards. Also, Natalya is a pixel potato and runs straight into the gunfire in every single level she is in. I’ve never really had an issue with control. I always put one mine on the second level at the main staircase, one at the top of each stair case going into the control area, one on each side by the end glass and one on each mainframe where you run into Boris. Wait until the guards start down the steps into the control area and detonate. It takes out a large chunk of them and also blows the glass out. The guards who come to the side can be seen running through the broken glass in the center. Helps me with timing which guards to get first without being blindsided.
Could you please review this bit of the game information below 007 The 007 Mode parameter settings screen. 007, often referred to as "007 Mode" or (less commonly) "007 Agent", is a special difficulty unlocked after completing every mission on 00 Agent. It is something of a sandbox mode, allowing the player to manually set the health, damage, accuracy, and reaction times of enemies before starting a mission. It is designed to increase the replayability of the game; applying the extreme high and low settings will far outstrip the difficulty stats presented by 00 Agent and Agent respectively, and thus 007 Mode can be used either for an extreme challenge or simply for fun. 007 uses the same objectives and object placement as 00 Agent, although the framework does exist to allow it to have its own. The weapon pickups will also only replenish the same amount of ammunition as if you were playing the 00 Agent difficulty. Auto-aim works the same as on Agent difficulty.
Statue was so hard for me to roam around complete the tasks without getting lost in the place and specially going around to rescue Natalya from the helicopter, I always have a hard time trying to beat Cradle, and I hate Train!
Aztec definitely the hardest mission. I appreciated that ALL of the missions seemed impossible at first, but then with steady constant practice I managed to beat them.
I still think Caverns is the absolute worst on 00 Agent. At least with Control or Aztec you can tell right away if you should restart. With Caverns it just goes on far too long and then oops a guard blows up the radio and the scientists when you think you're almost done.
@@loading...7583 it’s okay, brother.. we can still play these games and have a good time. You’ll have your own place and family, then you can show your kids the classics!
(21:14) Not trying to flex but that mission is a blast! You mention the guards coming to kill you after hearing gun shots, yea. Don't forget the Karate chop. Work your way slowly through the stage to get the throwing knives. Now you have a bit of range too. The guards all have a patrol pattern if they move. Pick them off and clear out areas.
I went for a retrospective playthrough in the late 2000's and thought I'd try the 00 agent mode. The bane of my life was control and could never beat it as a kid, and thought 00 agent would be impossible. Low and behold I beat it more than 10 years on and couldn't believe it. Beat Aztec on 007 mode and almost 100% it bar a few cheats. Great game to this day.

Unlocking Aztec and the temple for the first time as a kid was my biggest childhood achievement 😆
I didn’t even know it existed until my friend has them back in the 2nd grade . Wild
Beating facility in under 2:05 was mine lol
Mastering the tile pattern puzzle on the Egyptian level. Tears 😂😂😢😮😮
Ted McForehead does some great 00 agent walkthroughs on every level in goldeneye... If I can get through it, so can you!

@@futekigo3574 great quote, you’re so right!
First time I beat it was in 1999. Second time was 3 days ago. Describing the experience to others is difficult. 😆
THAT'S a first... SKREEYEESH!

The night I beat Aztec and caverns 00 agent...July 2020. Only took me 22 years!
They both hard in a tied way
This. Control was harder than Aztec. I spent so much time as a kid on that level.
I agree, especially in those later levels you get the shit guns rather than the silence hand gun and the ak47
Control was definitely the hardest 00 stage for me. Gosh what a great game.
Such a tense stand off!! And those dang drone guns…
If you protect Natalya from the level above her in front of the stairs it's much easier they all come down the stairs to the middle level and it's much easier to take them all out that way before they get down to Natalyas level and get a shot at her. Saw the strategy on graslu00 channel and it makes the stage pretty easy.
00 agent is brutal haha so rewarding tho

Caverns, cradle and control were the toughest in game for me
I can remember I was stuck on Aztec 00 Agent for ages as a kid. The adrenaline rush I had once I was waiting for the rocket to launch and then completed this difficulty for the first time was insane!
Depot is a lot easier if you go get the weapon stash first. You never have to put yourself at risk of the drone gun when you have the rocket launcher. Also, if you know guards are right on the doors, then proximity mines will activate through the door and damage as well.
Weapon stash first, then put down a bunch of mines where the guards will gather outside so it’s easier when your coming out of the network room
@@panampacethis sounds like a fun and empowering strat
Going to the weapons stash first is the ONLY way to go. If you don't your gonna have a bad time
True but you can't do that when getting the cheat (on Secret Agent).
The end part of control where you gotta protect Natalya is my worst nightmare😂
You’re not alone! For sure sucks learning that part
Such an incredible game, especially at the time it was released. Statue was my least favorite level. So confusing. I remember eventually learning a path that would take me through the level and all objectives quickly, but if I deviated from that path slightly I would get lost.
The Statue time challenge finally helped teach me how to strafe. I was doing it perfectly and still wasn't hitting the required time.
I just stick to the left side. Gets you through it easily and gets you to Zukovsky along the way.
Yeah, same here got lost on that level but like one guy here I figured out to stick to the left I was so glad to get past that level lol.
@@patricksorenson9586 Levels i always hated was control room and jungle
I was 4 when I played this game the first time, and I didn't know how to read, I didn't know how to finish the level because I didn't know about the other path to lead you to the statue to meet Janus.
Jeff the effort you put in (clearly) so that all the footage matches the in-depth commentary is just astonishing. The care you show these games is seriously amazing. Also 00 Agent Aztec can die in a fire.
🤣 in a fire, yes I’d be pleased with that… weird thing is though, I started to like it 🤪
I agree with Turn1p here, seriously well done and most enjoyable to watch, so props.
You ain’t eva lied
I struggled beating Aztec on Secret Agent. 00 Agent was much harder... Until I learned there was body armor in the hallway with the first turrets. So much easier after that. Honestly breezed through 00 Agent after that. The first room you start in honestly the hardest part, get through that without taking damage and you're golden.
All that, but he couldn’t be bothered to learn how to pronounce Trevelyan
Silo is a rough mission as well.
Silo was my first road block. It’s kinda like Train but a lot less fun.
@@panampace the three hardest missions for me are Aztec is the undisputed hardest, Caverns is the hardest story mission. Then I feel third is a toss up depending on your play style but third can be Silo, Bunker 2, Train.
@@ShotzRox No Control in there???

Something to save health in cradle. Instead of challenging Alec when he is at the bottom of the side ramps, go to the railing above him on the right side and shoot him from above. He can’t hit you there. The railing for the stairs also gives you a good chance to clear out some guards since they can’t shoot you without coming around first.
U can move faster than him, I myself speed past him when he goes in his final phase and wait for him to drop then drop him, either way the painful part for me is everything leading up to that end part
When you use this technique it's a pretty easy mission
My father...threw me into facility on 00 agent before i knew how to shoot...
When I killed my first man, he said:
"Now, you know."
I hated him then. But I understand WHY now - a spy, isnt born, Alexander, he is made. By bullets, and body armour locations.
A spy, must, learn to hurt those he loves...

The flight recorder box has 5 or 6 potential spots where it could spawn.
It’s funny seeing actual strategy to this game… I always ran through with the donkey Kong and gold gun mode 😅. Awesome video!!! Love it
Statue used to be the biggest roadblock for my family. My brother and dad mentioned that level like it was hell. I was always scared of doing it as a kid. Now tho, it's definitely Control for me (at least from the normal levels). Its so nerve wracking!
It’s easy as on the Xbox once you know the layout, but with the shitty draw distance and N64 controls it was hell.
@@roddydykes7053N64 controls are honestly solid if you’re used to the C buttons! It’s easy to strafe and move around well! But yeah it’s tough the with the fog and mostly confusing layout when you’re figuring it out for the first couple times

Love it... looking forward to the top 10 target times too! And it'll be sick to get back into the 8bit rotation. I know these were big projects!
Hard and annoying as heck! And nice tip, going to use that with those target times
I did this also - and its fairly easy to take out those 2 drones when you open the door and back up out of their range. 👌
Control is so frustrating. I can't seem to hit those drone guns in the first room and I get obliterated.
What you learn after getting all the cheats is that many levels are actually a lot easier if you speedrun them. Especially ones with respawning guards.
Bunker 2 is one of those where you have to keep moving.
I don't know how you do it. You're an animal! Great video!
Back when I was a kid my father and I played this constantly, my dad was able to clear train without taking a hit, knowing how every enemy would move and react (took him about 30 mins for a clear) and I completed Aztec after 2 days of constant play and learning, the level we just never could pass was control, we played on an old bedroom crt screen and could never make out that the guards during natalias hacking sequence just flooded in from the stairs and you could just snipe them, still a great game that brings great memories.
lucky your dad loves games
Your dad about 40?
I also really like frigate for the same reasons. But I’d replace train with silo. Imo
@@Trevor6714 I agree, Silo isn’t easy. It was floating around Depot.. sometimes with these lists it feels like there are a few at #11 haha

I appreciate that, thank you! I’ve heard this a couple times on some other videos haha welcome to the channel!
That’s amazing… plowing multiple 00 Agent missions after the kiddos are put down. That’s a bad man right there!
I can’t go back to easier difficulties now
OMG Bunker 2, FUCK THAT LEVEL!
Does that prevent guards from breaking the glass on the bottom floor and going for Natalya? That's such a pain in the ass 😂
@@arunyen1 no, it doesn't prevent the glass breaking guards
I would agree, Statue is easier than Silo.
For Depot, the rocket launcher is used to dispatch the Drone gun so going to the ammo cache is crucial.
Really enjoyed this vid. Loads of effort put in to show your points your trying to make.
Rareware always knew how to bring the challenge in their games!
so glad to see bunker 2 in your top3. aztec an inspired pick for #1
I played goldeneye from the re-release on xbox and man, bunker 2, statue, jungle, cradle and aztek levels was so stressful at times, especially when you play the levels for the first time and try to battle target times, but once you beaten it it is much more calmer
@@AlexrsGAME ah no worries. yeah Aztec is defo the hardest no doubt.

Same! As long as Dr Doak is in the right place you’re fine
You put all of my thoughts into words. Funnily enough, everything you described is exactly why I love this game.
The soldier spawn craziness in bunker 2 I found out the hard way back in 2001. Wondered why they kept spawning. When I finally had cheats enabled I figured it out. Crazy spawning
There's one redeeming part about Aztec, really... The *music* it plays!
Let's go man! Crushing those Goldeneye missions
I was stuck on facility for the longest time as a kid as I had no clue what it meant to minimize scientist casualties..
Surface II was always in pain in my rear.
Thanks for watching, bro! Surface II was especially annoying as a target time, having to beat it in under 4:15 on 00 Agent. We talk about that one in the Top 10 target times vid!
I predicted the top 5, you did not disappoint.
I appreciate you watching bro! I know somebody could argue #6 higher and I’d understand, it was a little tricky to rank overall!
00 Agent is pretty much impossible for me and therefore my Kudos to the real ones who makes it through it, without using God Mode like I do, lol.
Just did my 2nd watch. You should do your personal top 10 goldeneye level music.
Control is so frustrating, it’s the only level I hate. Idk how Silo didn’t make the list, it’s very difficult on 00 agent
Silo was pretty tough, I died a couple times! I just had a harder time with these. Maybe I got a bit lucky on my run too!
Agreed. I think many levels on 00 could be tied for a place on this list!
for me, Egyptian is a hard level. not as hard as Control or Caverns but it's still difficult. not only do you have to get the Golden Gun, which is admittedly really easy if you know how to get to it in it's room without getting absolutely shredded by the trap, but also, you have to deal with it's stage boss: Baron Samedi. even when you use the Golden Gun on him, it takes a few hits to actually "kill" him. oh, and the final form in that pillar room shoots lasers from his pistols. have fun. oh, and the guards have zmg's...
Fun video. Thanks for making it!
The drone guns in the Aztec level on 00-Agent were the bane of my existence. Plus, it didn't help that you lost health so fast, too.
I never even unlocked Aztec as a kid, have managed to complete the game on 00 Agent apart from Aztec. Thanks for the Jaws tips.
Surprised that more people don’t know about the hidden rcp90 at the start of the train.
Huge difference maker… do it the real way though, like a man 🙃
I’ve been playing since 1997 and I’ve never ended the Control level in the way that you did, and I don’t think I was aware that there is an extra body armour there.
I've always hated Control, Cradle, and especially Aztec in 00 Agent...
But I did get 007 mode for a long time, though.
Dude this goes so hard! 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Wow this is quite a list. Quite different. Dishonorable mentions go to Silo, Streets, and Egyptian
Could you please review this bit of the game information below
007
The 007 Mode parameter settings screen.
007 is a mode where you can play with the stats and behavior of your guards… what are you wanting to see?
There’s body armor on Bunker 2. Head straight down the hall after being released and in the room with high ceilings among the crates to the right.
Jungle enemies: we shoot with accuracy.
Control enemies: we are never ending
Aztec enemies: LOL
what a fantastic video. i remember when i was young it took me for ever to finish the whole game but when i wasyoung i had al the time in the world.
@@loading...7583 good times back then, right?! Thank you!!
@@MarMaxGaming :..(
@@loading...7583 it’s okay, brother.. we can still play these games and have a good time.
