I wished I listened to my my father. NEVER BUY A NEW VEHICLE MODEL THE FIRST YEAR IT COMES OUT. In my case I bought a Nissan rogue the first year and heating/defrost didn't work properly, rear hatch window leaked. I traded it in. My sister bought the same car a year later and loves it. I ordered a 2023 Maverick hybrid and hope that most of the bugs get worked out in the next 9-12 months I will be waiting on mine.

There's no excuse for how the dealership employee treated you. Having said that, I've worked for car dealerships before and they're between the proverbial rock and hard place in situations like this. They didn't design the car but they're stuck being face to face with irate customers over issues that they have no way to diagnose and the manufacturer is totally unresponsive helping the situation. After a service manager or service writer has been chewed out umpteen jillion times over something they have no control over, they tend to get defensive. That's not an excuse for treating the customer rudely but it is an explanation why they did. It's also why I got out of the business. I finally got fed up enough to start getting in the customers face. One of them in particular had been a thorn in our side several times and on one level, they deserved it but not in the particular instance that I really got out of line with him. For some unfathomable reason, he didn't file a complaint against me and I'm grateful but it's also when I started looking for something else to do because in that instance, he didn't deserve my bad attitude.

Great job Sam for getting the attention of Ford. I just went on a 2000mi road trip and I did experience the pop and slam on the brakes. I was aware of the potential and always nervous at slow speeds. Now hopefully ford fixes the problem so I can rest easily with slow stopping. One other thing I noticed was the temp control doesn't seem to mix until it's all the way up to 80 degrees. Cold cold cold then hot. Other than those two things I absolutely love this truck! Built in Sept xl hybrid 360.

Thank you for the video!! I have been waiting for six months now for an update on this issue from Ford. The dealer actually asked me what Ford was doing about it when I brought the issue up to them last week... I love my first edition hybrid but the low breaking issue is killer. Trying to pick my kids up in stop-and-go traffic at school, and having the breaks grab over and over, is a nightmare for them and me haha. Keep up the good work! Hopefully they actually fix it this year.

My hybrid XLT does this. This is pretty much the only thing I dislike about this truck. That said, I find that It's disconcerting but relatively easy to manage if you pay attention. Just give extra space (more than you'd need in any other vehicle) when in stop and go traffic, and just plan for the lurch when pulling into a parking spot (you'll stop short 8 times out of 10, in my experience, but panic stop the other 2x). It will be very nice if and when it gets fixed.

THIS IS NOT JUST A MAVERICK ISSUE! Prior to taking delivery of our Maverick hybrid, we had 2 Ford C-max hybrids. Our 2015 C-max never had this issue throughout the 94,000 miles we owned it, however our 2016 C-max did. I never knew if it was because the 2016 was an energi plug-in model, or just because it was a year newer (there were other differences in the 2 years). It's nice to know that there may be a fix for it in the next few weeks.

Great video, finally somebody has addressed this issue, just like you said I told my dealer about it a couple times and both times they can’t reproduce the problem and treat me like an idiot; typical service advisor, when you tell them something they act like it’s the first time they’ve ever heard it. And you are correct it is only a Ford problem, as I have had two previous Camry hybrid‘s, and currently also on a 22 Camry hybrid and this problem does not exist on the Toyota. Thanks for the update, keep making these great videos!

Another excellent video about the Maverick. I picked up my xlt hybrid Oct 8th and have almost 1000 km on it. Absolutely love everything about it except this specific problem. Exactly as Sam described. I would categorize it as annoying rather than a safety issue in my case, but it is the one negative in an otherwise fantastic vehicle. Oh, and I'm still just under a quarter tank left from the dealer fill up. The gas milage is insane!

  • @orrinkelso9295
    @orrinkelso9295 Год назад

I have also had this problem. This is our 4 hybrid. 2 Toyotas and 1 Honda. None of the previous hybrids had any unusual braking behavior. I have mainly noticed the problem when I am creeping forward as in stop and go traffic. After the initial stop, and traffic moves forward, the Maverick will seem to not brake normally then suddenly slam on the brakes. I have also noticed that when you want to do some slow speed maneuvers, such as a 3 point turn, when I release the brake, the truck doesn't move. Because the brakes are still applied. So I lightly apply the accelerater pedal, then the brakes release and the truck jumps forward! Instead of moving when the brake is released like every other vehicle I have owned.

So, in Ford's learned opinion, unpredictable brake action, "does not affect safety/performance." Plaintiffs' bar will have a field day with that one, I'm sure!
I had a 2018 F-150 that chewed through left rear taillight bulbs. The dealer said they couldn't find any electrical problem and put it off to, "cheap, Chinese bulbs." They couldn't explain why the cheap, Chinese bulbs only failed on the left rear.
BTW, changing out those bulbs is a ridiculous pain in the rear: the housings are held on with push pins and have to be pried off. I have a permanent scar on my left thumb where the housing snapped back as I was prying it off. Then you have to do a fitting job when replacing the housing because the springy mounting tabs bent.

My maverick, lariat AWD tow fx4, eco boost experienced brake problems yesterday. Only 300 miles on odometer. While braking for a stoplight the brakes seemed to shudder. Then at the light when restarting the vehicle stopped. Message on screen said put in park and restart. Engine starts but as soon as it is shifted into drive and gas pedal pushed it stalls. Repeated the process. Still stalled. Now I’m blocking traffic, waited 90 minutes for tow. Currently at dealer but tech won’t look at it until monday (19 dec22). THE VEHICLE IS DANGEROUS. @@aj_aka_alan I'm talking about braking, and as it reaches lower speeds below maybe 5 mph or so, it feels like it stops abruptly. Is this what you're talking about? Because if it is, I adapted to it within 5 minutes. I was just very sensitive with the braking, depressing the pedal by about half as much as I would with our explorer, and braking sooner. That did the trick. I've noticed this issue only happens when people are learning to drive this truck for the first time, and use the same amount of brake input they would on a none hybrid. Another way to describe how it feels, it's like going from a car with worn out brakes, to a car with new, and powerful brakes. Where you're really abrupt, and can't brake smoothly until you adjust mentally. Maybe the effect is more extreme than this, it's hard to know, but I'm pretty sure I've experienced it firsthand. When I first got in, I was like woah, that's touchy/sensitive But 10 minutes in, I was starting to prefer these brakes, but I'm a coaster. I coast up to a red light and apply my brakes probably 30 feet sooner than most drivers. So maybe that's why it doesn't bother me. I know many drivers who won't even hit the brakes until they're only 50 feet from a red light. Mix that driving style with sensitive brakes, and I can see why some people are having a hard time adjusting.

I've got the issue as well. Rolling up to a red light and had light pressure on the brakes. As I got closer to the vehicle in front of me, I realized I was not going to stop, and it caused me to hit the brakes a little harder, which slammed me to a hault. The feeling of the brakes is like it applies very light brake pressure but no more until you apply enough for it to switch to the other brake system. The regenerative braking is not enough to bring you to a stop, which is definitely sketchy. For now, when it does this, I inch up a few feet after the abrupt braking so as not to get rear-ended... Has anyone got an update on this? Has Ford fixed this problem for you guys when you bring it in now that it's 2023?

Yikes....never have had this issue with any of our Toyota Prius vehicles....and we have had quite a few of them.

Just a glitch In the brakes is nothing to be concerned about! 😟. You have air bags .

Any update on this ?? I took my maverick in today January 13th 2023 for a check engine light problem. When I asked about an update to the braking issue I got looked at like I was crazy and told there was no issue “that’s how hybrids drive.”

Hi Sam, Have you heard anything else on the fix for the brakes? People at Ford Customer Service and my dealer have not seen anything. Any info would be appreciated as always.

A TSB was just issued 12/15/22 "TSB 22-2493". Make an appointment with your dealership referencing that and they have the software update now. We have an appointment next week to get ours done and will do a video update around the first of the year to report whether or not it is a good fix.

Ford maverick has a considerable amount of problems over and above brakes, electrical, gas leaks, fires in the engine bay… a death trap

Hi Sam, my 2019 Ford Ranger, XLT model does the exact same thing with the brakes that you were describing for your Maverick. My Ranger is not a hybrid but I’m wondering if maybe there are some of the same components used in the braking system. I was wondering if you’ve heard anything about similar problems with Ranger owners?

Can we not do our own software updates with the installed modem?

First year product, you're gonna have lots of bugs. I don't think the Maverick does over the air updates unfortunately.

Curious why it's only "some" vehicles. My Mav was built in August 2022 and delivered In late September. I noticed the issue immediately and began looking into it and saw complaints going back over a year. If it's a software issue, wouldn't it be all mavericks produced?

Add it to the list of problems on this truck. And the price gouging.
