I remember back when I viewed Karl as more of a speedrunner than a RUclipsr, lol! Back then RWGoose was the "big" channel and Karl was a guy that collaborated with him, and I watched everything Karl put out. I would think, "i hope this guy catches on with the main stream" then, Billy Mitchell and Todd Todgers happened and the rest is history!
Just discovered your videos, and I really enjoy them! Unlike you, I'm no expert at Goldeneye - but the game does hold a special place in my heart. I used to play it all the time when I was a kid with my family and friends [multiplayer was a blast]. Then, about 4 or 5 years ago, I dusted it off and noticed we never managed to beat the game on 00 agent...... in fact, we had only made it to about the frigate or so. My brothers and sister had moved by then, so it left just me and my dad to try to beat it. Well, go figure, my dad was diagnosed with kidney cancer around that time - but having Goldeneye to play together until 2 am helped lift our spirits. My dad, being older, didn't have as much video game experience, so he wasn't the most... skilled player, but it was still a blast. His favorite level was the jungle, and so I let him take on that level, while I beat every other 00 agent level haha. It timed out pretty well, too. By the time he mastered [and beat] the jungle, I was spending my turns trying to kill Trevelyan. Watching these videos brings up those good memories. Anyways, one small note: at 2:55, you said, "1/15 x 30% x 20% = 1/225", which I don't think is correct. I think you used 1/3 for 30%, but 30% =/= 1/3. The calculation is: 1/15 * 30% * 20% = 1/15 * 3/10 * 2/10 = 3/150 * 1/5 = 1/250 = 0.004. Not a huge difference, as it's still a pretty unlikely scenario, but it's actually even MORE unlikely than the final number shows in your video!
Karl, do you know how rare it is that the people making these types of videos actually is good at the games they are talking about? :) I am not part of the community, but have been watching videos about Goldeneye and Perfect Dark speedrunning purely for entertainment for the last couple of years and I think you are the first one I come across that actually know how to play lol. Good video man. really good actually.
But honestly it's like being a teacher or a coach. You don't necessarily want the best pianist to teach you or the best mathematician. It's more important how they present it. An above average player who is a good teacher is more useful than one of the best players who is a bad teacher. So don't be too worried about the skills of your teachers. Worry more if you're actually learning sth from them.
I love the idea of possible times that have never been achieved. Would make for a great top 5. You do a great job of making the viewer understand why these things are so interesting. You absolute legend.
I came back to watch the crouch strat again, because Gus Riolo achieved an untied sweep on Aztec with using it on Agent and Secret Agent - Karl already made a vid from Guses 00 Agent untied.
I never played goldeneye nor perfect dark, nor did I own an N64. It so cool to see all the discoveries made to reduce the time it takes to complete the levels. Really love the content. Great job, Karl!
Excellent quality video. Really enjoyed the content, especially Natalya being blown out of the elevator door. Just wanted to mention that I like the GoldenEye content way more than the Perfect Dark content.
A *"Top 5 Hardest Goldeneye Speedrunning Strats"* would definitely be a very interesting video coming from someone like you who knows them more than 99% of people. Anyone keep up the great content man, you're doing awesome stuff! Edit: Absolutely love the transition clip lol
This channel is a gold mine - One of the few speedrunning channels that is enjoyable from someone that doesn't speedrun themselves. That means your appealable audience is huge and I hope to see this channel continue to grow with time - I suspect eventually RUclips will acknowledge your quality content and start to promote it and it all snowballs from there. As for the video, it's always amazing watching some of the crazy stunts speedrunners put together to shave a few seconds on these missions. Love it!
Thank you so much for posting these. I probably played Goldeneye more than any other game. It brings back some of my favorite memories as a kid. I had three brothers that I was good friends with and we would always play Goldeneye whenever we got together. Really it was all 3 of them against me and I'd allow them to set the handicap all the way up and mine all the way down and I'd still win like 90% of the time. My controllers took brutal damage sometimes as they'd get mad and throw them. Ahhh.. the good ol days when life was so much simpler.
I really like the way you break down the game-mechanics and strategies. I can feel your passion for speedrunning and the community behind it - that alone makes all the "boring numbers" rather interesting! I'm by no means a speedrunner myself but i have been gaming for more than 20 years and i can only say: "keep up the good work mate" :)
I used to hack Action Replay/Gameshark Codes for Goldeneye in the late 90's (under the name Goldeneye Guru :D )....I was obsessed back then and it's still my favorite game. I'm not a speed runner but I love the content that the speed-running community is creating - it's made my favorite game into a sport, and kept it alive for 20 years. Keep it up you absolute madmen!
I have a question: What do you think the meta-game of Goldeneye speedrunning will look like if players found out-of-bounds tricks/glitches? I'm talking about players being able to clip the level geometry to run through walls and doors to reach objectives faster.
Everyone subscribe to this channel. You know he deserves it. Plus, he’ll remind you with every video that you’re an absolute legend, and that feels nice.
I still remember how much time i put into Goldeneye back in 1999.... i like to see these speedrun videos but i CAN NOT imagine spending anywhere near as much time as these guys do, 20 years later. Still one of the best games i ever played.
I like Goose’s videos, but yours are so much more informative and don’t get off-topic. Thank you for these, from all of us who don’t speed run this game but pay attention to everyone who do 🙏🏻
Love your videos man. Always knew about you from perfect dark speedruns but never knew you had content that was detailed and knowledgeable. Love your enthusiasm and definitely dig your style!
Glad to see you making content videos! Always enjoy watching the progression of goldeneye speedrunning. Starting to like perfect dark ones just as much, great that there is another game to optimize for the next decade as well.
I took me about two weeks to understand and perform trick as easy as Duel Agent 0:03, so I think I won't be attempting these anytime soon... Great content Karl, I'm really looking forward to some more PD videos, maybe something about multiplayer tricks and discoveries? BigBossman had been attempting some Challenges speedruns and it was quite interesting in my opinion.
I love how you put so much effort into those videos and make them so highly detailed, making it sooo interesting to watch! I cannot wait for future videos you'll put out!
Wow, dude. Great video. And I usually hate "top x" style vids. Mind you, they don't usually spend ~3 mins per entry. :-) I really wish more speed-run communities were as active as you guys (the Elite) about explaining the meta and it's history.
I'm not a speedrunner, I don't watch a lot of speed runs... But I find the whole community, the tricks and people behind goldeneye speedrunning fascinating...
Whilst just playing on PAL I was actually using this #2 way just coz I didn't like the lvl, spd wan't a concern. idk if there are Quake 2 spd runs, but that was my game.... love to see a video if there is content there. Keep up the good work.
Nice video and great knowledge. Keep up the good work. I remember playing Perfect Dark 4 player split screen on the N64, the game was one of the few games that took advantage of the physical expansion pak you could install inside the console.
Some of those grenade throws are ridiculous. I can just imagine hanging out with non hardcore gamers who don't watch speedruns and know you're among the top 5. And one of them is like remember Goldeneye lets play some. You watch them navigate the game like a noob who knows the levels. Maybe pretend you've never played it. Now it's your turn and bam, you just do that. You have them so awe struck you finish the whole game then turn to one of them, put the controller in his hand and say "It's your turn next yeah" get up walk to the door, then turn and ask "Where's your toilet?"
Another terrific video Karl!!! RUclips continues to delay the notification of your upload by at least a day even though I am subscribed. Stupid algorithm.

Thanks for sharing man. And yeah I know I screwed up the math lol. I realised after I made the vid.
thanks for sharing your story!
"no gun james?" after being shot.

This isn't a comment about the video. The video's good. I'm just talking more generally about this very widespread misconception about teaching.
@14:04 damn look at all those nice shoes and custom calf's.
Hearing Karl call me an 'Absolute Legend' at the start of every video does wonders for my self esteem!
Sick number transition mate
Oh, hey! Hello!
🍆
Blazephlozard | Cool
Respect women!
Every time I saw this, I laughed.
gotta love a man who starts every video calling everyone absolute legends
Five seconds worth of a consistent gimmick towards invisible parasocial attractions isn't worth as much as you thought it was five years ago.
I can't believe you said "rock and/or roll". I knew you and I were related! You're awesome!!
The in game demonstrations are great.
I love the idea of possible times that have never been achieved. Would make for a great top 5. You do a great job of making the viewer understand why these things are so interesting. You absolute legend.
Karl: Don't go back and watch this.

"Also, you can get stuck inside the guard". That would be.. unpleasent :D
Always thought this would be a great idea for a video. You did an amazing job with it. Absolutely fascinating stuff.
I never played this game, but I always find speedrunning videos so interesting!

No, no, no.. YOU'RE the Absolute Legend. :)
i wish more people took the time to break down speedruns
Don't tell me what to do I'm watching this
Same
Yeah
The explosion over natalya in the elevator makes me laugh each time
Yep, never gets old.
Lol yep
Really like the style of this video quite a lot! Giving us an in depth review on all the more difficult speed running tricks out there.
Always good to see more videos from you Karl
Wow it crazy how different u sound in this compared to the content you make today
"I certainly look forward to give it a decent crack" A crack? it's a glass pun, isn't it?
Who got here because Karl specifically asked NOT TO WATCH this in his recent video? :D
I still remember how much time i put into Goldeneye back in 1999.... i like to see these speedrun videos but i CAN NOT imagine spending anywhere near as much time as these guys do, 20 years later.

that reaction for the first time discovering the door glitch for Depot was *chef's kiss*
beautiful
Glad to see you making content videos! Always enjoy watching the progression of goldeneye speedrunning. Starting to like perfect dark ones just as much, great that there is another game to optimize for the next decade as well.
Goose's Speedlore + Karl's technical companion series = match made in heaven
No. 1 hardest trick to pull of f Dream's "real" speedrun
That transition is genius, exploding Natalya is the best XD
I actually do hope speedrunning becomes more popular this year. I think its something that definitely is what makes gaming in general worth doing.
he wasn't lying 💀
Natalya flying out of the lift is just the best thing ever.
I guess the rest of the video was quite good, too.
I love how you put so much effort into those videos and make them so highly detailed, making it sooo interesting to watch! I cannot wait for future videos you'll put out!
I’ve never played Goldeneye, and I’ve watched all his videos.
Why can't I stop watching these videos?! I don't speed run, and I've only ever play GoldenEye a few times back in the 90s!
...and worst of all I'm supposed to be working!
dude your videos are so addicting!!! i absolutely love it!!!! :D
I used to think I was awesome just being fast enough to get the cheats on each level, but you guys turn it into an art, good job 👍🏻
Wow, dude. Great video. And I usually hate "top x" style vids. Mind you, they don't usually spend ~3 mins per entry. :-)
I really wish more speed-run communities were as active as you guys (the Elite) about explaining the meta and it's history.
You told me not to, so I did, I regret nothing
Can't wait to see some of these in an updated TAS someday.
I'm not a speedrunner, I don't watch a lot of speed runs... But I find the whole community, the tricks and people behind goldeneye speedrunning fascinating...
Found this channel by accident and don't play GE but this guy is really cool and content is superb.
Whilst just playing on PAL I was actually using this #2 way just coz I didn't like the lvl, spd wan't a concern.
idk if there are Quake 2 spd runs, but that was my game.... love to see a video if there is content there.
Keep up the good work.
#2 the siracha guy is an absolute legend!
@14:04 damn look at all those nice shoes and custom calf's.
Nice video and great knowledge. Keep up the good work. I remember playing Perfect Dark 4 player split screen on the N64, the game was one of the few games that took advantage of the physical expansion pak you could install inside the console.
Followed 'coz Goose.
Stoked to see an Aussie making waves in the speedrunning community - cheers for the excellent content mate.
Karl Jobst - The Man, The Myth.. The absolute GOAT
Look at that sub count. Growin like a champ 💪😎
ImVeryBrad Goose represent.
wow i love how goldeneye is programmed everything has a slight chance of actually happening

Instant sub! Also, imagine a speedrun without any TAS which could execute these tricks perfectly and also beat TAS world record speeds!
Awesome stuff Karl! Hard to believe that the Cradle trick was just discovered a few months ago...
Who's here after Karl explicitly told us not to revisit this video?
I've watched this video so many times and I still smile at The Simpsons reference.
I'm glad someone else noticed it haha.
Another terrific video Karl!!! RUclips continues to delay the notification of your upload by at least a day even though I am subscribed. Stupid algorithm.
Hit that notification bell ;)
"Hello you 𝔄𝔟𝔰𝔬𝔩𝔲𝔱𝔢 𝔏𝔢𝔤𝔢𝔫𝔡𝔰"
-Every Damn Karl Jobst video
I’m addicted to this channel
Lol I knew about the glass door strategy back in 1998, little did I know speed runners would of been desparate to know pre 2002.
It must feels pretty good doing a documentary video and showing a leaderboards that has your name in it.
Always thought of myself as a Legend, well you just verified this 🙌🏻
loving that clip of natalya blowing out of the elevator
Nice one! Hopefully you can get the glass-door trick to work anytime in the future. by the way, nice countdown animation with blowing up natalya :D
Wasnt the double ( double? ) R-lean performed to get 0:28 on runaway 00 agent technicaly harder to achieve than the aztec trick ?
well the R-lean is all about player execution where as Aztec is both player execution and Luck.
Are you just good at everything lol this video is fantastic man, please keep making videos
Great video Karl!
i love ur channel bro keep this shit up homie love
Natalia, with the double half gainer...........IT'S PERFECT!!!!
Word on the street is that you're a legend
Interesting that you didn't chose runway 28 for the R-Lean example
I think it's because this is about a "single" trick, that would be a trick performed several times, or a strat rather.
Love your videos man, keep up the good work!
I can't lie i love your intro lol it's wayyy better than "it's ya boy" like nigga i don't know you.
Loving these videos.
Let us rock and or roll is my favorite thing to say now.
I think doing a mix will be good, look forward to more in the future dude!
Damn good video! Keep pumpin em out!
the speedrunners who discover these techniques and actually pull them off, deserve to be granted the ability to fly in real life.
Nice Simpson quote at the beginning.
hell yeah, was hoping you'd start making content. keep it up
You seem like a nice person. And you have a good voice tone for these kind of videos. Peace
I kinda wonder if when Karl’s child was born, in the operating room did he greet them with “hello you absolute legend”?
Now people can actually understand what do you do during your speedruns. Great way to get more viewers!
Love the Natalya "countdown animation"
Damn, that was good. Holy shit that Natalya transition haha!
Great video, would love to see some more stuff like this
Just subbed today. Keep up the great content & thanks.
Great videos. Keep it up! Love everything you do
